On Sunday January 26, 2020, I (Norman) was devastated by a text message, as I was awakening from an afternoon rest, from my friend Mark, in which he sent me a link where I read the news of Kobe Bryant's helicopter crash, of which I was completely shocked and in disbelief. We, here at Pneu Pneuma Godcast felt it was necessary for us to discuss this great loss to the world, in light of people's reactions and questioning where God is in all of this devastation. There were 9 victims of this crash. Those included Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna, a budding basketball player who was ready to follow in her father’s footsteps; baseball coach John Altobelli, his wife Keri and their basketball-playing daughter Alyssa; mother and daughter Sarah and Payton Chester; Mamba Academy basketball coach Christina Mauser and pilot Ara Zobayan. We use this podcast as a memorial to their lives. May you all #restinpeace. In his NBA career, Kobe Bryant won 5 championships, earned an NBA record 15 selections for All-NBA teams and 12 for All-Defensive teams. He has also led the league in scoring twice, won the Slam Dunk challenge and got 4 All-Star Game MVPs in 18 appearances. As a business owner he had many ventures he was involved with including his own sports drink company (Body Armor), his Nike endorsement and Mamba Academy, among several others that are part of his legacy. In the words of his widow, Vanessa Bryant, on Wednesday January 29, 2020, "My girls and I want to thank the millions of people who’ve shown support and love during this horrific time. Thank you for all the prayers. We definitely need them. We are completely devastated by the sudden loss of my adoring husband, Kobe — the amazing father of our children; and my beautiful, sweet Gianna — a loving, thoughtful, and wonderful daughter, and amazing sister to Natalia, Bianka, and Capri. We are also devastated for the families who lost their loved ones on Sunday, and we share in their grief intimately. There aren’t enough words to describe our pain right now...I’m not sure what our lives hold beyond today, and it’s impossible to imagine life without them...Our love for them is endless — and that’s to say, immeasurable. I just wish I could hug them, kiss them and bless them. Have them here with us, forever...To honor our Team Mamba family, the Mamba Sports Foundation has set up the MambaOnThree Fund to help support the other families affected by this tragedy. To donate, please go to MambaOnThree.org. To further Kobe and Gianna’s legacy in youth sports, please visit MambaSportsFoundation.org
On Sunday January 27, 2020 at 9:45am, professional basketball player Kobe Bryant, his 13 year old daughter and 7 other individuals died in a helicopter crash. Many of the people I know have a connection with Kobe as I do. We weren't close by any means, but I did experience him outside of the spotlight along with MY daughter...who is now 13 years old (and played against Kobe's daughter that was on the flight). What does all of this mean? Why do we have to die? What does the bible say? In this episode of Jesus + Coffee we talk about the crash, I share my Kobe story and scripture from Ecclesiastes to reflect on this tragic event. Drink up and be blessed! On Sunday January 24th I will have given a sacrament talk on the subject of the atonement. I have released an audio rehearsal of that talk the night before giving it. This is tied and hence repeats much of what is said in the premium episode “Nephi’s Faith Transition” but also covers other ground. On Sunday January 3rd, 2016, I lost a brother, and the world lost a leader. My brother Zin and a friend were killed in a tragic crash in Denver, as they sat at a red light and a man in an SUV who was fleeing some firemen who had approached his vehicle as he was asleep at a red light just a couple of blocks away. He hit the gas, reached a speed of about 70mph, and about two blocks down the road, he killed one of my greatest friends. On June 6, 2016 I went back to what I still consider my home base, KPFT in Houston, to gather a group of friends and family in tribute to our brother Zin. We went back to where it all started with he and I. We started the Damage Control program on KPFT on May 23rd, 2002. And it hurt like crazy to come back for this reason, but it raised me and I am sure a lot of people up super high as they heard stories of how Zin touched half of Houston with his great vibes and energies. Dude is still a ray of light shining down on us all. Please share far and wide. All music included on this show was either produced by Zin and performed by Zin, or performed live by the Free Radicals. Big thanks to Nick Cooper and the Free Radicals for making sure we kept it live. www.kpft.org www.allrealradio.com (Get the app!) www.pushermania.com Pushermania Podcast Network.
