My sock drawer had quietly become a mess over the last six to eight months. Socks separated from their pairs, things tossed about, worn-out ones taking up space long past their time. And every time I opened that drawer, something inside me cringed. Maybe you know that feeling. Maybe it's a drawer in your bathroom, your kitchen, your garage.Here's what I've come to understand: that cringe isn't you being dramatic. Research tells us that our brains are constantly scanning our environment and registering disorder — even when we're not consciously aware of it. That low-grade irritation you feel when the mail piles up, the laundry sits in the basket too long, or the friend you've been meaning to call keeps getting pushed to the back burner? Those are signals. And they're trying to get your attention.When the manageable things start slipping, it's almost always a sign that something bigger is going on underneath.So what do we do with that? We pause. We bring it to the surface. We notice it without shame — because grace is always the way.In this episode, I also share how the 90-Day Reset built into the Real Life Process was made for exactly these moments — and why we need resets in small ways (weekly), medium ways (quarterly), and big ways (annually) to keep our lives from owning us instead of the other way around.And there's an exciting announcement! We're diving into a heavy topic that's been making the rounds on medical TikTok, the soul-crushing feeling of "wasting your twenties" in medical training while your non-medical friends are out buying houses and going to clubs instead of living in squalor with five roommates. Kristin and I look back at our own unusual twenties, including the "Sock on the Pager" move which Kristin officially is claiming as a romantic peak of my residency years. Then we get into some "pajama patient" ophthalmology talk because Kristin refuses to take a "contact lens holiday". I explain the nightmare fuel of people who layer contacts until they have dozens stuck under their eyelid, and why a corneal abrasion can actually feel worse than childbirth. From the hidden chemistry required to be a dermatologist to the reason you can't get eyelid mites from your poodle, this episode is a mix of deep reflection and my ongoing quest to save Kristin's corneas. The three core problems: it doesn't evacuate moisture fast enough, it isn't durable enough for hard daily use, and it loses its shape within a couple of days of a backcountry hunt. He also calls out the lifetime warranty model used by most hunting sock companies, explaining why it's a business strategy built on the assumption that most customers are too lazy to actually claim it — and why he chose to put every dollar into the design instead.
