Donate (no account necessary) | Subscribe (account required) President Trump stands to gain significant new authority as the Supreme Court signals support for overturning a 1935 precedent that limits presidential control over independent agencies. The ruling could reshape how Washington works and dramatically increase executive power. The White House announces a $12 billion bailout for farmers harmed by the tariff war with China, sparking frustration from small businesses that say they have been hit even harder. Legal challenges to the tariffs raise new questions about whether the funding will ultimately remain available. Trump's new National Security Strategy marks a seismic shift in US foreign policy, prioritizing the Western Hemisphere, confronting China in the Indo-Pacific, and sharply distancing from Europe. Bryan walks listeners through the document using a historical lens, asking how President George Washington might view America's path forward.   "And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." - John 8:32     Keywords: Supreme Court presidential power, Humphrey's Executor, Trump executive authority, farmer bailout, tariff war, small business tariffs, National Security Strategy, Western Hemisphere focus, China Indo-Pacific strategy, Europe relations, George Washington Farewell Address

Welcome to another special edition of our Buzz's Book Club week where Buzz shares top recommendations of new books on music, just in time for your holiday shopping. Join Buzz Knight on “Takin’ A Walk” for an extraordinary conversation with legendary music producer and author Joe Boyd, whose new book “And the Roots and Rhythm Remain: A Journey Through Global Music” chronicles decades of discovering and championing world music. From producing Pink Floyd’s first singles and Nick Drake’s timeless albums to founding Hannibal Records and bringing global artists to international audiences, Boyd’s career reads like a roadmap of modern music history. In this episode, Boyd takes us on a sonic journey across continents, sharing stories from his groundbreaking work with artists like Toumani Diabaté, Ali Farka Touré, and the Incredible String Band. The conversation explores how traditional music from Mali, Brazil, Bulgaria, and beyond has influenced contemporary sounds, and why these ancient roots and rhythms continue to resonate in today’s music landscape. Boyd discusses the cultural and political forces shaping world music, the challenges of preserving traditional sounds in a globalized world, and his experiences documenting music from remote villages to major concert halls. From his early days at the UFO Club in 1960s London to recent field recordings in Africa and South America, Boyd offers insights into what makes music transcend borders and generations. Listeners will discover behind-the-scenes stories from Boyd’s legendary production work, his philosophy on authentic music preservation versus commercial adaptation, and why he believes the roots and rhythm of traditional music hold keys to understanding our shared humanity. Whether you’re a world music enthusiast, a student of music history, or simply curious about sounds beyond the mainstream, this episode offers a masterclass in listening deeply and thinking globally.Support the show: https://takinawalk.com/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Its tagline—"When their evil enemy resurfaces after 16 years, a group of ex-revolutionaries reunite to rescue the daughter of one of their own"—suggests why all three of us absolutely loved it. We discuss: the film's relationship to the contemporary United States, and what it might reveal about our political situation; how it portrays both the left and the right; the family drama at the heart of the film, and the connection between origin and identity, personally and politically; the way Ronald Reagan haunts a surprising number of its scenes; and more! Spoiler alert: we offer a quick plot summary for those who haven't (yet!) seen One Battle After Another, but that does mean certain surprises will be spoiled for you.Sources:Sam Adler-Bell, "The Fantasy of Assassination Culture," New York Magazine, Nov 1, 2025Armond White, "There Will Be Bloodlust in One Battle After Another," National Review, Sept 26, 2025Richard Brody, "The Real Battle of 'One Battle After Another,'" New Yorker, Oct 7, 2025...and don't forget to subscribe to Know Your Enemy on Patreon for access to all of our bonus episodes!

From his early days as a tech entrepreneur in California to becoming one of Bitcoin's most recognized educators and investors, Mark shares the personal journey that led him into macroeconomics—and ultimately into Bitcoin. We dig into his “cycles” framework, exploring how history moves in pendulum swings between centralization and decentralization roughly every 250 years, powered by recurring political, financial, and technological shifts. Mark explains why Bitcoin and AI sit at the center of today's “decentralized revolution,” and why AI isn't purely centralizing or decentralizing—but both at once. The discussion then turns to the real-world implications of Bitcoin as a tool for reducing the “return on violence” compared to fiat systems, and how that changes the incentives for governments and institutions. We move deeper into the 40-year bond market cycle, the growing crisis in fixed-income markets, and why aging demographics and financial repression are pushing trillions in capital to search for a new foundation. Finally, Mark shares insights from launching a Bitcoin treasury company in the UK—Satsuma—why demand for Bitcoin-backed yield instruments is exploding, and what the future may look like as traditional finance collides with a new Bitcoin-based base layer. If you're interested in macro, Bitcoin adoption, institutional shifts, and what comes next for global finance, this one is packed.Timestamps04:54 Mark Foss: Journey into Bitcoin and Macro Economics10:06 Cycles of Change: Understanding Economic and Technological Shifts15:11 The Dual Nature of AI: Centralization vs Decentralization19:48 The Return on Violence: Bitcoin vs Fiat24:59 The Bond Market Cycle: Implications for the Future30:00 Satsuma: Launching a Bitcoin Treasury in the UK#Bitcoin #MarkMoss #macroeconomics Subscribe to our channel and hit the bell "

Episode Summary:In this episode of Explaining History, Nick delves into Jonathan Frankel's seminal work, Crisis, Revolution, and Russian Jews. We explore how moments of acute crisis—from the Damascus Affair of 1840 to the pogroms of 1881—shaped the political and intellectual life of Jewish communities in the Russian Empire. How did a diaspora community, scattered across Europe and lacking a sovereign state, respond to existential threats? We examine the triadic conflict between traditionalism, liberal assimilation, and the rising tide of Jewish nationalism (Zionism) and socialism. Nick also reflects on the modern parallels of diaspora identity, the tension between integration and distinctiveness, and how persecution acts as a catalyst for political transformation.Key Topics:The Politics of Crisis: How external threats like the Damascus Affair mobilized Jewish solidarity across borders.Assimilation vs. Autonomy: The 19th-century debate between becoming "Russian" or "German" versus maintaining a distinct Jewish identity. The Turning Point of 1881: How the pogroms following the assassination of Alexander II shattered the dreams of integration and fueled the rise of Zionism and the Bund.Primo Levi & Identity: A reflection on how persecution forces identity upon individuals, regardless of their assimilation.Books Mentioned:Crisis, Revolution, and Russian Jews by Jonathan FrankelImagined Communities by Benedict AndersonIf This Is a Man by Primo LeviExplaining History helps you understand the 20th Century through critical conversations and expert interviews. Explaining History (explaininghistory) (explaininghistory)

In this episode of Explaining History, Nick delves into the institutional failures of the Imperial Russian Army in the critical decade before World War I. Drawing from the essay collection Reforming the Tsar's Army, we explore how the disastrous defeat in the Russo-Japanese War of 1905 shook the foundations of Tsarist power. We examine the struggle between military modernizers like General N.P. Mikhnevich, who sought to adapt to the new realities of machine guns and trenches, and traditionalists who clung to the Napoleonic dictum of "bayonets before bullets." Why did the Russian General Staff fail to develop a coherent doctrine for modern warfare? And how did this structural incompetence pave the way for the catastrophes of 1914?Key Topics:The Shock of 1905: How defeat by Japan exposed the rot in the Tsarist military. The General Staff Debate: The clash between modernizers and the old guard over the role of staff officers.Mikhnevich's Survey: A rare moment of candor where officers admitted their training was "thoroughly inadequate."Structural Incompetence: Why individual bravery couldn't overcome a failure to understand modern industrial warfare.Books Mentioned:Reforming the Tsar's Army: Military Innovation in Imperial Russia from Peter the Great to the Revolution edited by David Schimmelpenninck van der Oye and Bruce W. Luwayo had been on the Regenerative Skills podcast when it was still Abundant Edge for episode 71 in 2018.    As the Founder of the Permaculture Paradise Institute, Luwayo and his family have built an enterprise that helps local farmers throughout the whole country learn how to integrate regenerative practices. The Institute works on a trainer model that helps farmers get access to the tools, seedstock and livestock they need to create a steady stream of productive, diverse foodcrops. As a country with thousands of smallholders, the gap between conventional agricultural practices and resilient abundance requires peer learning, and access to new tools and techniques.   You can learn more and support the institute on their website: https://permacultureinstitutemw.com/ -- you can also learn how to sponsor farmers and farm training there!

In the spiritual community, we often hear that joy and happiness are our natural state of being... and that we should be joyful most, if not ALL, of the time. So... is this really true? Or are we putting too much pressure on ourselves to only feel "positive" emotions? Let's explore this question in a bonus episode of INNER REVOLUTION - a podcast series where we walk through the fire of inner transformation and awakening together. The purpose of this series is to help you shed ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING that isn't a true reflection of Who You Really Are, so you can fully embody your Divinity, Light, and Sacred Mission. Join me for this exploration of: how the spiritual community sometimes reinforces an unhelpful POLARITY by labeling (and judging) some emotions as "positive" and others as "negative" the pressure we might put on ourselves to experience ONLY "positive" emotions how toxic positivity & spiritual bypassing can lead to self-suppression should we strive to feel happy and joyful ALL of the time... or can we reach a middle ground of DIVINE NEUTRALITY? becoming a peaceful observer of ALL of your human experiences, emotions, and reactions - instead of feeling like you must suppress some of them ******* You're lovingly invited to join my email community and get access to my free Akashic Records Mini Course + weekly newsletter: https://josephinehardman.com/akashic-records-intro/ Watch my videos on YouTube: https://youtube.com/@healer.josephine Follow on Instagram: https://instagram.com/healer.josephine Connect through my website: https://josephinehardman.com Thank you for being here, doing your inner work, and leading the way for others with your light. Anne is bullish, arguing that AI shopping tools provide unprecedented price transparency and will change how consumers shop for everything from snacks to electronics. From there, The Irish Times Women's Podcast was born. Today, we're breaking every skincare rule you've ever been sold. Because what if the best thing you could put on your skin… is the one thing modern beauty brands told you to avoid? In this episode, I sit down with Charles Mayfield, founder of Farrow Skincare — a brand built on the ancient, back-to-the-land wisdom that your skin was never meant to thrive on chemicals, seed oils, or synthetic "miracle" serums. It was designed to thrive on something far simpler. Something our great-grandparents used instinctively. Something God Himself built into creation: Pure, clean, pasture-raised lard. Yes — pig fat. Before Sephora existed, before influencers pushed 12-step routines, before skincare got complicated… humans used nourishing animal fats to moisturize, protect, and heal their skin. And shocker: it worked. Charles and I dive into why Farrow's formulas — made from rendered, pasture-raised pig fat — are outperforming modern creams, why your skin instantly recognizes these ancestral nutrients, and how going back to the farm may be the most radical (and effective) act of self-care you can make. If you want skincare that actually honors the way God designed the body… If you're ready to strip things back to what's real, what's natural, and what works… This episode is going to flip the table on everything you thought you knew about skincare. Get ready. Your skincare routine is about to get simpler — and smarter. ✴️ Connect with Farrow on Instagram or X Use code: KNOWBETTER for 15% off on Farrow products.
