[3] And if I send them away hungry to their homes, they will faint on the way. And some of them have come from far away.” [4] And his disciples answered him, “How can one feed these people with bread here in this desolate place?” [5] And he asked them, “How many loaves do you have?” They said, “Seven.” [6] And he directed the crowd to sit down on the ground. And he took the seven loaves, and having given thanks, he broke them and gave them to his disciples to set before the people; and they set them before the crowd. [7] And they had a few small fish. And having blessed them, he said that these also should be set before them. [8] And they ate and were satisfied. And they took up the broken pieces left over, seven baskets full. [9] And there were about four thousand people. And he sent them away. [10] And immediately he got into the boat with his disciples and went to the district of Dalmanutha. Is it possible to live three days and three nights inside a fish? And if so, wasn't it possible for the God who raised Jesus from the dead to do the same thing for Jonah? These are the questions Dr. McGee explores as we study Jonah's prayer and submission to God's will as he was being swallowed.

For this special bonus episode, we’re joined by Pastor of Home of Jesus the King Church in Nazareth, Saleem Shalash. Since Biblical times, there’s been animosity between Arabs and Jews in the Middle East, and as an Israeli Arab Christian, Pastor Saleem often felt stuck in the middle. He was raised with hatred for Israel buried deep in his heart, but after God opened his eyes to the reconciliation and love that’s so desperately needed in the world right now, Saleem began providing much-needed humanitarian support to Jews, Muslims, and Christians through his affiliation with Joseph Project International. In his pursuit to be a peacemaker that helps bring healing to a hurting world, Pastor Saleem is serving families from all ethnic and religious backgrounds across the nation—praying for the next generation to be free of hatred, and instead fueled by love and compassion. Do you want to be part of the family or do you want to stay out?’ I was weeping that night. And I said, ‘God, I can't do it by myself. I need your help.’ I felt that God set me free from this hatred.” - Saleem Shalash “I believe that God keeps His promises. God changed all my life upside down. And I became one of the people that supports Arabs and Jews, who builds bridges between Arab and Jewish people; peacemakers in the land of Israel.” - Saleem Shalash “We need to create a new generation that's empty of hatred. We don't want to create a new generation that continues with the same conflict, with the same fight, with the same words.” - Saleem Shalash “Reconciliation is our message. Love is our message. Bible Reading: Romans 8:28-29; 2 Corinthians 5:17-21Trey was excited because today Grandma was finally going to teach him how to make her famous molasses bread. As Dad dropped him off and waved goodbye, Trey could already taste the rich, fluffy bread and the salty crunch of toasted oats on top.Grandma welcomed Trey with a hug and led him into the kitchen. They used sign language to communicate because Trey was deaf. Grandma signed "flour," "molasses," "yeast," and "spoon." Trey scurried around the kitchen to find the ingredients while Grandma started mixing. As they added more and more ingredients, a dark and gooey dough formed. Grandma placed a towel over the dough bowl before gently setting it in a sunny part of the kitchen."Why doesn't the dough look like bread yet?" Trey signed.Grandma smiled. "The dough must rise before it goes in the oven."That made sense to Trey. After an hour and a half, they checked the dough. It was double the size and very poofy. Grandma punched down the dough before laying it on the pan and putting it in the oven.Trey frowned. The dough still didn't look like bread. It didn't look tasty at all. Did Grandma forget something? He asked her this, and she replied, "Just you wait and see."When Grandma took the tray out of the oven, Trey was nervous. But the bread looked perfect, smelled perfect, and tasted even better than perfect. As they ate, Grandma said, "You know, making bread reminds me of what it's like to become God's new creation."Trey shrugged, confused. Grandma continued. "Before we put our trust in Jesus, we are like raw, scattered ingredients--we don't have a purpose. We are controlled by our wrong desires and deserve death because of our sin. But Jesus lived a perfect life, died on the cross, and rose from the dead so we could have new life and live with Him forever. Jesus gives us a purpose--to love Him and others and become more like Him. Just like the dough needs the oven to become bread, we need Jesus to be saved from sin and be made new."Trey nodded eagerly and took Grandma's hand to pray. Somehow this seemed even better than Grandma's famous molasses bread.–Hannah ChungHow About You?Have you ever baked something and wondered, "How do these random ingredients make something so delicious?" Without the oven, the dough would be raw and inedible. Similarly, we can only have true life by trusting in Jesus. When you trust Him to save you, God immediately makes you new! Trust in Jesus today and experience a new life of purpose. Full Text of ReadingsMemorial of Saint Charles Lwanga and Companions, Martyrs Lectionary: 298The Saint of the day is Saint Charles Lwanga and CompanionsSaint Charles Lwanga and Companions' Story One of 22 Ugandan martyrs, Charles Lwanga is the patron of youth and Catholic action in most of tropical Africa. He protected his fellow pages, aged 13 to 30, from the sexual demands of the Bagandan ruler, Mwanga, and encouraged and instructed them in the Catholic faith during their imprisonment for refusing the ruler's demands. Charles first learned of Christ's teachings from two retainers in the court of Chief Mawulugungu. While a catechumen, he entered the royal household as assistant to Joseph Mukaso, head of the court pages. On the night of Mukaso's martyrdom for encouraging the African youths to resist Mwanga, Charles requested and received baptism. Imprisoned with his friends, Charles' courage and belief in God inspired them to remain chaste and faithful. For his own unwillingness to submit to the immoral acts and his efforts to safeguard the faith of his friends, Charles was burned to death at Namugongo on June 3, 1886, by Mwanga's order. When Pope Paul VI canonized these 22 martyrs on October 18, 1964, he also made reference to the Anglican pages martyred for the same reason. Reflection Like Charles Lwanga, we are all teachers and witnesses to Christian living by the examples of our own lives. We are all called upon to spread the word of God, whether by word or deed. By remaining courageous and unshakable in our faith during times of great moral and physical temptation, we live as Christ lived. Saint of the Day, Copyright Franciscan Media

No wonder the Bible tells Christians, "Fix your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ" (1 Peter 1:13). But how can we fix our hope on something that has been muddled by influential, but careless, teaching? In this book that is both pastoral and academic, Don Green will lead you into the reassuring expectation that is the birthright of every true believer in Christ. 2489 - https://www.thetruthpulpit.comClick the icon below to listen.         Related PodcastsMeet Revelation #2071: The Purpose of Imprecatory Psalms (Through the Psalms)Meet Revelation #1

The Bible is filled with fascinating stories about heroes and villains. Some are parables, but most are real-life descriptions of men and women who struggled just as we do. Did you know these stories aren't intended just to teach us moral lessons or simply to entertain us? They're ultimately designed to point us to the person and work of God the Father and his son, Jesus Christ! During this message, Pastor J.D. invites us to look at one of the most familiar characters in the Old Testament. His life teaches us that God can accomplish amazing things through ordinary people—when they submit to his leadership.

Is the label "biblical" helping or hurting how we approach faith, church, and cultural challenges? In this thought-provoking episode of the Voxology Podcast, Mike and Tim explore the pitfalls of using "biblical" as a rigid brand, how it impacts theology, and its effects on navigating issues like justice, community, and interpretation of Scripture. They discuss the importance of reading the Bible in community, embracing humility, and fostering critical thinking to form faithful and wise communities. Drawing on listener feedback, they tackle how Scripture has been used both to liberate and to harm and ask what it means to embody a cruciform way of living. The conversation dives into the role of the church in society, the balance between individual and communal faith practices, and the dangers of reducing the Bible to oversimplified categories. With humor, deep insight, and a commitment to justice and Jesus' teachings, this episode invites you to rethink how we engage with Scripture and one another. #bible #selfimprovement #foundationforintentionalcommunity #biblestudy #importanceofchristiancommunity #bible #solascriptura #livingbythebook #eisegesisvs.exegesis #biblestudy Chapters 00:00 Introduction and Week Recap 02:51 Modeling for a Glamping Resort 06:05 Podcast Updates and Listener Feedback 09:07 Discussion on Bible Accessibility and Interpretation 11:57 The Role of Community in Bible Reading 18:09 Intent Behind Bible Study 21:05 Unity and Diversity in the Bible 26:00 The Purpose of the Bible in Community 30:09 Critique of Biblical Branding 34:02 Closing Thoughts on Wisdom and Learning 35:25 The Limitations of Biblical Prepackaging 38:51 The Harm of Misusing Biblical Concepts 44:52 Understanding the Bible as a Cross-Cultural Experience 51:59 The Three Elements of Biblical Interpretation 59:52 The Importance of Context in Biblical Texts 01:06:01 The Dark History of Biblical Misinterpretation 01:09:55 Navigating Modern Misinformation and Biblical Understanding As always, we encourage and would love discussion as we pursue. In Thessalonica, Paul reasons with the Jews in the synagogue, explaining that Jesus is the Messiah who fulfilled the scriptures. While some believe, others incite a riot, forcing Paul and Silas to flee to Berea. The Bereans are praised for their eagerness to examine the scriptures daily to verify Paul's teachings. Many believe, but opposition arises again, prompting Paul to leave. In Athens, Paul is stirred by the city's idolatry and engages with philosophers in the Areopagus. He proclaims the one true God, emphasizing His power to create all things and His call for everyone to repent of their sins. He informs them that God will judge the world, providing proof by raising Jesus from the dead. The centerpiece of the gospel is the resurrection of Jesus from the dead. Nearly every sermon in Acts highlights the evidence for and significance of this momentous event. In Thessalonica, Paul uses the resurrection to demonstrate that Jesus is the Christ. In Athens, the philosophers are challenged by Paul, who is “preaching Jesus and the resurrection.” Paul concludes his sermon to the Athenians by declaring Jesus as the final Judge, a truth established by God raising Him from the dead. God created us to seek Him, and He offered and raised His Son so that we can find Him. Some sneer at this, while others delay their response. However, true believers in the resurrection accept it and join the cause.  Dear Father, thank You for raising Your crucified Son from the dead. Thank You for the evidence of His resurrection and for the incredible, eternal assurances that accompany His victory over sin and death. Lord God, we believe. We believe You made all things and created us to seek and find You. We also believe that Your Son's death and resurrection are the only path to reach You, forgiven by His blood and granted the promise of eternal life in His name. We know Jesus will judge the world. Lead us to repent and prepare for our Savior's return.   Thought Questions: -       Why do you believe that Jesus Christ was raised from the dead? Are you prepared to elaborate in order to teach others about Jesus? -       The Berean listeners are commended for examining scripture to confirm Paul's words. Why should you do that when you hear teaching? -       Do you believe that God created you and that in Him you “live and move and exist”? How does this belief shape your daily life and choices?

“Not winning is in fact more powerful than winning,” professor Monica Wadhwa argues. Her research reveals that people tend to be most energized and motivated not when they win, but when they almost win. Falling just short of one’s ambitions tends to give people the motivation to keep growing and striving. Easy victories, on the other hand, tend to cripple energy and motivation. Wadhwa’s perspective gives fresh insight on Paul’s analogy comparing following Christ to running a race (1 Corinthians 10:24-27; Philippians 3:12-14). In both instances, Paul emphasizes that believers ought to give their pursuit of Christ and the gospel their all, “straining toward what is ahead” (Philippians 3:13) and running “in such a way as to get the prize” (1 Corinthians 9:24). The paradoxical truth is that what we’re striving for—faithfully sharing the gospel (v. 23) and knowing Christ (Philippians 3:8)—aren’t things we can ever say we’ve achieved. We’ll always fall short. We’ll never be able to say we’ve “already arrived” (v. 12). But that’s okay—because it’s the experience of drawing ever closer to Christ that matters. It’s only His strength that empowers and motivates us to pour our whole hearts into pursuing Him—the One who will one day carry us to victory.

In considering the decision-making framework of our own lives, Pastor Suzy urged us to evaluate what is driving our instinctive decisions: the pursuit of comfort and a good life, or being witnesses for Jesus.

Bible Reading: Romans 8:35-37; 2 Corinthians 12:9-10; 1 Peter 4:12–14Alisha ran inside the house. "There's a butterfly outside!" she exclaimed. "I got a picture on my phone. Do you want to see it?" she asked Devin, her older sister."Sure." Devin inspected the photo. "That butterfly is beautiful," she said as she cut into a mango. Alisha frowned as juice hit her phone. "That mango juice is getting everywhere."Devin shrugged as a piece of mango flew across the kitchen. "I'm trying to keep it from splashing all over the place, but mangos are messy."Alisha sat down at the counter and watched her sister. "Why eat mangos then? If they're messy, you could just not buy them." Devin popped a piece of mango into her mouth. "Because they taste really good, and I think it's worth it." She gave Alisha a smile. "It's kind of like your school problem." Alisha blinked. "Your mango is like people being mean to me at school because I believe in Jesus?" she asked doubtfully. "Kind of. Being a follower of Jesus can be messy. The Bible even tells us that--it says others might make fun of us or try to make life harder for us, like the kids at school who are mean to you. But you haven't stopped trusting in Jesus, have you?" Alisha looked shocked. "Why would I do that? He died for my sins so He could be with me all the time, and someday I'll be able to spend forever in heaven with Him."Devin smiled. "See? Knowing Jesus is worth it. Just like the mangos." She cut into a second mango. Alisha ducked so no juice would hit her. "I don't care how messy following Jesus is! Just like you don't care how messy your mango is." She thought about that for a moment. "I guess that makes sense. Kids at school make fun of me, but I know that Jesus loves me and died to save me, and that's worth whatever mean stuff people say." Alisha shrieked as a piece of mango hit her arm. "But those mangos are not worth it at all. I'm getting out of here!" –Kimberly BrokishHow About You?Has anyone ever been mean to you because you believe in Jesus?* Maybe they've called you names or said Jesus isn't real. Everyone talks about love, so what in the world could I say about love that hasn't already been said thousands of time and much more eloquently? I find talking about love is pretty easy, but putting it into practice can be quite challenging. Love is such an abused word that it almost becomes meaningless in today's culture. But when we understand the Bible's definition of love, it becomes quite a challenge. If you and I are going to be the kind of lovers the Bible says we should be, we'll need some help in knowing how to practice love. That's my goal. I've prepared a two-week plan to help you and me learn to practice love by the Bible's definition. The truth is, if you're not intentional about putting God's principles into practice, they just remain words on the pages of your Bible. They don't become transformational in your life. That's why I often use specific plans, in writing, to keep me on track and help me do what I really want to do. This two-week plan is based on 1 Corinthians 13, which gives us very explicit and practical instruction on just what it means to love. It has very little to do with our emotions, but it has everything to do with our attitudes and our actions. This plan will help you focus on one thing at a time—one characteristic of real love each day—and give you ideas on how to implement them in your life. The Apostle Paul prayed for the believers in Ephesus that they would be “rooted and established in love.” In John 13, Jesus says to his disciples, A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another (John 13:34-35). I think it's so interesting Jesus says this is a new command; loving one another wasn't required under the Law but under the New Covenant, under grace, we have a new commandment, and it is to love as we have been loved by Jesus. I invite you to join me in this two-week plan to practice love. It's important we take this love thing seriously, and if you will join me in learning to practice love, I think it will be transformational for you and me.

Cultivation of spiritual gifts for the life of the church and the community. This is the grand ending to John's dream. John here is imagining in binaries: the forces of good and the forces of evil. Everyone who hears his message is invited by Jesus to “come,” partake in the water of life. What was it for John who had been the subject of imperial subjugation to imagine himself a free agent, able to discern what was the will of God? What was it for John and his faith community to think of themselves as followers of Jesus, their fellow tormented, persecuted, subjugated one? What is it for us to think of ourselves as free agents, capable of discerning the will of God? John's call is a call into community (wash your robes, enter the city) in order to practice the ways of Jesus (how we welcome, resist, heal) and testify to his immanent return (rather than living as though the powers of the world are immanent, the reign of God is imminent). John, from the midst of the hardship and loneliness he is enduring, from the midst of wondering where God is, imagines God's life and healing power flowing from out of Gods' own self, always accessible; he likewise imagines all of God's people working in service of this God, always having all that they need. He imagines a tree that provides peace among nations. What was it for John to dream of coming to God for all that is needed, and for it to be easily accessible, at a time when God might have seemed silent? For it to be easy to access all that is from God, including life and world peace? What is it for us to conceive of a God of abundant life who actively provides for the healing of this world, accessible to us as we serve God? What is it for us to attend gatherings of the church with this vision? In this dream, John, who's clearly been through hardship, imagines a situation in which the Lamb, the not-powerful, peaceful, gentle one, shepherds those who have suffered. What was it for John (possibly a refugee?) to witness a divine community in which everyone had everything they needed? What was it for John to imagine the one who had suffered (the Lamb) as the caregiver for the ones who suffer? What does this do to hierarchy? What is it today for the tormented and suffering to wear their suffering as robes for all to see— and allow themselves to be comforted and cared for in community? Or for those who have suffered to provide that community for others? To tell us your thoughts on this sermon, click through to the web posting and leave us a comment. Podcast: Gospel TalksHosts: George Binoka & Jeff MusgraveEpisode Date: June 3, 2025Episode Summary:In this stirring episode of Gospel Talks, George Binoka and Jeff Musgrave explore the eternal significance of gospel-centered relationships. Drawing from Luke 16 and the parable of the unjust steward, they unpack Jesus' radical call to leverage our temporal resources—time, talent, and treasure—for eternal gain. The discussion centers around the idea of “forever friends,” a term George and Jeff use to describe those whom we reach with the gospel and with whom we'll share eternity. They argue that gospel relationships are not only spiritually binding but also the most enduring relationships possible—outlasting circumstances, cultures, and even death. The gospel, they contend, is the ultimate “relationship retainer,” binding people together with supernatural glue.Jeff issues a challenge from Scripture: if the world invests its resources with intensity to gain temporary returns, how much more should the sons of light pour themselves into eternal investments? They also highlight how hoarding the gospel is not merely ineffective—it's dishonest. Faithfulness to Christ involves faithfully stewarding the gospel for others.George offers personal stories of unlikely friendships forged through the gospel—relationships that defy natural compatibility but endure because they're built on eternal truth. Together, George and Jeff call listeners to take risks, invest deeply, and partner in the work of disciple-making, reminding us that the only thing we take to heaven is people.Chapter Breakdown:00:00 – The Concept of Forever FriendsIntroduction to the term “forever friends” and how the gospel preserves relationships eternally.02:54 – Eternal Friendships in ScriptureJeff unpacks the parable of the unjust steward (Luke 16) and Jesus' call to make friends for eternity.05:44 – Investing in Eternal RelationshipsComparison between worldly zeal for profit and Christian investment in souls.08:37 – Leveraging Temporal Wealth for Eternal GainWhat it means to steward time, talent, and treasure with eternity in view.11:16 – The Dishonesty of Hoarding the GospelJesus calls it dishonest to withhold the gospel from others; spiritual stewardship is a matter of truthfulness.14:30 – The Stickiness of Gospel RelationshipsOnce you've gone deep with someone spiritually, every other conversation becomes easier—gospel relationships stick.17:16 – Taking Risks for Eternal FriendshipsTrue friendship demands boldness; the gospel may threaten friendships, but it's also the only way to make them eternal.20:04 – The Transformative Power of ConversionConversion is miraculous, relational, and permanent—God turns strangers into family.22:43 – Partnership in the GospelSpiritual friendships mature into co-laboring partnerships for the kingdom.25:48 – The Value of Eternal RelationshipsNothing on earth is more valuable than souls; everything else we leave behind.27:01 – New ChapterClosing reflections and call to action: pray for laborers and consider supporting The Exchange monthly.Support the Mission:Partner with The Exchange to help multiply eternal relationships.
