In episode 308 of the Glass and Out Podcast we welcome Alan Letang, the Head Coach of the OHL's Sarnia Sting. Letang is still in the front 9 of his coaching career, and as you'll hear, when he decided that coaching was his chosen career post retirement, he immersed himself in all facets of the job. And it's paid off. After 2.5 seasons as an Assistant Coach in Owen Sound, he was promoted to the role of Head Coach. This would eventually lead him home to Sarnia, where he is getting set to lead the Sting for a 5th season, and one in which the expectations are high. Internationally, he has represented Canada multiple times, beginning as an Assistant Coach at the 2020 and 2023 World Junior Championships, as the Head Coach of Canada's entry at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup and finally as the Head Coach of Team Canada at the 2024 World Junior Championships. Listen as he shares his philosophy on setting players up for success after a mistake, finding the fine line between physicality and discipline, and how he's approaching the changing landscape of junior hockey.
We heard your complaints and the absences were noticeable at the games we watched. The OHL season launched with some big-time match-ups while big-name players were still away at pro camps. But could this year be the worst year we've seen it? The guys have a hopeful answer. Plus, Commissioner Crawford makes it clear that while we've all been distracted by the NCAA rule change, OHL expansion is still very much on the table. You'll also get a glimpse into every market in the league as The Wraparound returns for another season and Dan's got even MORE predictions -- because what's an early season pod without some fearless predictions? The voice of the OHL's Erie Otters, Trevor Kubeja joined us Thursday to share a preview of the hockey team's season.

If you like the small-town feel of junior hockey and the "charm" of some of those older, character-filled arenas, it's time to brace for a new reality. The OHL is asking current markets to step up, or other markets will be happy to take on a franchise. Also this week, the GOJHL becomes the OHL's first official development league and the ongoing recruitment war between the CHL and the NCAA gets a little petty. Plus, as the OHL regular season looms, the guys have a preview of the Western Conference, complete with predictions. You'll laugh! You'll cry! You'll be chirping these guys until Christmas... Kenny is joined in the booth by Ottawa 67's assistant coach Paul Stoykewych for a wide ranging conversation about what to expect this OHL season, and some of the changes that are happening with the NCAA's rule change
Hydro One has broken ground on the new St. Clair Transmission Line, which will run through Chatham-Kent. A botched car robbery in Wallaceburg has landed a Chatham man with a long list of charges, including assault. There will be an inquest into the death of Thomas Humphrey, who died in 2019 following an interaction with Chatham-Kent police, and the GOJHL is now the official development league of the OHL.
It's a new OHL season full of promise, unless you're dumb enough to try and predict the finishing order of all ten teams in the Eastern Conference. Why should you do that, though, when Dan and Farwell are plenty dumb enough to do it for you? The guys give it the ol' college try in predicting this year's Eastern Conference and, speaking of college, that NCAA rule change is still making waves. Plus, there's a potential that more players will move to the AHL early, and a guarantee that either Kitchener or Guelph will host the 2027 Memorial Cup (the guys think they know which market will win the bid). We've also got rule changes aplenty, and plenty of complaints about the OHL's new jersey sponsor (just not from Farwell). All in all, plenty to fill your ears after a summer away. Hope your break was great! Farwell and Dan are looking forward to bringing you another season of OHL analysis, bad takes, and information from around the league. In this episode of Leading Human, host Chad interviews Radhika Dutt, author of 'Radical Product Thinking' and the forthcoming book 'Escaping the Performance Trap.' Dutt challenges the conventional wisdom of goal-setting in performance management, arguing that tools like OKRs and KPIs often backfire. Instead, she introduces an alternative framework focused on detailed vision statements, puzzle setting, and puzzle solving, which encourages continuous learning and adaptation. The conversation explores the history of goal-setting, its limitations in complex environments, and practical steps for implementing Dutt's approach. Author of Radical Product Thinking, a speaker and entrepreneur, Radhika Dutt has participated in 5 acquisitions, 2 of which were companies she founded. Objectives and Key Results have long been a staple of the working world. You set a stretch objective, define the results that will tell you if the objective has been met, and scaffold throughout the organization. Then what? Often, nothing happens. The OKRs were too vague. In extreme cases, the worst happens: people bend the rules to hit aggressive targets. For author Radhika Dutt, there is another way: Objectives, Hypotheses, and Learnings (OHLs). In this week's episode of The Mindtools L&D Podcast, Radhika joins Gemma and Ross Garner to discuss: Why OKRs so often fail How OHLs prioritize a puzzle-solving mindset How to ensure OHLs don't lead to analysis paralysis Radhika offers an OHL toolkit at: radicalproduct.com/toolkit In 'What I Learned This Week', Ross G discussed 'parasocial relationships'. Gemma discussed an article from The Guardian on ways to have more 'fun' at work. For more from us, visit mindtools.com. Episode 314 of the InGoal Radio Podcast, presented by The Hockey Shop Source for Sports, features a fantastic interview with longtime NHL goalie and coach Rick Wamsley. In the feature interview presented by NHL Sense Arena, Wamsley touches on everything from 13 seasons playing in the NHL over three decades, to coaching goalies in the League for another 15 years, including going from "goalie on Tuesday to goalie coach on Wednesday" with Felix Potvin and the Toronto Maple Leafs in the early 1990s. There are great stories on every aspect of the game and position, from his start as a Montreal Canadiens draft pick and fellow goalies sewing Tupperware on their gear, to having Jacques Plante as a coach, learning from watching John Davidson in the AHL, and coaching Craig Anderson, as well as some really interesting lessons that applied to goaltending when he started, and still hold true today, 45 years later. We also talk about Wamsley's work as an OHL consultant and how it led to a new online venture, GoalieU designed to help goalies improve through video work. Check it out because we've got an exciting new partnership coming that will benefit InGoal Members too!In the Parent Segment, presented by Stop It Goaltending U the App, we respond to a few common questions for listeners including travelling with goalie gear, breaking in new gear and the smallest goalies being forced by team rule to carry their own bags.We also review this week's Pro Reads, presented by Vizual Edge, which features Charlie Lindgren of the Washington Capitals with great advice on managing depth and post integration when facing breakaways off the wing, and how both differ compared to a straight line 1-on-1.And in our weekly gear segment, we go to The Hockey Shop Source for Sports for a closer look at the all new Bauer Pro kneepads and why they have been generating so much buzz this summer.

Dan and Shawn are joined by Mike Morreale (15:53) to talk about the NHL Draft, he predicts, as many have, that 17-year-old defenseman Matthew Schaefer from Erie of the Ontario Hockey League will go to the New York Islanders with the No. 1 pick. But Morreale goes way beyond just the prediction, backing it up with facts and information about Schaefer, including how he got to be the consensus No. 1 despite playing only 17 games this season. Morreale also discusses many of the other top prospects, including Michael Misa of Saginaw in the Ontario Hockey League, James Hagens of Boston College, Porter Martone of Brampton in the OHL, and Anton Frondell and Victor Eklund of Djurgarden in Sweden. The guys start the episode breaking down the widely reported four-year extension of the Collective Bargaining Agreement and how the NHL and NHL Players' Association got to this point with such a strong working relationship. They close the episode discussing some of the moves we've already seen, including the Utah Mammoth acquiring forward JJ Peterka from the Buffalo Sabres for defenseman Michael Kesselring and forward Josh Doan, and forward Evander Kane being traded from the Edmonton Oilers to the Vancouver Canucks.
