Nick and Angela welcome an author and charity co-founder to Dish HQ. Dawn O'Porter was born in Scotland but grew up in Guernsey with her aunt and uncle. She spent three years at the Liverpool School for Performing Arts but decided that acting wasn't for her and got into TV instead. Dawn made her name making documentaries, which explored topics like dieting, dating, pregnancy and polyamory. She moved to LA and met her husband, actor Chris O'Dowd. In 2013, Dawn published her first novel Paper Aeroplanes and has released several books since, including the Sunday Times best-seller, The Cows in 2016. She is one of the founding members of the charity Choose Love which helps refugees all over the world. Angela prepares The Best Fish Pie by Martha Collison for seafood fan Dawn with garden peas while Nick pours a Waitrose Loved & Found Carignan blanc. Talk at the table turns to Dawn's love of hosting and her desire to be left alone in the kitchen, kids names and why a tortoise is the pet you never knew you wanted. Just so you know, our podcast might contain the occasional mild swear word or adult theme. All recipes from this podcast can be found at waitrose.com/dishrecipes A transcript for this episode can be found at waitrose.com/dish We can't all have a Michelin star chef in the kitchen, but you can ask Angela for help. Send your dilemmas to dish@waitrose.co.uk and she'll try to answer in a future episode. Dish is a S:E Creative Studio production for Waitrose & Partners Learn more about your ad choices. This is a replay of a previous episode with Dawn O’Porter. Dawn has actually come on this podcast 3 times, but this is a replay of the latest conversation we had in 2019, about her brilliant novel So Lucky. She is the author of 6 books including the award-winning YA books Paper Aeroplanes and Goose, her first adult novel The Cows was a Sunday Times Bestseller and her latest book "SO LUCKY" is also a Sunday Times bestseller. The novel is about three women and how life really isn't as perfect as it looks. Ruby is feeling like she's failing as a mother, Beth is in a sexless marriage and online influencer Lauren is not telling the truth on Instagram. We talk about writing fiction, finding inspiration and the power of saying no. Also wanted to take this opportunity to mention that since this interview Dawn has launched a Patreon page where she says writing, videos, competitions, it’s really fun and a great place to hang out if you’re a fan of Dawn’s work. Hope you enjoy this episode re-run! See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Dawn O'Porter is a novelist, columnist and broadcaster who lives in Los Angeles with her husband Chris, two songs, cat Lilu and dog Potato. She has made numerous documentaries about all sorts of things: polygamy, childbirth, Geisha, body image, breast cancer and even the movie Dirty Dancing. She is the critically acclaimed author of Paper Aeroplanes and Goose and The Sunday Times Bestseller The Cows.Dawn helped launch ‘Help Refugees’ in 2015, a charity that sends urgent care to refugees across Europe. She is also the host of ‘Get It On’, a weekly podcast where she interviews interesting people about why they wear what they wear. The Cows is a powerful novel about three women – judging each other, but also themselves. In all the noise of modern life, they need to find their own voice. Tara, Cam and Stella are strangers living their own lives as best they can – though when society’s screaming you should live life one way, it can be hard to like what you see in the mirror. When an extraordinary event ties invisible bonds of friendship between them, one woman’s catastrophe becomes another’s inspiration, and a life lesson to all. The book is all about how it’s sometimes OK to not follow the herd.In this episode we talk about writing novels, motherhood, growing up, the power of quitting and the importance of knowing yourself the best out of everyone. This week Mark and Andy get philosophical with the question: What are you looking forward to? Andy read an article that suggested that the key to happiness is having something to look forward to. But what if we’re looking forward to the wrong thing, and what happens when you arrive?

Dawn O’Porter has been my career crush for YEARS. I loved her first non-fiction book Diaries Of An Internet Lover back in 2006, and in 2007 I fell in love with her TV series (Super Slim Me and then Dawn Gets Naked, Dawn Gets A Baby and lots of others). Since then Dawn’s career has really evolved in many ways, with her best-selling novels: Paper Aeroplanes and Goose and now an adult novel series published by Harper Collins. Last year she also launched BOB a vintage clothing line, and has been a helping hand in launching @HelpRefugeesUK which is now the main registered group helping the refugee crisis. By Your Side... Рустам, вокалистка Jama, Like A River... Koda. Queen. 1.Ruben de Ronde feat Aelyn - By Your Side (Chill Mix) 2.Stephano Prunebelli- Looking for Silence (Tokkoi Remix) 3.Sneijder feat Karen Kelly - Be With You (Acoustic Mix) 4.Alice Frank (Alice Ignateva) - Dunyasha 5.Moonbeam feat Loolacoma - Reptile's Head 6.Bryan Milton feat.
