This week on Eavesdroppin', Geordie & Michelle look at vampires - and clowns - and murder…When Rockhampton teenager Tracey Wigginton became interested in the occult and witchcraft, no one could have predicted what would come next. Obsessed with idea of 'feeding on blood', over the next years Tracey began to explore drinking the blood of animals before eventually wanting to drink the blood of humans. What followed was a horror show. Dubbed the Australian Lesbian Vampire Killer, Tracey and her circle of friends abducted and murdered 47 year old Edward Baldock while Tracey drank his blood. Listen now to discover what happened to Tracey and her friends and why Tracey gives goths a bad name...Geordie follows with a perplexing look at the Gorbals vampire hunt of 1954. When a group of kids in Glasgow reported seeing a 7ft vampire with iron teeth who supposedly had killed two local children, the kids decided to hunt down this vampire in the local cemetery. The result? A moral panic that led to the censorship and banning of comic books and a terrifying siege on a traveller family. Geordie also discusses the disturbing 1973 incident of The Sandown Clown on the Isle of Wight. Called All Colours Sam, was this strange being a weird clown, an alien or was it all just strange folklore? Listen now to find out! So pop on your headphones, grab a brown lemonade and join Geordie & Michelle for this week's episode, plus chat about Elon Musk, celebrity Gogglebox, chit-chat about forensic cleaning and more, only on Eavesdroppin' podcast. This week, we're asking if all this self-monitoring, self-optimising and endless tracking is actually helping us — or just making us more stressed and less happy. With over half of UK adults now owning some kind of wearable, we dig into whether chasing perfect sleep scores and stress metrics is doing more harm than good. Because decades of research still shows that happiness often comes when we look outward — being kind, connected and empathetic — not by obsessing over every tiny detail of ourselves. We also break down some of the biggest health stories right now. We look at new research on magic mushrooms being used to treat depression, why the results are genuinely promising, and why it's still not a miracle fix. Then we tackle the confusion around butter, steak, cheese and heart health. Is saturated fat really as bad as we've been told, or are the headlines just muddying the waters? We unpack what actually matters — from fat swaps to overall diet patterns. Then we take on the language of “guilt-free pleasures.” Whether it's dark chocolate, low-alcohol wine or high-fibre cereals, do we really need guilt in the food conversation at all? We think it's time to change how we talk about food. We also touch on the new nursery nutrition guidelines rolling out this September to help kids build better habits early on. Recommendations: Baked strawberries! Coat in either honey, maple syrup and sugar, pop in the oven for 15-20 mins at 180 and enjoy how much flavour you get Walking! Quick and easy way to feel great and bust stress Leaving your phone downstairs at night and feel better for not having the temptation to do late-night doom scrolling Please vote for us to win the Listener's Choice award at the British Podcast Awards: https://www.britishpodcastawards.com/voting Learn more about your ad choices. In 2017, an AI companion app called Replika was created and it was way more successful than anyone could have imagined. It started off as a way for its creator to deal with grief and ended up being a bit too sexy for the authorities to handle. People were falling in love. People were getting spicy selfies. And then an update wiped it all away, with people's 'Reps' effectively lobotomised overnight - with devastating results. Listen now to Michelle discussing the rise and fall of Replika.Geordie follows with a look at a 1970s experiment that posed the question: can you create a ghost through sheer belief? When Dr A.R. George Owen decided to gather his students together to see if a group of people could invent a ghost, he wasn't prepared for the results. They created a backstory for the made-up apparition, called him Philip Aylesford - they even went to England to the town they decided he had lived in and then... a few ouija boards and seances later, the ghost of Philip Aylesford appeared. The medieval chronicles are peppered with odd tales amongst the mundane, when folklorist and historian Dr Francis Young came across one of these peculiar stories he shared it with Nat, because it happened at Biggleswade. In this episode Francis and Nat ask, and hopefully answer the questions: what was this strange sight? What did it mean to the witnesses? How have our interpretations of the uncanny and otherworldly changed over the centuries? They also explore how landscape shapes and holds secrets about our past beliefs and activities.   Who were these "monstrous fighting men," and do they have a link to Viking and Saxon history? Send us a text- On-Demand Programme Link - https://mailchi.mp/bb2a7b851246/kairos-centreWe fall in love with 'Differenceness' and 'Sameness'. Over the years, we can become dissatisfied with the unconscious differences of a partner, that is now in the conscious. So we set about trying to change them to be more like us, since those visible and conscious differences are no longer seemingly acceptable or wanted. We consciously now only want the sameness bits. So the fight over the toilet seat (up or down), and the top off the toothpaste, is in full flow. Yet, it has nothing to do with the toilet seat or the toothpaste (which 'breaks the camel's back') - causing us to retreat from the relationship. Here is a little of what Authors Jacobs, Dicks & Scarff have to say: "Unconscious attraction: Choice or chemistry: we are not aware of it. At an unconscious level we often pick and are picked out by a partner who has had similar earlier life experiences. They may have dealt with these experiences in an opposite way. Unconscious choice of a partner is based on similarity. It may feel that you "complete each other" or have found your "other half........When couples unconsciously choose each other it may be as a second chance to play out old conflicts (from childhood) which were not successfully managed the first time around".We choose partners & are chosen by partners at both conscious & conscious levels.Counselling may explore the idea of "chemistry" between two people: how two people "fit" together to form a "whole".Hendrix & LaKelly add their worth by suggesting:"The Search For "One and Only": So how does this information add to our understanding of romantic attraction? We seem to be highly selective in our choice of mates. In fact, we appear to be searching for a "one and only" with a very specific set of positive and negative traits....... we are each looking for someone who has the predominant character traits of the people who raised us....it is a compelling need to heal old childhood wounds". Aren't we strange and fickle people - us human beings? Might AI do it better for us - partner choice I mean?British Podcast Awards 2025: Would you consider voting for this Podcast?https://www.britishpodcastawards.com/votingGary McFarlane (BA, LLM, Dip, Certs), Accredited EMDR Practitioner.Episode Keywords: Sex Addiction | Porn Addiction | Love Addiction | Porn Causes | Recover from Addiction | Self-Soothing Behaviors | Childhood Trauma | Inner Child work | Childhood Development and Addiction bullying | Porn Addiction Recovery | Abuse | Sexual Abuse | Sex Addiction Recovery | Domestic Violence | Family Conflict | Overcoming Porn addiction | Porn Addiction Side effects | Porn Addiction Symptoms | Emotional Neglect | Quit Porn Addiction | Peer Pressure | Performance Pressure | Separation | Divorce | Fear | Anxiety | Stress | Mental Health and Addiction | Dissociation | Anger | Husband has porn | Recovery Program | 12 Steps Program | EMDR | Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing | Compulsive Behavior | Trauma Healing | Neuroplasticity | Online Therapy | The Kairos Centre | Neuroscience of Addiction | Porn Addiction Help | Sex Addiction Recovery Program | Authentic Self Discovery | Compulsive Behaviors | Intimacy Issues | Sexual Dysfunction | Obsessive Thoughts | Fantasy Escape | Codependency | Shame in Addiction | Guilt in Addiction | Addiction in Relationship | Infidelity | Therapy for Addiction | Objectification | Hypersexualization | Pornography Industry | Attachment Styles | Sexual Compulsivity | Behavioral Therapy | RelaSupport the show

More than that, he had stretchy mouth that could fit a dozen eggs in it, he ate live cats and maybe even nibbled dead people. Geordie takes a deep dive into this human house of horrors... Michelle follows with a look at some strange eating habits starting with Lisa the crazy cat lady. Not only does she love cats, but she also loves licking them - and eating their fur. On Saturday 9th of October 2021, mother-of-four Nicole Hurley was brutally attacked in her bed; only the man who murdered her wasn't a stranger who'd stalked her or a burglar who'd broken in, but the jealous and controlling boyfriend she'd loved, lay beside, and raised a family with for half of her life. That night, he took her life, orphaned her children and devasted her family, yet - like so many domestic assaults which culminate in a killing – it could have been stopped, if only he'd got himself some help.Date: Sunday 10th of October 2021 at 12:30am (rough time of attack)Location: Block 2, Kingsland Estate, Broxwood Way, Primrose Hill, London, NW8.Victim: 1 (Nicole Ann Hurley)Culprits: 1 (Jason Bell). Saturday 19th of December 1992 at 2:20pm, behind a wooden hut at White City bus depot off Caxton Road in Shepherd's Bush, the body of 32-year-old successful Peter Wickins was found, he was naked except for a pair of socks and had been stabbed 19 times. The Police assumed because he was a millionaire dressed in a tuxedo and that his Rolex watch was missing, that it must be a robbery gone wrong. We've hit a low ebb. The show which won Best Entertainment Podcast at the British Podcast Awards just a few years ago is dredging the bottom of the barrel. That new low being production staff researching their credit scores ‘live' on the show. Throw in a chat with an expert on credit ratings and it's a wall to wall credit ball. And at such an ebb one would have thought it would lift the mood of Robins. This is him. Distilled Robins. But no. Rather, it's broken him, because Dave has a 999 credit score without even having a credit card. Something which he simply cannot recover from. And this has affected the mood. What ensues is a breakdown. A breakdown over being unable to nudge the needle from 999 to 1000. And a breakdown over autofilling card details on a laptop. And that's not the end of it as we see the dangers of a John with access to a credit expert on demand. Somebody break glass for a kilo of Dairy Milk to save us for the Tuesday episode record.Do you have something thrilling to add to this enthralling credit chat? The chances are remote but it's elisandjohn@bbc.co.uk or 07974 293 022 on WhatsApp if you want to subject the production staff to some light reading.

Trust—it's a five-letter word that makes the world go 'round. In this episode, JVN sits down with Rachel Botsman, a leading expert on trust in the modern world, to explore the role trust plays in our relationships, decisions, and even society at large. Together, they dive into why trust isn't just a feeling but a belief, how impulsivity and unmet expectations erode it, and how to rebuild trust with ourselves and others after it's been broken. They unpack why “trust is a confident relationship with the unknown,” how learning to navigate uncertainty strengthens our self-trust, and the practical ways to foster trust through small, consistent actions.  Rachel Botsman is a leading expert on trust in the modern world. She has authored three highly acclaimed books—What's Mine is Yours, Who Can You Trust?, and out now, How to Trust and Be Trusted. A sought-after speaker, her TED talks have amassed over five million views. Rachel teaches at Oxford University's Saïd Business School, where she created pioneering courses on trust in the digital age.
