Don't you forget about The Breakfast Club sequel. We didn't but the internet tried to trick us. It's doccie time with the life story of Gary Coleman and the death stories of 80s hair band members. The resurrection theme continues in Dori's movie of the week while Paulo's movie is so silly it's almost art. As we celebrate #BTTFDAY24 we examine the technology that came true and the ones that never materialised. We're looking at you, hoverboards. Finally Freddy Krueger even scared the crap out of himself and made an entire generation distrustful of anyone in a green and red striped jersey. Sam Harris speaks with Derren Brown about his work as a “psychological illusionist.” They discuss the power of hypnosis, the power of expectations, the usefulness of Stoic philosophy, and other topics. Derren Brown began his UK television career in December 2000 with a series of specials called Mind Control. In the UK his name is now pretty much synonymous with the art of psychological manipulation. Amongst a varied and notorious TV career, Derren has played Russian Roulette live, convinced middle-managers to commit armed robbery, led the nation in a séance, stuck viewers at home to their sofas, successfully predicted the National Lottery, motivated a shy man to land a packed passenger plane at 30,000 feet, hypnotized a man to assassinate Stephen Fry, and created a zombie apocalypse for an unsuspecting participant after seemingly ending the world. He has also written several best-selling books and – a first in the history of magic – has toured with eight sell-out one-man stage shows. The shows have garnered a record-breaking five Olivier Award nominations for Best Entertainment, and won twice. This means Derren has had the largest number of nominations and wins for one-person shows in the history of the Awards. His 2017 US debut show SECRET won the New York Drama Desk Award for Unique Theatrical experience and is planning a Broadway return in 2019. His Latest book is Happy: Why More or Less Everything is Absolutely Fine. Since the 1980's, Brian Edwards — multi-award-winning celebrity talent executive, producer, writer and occasional performer — has worked with many of the biggest names in the history of show business. A brief sampling includes: Donna Summer, Joan Rivers, Cindy Crawford, Susan Sarandon, Melissa Rivers, Whoopi Goldberg, Farrah Fawcett, Shirley Jones, Naomi Judd and Vanessa Williams. In 2013, with the publication of his debut book, “Enter Miss Thang,” another title attached to Edwards is “gay icon.” His unabashedly honest and side-splitting memoir became a national best seller and received several awards along the way, including top honors at The National Indie Excellence Awards, The International Book Awards and the IBPA Awards, to ultimately become the most honored LGBT non-fiction book of 2014. In 2019, never one to let the party end, Edwards published his follow-up, titled, “I Might Have Been Queen” (And Other Things I Didn't Mention Before), filled with even more colorful stories laced with humor, chaos and inspiration. Affirming Edwards' stature and literary following, “I Might Have Been Queen,” garnered similar attention to receive a string of awards in 2020, including “Best LGBTQ Non-Fiction” and “Best Humor” at the International Book Awards and “Best Entertainment” from the National Indie Excellence Awards. Ep #118 with Derrik Jordan - World Fusion Classical This episode features a selection of my World Fusion Classical music - compositions of mine for classical groups that are influenced by a wide variety of World Music styles. “Suite For An Imaginary Country” is a piece for string orchestra performed in May 2021 in Brattleboro, VT by Juno Orchestra under the direction of Zon Eastes. It is in 3 movements - Dark Matter, Penta Waltz and O. G. Raga. After it was performed Serenity Smith Forchion of Nimble Arts choreographed an aerial dance in the trees to the piece which is included in this episode. The second piece is an excerpt of "Five Gamelans For Brass Quintet," the last movement, called The Masked Dancer Retells An Ancient Tale. It is performed by The Kyodai Brass Quintet. The final piece in this episode is “Thorn Forest Walkabout” for two cellos and dumbek. Jared Shapiro and Stephen Katz play the cellos and I am on the dumbek. Just out! Ep #115 - The World Fusion Show brings you Fula Brothers, a duo of kamale ngoni and guitar with Mamadou Sidibe (Mali) and Walter Strauss (US). Mamadou was the inventor of the kamale ngoni and which he developed from the dusngoni, the original hunter's harp with 6 strings from Mali, which had previously been used only for ceremony. He added more strings (14 now) and in spite of ongoing resistance from the traditionalists, it has become very popular in Mali and throughout West Africa. I have a beautiful one that I play often on The World Fusion Show. It's one of my favorite instruments. Please share this episode with your friends and help us spread this great music all over the planet! Amongst a varied and notorious TV career, Derren has played Russian Roulette live, convinced middle-managers to commit armed robbery, led the nation in a séance, stuck viewers at home to their sofas, successfully predicted the National Lottery, motivated a shy man to land a packed passenger plane at 30,000 feet, hypnotised a man to assassinate Stephen Fry, and created a zombie apocalypse for an unsuspecting participant after seemingly ending the world.
