DMV Hoops Podcast – Episode 105
Carly Thibault-DuDonis has quickly built Fairfield University into one of the premier mid-major programs in women's college basketball. In just four seasons as head coach, she has led the Stags to three straight MAAC Championships and NCAA Tournament appearances, establishing a culture of consistency and winning that has elevated Fairfield onto the national stage. Year after year, the Stags have continued to dominate the conference while earning recognition as one of the best mid-major teams in the country. What separates Fairfield is its offensive identity. The Stags have consistently ranked near the top of the nation in both three-point percentage and total three-pointers made, thriving in a modern 5-out offensive system that emphasizes spacing, ball movement, and player freedom. Fairfield's ability to stretch defenses and create efficient offensive looks has made them one of the most entertaining and difficult teams to guard in the country, while also showcasing Thibault-DuDonis' creativity and adaptability as a coach. Now, the next step for the program is breaking through on the NCAA Tournament stage. Despite the program's sustained success and conference dominance, Thibault-DuDonis is still chasing her first NCAA Tournament victory as a head coach. With key core pieces returning and the foundation of the program stronger than ever, Fairfield appears poised for another major run—and potentially the breakthrough moment that could take the Stags to an entirely new level nationally.Available wherever you get your podcasts. This episode comes at you raw, recorded beside a late-night fire in New Zealand's incredible mountain country. New Zealand is known for red stags of prehistoric size, mountain game that are incredibly unique, and the spectacular country that Lord Of The Rings was filmed in. In a hunters world, NZ is mostly special for the red stags. Here, we talk about why, and outfitter Darren Clifford and his staff share insight into the back story that goes into creating a place and an operation that consistently produces challenging, rewarding hunts and world-class animals. Plus, several hunters around the campfire share the stories of their hunts. Naturally, the gear-head in us comes out and we talk through the rifles, cartridges, bullets, and optics we're all using and a few lessons learned along the way. ENJOY! Post‑Mansfield (A) FA Cup 5th Round / Pre‑Leverkusen (A) UCL R16 1st LegArsenal are into the FA Cup quarterfinals after a gritty, muddy, tough 2–1 win away at Mansfield. In this episode, Tabs and Andy break down a classic lower‑league cup tie full of cliches, heavy tackles, bobbling passes, and two absolute thunder‑bastards from Madueke and Eze that ultimately dragged Arsenal through. The lads dive into the heavily rotated XI — including the historic double‑start for 16‑year‑olds Max Dowman and Marli Salmon, the first time a Premier League club has ever started two 16‑year‑olds in a competitive match . They unpack the confusing, shape‑shifting formation, the early Mansfield pressure, and why the pitch turned the match into a tactical fever dream. There's huge praise for Dowman's outrageous composure and spatial awareness (“the word that comes to mind is inevitable” ), and equal love for Salmon's fearless performance at centre‑back. They also discuss Mosquera's hesitation for the Mansfield goal, Martinelli's frustrating afternoon, Jesus' anonymity, and the growing concern around Calafiori's recurring niggles.Tabs and Andy also look ahead to the Champions League Round of 16 first leg away at Bayer Leverkusen — the atmosphere, the tactical matchup, the likely XI, and why getting the job done early could save Arsenal from a stressful second leg. Tabs even previews his away‑day trip to Germany, complete with Frankfurt and Cologne detour. As always, the episode wraps with your Three‑Word Reviews, FA Cup draw chat, and a look at the wider European fixtures that could shape Arsenal's season.Key Talking Points:The Mansfield pitch: “free‑flowing slurry” and pure magic of the FA Cup Historic moment: two 16‑year‑olds starting for ArsenalMax Dowman's outrageous talent and why he feels inevitableMarli Salmon's maturity and last‑man interventionsMadueke: worldie one minute, Row Z the nextJesus' struggles, Martinelli's frustration, and squad rotation realitiesCalafiori injury worries and Arteta's cautious approachMansfield's intensity, physicality, and surprisingly strong performanceArsenal's 100th goal of the season and insane win/loss recordChampions League preview: Leverkusen's shape, threats, and vulnerabilitiesFixture congestion, title‑race psychology, and the importance of managing the run‑inFollow, rate, and subscribe on your favourite podcast app.Find us on socials: @thegroveafcThis is The Grove, and everyone is welcome. Beloved, Happy Solstice - the RETURN TO LIGHT. This day is a moment every year when the world is invited to pause and to stop. It's quiet, almost imperceptible, but if you're paying attention—you can feel it.It happens on the Winter Solstice. The longest night. The shortest day. The edge between what has been and what is yet to come.We call it a turning point, but really—it's a still point. As the earth tilts away from the sun, everything pauses. The trees sleep. The fields rest. Even our bodies seem to crave slower rhythms, as if the ancient part of us remembers: this is the time to exhale.“The day/night of Winter Solstice is a liminal time… the moment between nights getting longer and nights getting shorter.”In the rush of daily life, we rarely let ourselves pause in that in-between. We push through dark mornings. We complain about early sunsets. We fill every silence with something to do.The White Stag, a symbol of the Winter Solstice, represents Spirit or messengers in many cultures. Seen as purified totems glowing with inner light, they offer teachings and wisdom from beyond that can transform us in unexpected ways. White Stags are also considered doorways to other realms, both a blessing and a force to be respected—following them may demand everything from you with no guarantee of return. The White Stag's link to the Winter Solstice comes from the season's clarity: with foliage gone, stark contrasts reveal what was hidden. In winter, stags are at their most powerful—gathering herds, mating for the next generation, protecting them, and embodying the forest's spirit. But just as the Solstice marks the pause before light's return, we too need the pause before renewal. So how do we embrace this? Here's what rises:* Breathe in the dark. Literally. Stand outside at noon on Solstice. Let the gloom press against your skin. Inhale stillness. Exhale striving.* Sharpen your tools. Not just hammers or skis—but your inner ones. What thoughts, habits, or regrets clutter your spirit? Write them down, then burn or bury the paper.* Move like the whitestag. Stags do not rush in the presence of fear..* It listens. Sit quietly for 10 minutes. Notice what shifts when you stop doing.Reflect with me:* What burden are you ready to release, like the stag shedding antlers?* Where might the White Stag appear in your ordinary? A sunset? A child's laugh?* How can you honor the sacred pause, instead of rushing toward spring?Winter Solstice doesn't promise instant rebirth. It gifts us a threshold—a chance to stand bare and brave, trusting that light will return. As the example of the seasonal symbol of the White Stag - they show us, strength and grace are dance partners. Shed the unnecessary. Rest deeply. Let your inner light rekindle. The longest night is not an end. It's the breath before the dawn.Love and deep rest, KassandraHey….PS:In times of change and uncertainty, knowing which step to take next can feel overwhelming. The path to sovereign wealth and intentional living requires us to tap into our most valuable resource: our intuition. The Light Between Oracle Journey is your personal guide—offering oracle readings, reflective journaling prompts, and tools to ground your inner knowing. It blends ancient wisdom with modern neuroscience to help you find clarity and take empowered action, one breath, one choice at a time. When I provide a topic or block for transformation, I help uncover life's hidden light, waiting for you to bring it forth.Choose to be in the drivers seat to self empowerment and next-era growth.

Around this time every year, dozens of parents of high school prospects ask IL's Terry Foy some version of the question, "How does recruiting work?" In an effort to round out that answer, he's interviewing a series of DI men's lacrosse coaches about their process, continuing with Fairfield head coach Andrew Baxter. Entering year seven as the Stags' head coach, Baxter is coming off of his best season yet and had arguably built his best recruiting class with the '26s. But make no mistake — he didn't recruit that group on the back of his team's on-field success; they were verballed before the season started. It suggests a coach who's gotten comfortable in his surroundings.

The Southeastern 16 crew of Graham Doty, Jay Greeson and Chris Lee break down the Conway Regional. Topics include: Coastal Carolina was the country's best team from outside the Power 4, with MLB catching prospect Caden Bodine and Blake Barthol (12 HR, 12 SB) part of an offense that stole 99 bases and hit 56 home runs. The Chanticleers can pitch with anyone thanks to a starting trio of Jacob Morrison, Cameron Flukey and Riley Eikhoff, a bullpen of Matthew Potok , Dominic Carbine and Ryan Lunch and confidence that comes from a 48-11 record. Florida was as hot as any team in the country over the last six weeks. The Gators are led by a pair of premium MLB pitching prospects in Liam Peterson and Aidan King and a host of other talented arms like Jake Clemente, Pierce Coppola and Luke McNeillie. The Gators survived serious injures to a number of star players thanks to standout offensive performances from infielder Bobby Boser (16 HR) and Brody Donay (17), star freshman first baseman Brendan Lawson (nine). No one prepares his team better for the postseason than coach Kevin O'Sulllivan; can the Gators work some postseason magic again? Coach Cliff Godwin's East Carolina squad needed to win the American Athletic tournament to get here. The Pirates, a perennial mid-major powerhouse, are led by lefty slugger Dixon Williams (13 HR) and pin their pitching hopes on lefty Ethan Norby. Fourth-seeded Fairfield got here by winning the Metro Atlantic Athletic conference tournament and is 39-17 entering the regional. Fairfield had 14-homer seasons from Luke Nomura and Matthew Bucciero to lead its offense. The Stags got great starting pitching from Ben Allison and Bowen Baker and will need more of it against a loaded field.

It walks without a flag.It looks like this: a deaf and blind man named Tim, finding his way onto a flight in Boston, one hand stretched out into the dark. And a stranger gives up his seat, and flight attendants allow their faces to be touched so he can know they are there, so he can feel the kindness in the lines of their cheeks. It looks like a fifteen-year-old girl named Clara, spelling words into the palm of a man she's just met—letter by letter, patience and grace made flesh. This is the revolution the world forgets. The kind that takes no pictures. The kind that doesn't tweet. The kind that doesn't need a camera crew to know it mattered.

March is a big month on the American Jesuit calendar because it's the biggest month for men's and women's college basketball. The March Madness tournaments are the most purely fun and chaotic sporting events on the planet. Nothing beats massive single elimination tournaments if you're looking for surprises and drama. And these tournaments are often big showcases for our Jesuit colleges and universities, many of which have rich basketball histories. In recent decades, no Jesuit program has been more successful than the Gonzaga University Bulldogs men's team, led since 1999 by head coach Mark Few. And one person you might notice on the end of the bench if you watch a Gonzaga men's or women's game this March is a rather short guy wearing a red Gonzaga sweater over black clerical attire. This is Father Bryan Pham, SJ, a Jesuit priest and the chaplain for both Bulldog hoops teams. You might think someone with this job would be a huge basketball fan. Not so in Fr. Bryan's case, who was quick to tell host Mike Jordan Laskey that he rarely understands what he's watching on the court. Fr. Bryan is a huge fan of the athletes themselves, though, and he sees his role as one of availability and spiritual support. We wanted to find out what the work of a Jesuit basketball chaplain entails and what March Madness looks like through his eyes. Fr. Bryan also shared reflections about his many other roles at the university. He's a lawyer by training and serves as a professor and chaplain at the law school, runs legal clinics and appears in court with his student interns, and lives in a freshman dorm on campus. We know you'll love getting to know this thoughtful, funny, impossibly busy Jesuit. Go Bulldogs. And go Bluejays, Golden Eagles, Musketeers and Stags. Fr. December 12th is the night that everyone has been waiting for. The invitation is cryptic - it takes some guests weeks to figure out what it reads. “Sdaeh tsilaer & sesserd gnol eit kcalb?” The secret is this - you have to reflect it into the mirror to figure out what it says. “Black tie, long dresses & surrealist heads.” Welcome to the Rothschild's (one of the wealthiest and most powerful families) newest secret party. Everyone walks in donning a giant bejeweled mask of animals that you would normally hunt. Stags. Deer. Birds in cages. The staff in the massive mansion are dressed as cats, perched on the stairs, meowing at the passing guests. There's no way they're not hunting people afterwards right? That's always been the conspiracy. Rich people hunting the poor for sport. But what if it is true? What if it happened in South Korea and became the inspiration of the Netflix show - Squid Game?
