TV & Movie Reviews: Spiderman (2002) This week we go back to 2002 and review Spiderman (2002) starring Toby Maguire. It was a massive movie back in 2002 beating Harry Potter to become the first movie to make $100 million in its first 3 days of opening. Plot Summary: Based on Marvel Comics' superhero character, this is a story of Peter Parker who is a nerdy high-schooler. He was orphaned as a child, bullied by jocks, and can't confess his crush for his stunning neighborhood girl Mary Jane Watson. To say his life is "miserable" is an understatement. But one day while on an excursion to a laboratory a runaway radioactive spider bites him... and his life changes in a way no one could have imagined. Peter acquires a muscle-bound physique, clear vision, ability to cling to surfaces and crawl over walls, shooting webs from his wrist ... but the fun isn't going to last. An eccentric millionaire Norman Osborn administers a performance enhancing drug on himself and his maniacal alter ego Green Goblin emerges. Now Peter Parker has to become Spider-Man and take Green Goblin to the task... or else Goblin will kill him. They come face to face and the war begins in which only one of them will survive at the end. Divine Cinema - Progressive Christian Movie Reviews & Analysis
The Shack is a cinematic attempt at answering the age old question of, “Where is God when bad things happen to good people?”. Jeff, Dylan and Adam discuss how this film does in approaching such a complex issue. Does The Shack sell out the gospel with over simplified answers to complex questions or does it provide a solid foundation of theological discovery? Initial Thoughts (00:39) Review of The Shack (05:44) Ratings and Redeemed Perspectives (54:31) PLOT SUMMARY Based on the novel of the same name, The Shack follows Mack Phillips in the aftermath of his daughter's kidnapping. His worst fears are confirmed when the police discover his daughter’s blood and discarded clothes in a shack in the middle of the woods. Later, he receives a mysterious letter in his mailbox asking him to come to the shack once again. The letter is signed by ‘Papa’, the name his daughter used for God. Thinking is being lured there by his daughter’s killer he decides to go and soon realizes that it was not his daughter’s killer that brought him there, but God. And through a few days in the Shack, talking with various forms of the Trinity, Mack finally begins to deal with his grief. RELEVANT LINKS From Our Review of The Shack The Shack by William P. Review Summary: Les thought this film was overhyped, but Ann found valuable lessons in the story. Plot Summary: Based on the play of the same name, this film follows the journey of a gay man who struggles to survive his rough Miami neighborhood.
Review Summary: Although raunchy, Ann and Les found this movie to be terribly funny and entertaining, and they thought Leonardo DiCaprio was just wonderful as the lead. Plot Summary: Based on the true story of Jordan Belfort, this movie chronicles his rise as a wealthy stockbroker living a glamorous life to his subsequent fall into crime and corruption.
