Slam The Gavel is honored to have Pennsylvania State Representative Jamie Flick on the podcast. Jamie Flick represents Pennsylvania's 83rd Legislative District, serving parts of Lycoming and Union Counties. Today we discussed House Bill 378, which reduces the factors considered during child custody issues from 19 to 12. Mr. Flick's amendment improves the bill by requiring family courts to provide anyone named in a custody petition with a written copy of the new factors when decisions are made which add clarity and transparency to the process, creating a better future for children. This amendment was unanimously approved by the House requires the court to give everyone a copy of the new factors within 30 days of modifications being made. This clarification helps parents to participate more fairly in the process. Once this amendment was added to this legislation, it took a little more than 30 days for the Senate to unanimously pass the bill and Governor Shapiro to sign it. We discussed the shady Domestic Relations Units, the NECESSITY of CAMERAS in the COURTROOMS and the amount of false accusations Pennsylvania State Police see every year. 80% are false accusations. With Dion back on the mic, we begin by questioning his curious choice to take place his call in another room but on speaker. This quickly turns into a debate about phone etiquette, hands-free habits, and whether Dion’s long-standing fear of mobile radiation is paranoia or just good prep. We also examine the strange acoustics of speaker mics, the performance of whispering taxi drivers, and the phone-in-bra technique favoured by certain mums. Next, we tackle the strange panic that sets in when a rogue soccer ball rolls your way at the park. Josh recounts a high-pressure moment in Princes Park where he had to choose between a casual pass or a full-blown toe-bash. Do you prioritise style or accuracy? Should you stick to the sport’s rules when returning the ball? And is there a small part of all of us that hopes we’ll be immediately recruited? Finally, we chew over one of life’s most quietly stressful conundrums: where do you throw away chewing gum when there’s no bin around? Flick it, wrap it, or pocket it for later disposal? Dana and Tom are joined by first-time guests, Frankie and Scott (Shoot the Flick), to discuss another Best Picture nominee from 1960 with Elmer Gantry - celebrating its 65th anniversary: written and directed by Richard Brooks, cinematography by John Alton, music by Andre Previn, starring Burt Lancaster, Jean Simmons, Arthur Kennedy, and Shirley Jones.Plot Summary: Based on a novel by Sinclair Lewis, Elmer Gantry's story follows the titular character (Burt Lancaster), a charismatic but morally dubious traveling salesman who uses his charm and persuasive skills to infiltrate the world of evangelical revivalism. He joins forces with Sister Sharon Falconer (Jean Simmons), a passionate preacher, and together they build a thriving religious movement. “Having your heart right towards your child is probably the most important thing you can do... but how you communicate is right up there too.” In this episode of I’ll Do Better Tomorrow, we share two powerful parenting wins from our own family this week. From navigating bedtime battles with our youngest to having a meaningful (and sometimes hilarious) conversation about consent and relationships with our teens, this is real-life parenting in action. These are the conversations that create connection, foster trust, and build resilience — and we’re sharing exactly how we did it. KEY POINTS: A Bedtime Breakthrough: How revisiting the basics (routines, rituals, and conversations) transformed bedtime struggles with our youngest daughter. The Power of the 3 E’s: Explore, Explain, Empower — a simple yet profound communication framework that creates buy-in, not battles. Tricky Talks That Stick: Why our once-a-month ‘tough talks’ with our teens have become weekly — and how they’re building confidence and safety around topics like consent, relationships, pressure, and boundaries. Start Early, Talk Often: Even our 11-year-old stayed engaged in a complex conversation about consent, showing that these conversations are never too early (or too late). It’s Not About Perfection: Success comes from showing up, leaning in, and keeping the conversations going — not from getting it right every time. QUOTE OF THE EPISODE: “When kids understand the rationale, things go so much better.” RESOURCES MENTIONED: Happy Families – Resources for a happier family. Consent.gov.au – Consent resources and the Consent Can’t Wait campaign. Parental Guidance TV Show – Channel 9 and 9Now. ACTION STEPS FOR PARENTS: Use the 3 E’s: Next time you face a challenge, pause and ask yourself — have I explored their perspective, explained mine, and empowered them to help solve it? Rethink Bedtime: If routines are breaking down, revisit rituals that worked when they were younger — and involve your child in creating the new plan. Schedule Tricky Talks: Don’t wait for problems to arise. Make space for regular conversations about emotions, consent, relationships, and boundaries. Make It Fun (and Safe): Keep these talks light, warm, and open — banter, laughter, and snacks help! Remember the Timing: Big conversations are most effective when emotions are calm — not in the middle of conflict. Cinematic Sound Radio - Soundtracks, Film, TV and Video Game Music
Welcome to Cinematic Sound Radio's celebration of the 35th anniversary of Film Score Monthly. In 1990, a young film music fan named Lukas Kendall began what was to become Film Score Monthly with a Xeroxed newsletter sent to a handful of fans who signed up to receive the snail mail newsletter. From there, the newsletter turned into one of the biggest soundtrack publications in the world. The magazine's run ended in 2005 at 150 issues. It ceased printing due to budgetary reasons. The magazine, however, still lives on in the digital world as FSM On-Line. A byproduct of the magazine was a record label, which began in 1998 with the release of Jerry Goldsmith's STAGECOACH / THE LONER. Lukas would go onto produce 250 FSM CDs, many of them long-sought-after "holy grails." The label would cease production in 2013. The website and popular message board are still running, but are in desperate need of updating. That's where you come in. Lukas is currently raising money on Kickstarter to help fund a brand-new website, message board, book, CD and more! As of the release of this episode on June 20th, 2025, the Kickstarter has reached its initial goal of $25,000 and is currently in its stretch run to raise an additional $25,000. Good horror films should terrify audiences with memorable monsters and eerie effects, but great horror will also fearlessly tackle timely issues with complex characters and impactful resolve. This is exactly what Tina Romero does in her feature debut, “Queens of the Dead,” with her talented team of collaborators. Though she never expected to make a movie about zombies, the title makes for a beautiful nod to her dad, George, aka the “Father of the Zombie Film” or “Godfather of the Dead,” while still remaining true to herself. Which, as a talented multi-hyphenate, allowed her to imbue the film with even more soul and called back to her early days as a DJ. She speaks to the collective energy music fosters, how her DJ name added another layer to the film's setting, and how Kesha became the ideal voice for a queer-coded apocalyptic battle cry. Romero joined me for a lively, revealing interview along with producer Natalie Metzger and actors Tomás Matos (Fire Island, Fantasmas) and Julie J before the film's premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival. They all expressed their overwhelming excitement for working on a project that was as unapologetically queer and richly imagined, and were quick to hype up their sensational co-stars, including: Katy O'Brian, Jaquel Spivey, Riki Lindhome, Margaret Cho, Quincy Dunn-Baker, Jack Haven, Nina West, Dominique Jackson, and Cheyenne Jackson. Furthermore, they credit the makeup designer Christina Grant, hair department head Mitchell Beck, and costume designer David Tabbert for creating unforgettable looks that quite literally slay the house down boots. The effortless rapport in the following recording and seen on-screen is a direct result of the entire team cultivating a sense of community and tolerance. Attacks against the LGBTQ+ community continue every day and this film is a testament that having an open dialogue and fighting back with kindness and honesty is the only way to achieve a brighter, more accepting future.

Welcome to the first-ever FREE edition of the FRIDAY PLAYLIST. Back in August of 2024, as a way to quickly produce some new content while I worked on the main podcast program, I came up with a weekly segment, exclusive to Patreon, called THE CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO FRIDAY PLAYLIST. Basically, this was to be a revival of my old school Film Music Mix programs, where I played a variety of unrelated cues with commentary. Many of the FRIDAY PLAYLIST episodes feature a 7-10 minute opening commentary about what I was going to play, and then you could sit back and listen to an hour of uninterrupted film music curated by yours truly, as well as members of the Patreon. And in case I couldn't put on a show, other hosts of CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO would step in for me. It was so successful that I spent the vast majority of my podcasting time producing FRIDAY PLAYLIST and, unfortunately, neglecting the main feed. So, I decided to come up with a compromise. Every month, I will attempt to produce two FRIDAY PLAYLIST shows (or other themed programs) a month for the main feed and two shows a month that will live behind the paywall. Those Patreon-exclusive playlists will feature far more interesting cues from hard-to-find scores and commercially unreleased music. If you want to hear those programs, then please head over to OUR PATREON and sign up. Ok, with that out of the way, please enjoy today's episode dedicated to SWORD AND SORCERY films. You'll hear selections from HERCULES (Velazquez), HUNDRA (Morricone), BEOWULF (Silvestri), KNIGHTS OF THE ROUND TABLE (Rozsa), THE MISTS OF AVALON (Holdridge), THE SWORD AND THE SORCERER (Whitaker) and HERCULES: THE LEGENDARY JOURNEY (LoDuca). Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it's... Richard Pryor with a supercomputer? On this episode of the 80s Flick Flashback, Tim Williams is joined by guest co-host Laramy Wells to discuss the 80s Flick sequel that nearly torpedoed the Superman franchise with its emphasis on silly sight-gags instead of the Man of Steel mythos. Will they defend the decision to replace arch-nemesis Lex Luthor with billionaire Ross Webster? Will they be able to make sense of a synthetic Kryptonite and that epic junkyard brawl? Stay tuned as they kick off the new Summer of Sequels 2 series with their nostalgic views and rad review of “Superman III” from 1983 on this episode of the 80s Flick Flashback! Here are some additional behind-the-scenes trivia we were unable to cover in this episode:When producers were first informed that Lana Lang would be a single mother, a comic book was quickly written to explain how Lana arrived at that situation. The video game that Ross Webster plays was created for the film by the Atari Corporation. Atari had also made a "Superman III" video game, based on the film, for the Atari 5200, but it was never released.Sources:Wikipedia, IMDB, BoxOfficeMojoSome sections were composed by ChatGPTWe'd love to hear your thoughts on our podcast! Hello Rank Squad! With the conclusion at the weekend of the domestic campaigns still running, we thought it was a good time to look back on the season just gone and hand out some awards for the best (and worst) of what we've seen across the board. We start by talking about our favourite stories of this season, where we both plump for underdogs turning their seasons around, before we head into the main event. Across the Premier League and the rest of continental football, Dean and Jack work through Players, Managers and Clubs of the Season; before finishing off with the Letdowns of this campaign, and the Best Signings for good measure. It's Ranks! And remember, if you'd like more from the Rank Squad, including extra podcasts every Monday and Friday (including our weekly Postbox taking a look at the whole weekend of football) and access to our brilliant Discord community, then why not join us here on Patreon?

It's time for The Truth!Today, Sam and Dougie are looking at how Hansi Flick's slightly surprising appointment at Barcelona last summer has turned into a masterstroke, and how the German has immediately brought the Blaugrana back to the top table of European football with a string of youngsters and some of the most exciting attacking football on the continent. There were question marks about Flick after his ill-fated tenure with the German national team, but his record at club level speaks for itself. And yet, when he was appointed at Barcelona to replace Xavi last summer, there were plenty who felt that this could be a step in the wrong direction for a Barcelona side mired in debt and already one step behind fierce rivals Real Madrid, who had just won La Liga and the Champions League, and then gone out and signed Kylian Mbappé, who was widely considered the best player in the world. But Flick took Xavi's possession-orientated philosophy and made it more direct, more streamlined; put his faith in the youngsters emerging from La Masia; and turned good players into superstars - all whilst staying true to his own brand of football and putting perhaps the boldest style of football in Europe on display for all to see. So was this a stroke of luck that the players matched his philosophy, or has the former Bayern treble-winner worked his magic again on another squad willing to do whatever he needs for them to get to the very top? Well, The Truth is somewhere in the middle... And remember, if you'd like more from the Rank Squad, including extra podcasts every Monday and Friday (including our weekly Postbox taking a look at the whole weekend of football) and access to our brilliant Discord community, then why not join us here on Patreon?
