To accept fate or follow your own path is what weighs heavily on the mind of epic figure created by Mike Mignola: Hellboy. A young devil summoned from hell when was saved during World War 2. Hellboy was raised in a wholesome environment, trained by the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense(BPRD) to fight and protect all things that lurk in the shadows. He just wants to do it on his own terms. When destiny calls to him at every corner to accept his duties Hellboy challenges each friend or foe that wants to control him, but he continues to fight for the world he believes in. Mignola's masterpiece is one of the greatest original heroes that rises to occasion in modern comics. Watching the inspiration from many different kinds of folkore and mythology weaved together through the writing as well as illustrations on the page is a story we highly recommend.

This week's episode is all about the unexpected hero from a place we would never suspect. This week we're taking a look back at the film 'Hellboy' from 2004. Written and directed by Guillermo Del Toro, 'Hellboy' is a superhero/action film that is based upon the comic book story originally created by author Mike Mignola. In the film, a demonic beast-turned superhero known as Hellboy secretly works to keep the world safe from paranormal threats with his team, the Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense. Is this one of director Guillermo Del Toro's finer works? We discuss this and more on our episode this week! Plot: At the end of World War II, the Nazis attempt to open a portal to a paranormal dimension in order to defeat the Allies, but are only able to summon a baby demon who is rescued by Allied forces and dubbed "Hellboy". Sixty years later, Hellboy serves as an agent in the Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense, where he, aided by Abe Sapien, a merman with psychic powers, and Liz Sherman, a woman with pyrokinesis, protects America against dark forces.

Kae Wilson from the Call Us Casters podcast sits down with Perry to discuss Hellboy II: The Golden Army. An original story written by Gulliermo del Toro, it's a movie that unfortunately didn't do as well as the first Hellboy film and ultimately resulted in an incomplete trilogy. We revisit Ron Perlman's excellent performance, Doug Jones stepping up to take on the voice of Abe Sapien, and how this movie proves del Toro needs to make a steampunk film. On this very special episode of The Terror Table, Mitch is joined by guest co-host, Arden Ross to welcome legendary fine artist, sculptor, make-up artist, and special FX artist Chet Zar. Chet is a world renowned fine artist specializing in Dark Art. He began his career working on films ranging from cult classics like THE BLOB (1988), DARKMAN (1990) and HOCUS POCUS (1993) eventually moving on to massive studio films like THE RING (2004), HELLBOY 1 & 2, PLANET OF THE APES (2001), and so many more. He eventually left the film industry to focus on fine art painting, which has resulted in multiple iconic pieces of dark art and acclaim from genre royalty like Clive Barker and Guillermo Del Toro. His latest piece of work is a brilliant book titled, DY5TOPIA: A FIELD GUIDE TO THE DARK UNIVERSE OF CHET ZAR. All of this and more is discussed on this episode. Welcome to the spookiest of seasons, kind friends and patrons! We know you know that all year is spooky season but we're now in the thick of the time where hopefully we can wear sweaters and stuff while we do our spooky bidding. This intro to October brings you the first in a series of films that we'll be releasing EACH WEEK during the month! That's right, a SHUDcast a week keeps your ears super bleak (but like in a good way). We kick it off here with… some pretty typical oddball talk up front but bring everything home with John Carpenter's IN THE MOUTH OF MADNESS — the final entry in the unofficial “Apocalypse Trilogy”. Season's Screamings to all! 00:00 - 22:40ish Intros: Cody learns of the existence of ‘Natural Harvest', Curtis brings Skyline Chili back from Ohio, and Austin plans surprise revenge against Cody. 22:40ish - 1:08:20ish What we watched these weeks! Jaws (Austin's wife, Kaylin, had never seen it), The Ruins, Mimic, Edward Scissorhands, Hatching, RRR (Austin finally did it), Bodies Bodies Bodies (Lucas was the first one to get to this but stay tuned because we all get to it), The Boys (Cody finished it, it's the best show maybe ever), Scary Movie, Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, Bullet Train, Here Comes Hell, The Predator, Predators (Cody clarifies that he did Curtis dirty), AvP and AvP: Requiem, Hellboy (2019 – Curtis did a rewatch), Predator, , Spider-Man (2002), Nope (Curtis took his parents!), Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, and…. 1:08:20ish - 1:27:00ish PREY (we loved it so much we went a little deep) 1:27:00ish - 2:09:30ish IN THE MOUTH OF MADNESS - SHUDdown and discussion 2:09:30ish - End - Our next movie!
