Dana and Tom are joined by first-time guests, Frankie and Scott (Shoot the Flick), to discuss another Best Picture nominee from 1960 with Elmer Gantry - celebrating its 65th anniversary: written and directed by Richard Brooks, cinematography by John Alton, music by Andre Previn, starring Burt Lancaster, Jean Simmons, Arthur Kennedy, and Shirley Jones.Plot Summary: Based on a novel by Sinclair Lewis, Elmer Gantry's story follows the titular character (Burt Lancaster), a charismatic but morally dubious traveling salesman who uses his charm and persuasive skills to infiltrate the world of evangelical revivalism. He joins forces with Sister Sharon Falconer (Jean Simmons), a passionate preacher, and together they build a thriving religious movement. However, Gantry's past and his self-serving nature threaten to unravel everything, leading to dramatic consequences.Guests:Frankie SparksCo-host of Shoot the Flick@shoottheflick on IG, Twitter@fsparks on LetterboxdScott EisenbergCo-host of Shoot the FlickChapters:00:00 Introduction and Welcome to Frankie and Scott00:46 Cast for Elmer Gantry03:01 Why Elmer Gantry? If YOU had to wear a "warning label," what would yours say?
We talked to "Jade" in Group Therapy about the recurring dreams she's having involving either her or her boyfriend cheating, and whether or not they are an indication of a real problem in her relationship. What would your warning label be if we all had one? And some #dadjokes!!!

Today, more rain in the forecast, however, it isn't supposed to be as severe as yesterday's weather. In sports, the "Thriller At Miller" didn't really live up to the hype…but the Brew Crew got the win! Round 1 of the NBA Draft was last night, an MLB fan has been banned indefinitely for some rather inappropriate comments directed at a player, Evander Kane is on the move, the NHL Hall Of Fame class got announced, and the NHL is also looking at expanding it's schedule. We let you know what's on TV today/tonight, and we spoke with Office Cora about what she's doing this weekend in the 715. Also, have you heard the news about Steve from "Blues Clues"? While Brian many lament the effectiveness of his Little Free Library in his front yard, there's no doubt that this Free Dog Library is working for this community! Plus, a missing wedding ring is found thanks to a diver who spent two days underwater looking for it! On Hypothetical Thursday, Brian asked Jean: "If you had to wear a warning label, what would it say?" And Jean's question for Brian was: " " Elsewhere in sports, Luis Rubiales lost his appeal in Spain's high court, a Baltimore Ravens player didn't go back into a game last season because he was too cold, and a former NASCAR owner has passed away. Send us a textPermission to feel shouldn't be something we need to ask for, yet we've created a culture where expressing authentic emotions feels like crossing a boundary. Why do we apologize before sharing our sadness? Why do we preface vulnerability with disclaimers? This episode dives deep into our collective discomfort with the full spectrum of human emotion. We've constructed a tiny, polished box where only happiness and productivity fit, making "okay" mean something artificially limited. But what if "okay" could be bigger? What if feeling sad was simply information, fear was your nervous system doing its job, and overwhelm was just a natural response to a complex world? When authenticity becomes radical instead of normal, we've lost something essential. The most powerful realization is that everyone struggles—even those who seem to have everything together. The person who appears perfectly composed also cries in parking lots; the one who always seems fine also lies awake at 3AM with racing thoughts. We're all pretending to be the polished version of ourselves when what we truly need is to remember that messy is okay too. This episode offers a practice for giving yourself permission to experience your full humanity without apology, without explanation—just truth. Because your humanity doesn't need a hall pass. It just needs space to exist.Take a moment to check in with yourself. Notice what's happening in your body without trying to fix it. Remember: be kind and gentle with yourself. You matter, and time is a tool, not a toy. Use it wisely.Support the show

Chris critiques Surgeon General Vivek Murthy's suggestion to include cancer warning labels on alcoholic beverages. He questions the effectiveness of such warnings, pointing out that labels are unlikely to deter consumption. Drawing on statistics, he highlights that moderate drinking accounts for only a small fraction of cancer-related deaths, challenging the narrative presented in government reports.Markowski also examines the broader implications of nanny-state policies, including past Surgeon General recommendations on workplace mental health and other social issues. He contrasts this with the personal responsibility ethos observed in less litigious parts of the world and emphasizes the importance of individuals managing their own choices without excessive government intervention. www.watchdogonwallstreet.com

Twitch's enforcement of community guidelines is criticized as biased and uneven, with streamers like Hasan avoiding bans despite rule violations while others like Asmongold face punishment. New content classification labels for political and sensitive issues may lead to censorship of certain content types due to Twitch's advertising policies. The platform's new labeling system aims to increase brand confidence and attract new advertisers, potentially prioritizing monetization over content diversity. Streamers who fail to accurately label their content will receive email warnings, with labels forcibly applied after multiple infractions. Viewers can toggle off political and sensitive content labels, potentially creating echo chambers and limiting exposure to diverse perspectives. Despite guidelines prohibiting racism, hatred, and religious discrimination, some high-profile streamers like Hassan allegedly remain unpunished for repeatedly violating these rules. Twitch's controversial shift towards political content and inconsistent moderation practices are causing backlash that could jeopardize its future amidst increasing competition and potential advertiser pressure. 00:00 Twitch's shift to political content is causing backlash and could threaten its future amid competition and potential bans on streamers. 02:36 Twitch faces backlash over inconsistent content moderation and banning practices, risking user trust and its commitment to a safe community. 05:09 Twitch's new political content warning label may protect high-revenue streamers from demonetization while imposing stricter penalties on others. 07:19 Twitch's inconsistent moderation and potential bias in new political guidelines could lead to ad revenue loss and even shutdown by Amazon, raising concerns about the platform's future. 10:16 Media Matters is pressuring advertisers to demonetize election deniers on YouTube, while Twitch faces backlash for keeping profitable controversial streamers, threatening its future. 12:13 Twitch's new political content label requires accurate application by streamers, affecting viewer connections and ad revenue with penalties for non-compliance. 14:26 Twitch's inconsistent moderation and increasing restrictions could drive streamers away, benefiting competitors like Kick. 16:35 Twitch's political warning label controversy could potentially lead to significant changes or even the end of the platform.

SHOULD WALKING THE CAMINO COME WITH A WARNING LABEL? In season five of the YOU on the Camino de Santiago podcast you are going to hear some amazing stories of perseverance, courage, determination, adventure, and community. Stories of shared meals, life-changing conversations, and new friendships, trail tested and built to last. You are also going to hear that things didn't always go as planned. There is a movement afoot to restrict young people's access to social media and pornography. Critics of social media and online porn argue that they can be harmful to minors, and states across the country are taking up the cause, considering laws that would impose age-verification, curfews, parental opt-ins, and other restrictions. Meanwhile, critics of the critics argue that the evidence of harm isn't so conclusive and that many of the proposed restrictions violate core civil liberties such as privacy and free speech. So, who's right?
