Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends (1981) was not created during a time period when Bobby Drake was canonically gay, but watching "The Origin of Iceman" sure has Maddy and Ryan wondering about that. Thanks to the return of Video-Man (who has his own origin episode earlier in this series), Bobby Drake loses his mutant powers. Under the pretext of researching why this could have happened, Peter Parker straps Bobby into the university lab's memory machine, which allows Angelica and Peter to watch all of Bobby's embarrassing high school social gaffes on a big-screen TV. We soon learn Bobby would rather create a blizzard than dance with a girl, and even now, he can't manage to sit next to a girl on a couch. Also, this episode has some all-time great J. Jonah Jameson comedy in it, so we're excited to see him as a recurring fixture on this show. Episode 83 - Murdock and Marvel: 2012 Part 2 2012 was a year when the big news in comics all happened outside of shops, with movie theaters and social media dominating the industry. This is part 2 of the podcast. that will feature the year in Daredevil, the Spotlight story and the Takeaway for 2012. The Year in Daredevil Appearances: Daredevil v3 #6-19, Daredevil: End of Days #1 Fantastic Four #600, New Avengers #19-24 and #30-31, Amazing Spider-Man #677, Punisher #7 and 10, Avengers #24, Avengers vs X-Men #1-4 and #7-9, Avenging Spider-Man #6, Hulk #50, AVX Vs #2, Daredevil Annual #1, Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe #4, Secret Avengers #33 Writer: Mark Waid (#6-19) Pencils: Marcos Martin (#6), Paolo Rivera (#7 and #9-10), Kano (#8), Khoi Pham (#10.1 and 13), Marco Checchetto (#11), Chris Samnee (#12, #14-16, and #18-19), Mike Allred (#17) Inks: Marcos Martin (#6), Joe Rivera (#7 and #9-10), Kano (#8), Khoi Pham (#10.1), Marco Checchetto (#11), Chris Smanee (#12, #14-16 and #18-19), Tom Palmer (#13), Mike Allred (#17) 2012 Begins with the last couple books of the Omege Drive, MegaCrime Organizations and the Mutually Assured Destruction that allowed Daredevil and friends to get out of a sticky situation but also left a target on Daredevil's back. In February, we get an award winning 1-shot where after Matt Murdock attends a holiday party, he volunteers to take some blind kids on a ski trip. The bus ends up getting into a crash and Daredevil tries to lead the kids out of the cold – but it ends up being the kids that save Murdock and themselves. In March, we get a two-part story that starts in Amazing Spider-Man #677 called “The Devil and the Details”. In it, we see Peter Parker lamenting his recent breakup with Carlie Cooper, trying to be cool with Black Cat (which goes horrible) and then seeking out Matt Murdock & Daredevil when Black Cat is arrested. She says she's been frames for a break-in at Horizon Labs. After Black Cat breaks out of police custody, the three locate the inventor of stolen Holographic projector. He's been poisoned and has little time to live. Spider-Man rushes him to a hospital while Black Cat and Daredevil secure the projector from members of Black Spectre and basically removing them as a threat. As a “reward” for helping, Black Cat and Daredevil passionately kiss with Spider-Man looking on and saying one of the best lines ever “I think this is my super villain origin.” They go back to Matt's place but before anything happens – he's called away to the graveyard of his father where some weird things are going on. Specifically, that his and other graves have been emptied. This leads us into the next story that involves heading underground and a confrontation with Mole Man. Mole Man is stealing coffins to try to find the love of his life Lorna whom he loved as Dr Harvey Elder and wants to be with. Daredevil ultimately “saves” the body of Lorna (and some diamonds) and returns to the surface. Upon going home, he reads a note from Black Cat admitting she was hired to steal the Omega Drive from him – but doesn't and warns him to watch his back After a 10.1 book that acts as a lead-up, we get a 3-part crossover where Spider-Man, Daredevil, and the Punisher team up in order to protect the Omega Drive from the Megacrime organizations with each book getting part of the story titled “The Omega Effect.” This will be our spotlight story this week. Next, we get a 1-shot story showing Matt Murdock and Kirsten McDuffie on a date – which goes well until a Black Spectre agent threatens the pair about the Omega Dive. That leads to a giant battle in the middle of Time Square between himself (with the Omega Drive) and the 4 megacrime organizations while the events are broadcast throughout the city. The fight ends with a Black Spectre Agent securing the drive and leaving. Later, Daredevil kicks down the door of Avengers Mansion, where members of the New Avengers - Wolverine, Mockingbird, Spider-Man, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage - are changing out of Black Spectre uniforms and we learn the fight in Time Square was staged and the drive is destroyed. Turns out there are repercussions for losing Latveria a lot of laundered money and Daredevil is next abducted and being held at Castle Doom in Latveria by the Minister of Bank Chancellor Exchequer Beltran. After a failed escape attempt, Daredevil is eventually rescued by the Avengers but not before some nanobots are injected into Daredevil causing his senses to all but disappear. Back in America, Hank Pym shrinks to micro size and enters Murdock's brain to fight the nanobots with the guidance of Dr Strange. Despite some weird readings, Pym successfully destroy all the nanobots and Murdock's senses start to return. Later, Murdock returns to Nelson & Murdock law offices where he's confronted by Foggy Nelson saying he's found Matt's secret – showing him Jack Murdock's remains and boxing gloves in Matt's desk. A stunned Matt tries to tell Foggy he didn't rob his own father's grave, that he's been set up, but Foggy will hear none of it. Foggy tells Matt that they're through until Matt gets the help he needs. After a flashback story involving Stilt-man, we see Nelson and Murdock still at odds over the remains. Foggy's worries about Matt's mental state are increased because Matt calls him and says Milla Donovan is in apartment unaware of anything bad ever happening to her. Nelson agrees to go to the hospital where Milla was committed if Daredevil will look into a case involving a drug lord Hierra dying and an innocent nurse accused of murder. The year ends with Foggy telling Matt that he must have hallucinated Milla because he can see her inside her room at the hospital. Daredevil going after one of the drug lords bosses only to suspect Jardeim Salazar himself seemly falls down an elevator shaft trying to escape him. That leads to Daredevil dropping in on the only other Hierra's bosses as he tries to consolidate power – Anthony Tortino. Daredevil tries to warn the men about their common enemy, but things quickly turn south. Daredevil believes it's The Spot who's doing all this and jumps into a circular black portal after Tortino but is knocked out. He awakens to his hands being cuffed behind a post. Daredevil shouts in rage that Spot is a dead man, but the black hands that abducted him pick his detached head and the tormentor introduces himself as Coyote. This Week's Spotlight: Avenging Spider-Man #6 June 2012 “The Omega Effect Part 1”, Punisher vol 9 #10 June 2012 “The Omega Effect Part 2” and Daredevil vol 3 #11 June 2012 “The Omega Effect Part 3” Recap Why We Picked This Story Daredevil Rapid Fire Questions The Takeaway It is getting harder to separate comics from culture, to the detriment of the industry and its readers. «With great power, comes great responsibility» (Ben Parker, Spiderman).

It's the 1930s and Peter Parker is a private detective by day, vigilante Spider-Man by night. Things were going well until a certain dame walked into his office to ask Peter to solve the case of her father's murder. The dame's name? GWEN STACY! This case may not only break George Stacy's police department, but Spider-Man himself!
The hilarious Jake Johnson, co-host of the We're Here To Help podcast and Peter Parker in the Spider-Verse films, joins Paul and Jason to cover Grizzly II: Revenge—a "horror" movie featuring George Clooney, Laura Dern, and Charlie Sheen that was filmed in 1983 and finally released in 2020 with a bunch of modern b-roll. They discuss all the concert footage, John Rhys-Davies' amazingly uncomfortable portrayal of Bouchard, the poachers who only want money and boners, the weird daddy/daughter vibes, and—wait... enough about the movie! Specifically, the alternate dimension showcased throughout Season 2 of Peacemaker is in fact the Nazi-ruled timeline of Earth-X. Subsequently, the "Peaceful Hips" emoji, which is based on a dance sequence from Season 2's opening dance number, has come under intense scrutiny, leading some to speculate that it is in fact a reference to an anti-Nazi Donald Duck short and/or the Nazi swastika. In a statement released via Twitter on Sept. 28, the official Fortnite Status account noted, "We're disabling the Peaceful Hips Emote in Fortnite as we inquire into our partner's creative intentions in this collab emote. Assuming it's not coming back, we'll issue refunds in the next few days. Sorry folks."

The greatest comic-book wedding of all, the complete story of Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson's 1980s nuptials — from proposal to ceremony to honeymoon! Venom has outed Peter Parker as Spider-Man to the Daily Bugle, and we try to untangle this wildly ambitious episode that might be just a little bit TOO ambitious! We get into the complications of the news media and paparazzi chasing Peter, Flash Thompson in a Spider-Man costume saving Spider-Man twice, a weirdly giggly Gwen Stacy, and one of the best and longest fight sequences in the series between Spidey and Venom! We're watching The Spectacular Spider-Man: Season 2, Episode 7: “Identity Crisis”.Website | Patreon | DiscordPart of The Glitterjaw Queer Podcast CollectiveContact us: @WallopingWebPod on Bluesky and InstagramEmail: wallopingwebsnapperspodcast@gmail.comTheme song features: “Resonance (Cyan & Ladybot Remix)” by HOME | License (CC BY 3.0)
Everyone has problems they are trying to fix, from daily struggles to deeper issues like anxiety or a broken marriage. In this message, Pastor Jason takes a look at the movie Spider-Man: No Way Home to explore how our problems, much like Peter Parker's, don't exist in a vacuum and often become someone else's pain. Just like Peter tried to ignore, hide, and fix his problems on his own, we often do the same. However, ignoring our problems won't make them go away, and hiding them only makes them grow more dangerous. The Bible says that our sin will track us down and that the consequence of sin is always "later and greater". It always leads to a harvest of decay and death. Ultimately, Spider-Man realizes that to fix everything, a great sacrifice must be made. Similarly, the Bible tells us that the wages of sin is death, which means a sacrifice must be made to fix our problems. The good news is that we don't have to be the ones to make that sacrifice. While we were still powerless and caught in our sin, Christ died for us. God loves and values us so much that Jesus was glad to die in our place, giving us the opportunity for a new life. If you're tired of running, hiding, or trying to fix your problems on your own, it's time to stop and trust in the free gift of forgiveness and salvation that Jesus offers. He is the only way to have a true fresh start.

Earl and Taboo on Ultimate Hawkeye one-shot - September 24, 2025 - Indigenous Voices book 1. Ultimate Hawkeye #1 is the first solo one-shot of the new Ultimate line — what excited you most about giving Charli Ramsey their own spotlight outside of Ultimates?2. Taboo, you've mentioned this issue is dedicated to your Indigenous relative Jeffrey Veregge — how did that dedication influence the tone or themes of the story?3. The reveal of an all-new Ultimate Ronin is huge — without spoiling too much, how did you want to reimagine this identity for the Ultimate Universe?4. You've both tackled grounded, character-driven Marvel stories before (Daredevil & Echo, Werewolf by Night). How did those past experiences shape your approach to writing in the heightened, alternate-reality stakes of the Ultimate Universe?5. This book also has a framing story by Deniz Camp and Juan Frigeri — how did you coordinate with them to make sure the one-shot felt both self-contained and part of the bigger Ultimate Endgame build-up?6. The Ultimate line has always been about bold reinvention — what's one thing you think this current era is doing better or differently than the original 2000s run?7. Michael Sta. Maria's art really pops in the preview pages — what kinds of visual cues or storytelling beats did you build into the script knowing his style?
I've always been captivated by origin stories. I don't just want to know that Peter Parker is Spider-Man, I want to know how he became Spider-Man. It's not only the Marvel Cinematic Universe that grabs my attention; I love real-life origin stories too. It's fascinating to learn that Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak launched Apple in Jobs' garage, or that Phil Knight started Nike by selling shoes out of the trunk of his car.In Acts 2, we find the origin story of God's new people—the church. If you want to know how a skinny, nerdy Peter Parker became a web-slinging, wall-climbing, friendly neighborhood hero, you go back to Marvel Comic's Amazing Fantasy #15, published in 1962. But if you want to know how a small group of uneducated, ordinary men and women ignited a worldwide movement that continues to this day, Acts 2 is the place to start.
This episode, we delve into the final chapters of Spider-Man's original Clone Saga from 1975 (Amazing Spider-Man #147 - 150, where Peter Parker has to face the uncertainty of whether or not he's the real Spidey or just some clone of the Jackal's.This saga also has Spidey dealing with his arch-foe Tarantula, who is in league with The Jackal in his insidious plot to get revenge on our webbed hero, in a saga written by Gerry Conway and drawn by Ross Andru.Who will win? Who will die? Only way to find out is to listen to this episode! (or actually read the books!]

Read transcriptWelcome web-slinging warriors and joystick jockeys to another thrilling episode of Play Comics where we untangle the sticky situation of comic-to-game adaptations with the precision of Peter Parker trying to explain away his sudden photography skills! This week we're diving headfirst into the cel-shaded spectacular that is Ultimate Spider-Man, the 2005 game that took Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Bagley's comic masterpiece and somehow convinced every gaming platform from here to the Daily Bugle that they needed a piece of this web-slinging action. Released across more systems than Spider-Man has quips in his arsenal—PS2, Xbox, GameCube, Game Boy Advance, and Nintendo DS—this Treyarch-developed adventure let players experience both sides of the symbiote coin. Whether you were swinging through Manhattan as everyone's favorite wise-cracking wall-crawler or stomping around as the terrifyingly toothy Venom, this game promised to deliver more comic book authenticity than J. Jonah Jameson has anti-Spider-Man editorials. Joining us for this ultimate discussion are two absolute legends from the podcasting multiverse: Derek B Gayle and Doug Fink, the dynamic duo behind Walloping Websnappers and a whole constellation of other fantastic shows on the Glitterjaw Queer Podcast Collective that may not be directly relevant to our web-slinging shenanigans today, but are undeniably brilliant nonetheless. When they're not busy dissecting every Spider-Man cartoon ever created or exploring the depths of various other pop culture phenomena, these two bring their encyclopedic knowledge of all things Spider to help us determine whether this game truly captured the essence of the Ultimate universe or if it just left us feeling like we'd been caught in one of Green Goblin's elaborate schemes. So dust off those early 2000s gaming controllers, practice your best Venom growl, and prepare for an episode that's guaranteed to be more entertaining than watching Eddie Brock try to explain his sudden career change from journalism to alien symbiote hosting! Learn such things as: Can you make a game that really fits in with the continuity of the comics AND have it stay that way? Will we sucker any artists into making Venomized versions of The Muppets? What kind of good butt battle would ensue between Venom and Captain America? And so much more! The Superhero Show #600The Spider Wars Begin With Spider-Carnage's RiseThe Superhero Show Show: Spider Wars Begins With Spider-Carnage's RiseJoin the hosts of The Superhero Show Show as they dive headfirst into Spider Wars, the thrilling final arc of Spider-Man: The Animated Series. This week, they break down episode 5.12, Spider Wars, Chapter 1: I Really, Really Hate Clones. Here, the multiverse starts to unravel, and Spider-Carnage takes center stage as one of Spider-Man's most terrifying foes.Spider-Carnage Emerges in Spider WarsTo begin, the panel explores how the episode immediately escalates the stakes. A sinister fusion of Spider-Man's clone and Carnage, Spider-Carnage threatens to destroy all of reality. As Spider-Man uncovers a web of alternate versions of himself, the hosts explain how the show skillfully balances high-concept storytelling with Peter Parker's emotional turmoil over identity and betrayal. Moreover, with the multiverse in danger, Madame Web steps in to guide Spider-Man through the chaos. Consequently, he must ally with unexpected counterparts, even when trust is difficult. The discussion emphasizes how the episode sets up an epic confrontation, establishing Spider-Carnage as both a physical and psychological threat.A Multiverse of Spider-MenNext, the hosts have a blast discussing the debut of multiple Spider-Men, ranging from armored Spidey to powerless Peter Parker. Furthermore, each variant brings unique quirks to the team. The panel praises how the episode gives every version a distinct personality, while still reinforcing Spider-Man's core theme of responsibility. In addition, they highlight the fun interplay between these heroes as they reluctantly come together under Madame Web's guidance.Building Toward the Spider Wars FinaleAs the tension continues to rise, the group reflects on how Spider Wars pushes the scale higher than anything the series has done before. Not only did the Red Skull, Kingpin, and other classic villains once threaten New York, but now Spider-Carnage threatens all of existence. Therefore, the hosts commend the episode's tight pacing, sharp writing, and willingness to push Peter Parker into uncharted emotional territory.Final Thoughts: Spider Wars Begins With a BangIn conclusion, the hosts agree that Spider Wars, Chapter 1: I Really, Really Hate Clones is an electrifying start to this final arc. With its bold multiverse concept, compelling Spider-Man variants, and the chilling menace of Spider-Carnage, this chapter successfully sets the stage for an unforgettable Spider Wars finale.
