My special guest tonight is a living LEGEND!!! Some of you know him as "Coach". Some of you know him as "J.J." Corbett. I endearingly refer to him as "Mr. Corbett. "At 99 years of age, Mr. Corbett is still "sharp"!!!! He just received a proclamation at the Polk County School Board's last meeting. The media center at Union Academy IB Middle School will be named in his honor!!!! Imagine being a math teacher/track coach, at a once segregated school, to now have a building named in your honor. Union Academy was a rich place of learning for African American scholars during the days of segregation, so this honor is very befitting!!! Mr. Corbett served our country in WWII, as a member of the 555th Battalion, "The Triple Nickles." They were the first African American paratroopers. He is also accomplished as an award winning track and football coach, leading his teams to back to back state championship titles. Listen, as he takes us on a journey that spans his almost, 100 years of life!!!
