Greetings and welcome to Reviews That Burn: Series Reviews, part of Books That Burn. Series Reviews discuss at least three books in a series and cover the overarching themes and development of the story across several books. I'd like to thank longtime Patron Case Aiken, who receives a monthly shoutout. This episode discusses The Kingston Cycle by C. L. Polk. Full Text Here In an original world reminiscent of Edwardian England in the shadow of a World War, cabals of noble families use their unique magical gifts to control the fates of nations, while one young man seeks only to live a life of his own. Magic marked Miles Singer for suffering the day he was born, doomed either to be enslaved to his family's interest or to be committed to a witches' asylum. He went to war to escape his destiny and came home a different man, but he couldn't leave his past behind. The war between Aeland and Laneer leaves men changed, strangers to their friends and family, but even after faking his own death and reinventing himself as a doctor at a cash-strapped veterans' hospital, Miles can't hide what he truly is. When a fatally poisoned patient exposes Miles' healing gift and his witchmark, he must put his anonymity and freedom at risk to investigate his patient's murder. To find the truth he'll need to rely on the family he despises, and on the kindness of the most gorgeous man he's ever seen. Na finał siódmego sezonu podcastu „Jak ona to robi” proponuję odcinek specjalny w zupełnie innej formule – Jak ona to robiła – dedykowany zmarłej nagle 15 kwietnia 2025 roku, w wieku 74 lat, wspaniałej aktorce Jadwidze Jankowskiej-Cieślak. W teatrze pracowała m.in. z Jerzym Jarockim, Jerzym Grzegorzewskim, Krystianem Lupą czy Agnieszka Glińską. Ostatnią rolę zagrała w nagradzanym przedstawieniu „Elizabeth Costello” Krzysztofa Warlikowskiego w Nowym Teatrze w Warszawie (w tytułową postać wcielała się wraz z pięcioma innymi osobami aktorskimi). Tę jedyną w swoim rodzaju artystkę wspominają jej współpracowniczki – aktorki: Maja Komorowska, Julia Kijowska, Małgorzata Kożuchowska, Agnieszka Wosińska, Joanna Szczepkowska, Małgorzata Niemirska, reżyserka Agnieszka Glińska, wieloletnia suflerka Magda Jaracz i inspicjentka Karolina Zbrożek.Nagranie odbyło się w Teatrze Dramatycznym w Warszawie w dniu pogrzebu aktorki w ramach cyklu spotkań o kobietach sceny pt. „Halina i jej siostry”, którego jestem kuratorką i prowadzącą, a patronuje mu magazyn „Vogue Polska”.Podcastu „Jak ona to robi” możesz posłuchać na platformach Spotify, Apple Podcasts oraz YouTube.

It's hard to believe, but school is back in session. If you're a parent, that means you're already dealing with that early morning dash to school and also coping with the chaos in the car line. On Florida Matters we got a peek inside the backpack as another school year is underway in Hillsborough, Pinellas and Polk counties. School administrators are breathing a sigh of relief as millions of dollars in frozen federal grant money have been released. But there's still uncertainty. We spoke with Hillsborough County Public Schools' Deputy Superintendent for Academics and Transformation, Shay McRae, who discussed coping with uncertainty and finding enough bus drivers and teachers. We also got some overall context about vacancies and the school districts from Tampa Bay Times education reporter Jeff Solochek. And finally, we were joined by Shanta Teller-Montes, who is a math teacher in Lutz.

In this heartfelt sermon, Pastor Ken Polk, father of Pastor Jason Polk, shares a moving message at Echo Church centered on the healing of the woman with the issue of blood from Mark 5. Ken reflects on the themes of faith, persistence, and the courage to reach out to Jesus even in the midst of a crowd. Drawing on personal anecdotes, biblical teaching, and reflections on the nature of crowds and faith, he emphasizes how Jesus responds not just to casual contact but to sincere, faith-filled hearts. Ken encourages listeners to consider their own condition—whether physical, spiritual, or emotional—and challenges them to press through life's obstacles to make a personal connection with Christ. He reminds us that Jesus sees and responds to those who reach out in faith, offering healing, peace, and transformation. The message culminates in a call to honest confession, public faith, and the assurance that only Jesus can truly satisfy the deepest needs of our souls. No matter how overlooked or hopeless we feel, Jesus notices a heart of real faith. Step out of the crowd, reach for Him, and He will respond.

Pełnej wersji podcastu posłuchasz w aplikacji Onet Audio. W najnowszym odcinku podcastu Raport Międzynarodowy prowadzący Witold Jurasz i Zbigniew Parafianowicz omawiają coraz gorsze relacje pomiędzy Azerbejdżanem i Rosją.
Tyler Polk, Partner & Senior Consultant at Fiducient Advisors, joins the podcast to explore the financial pressures facing physicians today. The prevailing theme of polarization within fandoms is vividly illustrated in our discourse on the perennial conflict between elves and dwarves. As I engage with esteemed Tolkien scholar and former host of our show, Nick Polk, we delve into the intricate nuances of this rivalry, which transcends mere animosity and reveals deeper societal reflections. Throughout our exploration, we uncover the historical context that underscores the dynamics between these two races, illuminating how their contrasting attributes embody broader themes of identity and collaboration. In a world rife with division, our dialogue seeks to extract the virtues inherent in both factions, emphasizing the potential for understanding and unity amidst discord. Ultimately, we aspire to inspire our audience to find solace in the narratives of reconciliation that echo within the realms of fantasy and beyond. The discourse centers on the enduring rivalry between elves and dwarves within various fandoms, particularly as articulated in Tolkien's works. We delve into the historical context of this conflict, tracing its roots to Norse mythology and examining how these archetypes have evolved within contemporary narratives. The episode features an enlightening dialogue between Joshua Noel and esteemed Tolkien scholar Nick Polk, who provides a scholarly lens through which to view the dynamics between these two factions. The discussion highlights the misconceptions surrounding the dwarven character, often portrayed as brutish or greedy, juxtaposed with the ethereal and noble nature of elves. However, as the conversation unfolds, we uncover the deeper complexities of both races, revealing that dwarves, while often viewed as the 'stunted people,' possess a rich cultural heritage and a commendable resilience against corruption. This resilience is poignantly illustrated through their interactions with the One Ring, where they remain largely unaffected by its malevolent influence, thereby showcasing a strength of character that is often overlooked. Ultimately, the episode serves as a reminder that the binaries of good and evil within fantasy narratives are rarely absolute, inviting listeners to reflect on the nuances of both elven and dwarven cultures and their respective contributions to the overarching narrative of Middle-earth.The episode embarks on an exploration of the dichotomy between elves and dwarves, emblematic of a broader theme of polarization within fandoms. Through a nuanced discussion led by Joshua Noel and Nick Polk, we investigate the historical and literary foundations of this rivalry, particularly as portrayed in Tolkien's legendarium. The conversation reveals that the elves, often celebrated for their grace and wisdom, are not without their faults, just as the dwarves, frequently depicted as greedy and reclusive, possess admirable qualities of resilience and craftsmanship.
