Hasan Hani Abu Halemeh is a predator caught in a Polk County, Florida investigation of Takedown with Chris Hansen. He is notable for having large amounts of child pornography on his phone when arrested. At the time of the sting, Halemeh had been living in Brandon, Florida. He is an immigrant from Jordan, but is currently a United States citizen and had been living in Florida for ten years. His wife still lived in Jordan at the time of the sting and intended to join him in the United States at a future time. He worked as a supervisor at his company, helping his employees better communicate with customers. Halemeh has cancer, but was doing well in his treatment at the time. Because Halemeh was reluctant to enter the hotel room where the sting was set up, instead choosing to ask the girl to come to his car, deputies arrested him in the parking lot. While being led into the hotel room, Halemeh claimed that he "wasn't trying to do anything." When questioned by Chris, Halemeh said that he came to the hotel to "discover if what was happening was true or not." Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Timothy Lee Wellman is a predator caught in a Polk County, Florida investigation of Takedown with Chris Hansen. Wellman had been communicating with a decoy posing as a fourteen-year-old girl. Immediately after learning of her age, Wellman asked for pictures of her. He told he decoy that as long as she was "cool" and he wasn't in danger from law enforcement, he was fine with her age. When the decoy told him that she was not a virgin, Wellman said, "Guess nobody has ever ate you up and wore you out. I can eat pussy for days." Timothy Wellman drove around the block several times before deputies apprehended him at his vehicle. He was led into the sting house in handcuffs, greeted by Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd saying, "Welcome to Polk County." During the drive to the sting house, Wellman had been on the phone with his two young children because he "wanted them to tell [him] good night." In the interview with Chris Hansen, Wellman said that he was looking for "conversation, mainly." He stated that he wanted to take the decoy out to eat, but Chris responded, "Sounds like you came over here to eat something different." Chis asked him what he meant when he said in the chat that he wanted to "eat [the decoy's] a**." Wellman clarified that he did not intend on having oral sex with the girl, only "eat all over" the decoy. Chris said that would be oral sex, to which Wellman agreed but said that wasn't his intention. He never fully explained what he meant. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

So Everman decided it would be best if he just went ahead and murdered him. “I would rather the news get home that I had killed a man for trying to injure my character, than for news to go home that I had stolen a watch,” he wrote later. In this episode of ITR Live, Chris Hagenow and John Hendrickson break down the latest state revenue estimate and how it will shape Iowa's budget and tax policy for the coming year. The hosts explain how the March Revenue Estimate (REC) showed a slight decrease in projected revenue due to the phased-in impact of Iowa's flat tax, but emphasize that this was expected and part of the long-term tax reduction strategy.Chris and John highlight Iowa's strong financial position despite the revenue drop. Iowa still maintains a $2 billion surplus for the current fiscal year, with fully funded reserve accounts and a $3.5 billion balance in the Taxpayer Relief Fund. The hosts stress that this strategic approach allows Iowa to fund tax cuts without jeopardizing essential services. The conversation shifts to the property tax bill introduced by Senator Dan Dawson and Representative Bobby Kaufmann. The bill includes a 2% revenue cap on city and county governments, makes adjustments to school funding, and replaces the current rollback system. Chris and John explain how these reforms aim to reduce the property tax burden while controlling local government spending. They also discuss Governor Reynolds' directive requiring state agencies to justify any new hires, reinforcing her commitment to government efficiency. The hosts compare this approach to the challenges of local government spending, particularly in Polk County, which has increased staff levels by 9% over the last four years.Wrapping up, Chris and John stress that Iowa's conservative leadership is executing a long-term plan to reduce taxes and control spending—offering sustainable solutions rather than short-term fixes.

WPA writer Sara B. Wrenn's oral history interview with Portland attorney A.L. Veazie, who grew up in Polk County in the late 1800s, recalling what life was like with the Chinese laborers who were working on railroads and other worksites. Not all his recollections are flattering, but they're not super surprising given that the Chinese were nearly all young, socially ostracized peasant men in a foreign land.
