In this episode of the Specialty Matcha Podcast, hosts Ryan and Zongjun (Sam) talk with with Dr. Rebecca Corbett, a historian specializing the history and practice of Japanese tea culture (chanoyu), and early modern Japanese women's history. Dr. Corbett shares her personal journey into the world of tea and discusses the complexities of gender roles within tea practices. The conversation also touches on the influence of the Urasenke school, the secretive nature of knowledge transmission in Chanoyu, and the institutionalized sexism present in Japanese society. Dr. Corbett's book, Cultivating Femininity: Women and Tea Culture in Edo and Meiji Japan, sheds light on the women who were written out of tea history and disproves orthodox narratives perpetuated by the largest and most powerful schools of tea ceremony in the world. https://libraries.usc.edu/person/rebecca-corbetthttps://theconversation.com/green-gruel-pea-soup-what-westerners-thought-of-matcha-when-they-tried-it-for-the-first-time-263014?utm_medium=article_clipboard_share&utm_source=theconversation.comhttps://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/30216https://globaltea.ucdavis.edu/

True Crime Tuesday presents The Monsters We Make: Murder, Obsession, and the Rise of Criminal Profiling with Writer/Columnist/Author, Rachel Corbett! Criminal profiling―the delicate art of collecting and deciphering the psychological “fingerprints” of the monsters among us―holds an almost mythological status in pop culture. But what exactly is it, does it work, and why is the American public so entranced by it? What do we gain, and endanger, from studying why people commit murder? In The Monsters We Make, author Rachel Corbett explores how criminal profiling became one of society's most seductive and quixotic undertakings through five significant moments in its history. Corbett follows Arthur Conan Doyle through the London alleyways where Jack the Ripper butchered his victims, depicts the tailgate outside of Ted Bundy's execution, and visits the remote Montana cabin where Ted Kaczynski assembled his antiestablishment bombs. Along the way emerge the people who studied and unraveled these cases. We meet self-taught psychologist Henry Murray, who profiled Adolf Hitler at the request of the U.S. government and later profiled his own students―including the future Unabomber―by subjecting them to cruel humiliation experiments. We also meet the prominent Yale psychiatrist Dorothy Lewis, who ended up testifying that Bundy was too sick to stand trial. Finally, Corbett takes the story into our own time, explaining the rise of modern “predictive policing” policies through a study of one Florida family that the analytics targeted―to devastating effects. With narrative intrigue and deft research, Corbett delves deep into the mythology and reality of criminal profilers, revealing how thin the line can be separating those who do harm and those who claim to stop it. On Today's True Crime Tuesday, we talk to Rachel about whether criminal profiling is a science or an educated guess! We also get into the cases in the book involving Ted Bundy, The Unabomber, Henry Murray, and then we talk extensively about Pasco County, Florida and their profiling program trying to prevent criminals from developing a career before they even get started ala Minority Report! Adenomyosis is a condition in which the uterine lining grows into the muscular wall of the uterus, often causing heavy menstrual bleeding, severe cramping, and chronic pelvic pain. It is estimated to affect 25–60% of women worldwide. Despite its prevalence, treatment options in North America remain extremely limited. Many patients are forced to choose between long-term opioid pain management or a hysterectomy, options that can significantly impact quality of life. In this episode of Curing with Sound, we speak with Dr. Vanda Corbett, a healthcare practitioner who endured decades of debilitating adenomyosis-related pain before discovering focused ultrasound. She first learned about this noninvasive treatment after listening to an episode of the Not Your Mother's Menopause podcast featuring Suzanne LeBlang, MD, the Foundation's Director of Clinical Relationships. Determined to find an alternative to surgery or opioids, Dr. Corbett made the life-changing decision to travel from Dubai to Chongqing Haifu Hospital in China for a focused ultrasound procedure. Her transformative experience has motivated her to share her story, so more women can learn about this revolutionary noninvasive treatment option. Discussion highlights: Medical Travel Experience: Follow Dr. Corbett's journey from Dubai to Chongqing, including the preparation process, travel logistics, and the patient-centered care she received at a specialized focused ultrasound hospital. Immediate Treatment Results and Advocacy Mission: Discover how Dr. Corbett experienced complete pain relief within hours of her procedure, shifting from decades of debilitating symptoms to a return to normal daily life. Learn about her mission to raise awareness of adenomyosis and the potential of focused ultrasound through storytelling and social media. Watch Dr. Corbett's documentary videos tracking her journey with Adenomyosis and her focused ultrasound treatment. In this powerful and personal episode of the Not Your Mother's Menopause Podcast, Dr. Fiona Lovely is joined by her longtime friend, Dr. Vanda Corbett, to pull back the curtain on one of women's health's most devastating secrets: adenomyosis. Often called the "evil twin" of endometriosis, this condition affects a staggering 25-60% of women, yet remains shrouded in misinformation and diagnostic neglect. Dr. Corbett, a wellness professional with a doctorate in chiropractic and a master's in positive psychology, shares her own harrowing journey with adenomyosis, detailing the severe pain and debilitating heavy bleeding that were normalized and dismissed by multiple medical professionals. She recounts being presented with only two bleak options: a lifetime of powerful opioids or a hysterectomy. This candid conversation then takes a turn toward profound hope as Dr. Corbett reveals how a connection made through this very podcast led her to a life-changing, non-invasive treatment halfway across the world. She provides a fascinating education on High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU), explaining how this precise technology ablates the problematic tissue without a single incision, offering a uterus-preserving solution that eliminated her chronic pain. This episode is a crucial call to action for any woman who has been told her suffering is normal, arming listeners with the knowledge to advocate for better care and explore revolutionary treatments that exist beyond the standard Western medical playbook. If you or someone you love has ever been told that severe period pain is "just normal," this episode of the Not Your Mother's Menopause Podcast is essential listening. My guest, Dr. Vanda Corbett, shares her powerful fight against adenomyosis and the groundbreaking treatment that gave her her life back—without surgery.

Jimmy Dore and Reportage author James Corbett discuss a recent conversation on CNBC where the panel discussed the problem of wealth inequality in the United States, and suggest that a civil war between the haves and the have nots may be looming. Corbett argues that the ruling oligarchs deliberately promote cultural and partisan conflicts to prevent a unified populist movement against systemic corruption and corporate dominance. Both conclude that true change requires unity across political lines and awareness of how mainstream media maintains public division to protect elite interests. Plus segments on a U.S. ambassador slipping up and revealing our REAL objectives in Venezuela and Bill Gates' recent EPIC flip-flop on climate change. Also featuring Kurt Metzger, Mike MacRae and Stef Zamorano. Plus a phone call from Kash Patel!

The two New Testament epistles ascribed to the Apostle Peter are lesser known by most Christians than the Epistles of the Apostle Paul. Some scholars believe that First Peter may have been written to young Christians and may have even served as a 'catechism' for those about to be water baptised. In this episode, we look at how Peter presents God as Father, Son, and Spirit, and how Christianity commences with becoming 'born again'. But this is not where Christianity ends - and that aged Apostle Peter gives instructions on how a new believer is to grow in the faith by exploring what the knowledge of God and HIs grace requires. In this episode Dr. Corbett discusses what the Apostle Peter, the only married person of the original 12 disciples, had to say about how Christ and then Christianity has redically reinstituted what marriage was always meant to be.

Criminal profiling—the delicate art of collecting and deciphering the psychological “fingerprints” of the monsters among us—holds an almost mythological status in pop culture. But what exactly is it, does it work, and why is the American public so entranced by it? What do we gain, and endanger, from studying why people commit murder? In The Monsters We Make, author Rachel Corbett explores how criminal profiling became one of society's most seductive and quixotic undertakings through five significant moments in its historCorbett follows Arthur Conan Doyle through the London alleyways where Jack the Ripper butchered his victims, depicts the tailgate outside of Ted Bundy's execution, and visits the remote Montana cabin where Ted Kaczynski assembled his antiestablishment bombs. Along the way emerge the people who studied and unraveled these cases. We meet self-taught psychologist Henry Murray, who profiled Adolf Hitler at the request of the U.S. government and later profiled his own students—including the future Unabomber—by subjecting them to cruel humiliation experiments. We also meet the prominent Yale psychiatrist Dorothy Lewis, who ended up testifying that Bundy was too sick to stand trial. Finally, Corbett takes the story into our own time, explaining the rise of modern “predictive policing” policies through a study of one Florida family that the analytics targeted—to devastating effects. With narrative intrigue and deft research, Corbett delves deep into the mythology and reality of criminal profilers, revealing how thin the line can be separating those who do harm and those who claim to stop it.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/houseofmysteryradio. The Carolina Panthers reached a critical inflection point this week, securing a 3-3 record after a thrilling 30-27 victory over the Dallas Cowboys. Head Coach Dave Canales addressed the media on Monday, October 13, tackling the biggest personnel and cultural questions facing the suddenly competitive team. RUNNING BACK CONTROVERSY: The major topic was the running back position, where Rico Dowdle's franchise-record 473 scrimmage yards in the last two weeks have created a dilemma with the anticipated return of veteran starter Chuba Hubbard (Calf). Canales remained intentionally non-committal on the starting role, calling it a "good problem to have," but confirmed Dowdle "will be a big part of what we're doing" moving forward. COACHING CULTURE: Canales doubled down on his philosophical leadership approach by declaring himself the "common denominator" in the team's overall execution, committing to internal evaluation and ensuring the coaching staff prepares the players for success . He also praised Bryce Young's "consistency" and ability to maintain composure and energy after making mistakes. INJURY AND ROSTER UPDATES: Canales provided key updates on returning players:The 21-day practice window will open this week for veteran offensive lineman Austin Corbett, who needs to prove he "can handle the physical load". Wide receiver Jalen Coker is "really close" to returning, with this week being critical for proving his physical readiness. The Panthers now look ahead to their Week 7 road contest against the New York Jets. Sources and related content
In this episode, we dive into the making of Wes Corbett's new album Drift. The inspirations behind the music, the collaborators who brought it to life, and insights into the recording process. We listen to a couple of my favorite tracks from the album! We chat about musical influences like Car Talk, Earl Scruggs, and Béla Fleck, and reflect on his upbringing on the West Coast. He shares the subtle complexities of performing with the Sam Bush Band and offers a thoughtful look at his approach to the banjo and composition. And of course, we settle the age-old debate: how do you pronounce “salmon”? (I have my own theories.) Plus, we test his knowledge on the life cycle of salmon—you might be surprised by what he knows. www.wescorbett.bandcamp.com www.wescorbett.com www.hilaryhawkemusic.com
