Jason Corbett was the widowed father of two young children when he began a relationship with his American au pair, Molly Martens. They moved from Ireland to North Carolina to start a new life. But it came to a violent end after Molly and her father killed Jason with a baseball bat and a brick, claiming self-defense. As authorities charged the pair with murder, the Corbett family said the attack was premeditated, accusing Molly of trying to obtain custody of Jason's kids. But when the Martens received a new trial, both sides said the true story of the marriage had yet to be revealed. The Netflix documentary film “A Deadly American Marriage” recounts the troubling 2015 case and its dueling narratives of who was the actual aggressor. It explores issues around domestic violence, unreliable testimony, and imperfect victims. It also focuses on Corbett's children, now teenagers living in Ireland, as they deal with their lingering trauma.OUR SPOILER-FREE REVIEWS OF "A DEADLY AMERICAN MARRIAGE" BEGIN IN THE FINAL 11 MINUTES OF THE EPISODE.In Crime of the Week: once, bitten. Timestamp to get straight to the case: (5:38) In 2008, Irish man Jason Corbett placed an ad for an au-pair to assist him in raising his two young children Sarah and Jack.  Jason's first wife Margaret had passed suddenly in 2006, leaving him widowed with two small children. American woman Molly Martens answered the ad.  She moved from her Tennessee home to Limerick, Ireland to live with the Corbett family.  Molly and Jason fell in love and decided to move back to America to get married and settle.   Their marriage soon soured - Jason was resistant to Molly adopting his children.  Molly would regularly make comments about Jason's weight. One night in August 2015, Molly's father Tom was staying with the family in the Corbett home.  He called 911 and reported that there had been an altercation at the home and he had acted in self-defense.   When authorities arrived, Jason was pronounced dead. In 2017, Molly and Tom ended up being convicted of Jason's murder. In 2023, they both took plea deals in the case and were resentenced.   They were freed from prison in 2024. This case is in the media again due to the new Netflix documentary titled ‘ A Deadly American Marriage.'   Read our blog on this case Be sure to join us on Patreon for exclusive weekly, ad-free content - patreon.com/truecrimesociety Follow us on Instagram for the latest crime news - Instagram.com/truecrimesociety This episode is sponsored by: IQBar - IQMIX is a zero-sugar drink mix from IQBAR that hydrates, boosts your mood and promotes mental clarity.  And right now, IQBAR is offering our special podcast listeners twenty percent off all IQBAR products, plus get FREE shipping. Christianity is grounded in the physical resurrection of Jesus Christ. There is now good evidence to believe that the folded grave cloths of the crucified Jesus of Nazareth, the shroud used to cover His body, and the face cloth to place over His face, have been preserved even to this day. In this presentation Dr. Corbett presents some of that evidence and why Christ's resurrection is relevant for each person.

In 2010, the Association for Information Systems formed a special interest group () to nurture an international community of academics that study the role of digital technologies in fostering environmentally, economically and socially sustainable development. Fifteen years later, we sit down with , the current SIGGreen president, to reflect on the progress we have made. What do we know about how digital technologies help greening our planet? What efforts in empirical, theoretical, and design work is still needed? Is our role to understand the role of digital technologies or do we need to push and enact change ourselves? We conclude that environmental questions and problems are now firmly on the radar screen of our discipline but more work needs to be done for information systems academics to transform the way we think about and use digital technologies.  Episode reading list Corbett, J., & Mellouli, S. (Piano music stops) Welcome to Ten Things I Like About… I'm Kiersten, your host, and this is a podcast about misunderstood or unknown creatures in nature. Some we'll find right out side our doors and some are continents away but all are fascinating.  This podcast will focus ten, ten minute episodes on different animals and their amazing characteristics. Please join me on this extraordinary journey, you won't regret it. This is the penultimate episode of Screamer and the ninth thing I like about this animal is their eyes and beaks. One of the things that is often overlooked in bird is their eye color, so today we will delve into the variations that exist by looking through the eye of the Screamer. Bird beaks, or bills either is correct, also vary extensively through out the avian family. Beak shape often indicates what type of food the birds eats, but like everything else about the Screamer, things are not always as they seem. Bird eye color varies more than anyone expected. Not many researchers have attempted studying this characteristic and the few that have taken up this research topic and finding more questions than answers. Colors ranged form dark black or brown to vivd emerald green, sapphire blue, scarlet and crimson, turquoise, and even white. There is even a bird with pink eyes. It is absolutely amazing the various hues that birds' eyes contain.  Irises can be one color or more than one. The eyes of Rock Pigeons, one of the most disliked birds around the world, are bicolored starting with a ring of yellow on the outside and red/orange close to the pupil. The Satin Bowerbird has eyes with a vibrant blue ring on the edge of eye with an equally vibrant ring of purple next to the pupil. The Three-streaked Tcharga has a ring of light spots that look like stars set in a dark background giving them some of the most unique bird eyes around.  Eye color in birds can change as a bird matures, for example Osprey eye color changes from red as juveniles to yellow as adults. Sexual dimorphism is also present in some species of birds meaning the female's eyes are a different color than the male's. Seasonal changes in eye color can also happen, for example Brown Pelican eyes change from brown to blue during breeding season. Southern Screamers and Northern Screamers both have brown eyes as adults, while Horned Screamers can have yellow to orange to red eyes as adults. To clarify, I found no research indicating that these birds eye color changes as they age, but I could only find reference to their adult eye color.  There are three things that contribute to the color of a bird's eye, pigments, blood vessels, and structures. These three color options are still being closely studied but certain pigments are responsible for light colors and different pigments are responsible for darker colors. For example, carotenoids are responsible for the orange color of birds in Family Anatidae which includes certain ducks. An increased amount of blood vessels in the eye creates the red eyes of some species.  Why do bird have such varied eye color? The short answer is we just don't know. It could be related to how they find food, where they nest, diurnal versus nocturnal behaviors, communication, or another reason we have not thought of yet. Much more research needs to be done to answer this question, but for now, we can marvel at the extreme variation of bird eye color.  Now, let's take a look at some bird beaks. Just like eye color bird beaks vary tremendously. They can be wide and flat like a duck, tweezer-like similar to a gnatcatcher, chisel-like as the raven's beak, long and thin like a hummingbirds, and deeply curved like the honeycreeper. These are only a few beak shapes found in the avian world. What a bird eats can impact the shape of its beak. Keeping this idea in mind, let's look at the Screamer's beak. Screamers eat leaves, stems, flowers, and roots of aquatic vegetation, so we might assume that their beaks would look at lot like their closer relatives ducks, geese, and swans who also eat similar items. Duck bills are flat and wide with some serration on the inside to help grasp aquatic grasses, but as we know Screamers have a hooked beak reminiscent of a raptor beak.   Hooked beaks help raptors tear apart their prey to facilitate swallowing. If the Screamer eats plant material why does it have a small hooked beak? It has to be hard work to get enough food using a smaller beak to pick up leaves, flowers, and plant roots. It is so much effort for a food item that is low in calories. Once again there is no easy answer to this question, but new study discovered that what a bird eats isn't the only determination of beak size and shape. Turns out we should be thinking about the birds beak in the same manner that we think of our hands. Beaks are not just for eating, they are for manipulating the environment.  Screamers may have hooked beaks to help them build nests, feed their young, or manipulate their environment in ways that we have yet to discover. Once again Screamers are pushing the boundaries of normal avian behaviors. Thank you for joining me for the ninth episode of Screamers. I hope you learned something new, I know I did and my ninth favorite thing about Screamers is their eyes and beaks. If you're enjoying this podcast please recommend me to friends and family and take a moment to give me a rating on whatever platform your listening. It will help me reach more listeners and give the animals I talk about an even better chance at change.  Join me next week for the final episode of Screamers.        (Piano Music plays)  This has been an episode of Ten Things I like About with Kiersten and Company. In this explosive episode of The Free Thought Project podcast, Jason, Matt, and Don sit down with returning guest James Corbett — independent journalist, researcher, and founder of The Corbett Report. Known globally for his meticulous investigations into 9/11, technocracy, and the rise of globalist power structures, James has been producing hard-hitting alternative media content since 2007. He's been a principled voice for truth when it was neither profitable nor popular — and he's back with us for the second time, following the release of his new book, Reportage: Essays on the New World Order. Together, we discuss the bizarre mainstream pivot toward 9/11 skepticism and how those once labeled “fringe” are suddenly finding their narratives validated — but without acknowledgement or accountability from the establishment that smeared them. James unpacks the psychology of gaslighting, the legacy media's shifting tactics, and why this moment matters for independent media. We also dive into the Trump administration's creeping technocratic police state, how legacy outlets like Mother Jones and shady ops like PropOrNot tried to silence voices like ours and James's, and what we can do to keep the truth from being weaponized all over again. This is a white-pill conversation for those who've spent years pushing back against official lies — and a warning for those tempted to let their guard down now that the liars are “letting us be right.” (Length: 55:40) You can follow, support, and study all Corbett's work at his website, https://www.corbettreport.com/  Find his new book here: https://reportagebook.com/

Plastic and paper waste from product packaging remains an environmental crisis, with millions of tons of packaging ending up in landfills and the ocean every year. Despite growing consumer demand for sustainable alternatives, many companies still struggle to balance eco-responsible packaging with cost, performance, and branding needs. Discover the challenges and opportunities shaping sustainable packaging alternatives with Elizabeth Corbett,  President of Enterprise Sales at AE Global, a leading packaging maker. Elizabeth helps brands in the cannabis, health & beauty, and consumer goods industries transition to packaging solutions that are both smarter and greener. With over 25 years of experience, she has developed growth strategies and designed sustainable packaging for some of the world's most iconic brands, including Estée Lauder, Starbucks' Teavana, and Tiffany & Co. Elizabeth argues that businesses don't have to choose between aesthetics, functionality, and environmental responsibility—they can have it all. She also works closely with the Ocean Recovery Group, a pioneering initiative dedicated to collecting, cleaning, and recycling ocean-bound plastics to turn waste into valuable materials in an increasingly closed loop that can eventually eliminate plastic pollution. We'll also discuss innovations in reusable, recyclable, and compostable packaging and how brands can achieve sustainability without sacrificing cost-effectiveness. Elizabeth suggests the best way to get sustainable packaging widely adopted is to establish rules that require post-consumer materials be used in new packaging. She points to New York's post-consumer recycled paper bag requirements that changed design decisions for brands across the country. New York, California, Florida, or Texas, four big markets from which no national brand can afford to be absent, could transform the national packaging scene. Join the conversation for a discussion about extended producer responsibility, America's fragmented, fractured recycling infrastructure, and the benefits brands can enjoy when they lead the way toward green packaging. The team has developed a Horizontal Cavity Surface Emitting Super Luminescent Diode (SLD) technology - the first of its kind globally. This revolutionary light source technology is designed to deliver superior image quality in compact, ultra low-power, lightweight AR devices, such as smart glasses, paving the way for seamless integration into everyday experiences. This innovation has the potential to impact the areas of education, medicine, environmental science, entertainment, and more. The team behind the spin-out company, including Brian Corbett, is part of IPIC, the Research Ireland Centre for Photonics, and has extensive experience in the industry. A prolific inventor and innovator, Corbett's research has fuelled several spin-out companies, including InfiniLED, which was subsequently bought by Meta in 2016. The company launched to a global audience at Photonics West in San Francisco last week. Chris Gorman, CEO of Vivid Photonics, said: "This is an exciting time to be involved in Photonics, and Ireland is at the forefront of this industry. Years of advanced research in Tyndall have produced breakthrough manufacturing processes that will revolutionise how we generate projected light for small, lightweight AR glasses. The image quality this will achieve is anticipated to be on par with real life." Professor Paul Townsend, Director of IPIC and Head of Photonics, Tyndall, said, "I am excited to see the commercialisation of this latest innovation from Brian Corbett's world-leading photonics research group. This is a fantastic example of how investment in cutting-edge photonics research through programmes such as IPIC can generate impact". Professor William Scanlon, CEO, Tyndall said: "Vivid Photonics' technology is set to redefine how the digital and physical worlds interact. This spin-out company is testament to Tyndall's research excellence in the field of Photonics and we look forward to seeing the profound impact this tech will have across many different applications." Dr Sally Cudmore, Director of UCC Innovation, said: "It is great to see many years of Tyndall and UCC research come to fruition through the creation of a photonics spin-out company. The UCC Innovation team supported the project from conception to spin-out, and I would like to congratulate the research team on their entrepreneurial journey. Vivid Photonics will continue to develop Tyndall's SLD technology into products that will generate economic and social impact."
