The Carolina Panthers reached a critical inflection point this week, securing a 3-3 record after a thrilling 30-27 victory over the Dallas Cowboys. Head Coach Dave Canales addressed the media on Monday, October 13, tackling the biggest personnel and cultural questions facing the suddenly competitive team.   RUNNING BACK CONTROVERSY: The major topic was the running back position, where Rico Dowdle's franchise-record 473 scrimmage yards in the last two weeks have created a dilemma with the anticipated return of veteran starter Chuba Hubbard (Calf). Canales remained intentionally non-committal on the starting role, calling it a "good problem to have," but confirmed Dowdle "will be a big part of what we're doing" moving forward.   COACHING CULTURE: Canales doubled down on his philosophical leadership approach by declaring himself the "common denominator" in the team's overall execution, committing to internal evaluation and ensuring the coaching staff prepares the players for success . Today, I will be speaking with Colleen Corbett. Any Irish person who has moved to Toronto is sure to have encountered the famous Colleen at some stage. She brings energy and enthusiasm to any conversation she is in and this is no exception. I am focusing on stories from the life of Jesus and challenging the kids with Jesus' call to radical discipleship. I recorded this first sermon while walking some of the trails at Trout Creek Bible Camp in Corbett, OR. Jason Corbett was the widowed father of two young children when he began a relationship with his American au pair, Molly Martens. They moved from Ireland to North Carolina to start a new life. But it came to a violent end after Molly and her father killed Jason with a baseball bat and a brick, claiming self-defense. As authorities charged the pair with murder, the Corbett family said the attack was premeditated, accusing Molly of trying to obtain custody of Jason's kids. But when the Martens received a new trial, both sides said the true story of the marriage had yet to be revealed. The Netflix documentary film “A Deadly American Marriage” recounts the troubling 2015 case and its dueling narratives of who was the actual aggressor. It explores issues around domestic violence, unreliable testimony, and imperfect victims. Timestamp to get straight to the case: (5:38) In 2008, Irish man Jason Corbett placed an ad for an au-pair to assist him in raising his two young children Sarah and Jack.  Jason's first wife Margaret had passed suddenly in 2006, leaving him widowed with two small children. American woman Molly Martens answered the ad.  She moved from her Tennessee home to Limerick, Ireland to live with the Corbett family.  Molly and Jason fell in love and decided to move back to America to get married and settle.   Their marriage soon soured - Jason was resistant to Molly adopting his children.  Molly would regularly make comments about Jason's weight. One night in August 2015, Molly's father Tom was staying with the family in the Corbett home.  He called 911 and reported that there had been an altercation at the home and he had acted in self-defense.   When authorities arrived, Jason was pronounced dead. In 2017, Molly and Tom ended up being convicted of Jason's murder. In 2023, they both took plea deals in the case and were resentenced.   They were freed from prison in 2024.
