In an era where the average job tenure in the U.S. hovers under four years and industries are evolving faster than academic curricula can keep up, the need for a new approach to workforce development has never been more urgent. Companies like Amazon and McDonald's are responding by investing in “education as a benefit” programs, but the bigger challenge lies in designing learning experiences that are agile, job-relevant, and deeply integrated with workplace needs. So how do we prepare people for jobs that don't even exist yet—and how do employers and educators collaborate to build the future-ready workforce we need?Welcome to DisruptED. In the second episode of this two-part series, host Ron J. Stefanski dives deep into these questions with two powerhouse guests: Michael Horn, a leading author on education and business, and Jason Aubrey, the CEO of Skilltrade. Together, they explore the shifting dynamics between workers, employers, and educators—and why traditional workforce pipelines are falling short.Highlights from the conversation:The evolving definition of a “job”: Workers are no longer just being hired—they're hiring the job to serve their goals, and job descriptions are increasingly becoming co-created and personalized.Education as a recruitment and retention strategy: Companies like Amazon and Starbucks are leveraging education benefits to improve employee tenure and upskill workers for more complex roles. The rise of tightly coupled partnerships: Employers and educators must work hand-in-hand to build programs that align with real-time labor market needs, moving away from the outdated, arms-length models of the past.Michael Horn is a renowned education strategist and thought leader known for pioneering work in disruptive innovation and workforce development. He is the co-founder of the Clayton Christensen Institute and author of several influential books, including the bestseller Job Moves: 9 Steps for Making Progress in Your Career, and serves as an advisor and board member for numerous education and training organizations. With degrees from Yale and Harvard Business School, Horn also teaches at the Harvard Graduate School of Education and co-hosts top education podcasts, making him a central voice in rethinking the future of learning and career pathways.Jason Aubrey is a seasoned EdTech and workforce development executive with a proven track record of scaling mission-driven organizations and leading successful exits, including MedCerts' acquisition by Stride, Inc. He is currently the Founder and CEO of Skilltrade, and has previously served as CEO of ClearGage and co-founded LectureTools, an active learning platform used by hundreds of universities globally. Aubrey brings deep experience in organizational transformation, education technology, and public-private workforce partnerships, and holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan.

Workforce training is undergoing a radical transformation as industries face critical talent shortages and rapid technological change. Building a future-ready workforce requires rethinking traditional higher education models. These models emphasize broad academic development over targeted skill-building and struggle to keep pace with employer demands. According to the World Economic Forum's Future of Jobs Report 2025, roughly 59 out of every 100 workers will require reskilling or upskilling to meet evolving job demands. This shift has pushed innovative training models and community-based approaches to the forefront of workforce development. What will it take to create a workforce that is agile, future-ready, and aligned with the needs of employers in fast-changing industries? How can new models of education and skills training bridge the growing gap between job seekers and the roles that remain unfilled? In this episode of DisruptED, host Ron Stefanski speaks with Jason Aubrey, Founder and CEO at SkillTrade, and Michael Horn, a leading voice on disruptive innovation in education. Together, they explore how education and workforce training must evolve, the role of community-based initiatives, and the partnerships required to meet urgent labor demands.Key Points from the Episode:Outdated Pathways - Traditional higher education pathways are failing to produce job-ready graduates, particularly in healthcare and other high-demand sectors.Community Partnership- Employer-aligned, community-driven training programs are delivering faster and more effective results for both learners and organizations.Innovative Solutions – Apprenticeships, online active learning, and loan repayment partnerships are reshaping workforce pipelines and improving career readiness, creating a sustainable path toward a future-ready workforce.Jason Aubrey is a workforce development and EdTech leader with extensive experience scaling tech-enabled businesses and driving organizational innovation. As CEO of MedCerts, he led the company to its acquisition by Stride, Inc., expanding its impact in healthcare and IT certification training. He is now the founder and CEO of SkillTrade, building community-driven, employer-aligned training programs to address critical workforce gaps, particularly in healthcare.Michael Horn is a leading expert on disruptive innovation in education, known for shaping future-focused learning strategies and workforce development. He co-founded the Clayton Christensen Institute, teaches at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, and advises organizations like Guild Education and Minerva University. Horn is also a bestselling author of several influential books, including Job Moves: 9 Steps for Making Progress in Your Career and Disrupting Class: How Disruptive Innovation Will Change the Way the World Learns, and is a sought-after speaker and podcast cohost.

In this episode of The Horn, Alan is joined by analyst and researcher Sarra Majdoub to take a closer look at Sudan's paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and their evolving military and political objectives. They discuss the RSF's recent loss of control in Khartoum to the Sudanese Armed Forces, and the group's strategic pivot toward consolidating power in Darfur and the Kordofan regions even as those areas suffer from a deepening humanitarian crisis. They unpack the RSF's emerging new political strategy, including their recent alliance with the Sudan People's Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) and efforts to establish a parallel government with allied armed groups. They also discuss the RSF's new long-range drone capabilities and why the group decided to escalate the conflict by launching strikes into eastern Sudan, including on Port Sudan. Finally, they explore whether the RSF is preparing for a lengthy war and protracted stalemate, if the group is positioning for a negotiated settlement to the war, or both. This week on The New Arab Voice podcast we look at the state of the war in Sudan. It's been declared the worst humanitarian crisis in the world, with hunger, disease and displacement rife. Yet the fighting surges on with reports of atrocities in the Kordofan region that left hundreds of civilians dead last weekend, the UN reported. The two rival militaries, the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces, are showing no sign of slowing down - and they have a few external forces to thank. So why is the UAE accused of involvement in the war? Who else is fighting for a piece of Sudan's mineral rich pie? And might the crisis be next on the list for the “peacemaking” Trump administration in Washington? To discuss all this and more, we speak to Hamid Khafallah (@HamidMurtada) Sudanese Researcher and Policy Analyst at the University of Manchester (@OfficialUoM), Hala Alkarib (@Halayalkarib) Sudanese activist and Regional Director of Strategic Initiative for Women in the Horn of Africa, and Khalid Omer Yousif (@KHOYousif) Vice Chairman of Sudanese Congress Party and former minister of cabinet affairs in the transitional government. For Episode 196 we have J.T. Horn, J.T, is the Trail Director for the Trust for Public Land. J.T. was also one of two guests on episode 192 where we discussed the Economic Impact that Mountain Biking can have on communities. For this episode we are discussing various ways to bridge the gap between Land Conservation organizations and the Trail Community. This topic can be a rather important topic because land access for trails is often one of the most challenging hurdles for trail development. As J.T. describes during this conversation, partnering with a Land Conservation Organization that understands the value of trails and outdoor recreation can be a critical step in the trail development process. I always really enjoy perspective that J.T. brings during our conversations and I hope you do as well! Topics Include: The J.T. On this episode of the Panoramic Outdoors Podcast, Sheldon sits down with longtime friend and frequent guest Josh McFaddin for a reflective, open-ended conversation that blends adventure, mindset, and deep appreciation for the outdoor lifestyle. What starts as a chat about spring bear hunting naturally evolves into something much broader: a meditation on why we hunt, what it means to slow down in nature, and how even the smallest details- a sunrise, a coffee over fire, the crackle of a wood stove in deer camp- can shape our relationship with the wild. Josh shares his most recent experiences in the bear woods, talking through the physical and mental challenges of spring bear season, ethical decision-making in the field, and the satisfaction that comes not just from success, but from participation. From there, the conversation takes a more reflective turn, diving into the philosophy of being outside- how presence, awareness, and gratitude play as big a role as any tool in your pack. It's about stepping away from distractions, tuning into the moment, and recognizing that sometimes the best days are the ones where you don't fill a tag but come back with a full heart. The episode also touches on deer camp culture- those timeless rituals, inside jokes, shared meals, and worn-down trail systems that feel like home. Whether you're talking about old bucks, busted gear, or late-night laughs, deer camp becomes more than just a place- it's a symbol of connection, tradition, and the stories we carry forward. This is the kind of episode that reminds you why you fell in love with the outdoors in the first place. Whether you're in the middle of a season or counting the days until the next one, it offers a timely reminder to stay grounded, appreciate the small things, and enjoy the ride. AABP Executive Director Dr. Fred Gingrich is joined by Dr. A.J. Tarpoff, Beef Cattle Extension Veterinarian, Kansas State University, to discuss what you need to know about flies to help your clients with treatment and control programs. This episode of Have You Herd? is sponsored by Boehringer Ingelheim and the Choose360Coverage mastitis portfolio. Bacteria can strike udders from any angle. The dairy health portfolio that rises to the challenge is Mastitis 360 by Boehringer Ingelheim. It offers powerful solutions for lactation through dry-off. Manage udder health with the ultimate to tools at your disposal. Find out more information by visiting the Choose360coverage.com today. Diagnosis of the type of fly is an important first step in managing treatment and control programs. The three main flies affecting cattle are horn flies, face flies and stable flies. Horn flies spend the majority of their life on the animal, typically along the withers, are blood feeders, and lay eggs in fresh manure. Face flies feed on eye secretions, damage the cornea, are not found in the hot southern regions of the U.S., and lay eggs in fresh manure. They do not spend most of their time on the animal. Stable flies are biting flies and a nuisance pest that lays eggs in decaying organic matter such as spoiled feed. Tarpoff walks through the basic treatment and control methods for flies which include insecticidal ear tags, pour-ons or sprays, dusters/oilers, and feed through products that are insect growth regulators. We discuss best management practices to improve effectiveness of these products as well as mitigating resistance to ensure efficacy. It is also important for veterinarians and producers to be aware of the threat of New World Screwworm which is a fly that is threatening introduction into the U.S. If you suspect a case, Tarpoff recommends immediately contacting your state animal health official and to collect the larvae for identification. AABP will host a webinar on August 14 on New World Screwworm and members can access upcoming webinar information on this page. The Have You Herd? episode on New World Screwworm can be found here. You can also access New World Screwworm resources on this page of the AABP website.

Maynard Ferguson's Hot Trumpet We now get to feature the second of two albums my dad had of MY favorite trumpet player. In fact, I haven't seen a rock band more times than I've seen Maynard Ferguson and his big band. This musician was known for his energetic charts, youthful big band members, soaring high notes, and most importantly his music education at the high school level. So, let's crank this up to a double high C and give Maynard the blazing, brass-heavy tribute he deserves in Volume 238: Maynard's Horn. For more information about this album, see the Discogs webpage for it. Send us a textWarning signals flash while America looks away. Lieutenant General Daniel Bolger—who previously admitted our defeats in Iraq and Afghanistan—now cautions that drone strikes across the Horn of Africa are quietly pulling us into another protracted conflict. Yet this crucial warning receives barely a whisper of attention as media cycles fixate on culture wars and celebrity feuds. This pattern is deliberate. We escalate military involvement just enough to keep operations off evening broadcasts, creating conflicts by contract rather than declaration. When body bags eventually come home, civilians wonder how we got there. As a veteran myself, I've witnessed firsthand the devastating moral injuries inflicted when troops are deployed into ambiguous conflicts without clear purpose or ethical grounding—a key factor in the epidemic of veteran suicide that plagues our military community.Meanwhile, the digital realm presents its own subtle dangers as Elon Musk's Grok 3.0 begins censoring content under the guise of "platform integrity." The same figure who championed free speech absolutism now programs algorithms that shape what information reaches your consciousness. This represents something far more insidious than simple content moderation—it's a battle for your imagination and capacity for independent thought. The Texas voting restrictions targeting "Souls to the Polls" initiatives reveal how power structures feel threatened by faith communities that translate their convictions into civic engagement. When Black churches organize voting after Sunday services, they embody the perfect fusion of community, faith, and democratic participation—precisely what makes certain interests uncomfortable. Biblical faith has always challenged unjust systems, which explains why authentic religious expression that manifests in justice work inevitably faces resistance. These seemingly disparate issues—military escalation, algorithmic censorship, and voter suppression—share a common thread: the quiet erosion of democratic agency and moral clarity. Yet despite these challenges, you're not powerless. True resistance comes through discernment rather than outrage, through principled action rather than reactive posting. The world needs more people grounded in truth and courageous enough to believe that integrity matters, even when it doesn't trend. What warning signs are we missing while algorithms feed us outrage? Listen to this episode to understand the connections between endless war, technological control, and the suppression of faith-based civic action. Support the show

In the late afternoon of July 12, 1988 the neighborhood search for four year old Barbara Jean Horn would end abruptly after the girl's body was discovered completely washed and nude in a television box just over a quarter of a mile from her home. The hunt for the man that committed the horrific crime and the subsequent trials that would follow would expose other wrong doings and injustices in the city of Philadelphia.
