The Daily Mail's Richard Eden reports on “Project Thaw,” a supposed effort to soften the Sussex freeze, with Harry's security review framed as part of a wider plan that could include UK schooling for the children—prompting a pointed response from royal insider Deep Crown about the logistics and emotional reality. New claims also swirl about tension between Queen Camilla and Catherine over whether Harry deserves any path back, while separate reporting suggests Kate's friendship with Sarah Ferguson is being watched closely amid worries about leaks. Overseas, Sweden's Royal Court confirms Princess Sofia was introduced to Jeffrey Epstein around 2005, stressing she declined a Caribbean invitation and has had no contact for 20 years. We also spot a small but loaded detail at Clarence House: family photos on display include images tied to Harry and Meghan's wedding and Louis's christening. And in a new ITV documentary, King Charles speaks candidly about climate, legacy, and the world his grandchildren will inherit—Steve Backshall's Royal Arctic Challenge airs on ITV1 at 9pm.Hear our new show "Crown and Controversy: Prince Andrew" here.Check out "Palace Intrigue Presents: King WIlliam" here.

Princess Sofia's newly exposed ties to Jeffrey Epstein have triggered heavy criticism because the palace's explanation leans heavily on distance and hindsight rather than accountability. While the Royal Court insists she merely “met” Epstein a few times in the mid-2000s, leaked emails paint a picture of someone orbiting his social world far more closely than the sanitized palace version suggests. She didn't just bump into him — she was introduced, socialized, exchanged emails, and was even invited to his private island. The palace's claim that she “declined” the trip reads more like damage control than moral clarity, especially given how many young women in that era were drawn into his orbit under similarly innocuous pretenses. Critics argue that Sofia benefited from the glamorous social connections Epstein helped facilitate while now relying on the defense that “no one knew” who he really was.The timing has also raised eyebrows. Her sudden withdrawal from the Nobel Prize ceremony — a major royal showcase she has consistently attended — didn't go unnoticed, and it fueled suspicion that the royal family is scrambling to contain fallout rather than confront it. The broader criticism is that the Swedish monarchy is handling Sofia's Epstein ties with the same evasive tone we've seen from other powerful institutions: acknowledging the bare minimum while declining to explain why she maintained contact long enough for invitations, introductions, and social overlap with a man who already had a reputation — even then — for inappropriate behavior around young women. The palace's framing tries to minimize the connection, but in doing so, it underscores the same elitism and selective amnesia that let Epstein operate untouched for decades.to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comsource:Royal princess curiously vanishes amid shock Epstein revelations after the ex-lingerie model was invited to Paedo Island

Meanwhile, Sheinelle Jones officially takes over the Today Show chair next to co-host Jenna Bush Hager, leaving some colleagues feeling blindsided by the switch. And in Hollywood, Pamela Anderson’s whirlwind romance with Liam Neeson has been exposed as mostly a publicity stunt, despite her glowing stories of candlelit dinners, gardening, and “lost weeks” at Neeson’s upstate retreat. Tyler welcomes comedy writer David Quantick to celebrate the 1965 film One Way Pendulum starring Goon Show alumnus Eric Sykes. Adapted by NF Simpson from his own 1959 Royal Court play and directed by Peter Yates (fresh off Summer Holiday, soon to make Bullitt), Eric plays suburban dad Arthur Groomkirby, who is quietly building a full-scale Old Bailey in his living room while his son Kirby (Jonathan Miller) teaches speak-your-weight machines to sing the Hallelujah Chorus in the attic. Meanwhile, daughter Sylvia (Julia Foster) obsesses over her arms and Aunt Mildred (Mona Washbourne) witters endlessly about transport. Rounding out the madness are Peggy Mount as the food-dispatching charlady and George Cole, Graham Crowden & Douglas Wilmer in a superb hallucinatory courtroom sequence. The comparisons to the Goon Show are obvious. David – who met Simpson – explains how his very British absurdism (Lewis Carroll meets Kafka with actual laughs) cloaks the bizarre inside the banal which none of his characters question. The humour is in the mismatch between the bland domestic surroundings and the offbeat conversations therein.

//The Wire//2100Z September 8, 2025////ROUTINE////BLUF: FRENCH PM RESIGNS AMID NO-CONFIDENCE VOTE. JAPANESE PM RESIGNS AMID PARTY LOSSES. SOCIAL TENSIONS CONTINUE TO RISE IN UNITED KINGDOM. CHARLOTTE, NC CORRUPTION HIGHLIGHTED BY BRUTAL MURDER CASE.// -----BEGIN TEARLINE------International Events-United Kingdom: Social tensions continue as before, which have been made worse by recent scandals. Several people have been arrested for posting content on social media that "caused someone anxiety", which although a common form of arrest in the United Kingdom, has still stoked the flames of social dissent as the migrant crisis has worsened. As of this morning, additional claims are circulating regarding whistleblower testimony suggesting that illegal migrants have been given priority for medical treatment throughout the NHS, which routinely results in British nationals being delayed care as migrants are moved up in the queue ahead of them. These claims draw back to the earlier revelation years ago that NHS practitioners were being dispatched to give private medical appointments to migrants stationed at migrant center hotels.Analyst Comment: As with most information from Britain these days, the veracity of most of the above information is hard to verify simply due to the lockdown on speech. Nevertheless, it doesn't really seem to matter that much now; the situation is spiraling into a state of uncertainty regardless of the minute details. This morning, a Banksy work was discovered painted on the side of Royal Courts of Justice, which featured the image of a judge attacking a protester. This thinly-veiled statement on the issues with the court's censorship efforts was made worse by the court immediately covering up the image upon it's discovery and setting up guards over it to prevent people from seeing it. In the United Kingdom nobody messes with a Banksy work and escapes unscathed, especially one so on-the-nose as this. As such, the dousing of gasoline on the societal bonfire continues, with very little chance of the situation de-escalating anytime soon.France: This morning the French government collapsed following a vote of no-confidence in Parliament. Prime Minister Francois Bayrou has resigned after losing the vote, with much speculation abounding regarding who Macron will choose to replace him.Analyst Comment: Some media sources speculate that since Macron has appointed right-leaning (by French standards) Prime Ministers twice now, there is growing pressure to appoint Olivier Faure, the current leader of the Socialist Party.Red Sea/HOA: Sunday afternoon internet disruptions were observed as multiple undersea communications cables were cut in the southern Red Sea. The IMEWE cable (which mostly serves India) and the SMW4 cable (which serves India and southwest Asia) were cut, along with the FALCON GCX which serves internet traffic to Kuwait.Analyst Comment: No word yet on what caused this cable cutting. Anchor dragging incidents are common in the area, along with more direct cable-cutting efforts that are intended to be perceived as "accidents". In either case, repairs will take some time, so it may be a while before any solid evidence on the cause of the damage comes to light.Far East: Japan's Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba resigned yesterday afternoon, following his closing of the trade deals with the United States.Analyst Comment: This was an expected resignation, but financial markets briefly reacted negatively anyway. Ishiba has been facing growing dissent (even from within his own party) regarding his handling of the migrant crisis that has now spread to Japan.-HomeFront-Alabama: Saturday morning one assailant was arrested for murdering a woman in a public park in Auburn. Local authorities arrested Harold Rashad Dabney III for the murder, after being apprehended driving the victim's vehi

James Hogg's ghoulish metaphysical crime novel 'The Private Memoirs and Confessions of a Justified Sinner' (1824) was presented as a found documented dating from the 17th century, describing in different voices the path to devilry of an antinomian Calvinist, Robert Wringhim. Mikhail Bulgakov's 'The Master and Margarita', written between 1928 and 1940, also hinges around a pact with Satan (Woland), who arrives in Moscow to create mayhem among its literary community and helps reunite an outcast writer, the Master, with his lover, Margarita. In this extended extra from ‘Fiction and the Fantastic', Marina Warner and Adam Thirlwell look at the ways in which these two ferocious works of comic horror tackle the challenge of representing fanaticism, be it Calvinism or Bolshevism, and consider why both writers used the fantastical to test reality. ‘Fiction and the Fantastic' is part of the LRB's Close Readings podcast.
