Two history graduates discuss the life of Boudica, Queen of the Iceni. Boudica was the Queen of a Celtic tribe called the Iceni, in what is now called Norfolk. Her story begins in 60-61AD, and ends with war and poison. Infamous as the ginger-haired warrior who burned down London, her story has lasted throughout the centuries, due to Tacitus and Cassius Dio immortalising and mythologising her story. As is the theme with this podcast, in this episode we find out the true story behind the fearsome facade, and learn about the woman who wanted to avenge the atrocities enacted on her daughters, and her people, by the tyrannical Roman occupation. In this episode I speak to Nicola Silk, the Bafta nominated director of the hit Channel 4 travel show Travel Man - 48 hours in... The series has had great success with comedian Richard Ayoade at the helm but now a new presenter, Joe Lycett is taking over the role of Travel Man.  We discuss how Nicola got started in TV and how she landed the gig as director of Travel Man, the show she is still series director of. Nicola recounts many funny stories of her time directing Richard and his celebrity guests, such as Chris O'Dowd, John Hamm, Eddie Izzard, Paul Rudd, Sarah Pascoe and many more.  We also talk about the logistics of setting up, filming and editing this unique travel show. I worked with Nicola on an episode of Travel Man, which we edited together in 2019. It was filmed in Dubrovnik and featured Stephen Merchant as Richard's celebrity guest.   You can find out more about that episode here: https://www.travelman48hrs.com/series6-625124-539962-617583.html You can watch Travel Man on demand at https://www.channel4.com/programmes/travel-man-48-hours-in/ and https://www.travelman48hrs.com/ You can follow Nicola on Twitter at https://twitter.com/nicola_silk @nicola_silk

Welcome, welcome, welcome to episode 282 of the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip! A real treat this week as Pip is joined by comedian, podcaster and author SARA PASCOE! She’s back by popular demand!A LOT has happened since episode 28 of Distraction Pieces. Yes indeed - it was March 2015 when she and Pip last episoded together, and so much life has happened since. And you know what? That is exactly what they’re going to get into right here in front of your very ears on this episode. It’s the Sarah Pascoe re-up! As Pip mentions in the intro, they go into some topics in some detail which are certainly worthy of trigger warning, so do be adequately prepared. You are of course in safe hands though, as they get into some really fascinating conversation including Taskmaster and the dynamics within, the joy of a new dog and the ensuing awesomeness and madness, the parallel joys of borrowing a dog, society at large and raising children, models of society, politics, unethical social experiments, her brand new book ‘Sex Power Money’ and accompanying podcast, the many facets of sex work and the misunderstandings of the industry, “don’t yuck someone’s yum”, her ‘Lads Lads Lads’ tour, the beauty of having outlets and places for seriousness and silliness, mixed messages of heckling and non-heckling and the gift of a good heckle and her show ‘Last Woman On Earth’. ENOUGH FOR YA?!? Enjoy!Pip outro notes: The greatness of this very episode - Podbible podcast and physical version - Joe Gilgun up next!EPISODE LINKS:• SARA on TWITTER• SEX POWER MONEY book• SEX POWER MONEY podcast• SARAH in LondonTHIS EPISODES SPIRIT ANIMALS:• DPP #278 • Konnie Huq• DPP #260 • Jayde AdamsLINKS FOR SCROOBIUS PIP & SPEECH DEVELOPMENT:• SCROOBIUS PIP on TWITTER!• SCROOBIUS PIP on INSTAGRAM!• SCROOBIUS PIP on PATREON!• POD BIBLE!• SPEECH DEVELOPMENT RECORDS • DISTRACTION PIECES NETWORK on FACEBOOK• DISTRACTION PIECES NETWORK on INSTAGRAM• NEW LISTENERS TAKE NOTE • You can find the full DISTRACTION PIECES episode list HERE!
