It’s time for a change. Since I started my handmade business, Epheriell, in 2008, the world has changed so much. I have changed so much. In 2008 I was a 27 year old tuition centre manager, living with my English boyfriend in the Brisbane suburbs, and I started making jewellery in my spare time to fulfil a creative urge I had neglected for years. When I started Epheriell as a hobby business, I had zero idea that I would be here, talking to you, almost 18 years later, after having built a number of different businesses – all in the realm of the handmade sphere – and having turned over almost two million dollars from those businesses in those years. Wow. I’ve never pulled that number up before! It’s a bit overwhelming to think I managed to create products with my own two hands and one brain, and have been able to make a living from them for all this time. But. The world has changed. I have changed. And it’s time for me to move on. So, as of June 2026, I’ll be retiring from handmade business education, and I’ll be putting Epheriell on indefinite sabbatical. What will I do next? I don’t actually know yet. But we’ve finally reached a point where we are in the financial position to allow me to take a sabbatical where I will have the space to rest, reflect, get the dosage of my MHT right (😆), and decide what’s next for me. I’ve officially reached middle age this year – I keep joking about the fact that I got my first reading glasses and my MHT prescription in the same week! I turn 45 in 2026, and like the elder millennial that I am, I have been obsessed with the internet since I first dove into the world of message boards, IRC, fandom, Geocities, Altavista and Ask Jeeves when I was a fresh-faced 15-year-old in 1996. Did you know, I made my very first website (on Geocities, of course) back in 1996 or 97 – and it was an X-Files fan site? It was pretty popular too! Though of course, the internet was a much, much smaller place back then. Since then, I’ve launched various blogs, started various businesses, worked for other people’s online businesses, been an affiliate, run a podcast, various YouTube channels, sold jewellery under 2 different brands, sold ads on my own site, launched a membership, sold ebooks and ecourses… I’ve tried all sorts of things and made money online in myriad ways since making that very first website (which, of course, made me zero dollars, but my nerdy friends thought it was cool, so…). Suffice it to say,  I’ve been here for a long time. 30 years! I always dreamt of making a living from the internet, and it took me about 12 years to finally crack how to do it properly – which started when I stumbled on Etsy back in 2008 and opened that first shop. It has been an amazing journey, and I have loved so much about it. It has enabled me and Nick to live a life we love. To live in a place we adore. To have so much freedom of time, to travel regularly to visit friends and family overseas, and to live a low-stress life. But I’m ready to move on. I’m also ready to take a break from the internet. I have slowly faded away from most social media over the last few years. I have no interest in instagram any more. I pretty much only use Facebook to find events to attend IRL. Threads I have been enjoying, because it felt like a breath of fresh air to actually talk WITH people again, but even that is growing thin for me right now. Don’t even get me started on TikTok (ugh). I have been putting myself and my face and my life out there on the internet since my early 20s. But as I get older, and the changes in the online world loom, I feel the need to take a step back and just be again, without sharing things publicly with the world. It’s time for retreat, recalibration, and reflection. To decide what I want to do with this next phase of my life. And to do that, I’m stepping away for a time. Does that mean I’ll never come back online? Not at all! I might decide to start up my YouTube again. Or to launch something totally new. And it doesn’t mean I’m disappearing today. But I am aiming to be on sabbatical by the winter solstice here in Australia, which is June 21st, 2026. Why am I telling you so early? Because I’m going to offer a bunch of things for the last time, and it felt disingenuous to do so without being upfront about it. I’ve always tried my best to be honest and keep firm grip on my integrity in a space where that seems to be increasingly rare. I want you to know what’s happening, and why, so you can prepare and be aware – and if you so choose, to take advantage of my offers with full knowledge. If you are in my community, or are one of my students, Thriver Circle members, or Epheriell customers, here’s the timeline of exactly what’s happening. Timeline December 2025 Thriver Circle final launch – December 29th till January 7th. If you join at this time, I will unlock the full Your Year to Thrive course, so you will have just under 6 months to work through it at your own pace during this time (which does mean doing 2 lessons a week instead of 1 should you want to). You will have full access to all other courses and workshops, and I will still be running 2 live calls each month until the end of May, and I’ll be active in the FB group community. February 2026 Set Up Shop runs for the final time – February 9th till March 10th. April 2026 I will offer shop critiques until April 6th, then they will no longer be available. May 2026 I will offer the Wholesale Know-How course until May 4th, after which it will no longer be available. June 2026 The Thriver Circle will close forever on June 8th, 2026. Members will no longer have access to any aspect of the Circle, including the FB group, courses, workshops, podcasts. All memberships will be cancelled and all payments will be stopped by this date at the latest. I encourage members to cancel their membership when their May payment is deducted, as you will then stay an active member until the shut-down should you so wish. I will archiving all my social media – bar YouTube (I’m leaving all my free videos up) in June. Epheriell will be placed on sabbatical on June 8th, 2026. This will give us time to process any final orders by the time I take sabbatical. (I’m not ruling out opening Epheriell again in the future, but it will be a long while – probably at least 18 months – until I do so – unless Nick decides he wants to run it without my input, but he’s gotten himself a good permanent part-time government job so that will probably keep him busy enough!). On June 21st I will hopefully be done with all the work to wrap up the businesses, and will be stepping away from all social media for at least 6 months and taking a sabbatical from work and the online world.  I’m not going to lie, I am simultaneously elated and terrified to take this step. I’ve been feeling the urge to move on for a while now, but the circumstances were not in alignment until now, and I know that if I don’t take advantage of this opportunity, I will regret it immensely. I’m excited to take my first real break from paid work since I was 16, and I’m so thankful to Nick for joyfully supporting me in this choice. I want to take a moment to thank him, publicly, for all the work he has put in since this all began back in 2008. Not only in the business – of which he has been an employee for over a decade now (and let’s be honest, an unpaid helper before that) – but in our life together. He has been unfailing in his support – both emotional and practical – from day 1. He has been the main home manager – taking care of the fundamentals of life like cooking, cleaning, shopping, mowing, repairs… all of those ‘mundane’ things that most women have bear the mental load of, even when they are working as well. He’s freed me up to manage and run the businesses – and we have assisted each other in our respective spheres all this time. It’s going to be quite the dynamic shift as he goes ‘to work’ (even though he’ll still be mostly working from home, thankfully!) and I take on more of the domestic load for the first time in our relationship. I couldn’t have a more supportive partner in business and life, and I am so grateful every day that we chose to travel through life together. Thank you so much, Nick, for all that you are and all that you do. I love you, and I couldn’t have done this without you. So – I’m not going anywhere just yet, but I wanted you all to know what 2026 has in store. I will still be here, enthusiastically running my businesses and helping you for the first half of 2026, and I will treasure the chance to work in this space – and with you – for these last few months. It’s been an amazing career, and it wouldn’t exist without you. I want to say thank you to YOU. To the 6,000+ people who’ve bought a piece of Epheriell jewellery. Thank you for trusting us to make a treasured piece of jewellery. Particularly those of you for whom we’ve made wedding rings. Every one has been special and we’ve been honoured to make it for you. To every person who’s read my blog posts, my emails, listened to my podcast, or watched a YouTube video – I hope something I said has helped you! I have put so much free content out there over the years that honestly, you could have built your whole business using just that (and I know people who have, because they’ve told me!). But, most deeply, I want to say thank you to the thousands of past and present students who have paid me actual money to teach and help you grow your businesses: all I can hope for is that I haven’t let you down. I hope what I shared made a difference, I hope it was valuable, and I hope that you continue to chase your dreams, whatever they may be. I have always loved the handmade community – there are still so many genuine, creative, wonderful people making things with their hands and hearts. And in this ever-more-digital and fast-everything world we live in, I think handmade has more value than ever. May you all continue to add your unique beauty to the world. Now I’m going to sign off before I make myself cry. Keep Thriving, Jess The Thriver Circle is open now, for the last time. Join Now Then and Now Nick and I in 2008, at the housewarming for our first rental together. This is where I started Epheriell. I made the seaglass necklace I’m wearing – some of my early jewellery incorporated seaglass found at my local beach. Nick and I in 2025, in Dubrovnik.

Autorica tekstom i crtežima oblikuje onaj sablasni i teško izrecivi višak materijalne strane ljudske egzistencije, dok smještanje priča u razdoblje tranzicije u Hrvatskoj dodatno pojačava njihov jezivi efekt. "Poštovane kukce" žanrovski bi se moglo opisati kao tranzicijsku gotiku, postsocijalističku zonu sumraka, jezivo stvarnosnu prozu… Mračno i apsurdne, a opet duboko intimne, snažne i društveno osjetljive priče. Welcome back to another episode of Fratello On Air. We've been on hiatus for the last month during the summer, but we're back in action! In this installment, we detail some of the places we've been and what we've seen. Cars and watches have been high on the list!Yes, it's been a while, but we're back together. This week's podcast is primarily about cars and watches at events in major cities. Next episode, we'll be back with a more hardcore topic, which will likely cover one of our listener suggestions. For now, settle in as we recall our travels and experiences.HandgelenkskontrolleBefore we get into watches, we begin our discussion about Ferrari's latest reveal. The 849 Testarossa is already proving to be controversial. It sparks a conversation about the difference between comments in social media about cars and watches. Regarding television, we discuss Mobland, Only Murders In The Building, Dexter: Resurrection, and The Sopranos. Then, Balazs mentions the recent sale of a Michael Jordan / Kobe Bryant basketball card that set a record at $12.9 million! For the Handgelenkskontrolle, Balazs is wearing the new Albishorn 1958 Marinagraph Paraíba Racing. Stay tuned for an upcoming hands-on review. Mike is wearing his Seiko SLA019, a 2018 release that marked the first ceramic bezel and sapphire crystal for the beloved Marinemaster 300.Watches and carsWe kick off our main topic on recent travels that included cars and watches with a recap of Geneva Watch Days. Sadly, Balazs didn't attend, but the releases were well-covered. Overall, the mood was somber because of the US tariff scenario. Brands were questioning the need and the expense related to two shows. The reveals were positive, especially from the smaller brands, but it was a quieter show overall despite more brands in attendance. Next, we discuss the 2025 Balkan Rally, which Balazs attended. The event kicked off in Budapest and ended five days later in Dubrovnik. Classic cars and watches were all part of the festivities. Finally, we head back to London, where Mike attended the Concours of Elegance hosted by A. Lange & Söhne. Once again, several of the attendees wore intriguing watches, but the cars were incredible. Of note was a lovely Singer Porsche. It was the first time Mike saw one in person, which followed his first visit to the Singer Reimagined headquarters in Geneva just two days earlier. We hope you enjoyed our return to the airwaves, and we look forward to coming back regularly. As always, if you have ideas for future shows, feel free to let us know.

Olga is known for her unique black-and-white photography that captures fleeting moments and emotions, often in rainy and dark conditions. We kicked off the conversation by discussing Olga's journey into photography, which began in her childhood but took a hiatus during her university years. It wasn't until her 30s that she rediscovered her passion, leading her to explore street photography. Olga shared her preference for shooting in less-than-ideal weather, explaining how the rain and cold inspire her creativity and allow her to capture images that many others might overlook. We delved into her distinctive style, which is heavily influenced by expressionist painters and characterised by a dreamlike quality. Olga emphasised that her work is about conveying emotion rather than adhering to traditional beauty standards, which often leads her to capture the more melancholic aspects of her surroundings. As we wrapped up, we asked Olga about her future projects and her thoughts on the rise of AI in photography. She expressed confidence in the irreplaceable nature of human emotion in art, highlighting that while AI can replicate styles, it cannot capture the essence of human experience.Overall, this episode was a deep dive into the world of street photography through Olga's eyes, offering inspiration and insight for both aspiring and seasoned photographers. Cities and Memory - remixing the sounds of the world

There is a little window, in the attic of a Dalmatian villa from the early middle ages, overlooking the dreamy cascade landscape of downtown Dubrovnik. It's early June, 8 am. A melody of old Mediterranean terracotta roofs plunging into each other is nursing a soft morning light. The polyphony of ages embedded in the stone makes the town glow from its neutron core. No corners are mislaid, and the fortress is keeping us safe. The window is slightly recessed, almost on the corner with Stradun, and a person with fine jumping skills could easily reach the roof of the church across the narrow street. It's Sunday, and the bells from the various towers across town are spilling their gongs. I needed to sleep a bit more. But the grinding machinery of tourism has its own agenda. Savagely squeaking swallows and the morning congregations of seagulls sound like a pastorale compared to the town's growling bowels. Air conditioning units, pumps, kitchen ventilation, garbage trucks, delivery vehicles, wheels, and trolleys of all sorts. I could not help but be fascinated by how a landscape of such beaming beauty can exist in this hideous soundscape. In all of its ugliness, the soundscape of Dubrovnik still hides so much contemporaneity. The large ventilation unit drones are textural and multiphonic. Anarchy in the town's electrical grid is constantly buzzing from nooks and crevices like some robo-brute. Sounds of the wagons for garbage collection, and the rivers of inbound and outbound suitcases are bouncing over the stone streets like a constant percussive development. I enjoyed it a lot. But perhaps we should give it a second thought. The noise in which certain Mediterranean architectural marvels are soaked due to uncontrolled mass tourism is a “silent” killer. Of the environment, and of the local culture and dignity. UNESCO listing: Old City of Dubrovnik Recorded by Manja Ristic. Cities and Memory - remixing the sounds of the world

"The first thing that stood out to me about this field recording is that there is no real melodic information. It's all street noise, most of it not of clearly recognisable origin.  "Even though Dubrovnik is 4,700 miles away from where I live, in another country on another continent across an ocean, the soundscape is very familiar to me. Garbage trucks and ventilation units all speak the same language.  "In her notes on the recording, Ristić describes the noisy Dubrovnik morning with richly evocative phrases like: “textural and multiphonic”; “grinding machinery”; “the town's growling bowels”; and “a constant percussive development.”  "She writes: “I could not help but be fascinated by how a landscape of such beaming beauty can exist in this hideous soundscape.”  "I kicked around a few ideas but eventually decided to have the work be entirely rhythmic. I wanted to capture that unfocused, only-half-listening state when you become aware of rhythms emerging from the background and soon you begin adding your own.  "Early on I was listening to the recording on headphones while walking home from the train and imagining different rhythmic elements over it. I was walking at a good pace and that set the tempo. It's a long walk and I got so used to that beat that thereafter I couldn't imagine it differently.  "I wanted to use the field recording as the sole sound source but at some point found a royalty-free recording of pealing church bells in Old Town Dubrovnik that was too wonderful to not use*. Aside from that, everything is derived from the field recording.  *[Royalty Free Sound Library: “Croatia Church Bells” recorded by Free to Use Sounds and purchased on Bandcamp] "I created and assembled this piece using Koala Sampler, AUM and AudioShare, splitting tasks between my iPhone and my iPad. Ultimately I didn't use any audio effects or digital manipulation.  "I find inspiration everywhere, but this composition was particularly inspired by Dance of the Knights from Prokofiev's Romeo & Juliet, Tom Waits' junkyard jug band sound, and Manja Ristić's previous work with field recordings. When I saw she had contributed a recording for the project, I chose it immediately." Dubrovnik streets reimagined by daddy fall down. As Yugoslavia began to break down, the Balkans conflict began - a series of brutal wars characterised by disputes over territory, identity, and ethnic divisions. In 1991, the Croatian War of Independence started – the first of the major wars. One of its defining moments came in October, when the Yugoslav People's Army advanced on the south of the country leading to the Siege of Dubrovnik. One of the Yugoslav People's Army commanders in the region was Rear Admiral Krsto Đurović, a Montenegrin who had spent his life working in Croatia, married a Croatian and planned to retire to the country. Attacking Dubrovnik was unthinkable for the Rear Admiral, and he promised the city's major: “As long as I am the commander, not a single shell will fall on Dubrovnik."Shortly afterwards he was killed in a suspicious helicopter crash – his superiors claimed he was shot down, but there were no opposition forces in the area, and Croatian officials denied any part in the crash. There was never an autopsy and no military investigation. Soon after, Miodrag Jokic was appointed Đurović's replacement, and a vicious bombing campaign began which would later see Jokic convicted of war crimes. Johnny I'Anson speaks to Montenegrin journalist Veseljko Koprivica, and documentary maker Mladen Ivanovic who say Rear Admiral Đurović's refusal to bomb Dubrovnik may have led to his untimely death. Eye-witness accounts brought to life by archive. Witness History is for those fascinated by the past. We take you to the events that have shaped our world through the eyes of the people who were there. For nine minutes every day, we take you back in time and all over the world, to examine wars, coups, scientific discoveries, cultural moments and much more. Recent episodes explore everything from football in Brazil, the history of the ‘Indian Titanic' and the invention of air fryers, to Public Enemy's Fight The Power, subway art and the political crisis in Georgia. We look at the lives of some of the most famous leaders, artists, scientists and personalities in history, including: visionary architect Antoni Gaudi and the design of the Sagrada Familia; Michael Jordan and his bespoke Nike trainers; Princess Diana at the Taj Mahal; and Görel Hanser, manager of legendary Swedish pop band Abba on the influence they've had on the music industry. You can learn all about fascinating and surprising stories, such as the time an Iraqi journalist hurled his shoes at the President of the United States in protest of America's occupation of Iraq; the creation of the Hollywood commercial that changed advertising forever; and the ascent of the first Aboriginal MP.(Photo: Rear Admiral Đurović. On this episode, we recap our favorite hotel stays from 2024, with picks that are great for international and domestic travel for couples, friends, or family trips. Andaz Amsterdam Prinsengracht - part of Hyatt Hotels, this hotel has a fabulous location on one of the main canals in a great area. The staff was helpful and the room was stylish. The only thing to keep in mind is that it has an open bathroom concept, so it wouldn't be great for families or two friends sharing a room. This is a good option for those who travel with points. Chase is a transfer partner with Hyatt. Tamara visited this hotel in January on her weekend getaway to Amsterdam. Exeter Hotel Reykjavik - this hotel also has an open bathroom format. The location is about a 10-minute walk from the main shopping and sightseeing district. The room rate also included free breakfast and there was a passcode-locked gate for storing luggage. Kim stayed here with her daughter before their Windstar Cruise. Weston Inn Vermont - this is a nice luxury inn in Southern Vermont with top-notch service, a great restaurant, nicely appointed rooms, a spa and fitness center with fantastic yoga classes. This is a perfect romantic getaway. Read Tamara's full review. Inn at Laurel Point, Victoria - Kim talked about this hotel on a recent episode about Victoria, BC. It is located right on the waterfront just a short walk from downtown. They have spacious rooms, nice L'Occitane bath products, soaker tubs, and a fabulous cafe and full-service restaurant on site. Sandestin Hilton, Florida - located along 30A near Destin, Florida, this area has gorgeous white sand beaches and calm water. This is a great hotel for families because one of the towers has 300 rooms that have bunk beds. It is easy to have a family of five in one room and not feel cramped. Read Tamara's full Sandestin Hilton review. White House Hotel, Istanbul - had rooms with three twin beds, making it a great choice for a friend trip to Istanbul. The price was extremely reasonable and it is in the Sultanahmet neighborhood near all the main attractions. Hagia Sofia Mansions, Istanbul - this is a Curio Collection by Hilton Hotel, also in the Sultanahmet neighborhood and it was beautiful. The rooms are spread across multiple buildings and the rooms feel very luxurious. There are two restaurants and the breakfast has so much food. Park Hyatt Istanbul - Macka Palas - the hotel room was fabulous but it is located in a high-end shopping district, which may mean you spend more on cabs getting around the city. Avantgarde Refined Urgup - Cappadocia is a region of towns and this hotel is in the up-and-coming town of Urgup. This is a newly-opened, cave-style hotel with excellent service and food. Meneghetti Wine Hotel, Croatia - this is Tamara's favorite hotel of the year. They stayed in a one-bedroom residence that had a living room, 1.5 baths, loft bedroom, with a private backyard and patio. The hotel is located on a wine estate and has multiple restaurants, two pools, a beach club, spa, and more. Read about Tamara's couples trip to Croatia. If you love Italy and Greece, you are going to love today's destination! Tamara shares her two-week trip with her husband to Croatia. They visited Dubrovnik, Korcula, Hvar, Split, Zadar, and Istria for a mix of relaxation, food, wine, history, and cultural exploration. Croatia is a lovely country to visit because it is very clean and one of the safest countries to visit in the world. Unfortunately, it is also surprisingly expensive. It isn't the "cheaper" Italy. You can see a full Croatia budget breakdown. Istria was less expensive than other parts of the country. Tamara's itinerary included: 3 nights in Dubrovnik at the Rixos Premium 1 night in Korcula at Aminess Hotel Korcula 3 nights in Hvar at the Beach Bay Hvar Hotel 1 night in Zadar at Hotel Bastion 4 nights in Istria at the Hotel Meneghetti You can find her full Croatia itinerary for couples here. It is best to fly into one city and fly out of another. For example, fly into Dubrovnik and out of Zagreb. To get around in the southern Dalmatian region and islands, you can ferry hop to different islands. To visit the northern part of the country, it is best to rent a car. Another option is to take a small ship cruise or yacht charter to explore the coast and islands that way.
