Glasgow lad Chris Currie — better known by his production and DJ alias Dubrovnik (UK) — returns to Avenue Red with a two-hour payload of precision deep, techy, hypnotic goodness. Expect shimmering splashes of melody and colour throughout, alongside plenty of dub-infused pressure in this earthy, tripped-out brew of tunes. This mix is partly in honour of Chris in his absence at this year's repeat summer daze event @ OverDraught in Levenshulme, south Manchester. Only one of the Glasgow Chrises (other one being Chris Curtis - in attendance!) could make it this time. But to warm us up? We have this ace mix that somehow evokes that moment in Alan Partridge's chat show where 007 chap Roger Moore couldn't quite make it to the show... got stuck near Chiswick Roundabout apparently. Awful, awful business... Dubrovnik (UK) is not visiting Croatia either... he's just playing at some prestigious golf tournament. But good luck to him, right?! Many of his own tracks: released and unreleased; are featured in this hyper-focused session of deep, insightful 4/4 musical engineering. Get it on. "An honour and privilege to support Avenue Red boss Alec on his global outreach of sharing quality music via this awesome platform!! Hope you enjoy the mix. Took it through the gears and condensed what would normally be an extended set into a 2-hour story from deep dubbyness to spacey bangness!" Vinyl records, coffee table books, low-maintenance pot plants: from Dublin to Dubrovnik, all good hipsters have the same stuff. The Italian writer Vincenzo Latronico captures this boring international aesthetic beautifully in his hit novel ‘Perfection', while skewering millennial life in general. Do you like hearing about Lisbon food, the internet vs real life, and everything that's wrong with the word ‘expat'? Then you'll love our inaugural book club conversation, even if you haven't read the book. We're also talking this week about a fugitive Polish politician's transatlantic dash, and the questionable Frenchness of a celebrated giraffe. Listen to the end if you want to know why we are launching a side-business importing sun loungers. Our book club is brought to you in collaboration with the European Review of Books, featuring the magazine's co-founder Wiegertje Postma along with Portuguese bookworm Teresa Bandeira de Carvalho. The latest issue of the European Review of Books is out today! You can subscribe to Teresa's excellent Substack here, and read her viral post on the word ‘expat' here. This week's Inspiration Station recommendations are the Zenodot website, where you can check if a book has been translated into your language, and the European Press Prize shortlist.NEED MORE BOOK CHAT? Subscribers of The Europeans have access to an extended version of our book club conversation – twice as long and packed with thoughtful observations about everything from whether or not this story has a happy ending, to... how to run a book club. Avenue Red had a very enjoyable sunshine-drenched live session on the 10th May 2025 at the excellent underground techno pub named OverDraught, located in south Manchester's Levenshulme area. This was a 10-hour long session and the original recording has been frankly slept on for precisely 1 year. But here we are now proud to present this juicy excerpt, which is the first 5 hours and 40 minutes of the event when things were "relatively coherent", shall we say. Expect all shades of underground house, deep house, techno, dub techno, tech house, electro, electronica, IDM and more from a shedload of records and some digital action too! Original Event Listing: https://ra.co/events/2159252 ~~~ Lineup ~~~ Alec Pritchard [The weird one from Gloucester] Chris Curtis [Deepness wizard #1 down from Glasgow] Dubrovnik (UK) [Deepness wizard #2 down from Glasgow] Tomas Bexton [House & techno vineyard gangster up from Maidstone, Kent] Keep an eye out for our next event at OverDraught on Saturday 30th May, again running from 3pm until 1am with a similar lineup, as we have Alec Pritchard, Chris Curtis and Tomas Bexton all returning. We also have special guest Lozz HT heading up from Birmingham to bolster the occasion. Going to be fun yet again... same party, different weekend. Affirmations aren't just positive words—they're powerful tools that can reshape your thoughts, rewire your brain, and shift your reality. In this episode, I'm diving deep into how affirmations actually work, the science behind them, and how you can use them to break through limiting beliefs and step into success. From climbing the historic walls of Dubrovnik to overcoming stage nerves at Wreath Makers Live, I'll share personal experiences where affirmations helped me push past fear and show up with confidence. You'll also learn about the Reticular Activating System (RAS)—the part of your brain that filters your reality based on what you repeatedly tell yourself. Plus, I'll walk you through a simple yet powerful affirmation exercise that you can try today to start shifting your mindset. And if you've ever wondered how to make affirmations truly effective, I'll share practical tips to help you move beyond just saying the words to actually believing and embodying them. What affirmation are you focusing on this week? Send me a message or share in the community—I'd love to hear from you!
Together with his husband, Vinko Anthony runs a matchmaking agency for gay men looking for the type of enduring commitment and love that they found. As part of his role as matchmaker, Vinko shares what he's learnt about love and listening through the ups and downs of his own relationships.Vinko grew up on the shores of the Adriatic Sea, where he spent a lot of his childhood with his Nonna. The two of them would walk together for hours in silence, listening deeply to the birds, the waves and the wind. Then, when they got home and sat down to eat, VInko and his Nonna would listen to each other.Vinko took these lessons in listening and love very seriously, and he brought them with him when his family migrated to Australia and also into his vocation as a matchmaker. When Vinko finally got the courage to tell the love of his life a secret he had been hiding for five years, he had to trust that all that love and listening would be gracefully given back to him.Vinko has written a book about his love story and his matchmaking business. It's called All In: How to Make Love Stick.Vinko and his husband, Andrea, co-founded a dating agency called Beau Brummell Introductions, for gay men in Australia, the US, the UK, Hong Kong, Singapore, and New Zealand. This episode of Conversations was produced by Meggie Morris. Send a textWonder what luxury at sea really takes when the cameras stop rolling? We sit with Captain Kerry Titheradge from Bravo's Below Deck, a leader trusted with 300-foot vessels and volatile reality TV moments. We unpack the true costs of chartering a superyacht, why five-star hotel service can't match a dialed-in crew at sea, and how leadership—not boat handling—is the captain's hardest job. We get a candid look at production rhythms, safety priorities, and the moment a cameraman helped avert disaster. Then we slip into adventure mode: Cappadocia's sunrise balloons, Fethiye's paragliding cliffs, Dubrovnik's stone ramparts, Kotor's dramatic bay, and Australia's trifecta of the Great Barrier Reef, the Outback, and Barossa Valley vineyards where kangaroos hop between rows. Back in Florida, Kerry chases quiet flight on an e-foil, skimming above water in search of small, perfect moments. That ethos flows into Yachting Concepts, his company guiding new owners—especially under 100 feet. Buying a yacht is the easy part; stewardship is the real voyage. Kerry closes with a Maldives memory threaded through Middle Eastern terminals alive with peaceful diversity, coral gardens facing climate pressures, and a solo ascent of the Eiffel Tower on the way home.If you enjoyed this sea-level view of luxury, leadership, and adventure, follow the show, share it with a friend, and leave a review so more curious travelers can find us. **Our guest, Captain Kerry Titheradge, CEO of Yachting Concepts, appeared for three years on Bravo TV's popular reality show Below Deck.Podcast host Lea Lane has traveled to over 100 countries, and has written nine books, including the award-winning Places I Remember (Kirkus Reviews star rating, and 'one of the top 100 Indie books of the year'). The Mediterranean cruise market is surging toward nearly six million passengers in 2026, fueled by massive mega-ships and fierce competition between European and American cruise lines. This episode explores the explosive growth reshaping ports from Santorini to Dubrovnik, MSC's bold strategy to broadcast all 104 World Cup matches fleet-wide, and the sobering reality check delivered by Celebrity Infinity's power failure off the coast of Greece—proving that even billion-dollar floating cities are still at the mercy of aging hardware.

Kaj je zdaj s temi Hrvati? S pomladjo se vrnejo ptice selivke, z volitvami se vrnejo Hrvati. Točni kot švicarska ura. Včasih so prihajali s piranskim zalivom, Jožkom Jorasom, ratifikacijo in ostalimi obmejnimi praksami. Letos je drugače. Letos so predvolilna tema, ker so boljši od nas. V gospodarstvu in – če lahko dodamo – v nogometu. Kakorkoli. Hrvati so nas prehiteli. Hrvati so namreč ponovno uvedli naborništvo.
During Race Industry Week by EPARTRADE, Rodi Basso, Founder & CEO of the E1 Series, shares the inside story behind the world's first all-electric powerboat racing championship and explains how E1 is shaping the future of sustainable water mobility.Born during the COVID pandemic and developed in collaboration with Alejandro Agag (Formula E, Extreme E), E1 was conceived not just as a racing series, but as a global technology laboratory for electric propulsion on water. Backed by Basso's extensive experience at Formula One, McLaren, and Magneti Marelli, the championship secured a landmark 25-year exclusivity agreement with the UIM, officially launching the World Electric Powerboat Championship in Monaco. At the heart of E1 is the revolutionary RaceBird — a purpose-built electric raceboat that uses hydrofoils to lift the hull above the water, dramatically reducing drag. Despite water being nearly 800 times denser than air, the RaceBird achieves exceptional efficiency, with the battery accounting for less than 20% of total weight and top speeds approaching 52 knots.

It’s time for a change. Since I started my handmade business, Epheriell, in 2008, the world has changed so much. I have changed so much. In 2008 I was a 27 year old tuition centre manager, living with my English boyfriend in the Brisbane suburbs, and I started making jewellery in my spare time to fulfil a creative urge I had neglected for years. When I started Epheriell as a hobby business, I had zero idea that I would be here, talking to you, almost 18 years later, after having built a number of different businesses – all in the realm of the handmade sphere – and having turned over almost two million dollars from those businesses in those years. Wow. I’ve never pulled that number up before! It’s a bit overwhelming to think I managed to create products with my own two hands and one brain, and have been able to make a living from them for all this time. But. The world has changed. I have changed. And it’s time for me to move on. So, as of June 2026, I’ll be retiring from handmade business education, and I’ll be putting Epheriell on indefinite sabbatical. What will I do next? I don’t actually know yet. But we’ve finally reached a point where we are in the financial position to allow me to take a sabbatical where I will have the space to rest, reflect, get the dosage of my MHT right (😆), and decide what’s next for me. I’ve officially reached middle age this year – I keep joking about the fact that I got my first reading glasses and my MHT prescription in the same week! I turn 45 in 2026, and like the elder millennial that I am, I have been obsessed with the internet since I first dove into the world of message boards, IRC, fandom, Geocities, Altavista and Ask Jeeves when I was a fresh-faced 15-year-old in 1996. Did you know, I made my very first website (on Geocities, of course) back in 1996 or 97 – and it was an X-Files fan site? It was pretty popular too! Though of course, the internet was a much, much smaller place back then. Since then, I’ve launched various blogs, started various businesses, worked for other people’s online businesses, been an affiliate, run a podcast, various YouTube channels, sold jewellery under 2 different brands, sold ads on my own site, launched a membership, sold ebooks and ecourses… I’ve tried all sorts of things and made money online in myriad ways since making that very first website (which, of course, made me zero dollars, but my nerdy friends thought it was cool, so…). Suffice it to say, I’ve been here for a long time. 30 years! I always dreamt of making a living from the internet, and it took me about 12 years to finally crack how to do it properly – which started when I stumbled on Etsy back in 2008 and opened that first shop. It has been an amazing journey, and I have loved so much about it. It has enabled me and Nick to live a life we love. To live in a place we adore. To have so much freedom of time, to travel regularly to visit friends and family overseas, and to live a low-stress life. But I’m ready to move on. I’m also ready to take a break from the internet. I have slowly faded away from most social media over the last few years. I have no interest in instagram any more. I pretty much only use Facebook to find events to attend IRL. Threads I have been enjoying, because it felt like a breath of fresh air to actually talk WITH people again, but even that is growing thin for me right now. Don’t even get me started on TikTok (ugh). I have been putting myself and my face and my life out there on the internet since my early 20s. But as I get older, and the changes in the online world loom, I feel the need to take a step back and just be again, without sharing things publicly with the world. It’s time for retreat, recalibration, and reflection. To decide what I want to do with this next phase of my life. And to do that, I’m stepping away for a time. Does that mean I’ll never come back online? Not at all! I might decide to start up my YouTube again. Or to launch something totally new. And it doesn’t mean I’m disappearing today. But I am aiming to be on sabbatical by the winter solstice here in Australia, which is June 21st, 2026. Why am I telling you so early? Because I’m going to offer a bunch of things for the last time, and it felt disingenuous to do so without being upfront about it. I’ve always tried my best to be honest and keep firm grip on my integrity in a space where that seems to be increasingly rare. I want you to know what’s happening, and why, so you can prepare and be aware – and if you so choose, to take advantage of my offers with full knowledge. If you are in my community, or are one of my students, Thriver Circle members, or Epheriell customers, here’s the timeline of exactly what’s happening. Timeline December 2025 Thriver Circle final launch – December 29th till January 7th. If you join at this time, I will unlock the full Your Year to Thrive course, so you will have just under 6 months to work through it at your own pace during this time (which does mean doing 2 lessons a week instead of 1 should you want to). You will have full access to all other courses and workshops, and I will still be running 2 live calls each month until the end of May, and I’ll be active in the FB group community. February 2026 Set Up Shop runs for the final time – February 9th till March 10th. April 2026 I will offer shop critiques until April 6th, then they will no longer be available. May 2026 I will offer the Wholesale Know-How course until May 4th, after which it will no longer be available. June 2026 The Thriver Circle will close forever on June 8th, 2026. Members will no longer have access to any aspect of the Circle, including the FB group, courses, workshops, podcasts. All memberships will be cancelled and all payments will be stopped by this date at the latest. I encourage members to cancel their membership when their May payment is deducted, as you will then stay an active member until the shut-down should you so wish. I will archiving all my social media – bar YouTube (I’m leaving all my free videos up) in June. Epheriell will be placed on sabbatical on June 8th, 2026. This will give us time to process any final orders by the time I take sabbatical. (I’m not ruling out opening Epheriell again in the future, but it will be a long while – probably at least 18 months – until I do so – unless Nick decides he wants to run it without my input, but he’s gotten himself a good permanent part-time government job so that will probably keep him busy enough!). On June 21st I will hopefully be done with all the work to wrap up the businesses, and will be stepping away from all social media for at least 6 months and taking a sabbatical from work and the online world. I’m not going to lie, I am simultaneously elated and terrified to take this step. I’ve been feeling the urge to move on for a while now, but the circumstances were not in alignment until now, and I know that if I don’t take advantage of this opportunity, I will regret it immensely. I’m excited to take my first real break from paid work since I was 16, and I’m so thankful to Nick for joyfully supporting me in this choice. I want to take a moment to thank him, publicly, for all the work he has put in since this all began back in 2008. Not only in the business – of which he has been an employee for over a decade now (and let’s be honest, an unpaid helper before that) – but in our life together. He has been unfailing in his support – both emotional and practical – from day 1. He has been the main home manager – taking care of the fundamentals of life like cooking, cleaning, shopping, mowing, repairs… all of those ‘mundane’ things that most women have bear the mental load of, even when they are working as well. He’s freed me up to manage and run the businesses – and we have assisted each other in our respective spheres all this time. It’s going to be quite the dynamic shift as he goes ‘to work’ (even though he’ll still be mostly working from home, thankfully!) and I take on more of the domestic load for the first time in our relationship. I couldn’t have a more supportive partner in business and life, and I am so grateful every day that we chose to travel through life together. Thank you so much, Nick, for all that you are and all that you do. I love you, and I couldn’t have done this without you. So – I’m not going anywhere just yet, but I wanted you all to know what 2026 has in store. I will still be here, enthusiastically running my businesses and helping you for the first half of 2026, and I will treasure the chance to work in this space – and with you – for these last few months. It’s been an amazing career, and it wouldn’t exist without you. I want to say thank you to YOU. To the 6,000+ people who’ve bought a piece of Epheriell jewellery. Thank you for trusting us to make a treasured piece of jewellery. Particularly those of you for whom we’ve made wedding rings. Every one has been special and we’ve been honoured to make it for you. To every person who’s read my blog posts, my emails, listened to my podcast, or watched a YouTube video – I hope something I said has helped you! I have put so much free content out there over the years that honestly, you could have built your whole business using just that (and I know people who have, because they’ve told me!). But, most deeply, I want to say thank you to the thousands of past and present students who have paid me actual money to teach and help you grow your businesses: all I can hope for is that I haven’t let you down. I hope what I shared made a difference, I hope it was valuable, and I hope that you continue to chase your dreams, whatever they may be. I have always loved the handmade community – there are still so many genuine, creative, wonderful people making things with their hands and hearts. And in this ever-more-digital and fast-everything world we live in, I think handmade has more value than ever. May you all continue to add your unique beauty to the world. Now I’m going to sign off before I make myself cry. Keep Thriving, Jess The Thriver Circle is open now, for the last time. Join Now Then and Now Nick and I in 2008, at the housewarming for our first rental together. This is where I started Epheriell. Few names in modern water polo shine as brightly as Andrija Prlainović. Born in Dubrovnik and raised in the intense rivalry of the Adriatic coast, he became one of the defining players of his generation. Over three decades in the pool, he collected nearly every possible title — Olympic gold, World and European Championships, club triumphs with Partizan Belgrade and Pro Recco, and countless lessons learned along the way. In this episode of the WET Podcast, Prlainović speaks with openness and reflection about his path — from a young boy watching local heroes to becoming one himself. What follows is not just the story of a champion, but of a man who believes that discipline, humility, and hard work are the true foundations of success.
Autorica tekstom i crtežima oblikuje onaj sablasni i teško izrecivi višak materijalne strane ljudske egzistencije, dok smještanje priča u razdoblje tranzicije u Hrvatskoj dodatno pojačava njihov jezivi efekt. Mračno i apsurdne, a opet duboko intimne, snažne i društveno osjetljive priče. I have a very special episode today with travel journalist Deirdre Mullins to cover the Dalmatian coast of Croatia from Zadar to Split to Dubrovnik. We chatted about the wonders of island hopping to Korcula, Vis, Hvar and Brac with the Jadrolinija ferry company. We discuss how each island and town has its own personality that makes this a perfect country to tour by land or boat.Deirdre also tells us how Croatia has become a hugely popular destination for festivals including the Love International Festival in Tisno. We cover a lot of ground, so this is the perfect introduction to Croatia if you are trying to decide where to visit next in this wonderful country full of history, culture and the most gorgeous water to swim or just chill by. Welcome back to another episode of Fratello On Air. We've been on hiatus for the last month during the summer, but we're back in action! In this installment, we detail some of the places we've been and what we've seen. Cars and watches have been high on the list!Yes, it's been a while, but we're back together. This week's podcast is primarily about cars and watches at events in major cities. Next episode, we'll be back with a more hardcore topic, which will likely cover one of our listener suggestions. For now, settle in as we recall our travels and experiences.HandgelenkskontrolleBefore we get into watches, we begin our discussion about Ferrari's latest reveal. The 849 Testarossa is already proving to be controversial. It sparks a conversation about the difference between comments in social media about cars and watches. Regarding television, we discuss Mobland, Only Murders In The Building, Dexter: Resurrection, and The Sopranos. Then, Balazs mentions the recent sale of a Michael Jordan / Kobe Bryant basketball card that set a record at $12.9 million! For the Handgelenkskontrolle, Balazs is wearing the new Albishorn 1958 Marinagraph Paraíba Racing. Stay tuned for an upcoming hands-on review. Mike is wearing his Seiko SLA019, a 2018 release that marked the first ceramic bezel and sapphire crystal for the beloved Marinemaster 300.Watches and carsWe kick off our main topic on recent travels that included cars and watches with a recap of Geneva Watch Days. Sadly, Balazs didn't attend, but the releases were well-covered. Overall, the mood was somber because of the US tariff scenario. Brands were questioning the need and the expense related to two shows. The reveals were positive, especially from the smaller brands, but it was a quieter show overall despite more brands in attendance. Next, we discuss the 2025 Balkan Rally, which Balazs attended. The event kicked off in Budapest and ended five days later in Dubrovnik. Classic cars and watches were all part of the festivities. Finally, we head back to London, where Mike attended the Concours of Elegance hosted by A. Lange & Söhne. Once again, several of the attendees wore intriguing watches, but the cars were incredible. Of note was a lovely Singer Porsche. It was the first time Mike saw one in person, which followed his first visit to the Singer Reimagined headquarters in Geneva just two days earlier. We hope you enjoyed our return to the airwaves, and we look forward to coming back regularly. As always, if you have ideas for future shows, feel free to let us know.
Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

We end our tour in the UNESCO walled city of Dubrovnik - it's a magical vacation! Located on the Adriatic Sea in the southernmost part of Croatia is the city of Dubrovnik. Founded in the 7th century, it rose in prominence and became one of the leading city-states in Europe. It was a major competitor with Venice in the region and had complicated relations with both the Byzantine and Ottoman Empires. It was the site of one of the most brutal sieges in post-WWII Europe, and today it has become one of the top tourist destinations in the world. As Yugoslavia began to break down, the Balkans conflict began - a series of brutal wars characterised by disputes over territory, identity, and ethnic divisions. In 1991, the Croatian War of Independence started – the first of the major wars. One of its defining moments came in October, when the Yugoslav People's Army advanced on the south of the country leading to the Siege of Dubrovnik. One of the Yugoslav People's Army commanders in the region was Rear Admiral Krsto Đurović, a Montenegrin who had spent his life working in Croatia, married a Croatian and planned to retire to the country. Attacking Dubrovnik was unthinkable for the Rear Admiral, and he promised the city's major: “As long as I am the commander, not a single shell will fall on Dubrovnik."Shortly afterwards he was killed in a suspicious helicopter crash – his superiors claimed he was shot down, but there were no opposition forces in the area, and Croatian officials denied any part in the crash. There was never an autopsy and no military investigation. Soon after, Miodrag Jokic was appointed Đurović's replacement, and a vicious bombing campaign began which would later see Jokic convicted of war crimes. Johnny I'Anson speaks to Montenegrin journalist Veseljko Koprivica, and documentary maker Mladen Ivanovic who say Rear Admiral Đurović's refusal to bomb Dubrovnik may have led to his untimely death.
