A full show this week as we put the spotlight on The Open as it returns after it was cancelled in 2020. Lots of chatter about the week that was and what we can expect of the 149th Open Championship at Royal St Georges. We draft players, take a tour through the storylines we want and don't want to see, and give you some bets to consider. The Mail Bag questions are all about The Open, and in the Tip of the Week we help you be a better iron player through a subtle change in the timing of your swing. Our feature guest is Ru MacDonald, the Social Media Content Manager for the European Tour, who joins us from Royal St Georges for some perspective on the course and the European Tour players we need to watch for. He also puts on his Scottish Golf Podcast hat as we talk about the expected upcoming surge in golf travel. *Ru MacDonald * Twitter (https://twitter.com/rumacdonald?lang=en) *Instagram: TeeTalkPodcast (https://www.instagram.com/teetalkpodcast/) Flagstick (https://www.instagram.com/flagstickgolf/) Scott (https://www.instagram.com/scotmac1970/) Stefan (https://www.instagram.com/steedorf/) Twitter: Flagstick (https://twitter.com/Flagstick) Scott (https://twitter.com/ScotMacGolf) Stefan (https://twitter.com/Steedorf) Facebook: @Flagstick (https://www.facebook.com/Flagstick/) Episode production by Brendan Kennedy LinkedIn (https://www.linkedin.com/in/brendankennedyfoh/) Twitter (https://twitter.com/brendankennedy_)
In the early days of golf podcasting, Ru Macdonald was one of the first hosts to take a deep dive into the courses of Scotland. His show, The Scottish Golf Podcast became an important outlet for those like me who were looking to learn more about the many lesser known golf options in the game's native land. The stories he shared in those show helped to spark a whole new wave of appreciation for Scotland's hidden gem links courses. Today, Macdonald is using those same storytelling skills to help the European Tour develop widely viewed content for their social media channels. I've been a big fan of Macdonald's work for years and his podcast is one of the main reasons for my Scottish golf obsession. Although I still haven't had a chance to hop over the pond for a visit yet, I like to stay in touch with him for when I eventually pull that trigger. Macdonald and I got the chance to catch up for a lengthy chat as he was taking a break from a long day of work at the 2021 Scottish Open. Chatting from his hotel room in the COVID19 protocol bubble, Macdonald and I discussed the current state of golf in Scotland, how the travel industry there is poised for a big comeback in 2022, and of course what his world is like right now helping create viral content for the European tour. It was great to speak with Macdonald during the middle of one of the tour's biggest events. I'll be watching the Scottish Open closely and keeping an eye out for the content he's creating around the event. I'm sure it will only worsen my desire to travel to Scotland and see their links first hand. If you haven't listened to the Scottish Golf Podcast before, be sure to go and subscribe as Macdonald is still producing great episodes there. Also, be sure to follow him on twitter at @RuMacdonald . Our first amateur guest is none other than the North East's own Ruairidh MacDonald. The passionate Links traditionalist that he is, joins us to discuss Golf within the North East area and how working in Tourism started his journey within the game. (2:34) Ruairidh highlights what to look out for when booking a Golfing Holiday to the area and common mistakes groups make when considering courses and scheduling of rounds. (5:40) Ruairidh is also fortunate enough to work for the European Tour Social Media Team. Both he and the team work hard to provide the great content we would frequently enjoy online whilst not consider the efforts that are put in behind the scenes. As golf fans we appreciate the work Ruairidh brings us, not only giving us insight into the Tournaments being played but the Players themselves affiliated with the Tour. (11:00) David spots a moment to discuss his man crush on Henrick Stenson and wants to know, if he is as much of a practical joker in real life as he is on social media. (12:30) Ruairidh also paved the way many years ago, by starting the Scottish Golf Podcast and discusses how this started and has developed over the last year or so. (15:57) How will Ruairidh do in this 9 Hole Challenge as our first amateur guest? Enjoy some fantastic stories from his time travelling with the game.
