342 – Bad motives versus good motivesHave you ever kept making the same mistakes and committing the same sin, even though you've tried to stop? You've tried to do what's right but you keep slipping back into old patterns of thinking and acting.Sometimes, trying to change one behavior by a different behavior doesn't really get at the root of the problem. We need to go a little deeper and deal with the mental and spiritual motives, with our thinking, to consistently do what's right. The world says you don't have what you need and you have break God's commandments to get it. But Jesus said the kingdom of heaven is at hand, where you already have everything you need.∞∞∞∞∞∞∞SHOW NOTES: Full transcript at thebiblespeakstoyou.com/342Text me your questions or comments.Support the showIf you enjoy the podcast, please rate and leave a review on Apple Podcasts or Spotify__________________James Early, the Jesus Mindset Coach, is a Bible teacher, speaker, and podcaster. Message us here!A headline never tells the whole story, and the movie "Rosemead" refuses to let us look away. In this episode, star of "Rosemead," Lawrence Shou, unpacks a true-story-inspired film about a Chinese immigrant mother (played by Lucy Liu), a teenage son named Joe (Shou) navigating schizophrenia, and the quiet heartbreak that unfolds when love collides with stigma and a patchwork mental health system. Lawrence brings us inside his process of weeks of research, clinician interviews, and on-set practices that made his performance so hauntingly real. Our conversation traces how psychosis actually presents: not just shouting or destruction, but blankness, withdrawal, and a mind overloaded by grief and fear. Lawrence explains how Joe's symptoms are shaped by trauma and context, including anxiety about mass shootings and the loss of his father. We talk about cultural pressures in immigrant families: why silence can feel safer than asking for help and how that silence magnifies risk. Lawrence shares how reframing treatment as a path to agency, combined with psychoeducation and community support, can make a tangible difference for families who are exhausted and scared. If you've ever wondered what schizophrenia looks like up close, how to avoid snap judgments, or how to show up when someone you love is slipping away, this episode is for you."Rosemead" is out in theaters January 9th. Go see it to join the conversation on how we're failing marginalized families with mental illness.Resources:Connect to Lawrence on IG: @lawrenceshouStay updated on Rosemead through IG: @rosemeadfilmSupport the showIf you're navigating someone's mental health or emotional issues, join KulaMind, our community and support platform. 341 – What are your hopes for 2026? Who do you want to be?At the beginning of a new year a lot of people set goals and make resolutions of what they want to accomplish or stop doing during the next 12 months. The focus is usually on achievements and results, changing behavior, establishing new habits, things like that.Other people like to pick out a phrase or a word as a theme for the year. But a lot of folks I know have trouble keeping their resolutions and their theme for the year because they're just thinking about getting different results. The real solution to being successful is to focus, not on what you want to do, but on becoming the kind of person you want to be. And that's what we're talking about on today's episode:To do what you want to, you first have to be who you want to beDiscovering who you already are as the image and likeness of GodWhen you know who you are as God's image, you'll do amazing things as the image of God So, how do you see yourself? Let's ask it this way: How would you like to be able to see yourself? Who do you want to be? Or better yet, how does God see you?∞∞∞∞∞∞∞Previous episode mentioned: Episode 297: Always Remember Who You Are SHOW NOTES: Full transcript and Bible quotes--thebiblespeakstoyou.com/341 Text me your questions or comments.Support the showIf you enjoy the podcast, please rate and leave a review on Apple Podcasts or Spotify__________________James Early, the Jesus Mindset Coach, is a Bible teacher, speaker, and podcaster. Sexier Than A Squirrel: Dog Training That Gets Real Life Results
Send us a textHolidays shouldn't feel like a gauntlet of barking, lunging, and white-knuckle car rides. We dig into the real reasons dogs struggle when routines change and show how a clear plan, games-based training, and smart logistics turn stressful trips into confident adventures. From the first few minutes at a new training centre to that important “second time in” when food finally starts to matter, we break down simple steps that lower arousal and build focus where it counts. We walk through transport challenges with options for every situation—train routes and easy taxi hops, supportive pick-ups, and the comfort of dog-friendly cottages right on site. If your dog hates the car, you'll get a practical progression: feed near the vehicle, reinforce calm in the parked car, introduce engine noise, and layer in tiny drives. We add body-confidence games like wobble boards and skateboards to help motion-sensitive dogs learn that movement can be predictable and safe. Safety gets its own spotlight: crates, fitted bedding, secure harnessing, and daily short trips that make travel normal instead of a big event.Hands-on coaching can reveal what video misses. Subtle tells—shoulders dropping, weight shifts, scanning—guide the choice of games that change behaviour fast. We share real cases, including a reactive collie whose “big show” was really uncertainty, and how giving her a clear job flipped the script. Food logistics are solvable too: arrange raw deliveries from local suppliers, stock high-value rewards, and use your cottage as a training lab to rehearse visitor protocols and calm settles that transfer home.Whether you're travelling with a reactive Frenchie or flying in to sharpen your skills with a demo dog, the theme is possibility. Age isn't a barrier, and neither is past struggle. Want to make your next trip easier? Start small, stack the wins, and build momentum. Bhutan Series w/ Breathe Bhutan - A Conversation with Ugyen Rinzin - Bhutan's History, Buddhism Basics + Modern Bhutanese Culture In this opening episode of my Bhutan Series, I sit down for a deep, thoughtful conversation with Ugyen Rinzin, a Bhutanese local from Paro, to explore the heart and soul of one of the world's most fascinating countries.Recorded in Thimphu, Bhutan, this episode is a beginner-friendly introduction to Bhutan's history, Buddhist philosophy, and modern Bhutanese culture, told through the lived experience of someone who grew up before television and the internet arrived in the country. We unpack what makes Bhutan so unique — from its deep-rooted connection to Buddhism, its people-first philosophy, and the idea of Gross National Happiness, to how the younger generation is navigating a rapidly changing world. If you've ever wondered:What is Bhutan really like? How does Buddhism shape everyday life in Bhutan? Why is Bhutan considered one of the most meaningful travel destinations on Earth?— this episode is the perfect place to start.Across the Bhutan Series, you'll hear:Conversations with local Bhutanese voicesImmersive episodes on hiking, culture, food, and daily lifeSolo breakdowns explaining how travel in Bhutan actually worksThis is not just a travel podcast episode — it's an invitation to slow down, listen, and understand Bhutan on a deeper level.
January often invites us to push harder, fix ourselves, or finally “get it right.” But for the neurodivergent brain and nervous system, real change requires a very different starting point. In this opening episode of our January series, Ashley Bentley introduces a compassionate, neuroscience-informed framework for breakthrough inspired by Tony Robbins' work and refined through years of therapeutic practice. You'll discover why lasting change doesn't begin with strategy, willpower, or self-criticism — but with your inner state, your nervous system, and the stories you're living inside. This episode gently reframes breakthrough as a learnable process, one that works with your sensitivity, depth, and pattern-recognition rather than against it.The episode closes with a richly immersive guided meditation designed to help your system soften, settle, and prepare the ground for meaningful change. This is the beginning of a different kind of January — one rooted in safety, self-trust, and real transformation.❤️ Support the ShowIf this episode resonated with you:✅ Follow or Subscribe to The Neurodivergent Experience⭐ Leave a quick review on Apple Podcasts or Spotify

Dr. Knight helps us unpack why these patterns persist, how they harm individuals and fracture the idea of ummah, and what accountability, healing, and allyship can look like moving forward. Sam talks to Jean van de Velde about his career in the game, which began as a six-year-old in Mont-de-Marsan, in the Pyrenees in south-west France. Growing up in the era of persimmon drivers and balata balls, Jean turned professional in 1987 and went on to compete at the highest level of the game for several decades. He is perhaps best known for his performance at the 1999 Open Championship at Carnoustie, where he slept on a five-shot lead going into the final round.Jean has also been involved in the administration of the game and was instrumental in bringing The Ryder Cup to France in 2018.A huge thank you to Jean for his time on the podcast. The War of 1812 wasn't sailors' rights — it was empire.Think you know why the War of 1812 started? Most people believe it was all about the Royal Navy “pressing” innocent American sailors. Historian Matt Taylor calls nonsense on that myth – and reveals how the real story is far darker, and far more explosive.Paul Bavill is joined by Matt Taylor, author of Black Redcoats, to uncover the hidden narratives of the War of 1812. From the forgotten African Americans who fought for Britain to the political smokescreens that dragged America into war, Matt shatters the schoolbook version of this conflict.Highlights include:The Real Cause of War – Forget sailors' rights: the United States launched the war as an imperialist grab for territory, land, and dominance over Native Americans.Black Redcoats & the Colonial Marines – Enslaved African Americans who escaped to British lines were armed, uniformed, and helped tear apart America's defenses. Their presence led directly to the collapse at Bladensburg and the burning of Washington. The Psychological Bombshell – Fear of slave uprisings paralysed militias, making the Chesapeake campaigns devastatingly effective.Aftermath & Legacy – From the unique “company villages” in Trinidad that still survive today, to the tragic destruction of Negro Fort in Florida, the legacy of the Black Redcoats still reverberates. The Human Story – Meet Fernando, enslaved, freed, re-enslaved by Andrew Jackson, and finally liberated – choosing to carry the name of the British officer who once commanded him. This episode doesn't just retell history – it rips apart comfortable myths and shows how race, freedom, and empire collided in ways that shaped nations. If you want history with bite, this is it.

Message us here!Well, 2025 is almost over and by all accounts, it was one of the hardest for mental health across America. The past year felt like emotional sandpaper: unstable jobs, AI anxiety, and a constant stream of obligations that made even simple days feel crowded. Beneath all that noise, a quieter force did much of the damage: loneliness. In this episode, Dr. Kibby unpacks why January often hits hardest after the holidays, why being surrounded by people can still feel empty, and how one-way relationships quietly burn us out.Dr. Kibby discusses a candid look at over-giving, how being so focused on other people can lead to a sneaky sense of loneliness. She breaks loneliness into three solvable parts: 1. Building real emotional support, 2. Being seen for who we really are, and 3. Restoring reciprocity so care flows both ways. She also talks about finding community where you might not expect it. If your local circle doesn't yet hold the parts of you that crave air, that's a bridge, not a dead end. The goal isn't more social plans; it's richer resonance. By focusing on one small habit each week (one ask, one honest share, one reciprocal ritual) you can turn the quiet of January into a reset for connection.Happy new year, Little Helpers. Sexier Than A Squirrel: Dog Training That Gets Real Life Results
Send us a textWhat if the keys to calmer, clearer dog training are hiding in a muddy field at dawn?In this episode, we sit down with a farm-animal vet who swapped spotless theatres for open skies and on-call chaos. She walks us through the reality of rural practice - live calves at sunrise, emergency lambings, tea-stop triage, and the quiet skill of handling animals without force or fear. From those stories come the lessons every dog owner needs: • How reading body language becomes second nature • Why space is a cue and how stepping ahead or behind a shoulder can turn movement on like a switch • How pen size, positioning, and calm energy make handling safer and more effective • Why one well-trained dog can steady nervous sheep better than three people • How preparation and restraint change outcomes - whether it's a surgical success or the weight of a loss under anaesthesiaThen we connect the dots.Reluctant horses become blueprints for confidence games. Herding principles translate directly into agility handling, leash work, recall, and settling in busy environments. Working collies, kelpies, and huntaways show what clarity, timing, and resilience look like in motion and how the same principles transform everyday pet training.By the end, you'll understand why “stock sense” isn't just for farmers. It's a universal animal language - one that takes the chaos out of training and replaces it with calm, connection, and confidence. If this sparks ideas for your own training, share the episode, hit follow, and drop a quick review.Support the showIf you're loving the podcast, you'll love our NEW Sexier than a Squirrel Dog Training Challenge even more! Ep 192 w/ Melissa Rodway (Fly Travel Radio) - The People You Meet While Travelling: Melissa on Stories, Meaning & Modern TravelIn this episode of the Winging It Travel Podcast, I'm joined by fellow traveller, podcaster, and author Melissa Rodway for a deep, honest, and refreshingly real conversation about travel, purpose, and why simply “wandering” isn't always enough anymore.Melissa shares how her early travels — including growing up in Australia, moving across Canada, and later long-term adventures — shaped her outlook on life. We talk about why travel doesn't magically fix everything, how purpose can completely change the way you experience a place, and what happens when the romantic idea of endless travel meets real life, work, and money. We also dive into:Why having a reason to travel matters more as you get olderThe myth that travel automatically transforms youHow Melissa's book The People You Meet was born from long bus rides and storytellingGroup travel vs solo travel — and why both still matterWhy freedom is such a powerful (and addictive) part of travelHow travel changes your relationship with yourself, not just the worldThis is an episode for travellers who've felt restless on the road, questioned the “quit your job and go” narrative, or wondered how to keep travel meaningful long-term. As the year draws to a close, many of us feel the pull toward change - resolutions, goals, and the quiet pressure to become someone “better” next year. But what if real change begins with meeting yourself differently? In this final Mindful Monday of the year, Ashley Bentley explores why self-acceptance - not self-criticism - is the true foundation for lasting transformation. Through grounded psychology, gentle neuroscience, and the wisdom of Ram Dass, this episode invites you to step out of self-judgement and into appreciation for your full humanity. You'll hear why New Year's resolutions so often fail, how the neurodivergent nervous system responds to pressure and demand, and why acceptance is not giving up - but creating the conditions where change becomes possible. The episode closes with a deeply nourishing loving-kindness (metta) meditation, offering compassion and care to all parts of you - the seen and unseen, the strong and the tender - just as you are. This is an invitation to end the year softly, and to begin again from a place of kindness, honesty, and self-respect.❤️ Support the ShowIf this episode resonated with you:✅ Follow or Subscribe to The Neurodivergent Experience⭐ Leave a quick review on Apple Podcasts or Spotify
In this episode, we sit down with Dr. Amina Knight for an honest and necessary conversation about racism within the Muslim community. We explore how racial bias and colorism show up in our masājid, families, institutions, and online spaces — often quietly, sometimes painfully. Dr. Knight helps us unpack why these patterns persist, how they harm individuals and fracture the idea of ummah, and what accountability, healing, and allyship can look like moving forward. This episode is an invitation to reflect, listen deeply, and begin doing the work our faith already calls us to.Text to get in touch!Support the showIf you enjoyed this episode, subscribe and share! A San Francisco woman on her way to the University of California, San Francisco Medical Center unexpectedly gave birth inside a Waymo autonomous taxi after it detected “unusual activity” and contacted emergency services. The robotaxi continued to the hospital, arriving before first responders, and both mother and baby were safely brought inside. In this episode, we explore this rare real-world moment at the intersection of life and emerging transportation technology — and what it suggests about trust, autonomy, and the evolving role of self-driving vehicles in everyday life. 338 - It's Freedom FridayHow often to you compare yourself with others? How's that workin' for you?One of the things I've really had to work at over the years is not to compare myself with others. When I've seen someone who is more successful, is smarter, stronger, better looking than me, it's easy to feel inferior to them. I've felt guilty I didn't work as hard as they did, or maybe I tried but didn't succeed like they did and it adds to the guilt of feeling I'm not good enough. And sometimes I've compared the mistakes I've made in life and the sins I've committed to what other people have done and it usually paralyzes me from going forward with my life.Comparing yourself to others is rarely a good idea and usually prevents you from making progress in your own life. There's a simple way to stop comparing yourself to others. And that's what we're talking about on this episode of Freedom Fridays.∞∞∞∞∞∞∞SHOW NOTES: Read the full transcript of this episode at thebiblespeakstoyou.com/338Text me your questions or comments.Support the showIf you enjoy the podcast, please rate and leave a review on Apple Podcasts or Spotify__________________James Early, the Jesus Mindset Coach, is a Bible teacher, speaker, and podcaster. In this Hot Topic episode of The Neurodivergent Experience, Jordan James and Simon Scott examine how age limits, apprenticeships, and “youth-focused” career pathways quietly exclude neurodivergent adults — particularly those diagnosed later in life or whose paths didn't follow a linear timeline. They explore why these systems penalise late bloomers, how autistic and ADHD people are expected to “get it right” the first time despite growing up unsupported or misunderstood, and why burnout, delayed development, and real-world capacity are so often ignored in favour of rigid age-based judgments. They discuss:Apprenticeship age limits and youth-only career schemesLate diagnosis and delayed life milestonesWhy neurodivergent development isn't linearBurnout, missed opportunities, and starting again later in lifeWhy inclusion must account for neurodivergent timelinesA grounded, validating conversation about work, access, and why it's never “too late” — even when systems pretend it is.Our Sponsors:
Message us here!Ever felt like your worth depends on how useful you are to other people? Turning the big 4-0 pushed me to confront a lifelong habit of people pleasing. In this episode, I talk about people pleasing: how it took root in chaos, hid behind “being nice,” and quietly drained my energy, confidence, and joy. I unpack what research says about what "people pleasing" is, how chronic pleasing links to mental health issues, and why so many of us end up orbiting charismatic "takers" who love the spotlight while we shrink to keep them happy.I dig into the "Echo- Narcissus Syndrome": the dynamic between a people-pleaser and a narcissist. I talk about my own tendency to fall into the Echo-Narcissus Syndrome and how it's destroyed my relationships in the past. Then I walk through the practical, evidence-based strategies for breaking free of this syndrome. I'm learning to receiving without guilt, choosing mutual relationships over one-way giving, and navigating holiday pressures without abandoning myself. If you also find yourself falling into toxic dynamics where you give and give and give while losing yourself, then this episode is for you. Together, we can figure out how to honor our empathy & generosity without feeling used. Resources:Moral-Jiménez, M. D. L. V., & Mena-Baumann, A. (2024). 337 – Let the light of Christmas shine brightOne of the major themes at Christmas time is the light of Christ shining into a dark world. In fact the Christmas story has all kinds of light in it. There's the star that appears to the Wisemen from the East. There's the glory of God shining on the shepherds as the angels talk to them. And most important of all is the birth of Jesus, who came as the Light of the world. But Jesus didn't come just for us to be passive recipients of his light. He wanted us to follow his example of bringing light to the darkness of fear, disease, despair, and sin. He even said we are also the light of the world. And that's what this episode is about, being the light and letting your light shine out into the darkness this Christmas, and beyond. ∞∞∞∞∞∞∞SHOW NOTES: For a full transcript and Bible quotes, go to thebiblespeakstoyou.com/337Spotify Christmas PlaylistText me your questions or comments.Support the showIf you enjoy the podcast, please rate and leave a review on Apple Podcasts or Spotify__________________James Early, the Jesus Mindset Coach, is a Bible teacher, speaker, and podcaster.
