We're just days away from both the Futures Game and the Draft and Jim Callis, Jonathan Mayo and Jason Ratliff can hardly contain their excitement on this week's MLB Pipeline Podcast. They kick things off by diving in to a number of Draft storylines, from what might happen at the very top of the Draft to two sets of twins (the Parkers and the Witherspoons) set to be drafted, and much more. Then Jim chats with high school lefty flame-thrower Jack Bauer before the guys shift gears to talk Futures Game in their annual batting practice home run derby draft. They finish things off with a Mailbag question about how accurate Jim and Jonathan think their final mock drafts will be. Episode 95: Sinners This week on Philosophy in Film, the gang steps into the blood-soaked confessional of Ryan Coogler's 2025 thriller, Sinners. Nestled in the indie-crime-vampire-redemption-gangster genre, the film follows Eli Morgan, a disgraced pastor-turned-defense attorney, as he's pulled into the moral murk of faith, failure, and a client who might not be entirely human. Craig hacks away at Producer's Notes (9:37) with only slight collateral damage, while Alain cracks open the Book of Beauclair (21:04) to lay out Eli's twilight descent. Chris then lights a candle for Philosopher's Corner (47:20), tuning into the film's musical language, where brooding jazz and sacred overtones echo themes of guilt, redemption, and longing. At the Round Table (53:10), the gang debates whether Sinners bites into something meaningful or just bares its fangs, before Reviews (1:43:22) and Mailbag (1:55:35) offer closing testimony from the congregation. As always, we reflect on the philosophical and non-philosophical burdens carried through the film's long dark night, because even the damned listen close.
Max Laughton, Ben Waterworth and Will Faulkner review Round 17 and preview Round 18 of the 2025 AFL season on the Fox Footy Podcast, with breakdowns of the state of the finals race and the AFL's idea for a mid-season tournament, plus Fair or Farce, the Mailbag, Sheeds' Wisdom and much more.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In today's episode of Backpacker Radio, presented by The Trek, brought to you by LMNT, we are joined by Leah Harman, known on trail as Twig. Although Twig is relatively new to the world of thru-hiking, with less than 10 years of experience, she's hit the ground running, accruing well over 10,000 miles in the process. In addition to all the usual suspects, triple crown trails, Colorado Trail, TA, Arizona Trail…Twig has also completed a number of lesser known trails, including the Mogollon Rim Trail, Bigfoot Trail, and a Desert Winter Thru-Hike from Tucson to San Diego. We of course learn all about these treks, why cows are the most dangerous animal on trail, and how she makes her perpetual hiker trash lifestyle work. Leah also recounts her past life living and working aboard ships, confirming that all the stereotypes about drunk and horny sailors are, in fact, hilariously accurate, complete with some entertaining hazing stories. We wrap the show with news of a group who trusted ChatGPT to plan their hike, and how that went terribly wrong, Chaunce details the stress associated with planning a wedding, and the triple crown of movie/tv shows that broke us. Indiana basketball fans got a couple pieces of legit offseason news with the release of the non-conference schedule and the program's first recruiting commitment under Darren DeVries. This edition of Assembly Call Radio, with hosts Coach Tonsoni, Ryan Phillips, and Andy Bottoms, breaks down what these developments mean for the new era of Hoosier basketball.Segment 1: Hoosier Headlines [00:00:00 - 00:29:59]After months of roster construction and staff building, the schedule release brings fans one step closer to seeing if DeVries' vision can translate to wins on the court. The big news is Prince Alexander Moody's commitment - the program's first 2026 recruit who represents the "DeVries prototype": a 6'4" shooting guard who fits the system's emphasis on floor spacing and shooting ability. Other headlines covered include the completion of DeVries' coaching staff, Anthony Leal's denied waiver appeal (ending his college career), and the mic'd-up practice videos showing coaches emphasizing fundamentals like ball pressure defense and proper spacing. The segment closes with a heartfelt thank you to Leal for his contributions to the program.Segment 2: Non-Conference Schedule Analysis [00:30:00 - 00:54:59]The hosts break down Indiana's 11-game non-conference slate, identifying four major tests surrounded by seven more manageable opponents. The marquee games include:November 9th vs Marquette (Chicago) - Early season test against a well-coached programDecember 6th vs Louisville (Indianapolis) - Neutral site against a top-20 preseason teamDecember 13th at Kentucky - The big one everyone's been waiting for, back at Rupp ArenaNovember 25th vs Kansas State (home) - Protecting Assembly Hall against a Big 12 opponentBoth hosts project a 9-2 non-conference record, with the Kentucky road game being the most difficult challenge. They praise the regional appeal of the schedule, giving fans concrete games to look forward to attending or watching. The conversation includes early bracketology implications and how this schedule sets up better than previous years' efforts.Segment 3: Mailbag [00:55:00 - 01:37:02]The final segment tackles listener questions about overall record predictions and the challenge of connecting with an almost entirely new roster. The hosts project an 11-9 Big Ten record (20-11 overall), which should be good enough for tournament consideration.A thoughtful discussion emerges around a fan's question about feeling disconnected from the program due to constant roster turnover. The hosts acknowledge this is a real challenge in the transfer portal era and share their own strategies for dealing with it - focusing on the style of play rather than individual players, and waiting until the season starts to really invest emotionally in the roster.Jerod Morris joins late in the segment to add his perspective on the changing nature of college basketball fandom and how the off-season feels different now with so much roster uncertainty.Plus, as always, thoughts on staff completion, the challenge of maintaining fan engagement in college basketball's new landscape, and early excitement about a different brand of basketball coming to Assembly Hall. That's all in this edition of The Assembly Call.On the mics: Coach Brian Tonsoni, Ryan Phillips, Andy Bottoms, and Jerod MorrisSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

With Strange New Worlds boldly going where no one has gone before, rumors are swirling that co-creator Akiva Goldsman wants to continue where The Original Series left off. But what would that actually look like?On this week's episode of Strange New Pod, the crew breaks down what we'd want — and not want — from a potential TOS continuation. Would it take place before “The Man Trap”? After “Turnabout Intruder”? Could it even pick up post-The Motion Picture? And what about the characters we haven't seen yet in SNW, like Bones, Sulu, Chekov, and Yeoman Rand? We talk casting, timeline possibilities, tone, and where a new series like this could, and should, fit into Trek canon. Plus, your thoughts in the Mailbag!Send us a textSupport the show

In today's episode of Backpacker Radio, presented by The Trek, we're joined by Whitney La Ruffa, better known in the world of backpacking as “Allgood.” Allgood is the former president of ALDHA-West, the current Chief Revenue Officer at FarOut, and a certified backpacking OG—his first thru-hike dates all the way back to the early '90s (some of you weren't even alive then… which is weird). Since that first trek, Allgood has racked up an impressive list of trails, including the JMT, Wonderland Trail, Chinook Trail, Sierra High Route, PCT, CDT, and others. In this episode, we dive into stories from his countless miles on trail, his passion for backpacking food—he's a bona fide backcountry chef, as evidenced by him freeze drying his own meals—and he spills the beans on some of his favorite trail-tested recipes. We also chat about how a chance encounter on the AT led him to adopt his dog, Erwin, and how Erwin has deepened his love for dogs in general. Beyond the trail, we get Allgood's take on how backpacking has evolved since the 1990s, hear a heartfelt update on the health of former guest and beloved trail icon Renee "She-ra" Patrick, and unpack some of the recent bumps in the road for FarOut. We wrap the show with how Damascus has bounced back in the wake of Hurricane Helene, if animals could talk, which species would be the most annoying, and the triple crown of states we'd draft in a civil war.
