Dungeons & Dragons 2 has a finished script, and the studio that made the first one already passed on it. Avengers Doomsday is deep in edits, the Russo brothers just called their script a living organism, and everyone lost their minds about it. The Pokémon Center on site required a timed booking through a site that crashed, the second merch area turned out to be reseller tables selling singles for hundreds, and Squeaks walked out having spent twenty dollars and bought his Worlds backpack online later at roughly four times the price. Next year's Worlds moves to Singapore, so US fans have no idea when it comes back. The Samurai Redneck Zombie Killer started as a title and a cover. Kit Wallis brought Allen the name and the first five pages, posted the cover to Instagram, and the response was so far outside his normal engagement that they fast tracked the whole book. It beat Comic Soup's previous best campaign total in a single day. Allen and Kit built the book around two people instead of a community, borrowing the Leon and Mathilda dynamic from The Professional, right down to naming the samurai Lee. The art uses a manga inspired color scheme with the first five pages in full color before shifting to black, white, and splashes of red. Paramount Skydance passed on Dungeons & Dragons 2 as financially unviable, but Hasbro is shopping it. Honor Among Thieves earned around $205 million on a roughly $150 million budget split with Hasbro's E1, opened four days before The Super Mario Bros. Movie, landed a month after the OGL boycott, and never told non fans it was a family comedy. The Avengers Doomsday improv worry is overblown. The Russos worked the same way on Infinity War and Endgame, their visual reference is Once Upon a Time in the West, and Robert Downey Jr. said he would not have come back without them. Improv on a movie this size gets spent on one on one character scenes, not on Sentinels and VFX plates. Jim Cummings and Terry McGovern are both being recast in the Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg Darkwing Duck reboot, seven years after Cummings recorded the pilot that got it greenlit. The 2017 DuckTales storyline he voiced was about an actor destroyed by a Darkwing Duck recast. Gargoyles' live action version is dead but the animated one is alive, Hey Arnold is in conversations, an adult Doug has concept art out, and King of the Hill is the template everyone is pointing to. Do you call timeout? Before the topic, the guys catch up. Coach Bill and Coach Collins have only met face to face three times in three years, most recently in Calistoga for what they are calling Coach Collins' launch party into full time entrepreneurial life rather than a retirement party. Nobody is going to find him in a rocking chair on the front stoop. Youth basketball is not high school or college. Depending on the tournament you might have one, two, or four timeouts for an entire game. In a typical four timeout tournament you get two per half, they do not carry over, and if you sit on the first two they are simply gone. Use them or lose them. Tournaments are built to keep games moving, especially with twenty minute running halves, which means every timeout you spend is a real decision. The golden rule both coaches keep circling back to is roughly six points. That is the point where most coaches feel the pull to stop and regroup. But the real answer is that it depends on your team, and Coach Bill's advice is to decide that number before the game, not during it. Ask yourself honestly: can this group come back from twelve down? If the answer is yes, you have room to let things breathe. If you are down twenty seven, a timeout is not saving anything. Coach Bill scouted an opponent from the bleachers before tipoff. Bigger than his team, but he liked his ball handling, speed, and aggressiveness. He felt good. Then his team went down six to nothing in under two minutes on shots that had no business going in, and he admits he started to panic. What saved him was an assistant coach, one of the dads he respects, sitting next to him saying "we've got this, let's not panic yet." He never called the timeout. The other coach did. Coach Bill used that stoppage to deliver one calm, stern message: turn up the defense, you are falling back, we are better than this. That team scored eight points the rest of the game. Coach Collins raises the nuance that changes everything: how you use timeouts depends on where you think the game is headed. A sixty forty game gets one approach. A ninety ten game where you are overmatched gets another, because now the timeout is not tactical, it is about rebuilding confidence. At the youth level you often do not know the team you are facing, which makes that read harder and the pregame scout more valuable. This is the best practical idea in the episode. Instead of calling a hard timeout to stop the bleeding, Coach Bill works the substitutions. He pulls two or three struggling players, gives them instructions on the sideline, and sends some of them right back in within thirty seconds. To the player, that is a timeout. To the coach, it costs nothing. He calls it giving the player a timeout instead of giving the team one. The other version of this is running clock management. Coach Bill's girls literally practice working the clock. When they have the lead late, shoelaces mysteriously come untied, particularly on the player taking the ball out of bounds. They also have stall modes ready. All of it slows momentum without spending a stoppage. Coach Bill's firm rule: in a close game, save a timeout for the final two minutes. Always. He would rather never use it than need it and not have it. In a tournament earlier this season he called one with thirty seconds left to walk his team through exactly what to do to close out the win, and it mattered. Two other notes on that rule. If the game is not close, he rarely uses timeouts at all. And if he is down to five or six available players and they are gassed, he will spend one to get them air. Does calling a late timeout also help the other coach draw something up? Both agree they do not worry much about it. If you can teach more in that huddle than they can, the timeout is an advantage for you. Coach Collins mentions the late game situation document he built during his high school years, a sheet his assistants treated as gospel on the sideline, though it had to be translated for AAU tournaments where the timeout counts are different. Know how many timeouts you actually have. Decide before tipoff what size run forces your hand. Use substitutions, shoelaces, and stall sets to slow momentum for free. And on a tight game, save one for the last two minutes, every time. Or as Coach Collins put it: sometimes you just have to get the tourniquet on and stop the bleeding. Alliance Tournaments were supposed to return improved. Instead, Star Trek Fleet Command got another disaster. In this episode of Talking Trek, DJz reconstructs exactly what happened during the August 10 Alliance Tournament rerun, beginning with the conversations that happened before launch and the problems Scopely believed it had fixed. Within minutes of the event beginning, severe lag returned and players discovered an entirely new issue where Alliance Tournament task groups began blending together. High-value tasks disappeared, rerolls appeared to progressively downgrade task options, and some alliances were eventually left staring at boards filled almost entirely with low-value tasks. But the biggest failure of the day may not have been technical. We examine the lack of official communication while the problem unfolded, Scopely's eventual declaration that the issue had been fixed, the mid-event tournament reset, and the discovery that the “fix” hadn't actually fixed the underlying problem. DJz explains what happened to player scores during the reset, which players were potentially hurt the most, and what compensation should look like after such a disruptive event. Then we get into the larger question: how does STFC prevent this from happening again? If Alliance Tournaments function correctly in a development environment but collapse when thousands of real players hit the system simultaneously, should Scopely create a dedicated live test server? DJz proposes cloning player alt accounts onto a server operating 72 hours ahead of the rest of the game, allowing real players to stress-test events before they reach the entire galaxy. We also tackle the bizarre Player Council voting rollout and open the microphones to members of the community and alliance leadership to hear how the day affected their players. And yes, there actually IS some good news: the Gilded Shackle is being fixed so its G7 cost efficiency applies to resources, materials, AND ship parts. The larger question after August 10 isn't whether bugs will ever happen again. It's whether Scopely can learn from them, communicate when they happen, and rebuild the trust that each failure costs.
