TeeTalk presented by Flagstick.com brings you insightful conversation about all aspects of the world of golf. We dig into current events and bring you guests from the industry you’ll want to hear from. From tour talk to equipment, travel, and more, we take you inside the game in every episode.
When you didn't know you would be doing a podcast three years ago, we think TeeTalk turned out pretty well. Starting from a parking lot conversation - "we should do a podcast", this show was born and it's been quite a run. Sadly, but with pride, this is our last episode. It's the culmination of 151 episodes, 200 hours of programming, and countless more hours behind the scenes - wrangling guests, writing scripts, and digging through background research. Wanting to keep it a party instead of a funeral, you'll find this show "The Finale" is full of all the regular TeeTalk goodness, from The Week That Was to the Mail Bag. We have a heavy sampling of Saudi Golf League talk, and, of course, there is a generous helping of thanks and goodbyes. When a door closes another one opens, so keep an eye out for both Scott and Stefan and where they may pop up next. Thank you to Jeff Bauder of Flagstick.com and various sponsors for supporting the show. Thanks as well to all the amazing guests, and especially to the listeners in 85 countries who were gracious enough to give us a listen. We hope to see you on the fairways... The West Coast swing on the PGA TOUR rolls along but the AT&T Pro-Am was just a part of the golf scene this week. Top players headed to Saudi Arabia, while other prepared for the Waste Management Phoenix Open. The LPGA visited Ft. Myers, Florida for the 1st time in 47 years, and that provided an exciting new winner. We wrap all that up in the the Week That Was and then are joined by Aaron Dill, the Tour Rep for Vokey Wedges and heir apparent to Bob Vokey, to talk about new SM9 wedges, how players can get better performance from their wedges, and even a little about the preferences of tour stars like Adam Scott and Justin Thomas. The Mail Bag has us talking about buddy trips, golf clubs we regret leaving behind, underrated players to follow at LPGA events, and how much we would spend to play every course that hosts the PGA TOUR in a single season. Golf shapes lives. It's been said many times that being involved in the sport impacts people beyond the fairways. An example of that is David Gaylord. From a small town in Canada, Gaylord has used golf sucess in his youth to propel him into education, and impacted his life as a successful and innovative entrepreneur. The CEO and founder of upstart company, Bushbalm, joins us to share thoughts on how golf shaped him, lessons learned that he applies to business daily, and even how he might change golf as it is today. It's a fun conversation, thought-provoking at times, and wrapped in our usual sgements, makes for an entertaining epsisode. Enjoy! We certainly take things in a new direction this week with a guest that knows a lot less about golf than most of those who join us, but is now massively passionate about the sport. Jake Triplett is well-known on social media but in recent times has become better known for his podcasting work (Ghostrunners, a podcast about nothing) and stand-up comedian efforts. Happily, puts down his pasta from Chili's at his Kansas City home, he manages to form whole sentences and keep us very entertained. He explains his golf journey, his path to where he is in his career, the joys and challenges of stand up comedy, and is gracious enough to judge our awful attempts at writing and peforming some jokes. We break down some video of his golf swing, and he plays a golf related word game with us. As much as he has been in the public spotlight for year, and is now on a U.S. national comedy tour with Trey Kennedy, Triplett has never shared much about his intense affinity for golf, so we were happy to provide a forum. As per usual, we dive in The Week That Was, and take your Mail Bag questions on a variety of topics, including how long we would consider giving up golf to end a pandemic. It's a very full week of golf talk with most of the major professional golf tours back in action. The Week That Was see us give takes on plenty of topics including (and more); Kevin Na and Grayson Murray take their beef to Twitter If he has to, which will Henrik Stenson choose, Ryder Cup Captaincy or Big Saudi dollars? The rise and fall of Russell Henley at the Sony Open in Hawaii, and Hideki's spectacular finish. Happy Anniversary to Jason Dufner's 915 7 wood. The relevance of par for pros and the reaction of people over it. Is the Korn Ferry Tour missing an coverage opportunity? We also dive into the latest new equipment news and some gear related signings of professional and amateur athletes, make our picks for the week for the Amex Championship, preview the return of the LPGA, and sort through who is fighting to be the #1 player in the world this week at the DP World Tour Abu Dhabi Championship. All that ands the Mail bag is stacked with questions about playing golf with Novak Djokovic , putter fitting, the best off-season golf purchases, value golf courses in Ontario, tournament memories from Flagstick events, the future of the golf industry, and one listener has a risky situation he'd like some advice on. A special treat this week as not only did the PGA TOUR return with the Sentry Tournament of Champions but we also welcome a guest we have been looking forward to for quite some time. After plenty of banter about the week that was, including Tour Talk, announcements for the U.S. Women's Open, etc., the #4 ranked player in the World Rankings for Golfers with a Disability joins us for a feature interview. Kurtis Barkley grew up with big golf dreams and physical restrictions, but has made the most of it. After establishing himself as a top amateur golfer closer to home in Canada, Barkley has taken his game to a world stage with the growing presence of golf events created specifically for players of all-abilities. As a result he has hoisted trophies at a national level, mixed it up with the best players in the world in Australia, Scotland, and Dubai, and risen upward to the top echelon of the world rankings. It's an insightful interview into a world of golf few people know about. We kick off 2022 with a bang as we look back on happenings in golf over the last month, discuss the PGA TOUR Sentry Tournament of Champions, and explore golf resolutions players (and others) might have for the year ahead. Senior Director of Product Creation at TaylorMade Golf, Tomo Bystedt, joins us to discuss the very distinctive new Stealth woods for the company, and for the Mail Bag we mix it up and ask each other a question for a change. It's a lively start to the 2022 golf season; welcome back to all our listeners around the world. The 2021 golf year was another remarkable one and we look back on 48 episodes of the Flagstick.com TeeTalk Podcast to end the season. We run through the gamut of guests and shows to note memorable chats and moments. We pick out our favourite courses we played, our most memorable rounds (personally and on tour), and the players were were most shocked by in 2021. Stefan challenges Scott to a little role playing (to Scott's chagrin) of some of the year's most notable characters in golf, while Scott tests Stefan to the Transcript Game. He has to guess who said each of ten quotes from PGA TOUR or LPGA Tour press conferences from the year. It's a good time and a great way to close off the season. Thanks to everyone who listened in the past year, to all our guests and sponsors, and we look forward to bringing you more content and entertainment in 2022. Oh, and please subscribe on your favoruite platform and feel free to share our show with others. All the best for the Holiday Season! As the golf year nudges towards a close for 2021, we catch up with a former guest, Canada's Noah Steele. A winner on the Mackenzie Tour - PGA TOUR Canada as an amateur this past season, Steele recently supplemented his pro schedule by earning status on the PGA TOUR Latinoamerica. As a result he gets his season started there this week with the playing of the 115th Argentine Open. During a recent visit to home in Kingston, Ontario we sat down with Steele to discuss the end of the 2021 Mackenzie Tour season and his pursuit of The Five, the support of Team Canada, the transition to becoming a touring professional, a recent trip to California to get his equipment in order (including a very special putter), and his perspective on what lies ahead for him in 2022. With the PGA TOUR, LPGA TOUR, and European Tour winding down for 2021 you'd think there would be not a lot to talk about, but oh, there is. End of year play, Q-Schools, equipment signings, schedules, purses for 2022...that's just a start of what we cover in Episode #142. And that's before we get to your Mail Bag questions! DePaul grad, former touring professional, founder of the Toronto Players Tour (TPT), and Mackenzie Tour - PGA TOUR Canada official Russell Budd joins us as the feature guest. He shares many thoughts on the success of the PGA TOUR Canada in 2021, what he has offered upcoming players with the TPT, and we get a few stories about players and life on the road in Latin America back in the day, including a caddy story for the ages. Joining us on the show this week is a guest we have wanted to have on for some time, Blair Bursey. The Gander, Newfoundland-raised pro, still just 24-years-old, made his mark this past year on the Mackenzie Tour - PGA TOUR Canada. He was a consistent performer all season long, always lurking around the top of the leaderboard, and finished up his Canadian campaign with a victory in Victoria at the Reliance Properties DCBank Open. The win propelled the lefty to 2nd place in the season-long points list and secured his status on the circuit for 2022. Bursey joins us to share his story from being a small town kid who made his way to Utah for NCAA Division 1 golf, and now travels the world pursuing his goal of playing amongst the best golfers in the world. Outside of the interview, we have plenty of talk about the LPGA and PGA TOUR, some great questions from listeners, as always, and we offer a golf tip that you can use this winter to improve your ball-striking. Regular guest Kyle Peters, current PGA Tour caddy for Mark Hubbard, checks in for a feature talk on the proposed rules change affecting green reading materials and yardage books in the pro ranks. He interprets the proposed rules for us, shares what he like and does not like about them, and where things go next with the decision. He also catches us up on looping at Korn Ferry Tour Q-School, caddy chatter on Tour, and even provides an update on his foray into beer league hockey in his home state of South Carolina. Stefan is back so we resume our Week That Was, throwing out birdies, bogeys, pars, and more on Taylor Pendrith, Greg Norman's involvement with the Asian Tour, integrity among golf people on social media, and have an emotional discuss about a recent loss in the golf community and some good that will come of it. The Mail Bag is full with questions about what golf ball to use for indoor practice, how Squid Game Golf might look (even though we have no clue about the show), will Canadians flock to the Asian Tour, how long a swing change takes to kick in, golf clubs in the future and the past, who is putting out some good golf instruction content on YouTube right now, and where to get started for off-season training. We take things indoors this week on the Flagstick.com TeeTalk Podcast to focus on golf instruction away from the sunshine and natural grass. Award-winning PGA of Canada Professional Derek MacDonald, the Academy Manager at the Royal Ottawa Golf Club and 2021 PGA of Ottawa Teacher of The Year, joins us for the entire show. We chat about how players can improve some skills better inside than out, the evolution of indoor training and technology, what the benefits of year-round training can be, and much more. Derek also handles listener Mail Bag questions on Improving Spin with Wedges, Best Advice For Slicers, Eliminating Toe Hits, Improving Your Putting, and Advice For Developing Competitive Juniors. With a long winter ahead for some, the show is full of insight you'll want to hear if you plan to improve your golf game this off-season. Fall golf is winding down in Canada but the sport rolls on around the world. The includes the PGA TOUR where Sungjae Im recently won at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open and did so with the help of a Canadian caddy. That looper, veteran Billy Spencer, joins us on TeeTalk this week for a wide-ranging discussion. We cover off how he got into caddying, firing players and making transitions to others, the joys and downsides of being a pro caddy, being part of The Olympics, and even some discussion about his beloved Maple Leafs and Toronto Blue Jays. He's a popular guy on Tour and you'll find out why after giving this a listen. In the Week That Was we talk Symetra Tour, the latest exploits of Rickie Fowler, the CJ Cup (is it joining the line-up of world's worst golf trophies?), and a new golf tournament being backed by Geoff Ogilvy in Australia. The Mail Bag has us answering questions about giving golf tips to your father-in-law, PXG golf equipment, and the complications of being a spectator at the 150th Open Championship in St Andrews. If you hit a lot of thin golf shots with your irons with a lack of power, you may also want to catch the Tip of The Week. The core of the show is this week surrounds Barry Forth, a guest we have been meaning to have on for some time. The General Manager of a fully public golf course, Copetown Woods located near Hamilton, Ontario, he has some some great insight on the golf industry. That includes the challenges of a pandemic, how they keep their business on track in a competitive environment, and how they make sure their business is welcoming for staff and customers alike. There is plenty to take from the conversation. In the Week That Was we talk LPGA feats, Tiger and Phil Mickelson in the news, great deeds by young golfers, the Players Championship, and why do some PGA club professionals seemingly make not playing golf a badge of honour. In the Mail Bag we talk turkey, literally, personal launch monitors, annoying things at the driving range, how not to screw up shots after a perfect drive, our saturation point for PGA TOUR events, and off-season practice. In the Tip of The Week, Scott shares some thoughts on how you can improve your golf swing, no matter your location or time of year. On Episode 135 we have an interview I think many of you will find intriguing. As fans of the sport, I am sure, like me, you appreciate playing new and interesting golf courses. Many of us dream of playing ones that are highly regarded, whether that be from the recommendations of friends or the many ranking lists that are put together by media outlets and organizations on a regular basis. Today's guest, Anthony Spagnoli, shares that interest and has been able to act on it like few others have. A member of the Golf Digest golf course ranking panel as well as the one for ScoreGolf here in Canada, Anthony recently achieved a very special goal. It took some time, but he just completed the playing of the top 100 golf courses in Canada, as ranked by ScoreGolf, and he's joining us on this show to talk about the journey, and how golf has enriched his life. He shares details on the efforts it took him over six years to complete the task, what is involved in rating courses, and even some details about the challenges of condensed travel necessary to be a golf course ranking panelist. It's finally come and gone, so we take the time this week to give some thoughts on the Ryder Cup at Whistling Straits. The good, the bad, the head-scratching, and things we can expect in the future. Rory's interview, DJ's five points, the television coverage, fan behaviour, Brooks and Bryson, and Stricker's influence. Stefan challenges Scott to name the winners of PGA TOUR winners from each event in 2020 (you should try it), and we take a look at the week ahead on the PGA TOUR, LPGA TOUR, Korn Ferry Tour, and Mackenzie Tour. The Mail Bag is full of Ryder Cup questions but we also provide some opinions about where the retail price of golf clubs is going, we recall our favourite post game beverages for 2021, and provide some tips on dealing with Fall golf. For the Tip of the Week we talk about your trail arm and how to make it function better in the golf swing. It's a week three years in the making. The Ryder Cup at Whistling Straits has arrived and we give our perspective on what lies ahead. That includes predictions on who wins, who is the heel and the champion for each team, why the dynamics of team events do not always work, our thoughts on the course itself, and even what type of beer we think the winning team might be enjoying on Sunday. We take a look at the week that was with birdies, bogies, pars, and honourable mentions given to a variety of subjects and topics including LPGA KPMG insights and stats, European Tour Ryder Cup clothing, Max Homa's decision to put more effort into his game, Jin Young Ko's win in Portland, an 11 year-old making two aces, and Katy Rutherford playing in a Mackenzie Tour-PGA TOUR Canada event. The Tip of Week has us discussing short game, and the Mail Bag is Ryder Cup heavy with questions that range from "Who will hit an errant bal furthest into Lake Michigan this week?", to which player we would choose from each team if there had to be a sudden death, one-man playoff. It's a lot of fun, and might be the only Golf Podcast Episode that ever discusses Dunbar's Number... (You'll have to tune in for an explanation, but it's Ryder Cup relevant!) Best known from social media (Robmillertime) and his golf industry work with major websites like GolfWRX, Rob's got some amazing takes on all things going on in golf today. We rip through the latest chatter about the Ryder Cup, Solheim Cup, and PGA TOUR season-ending awards, chat a little equipment, and take on some great reader questions, some specifically for Rob. Chris Caldwell of Mizuno Golf joins us for the feature interview to talk about some of new product introductions from the brand, and in the Tip of the Week we discuss the fastest way to improve your putting. The boys spend some time looking ahead to the Ryder Cup and also break down who they think should be the Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year on the PGA Tour. Jeff Bishop from Dormie Workshop joins the show as well to discuss their brand, entrepreuneurship, being a PGA Professional, and the misconceptions of the Stack and Tilt swing method. The boys are back together for a jam-packed episode that starts by diving into the BMW Championship, Solheim Cup, PGA TOUR Championship, Korn Ferry Tour Championship, and the Ryder Cup. We run through some thoughts on fan conduct on the PGA TOUR, Phil Mickelson's rebuke of the USGA, Patrick Cantlay's putting, the soaring auction price for a Tiger Woods back-up putter, and discuss whether slope on rangefinders should be allowed in tournaments. Joining us for a feature interview for the first time in two years is Team Canada member Noah Steele who details how his amateur career was transformed by his recent win on the Mackenzie Tour - PGA TOUR Canada. He tells us what it was like to be the first amateur to win on the tour in almost 20 years, how he kept it together going down the stretch, and what his plans are for his immediate future. The MailBag returns with questions on golf travel in Prince Edward Island, the all-female broadcast crew that will be used at the ShopRite LPGA Classic, being a guest at a private club, our favourite messages that we received this year, and we share the oddest things we have witnessed in golf this summer. In the tip of the week we talk about playing the right speed in putting. Plenty to listen to; enjoy the show. *Instagram: TeeTalkPodcast (https://www.instagram.com/teetalkpodcast/) Flagstick (https://www.instagram.com/flagstickgolf/) Scott (https://www.instagram.com/scotmac1970/) Stefan (https://www.instagram.com/steedorf/) Twitter: Flagstick (https://twitter.com/Flagstick) Scott (https://twitter.com/ScotMacGolf) Stefan (https://twitter.com/Steedorf) Facebook: @Flagstick (https://www.facebook.com/Flagstick/)
Scotty is away again as he visits family in P.E.I. so that means Stefan has called in the relievers yet again. PGA Tour players Will Wilcox and Mark Baldwin join the show to co-host. We sit down to discuss Will's retirement from professional golf, Mark's latest stint on the PGA tour, and the boys do a full breakdown/roast of Stefan's swing. Scott is on vacation so Stefan made some calls to the bullpen. This week Ryan French is back on the podcast to co-host with Stefan. The boys discuss the players graduating to the PGA tour from the Korn Ferry Tour, players in status limbo, and should Kevin Kisner be on the Ryder Cup. We also announce our winners for the TaylorMade headcover giveaway contest. The boys are back together and oh, do they have plenty to talk about. We take a wander over the last two weeks for some deep talk on golf in the Olympics, leading to some fun chatter about what we would and would not be good at in the games. Also on the slate is discussion about the latest World Golf Championship event, the end of the regular season on the PGA TOUR, and we explore and give opinions on some other recent dramas on the circuit. In the feature interview we are joined by the man in charge of creating irons at TaylorMade Golf, Matt Bovee, who takes us deep inside the new P-790 irons and even shares some thoughts about working with Collin Morikawa, the now two-time major winner. In the Mail Bag, we address the importance (or lack of it) of winning on the PGA TOUR, how to get your buddies to play faster without being a jerk, whether golf should be in the Olympics, and reveal our current handicaps. It's an interview heavy episode this week as Stefan is off and Scott takes the reigns. The focus is on an interview we conducted earlier this year with PGA of Canada Professionals Kevin and Jake Haime. The father and son carry on the tradition of golf professionals in the family started by Kevin's father, Peter, and that also includes Kevin's brother, John, a playing professional for some time. We discuss the nuances of being involved in golf as a family business - the advantages, the challenges, and how the the business has changed over the years. That includes plenty of talk about the evolution of golf coaching and how each generation can learn from each other. Through the long history of the Canadian Tour, there have been many talented golfers. Some have ascended to become regulars on the PGA TOUR while many others fell just short of that pinnacle, despite having what seemed like equal abilities. Canada's Stuart Anderson, who won 4 times on the TOUR, including two TOUR Championships, was a player many felt was destined for nothing but success. He certainly achieved that as a two-time representative of his home country at the World Cup, but, like many pro golfers, he did not quite make it to the PGA TOUR on a full-time basis. Admired by his peers, the gregarious Anderson has continued to love the game of golf, despite giving it up for a few years to focus on other parts of his life. He joins us on TeeTalk for a lengthy discussion about his career, time on the road, people he has played with, experiences he has had, and why he is now returning to the game in multiple ways. It's an earnest discussion and we think you'll enjoy his story. - We also wrap up the Evian Championship and The Week That Was, and as well as take a look at Olympic Men's Golf and who we think might pick up a medal. No guest this week but it's not necessary becauseit is a full episode with plenty to talk about from the world of golf. We find out why Stefan's golf game should be on a milk carton and what he did on the range that will make you shake your head. A lot of storylines to talk about coming from The Open - Morikawa's win, the course, and being the last men's major of the season, we break down all of it and sum up the week that was with our usual "score" assignment to the Birdies, Bogeys, Pars, and Honourable Mentions. On the heels of that we rank the last 7 men's majors that have been compressed into a short schedule, bring back the "Role Play" game, sort through a ton of Mail Bag questions (including a really strange one), and wrap it up with a Tip of Week about chasing driver distance. *Instagram: TeeTalkPodcast (https://www.instagram.com/teetalkpodcast/) Flagstick (https://www.instagram.com/flagstickgolf/) Scott (https://www.instagram.com/scotmac1970/) Stefan (https://www.instagram.com/steedorf/) Twitter: Flagstick (https://twitter.com/Flagstick) Scott (https://twitter.com/ScotMacGolf) Stefan (https://twitter.com/Steedorf) Facebook: @Flagstick (https://www.facebook.com/Flagstick/) Episode production by Brendan Kennedy LinkedIn (https://www.linkedin.com/in/brendankennedyfoh/) Twitter (https://twitter.com/brendankennedy_)
A full show this week as we put the spotlight on The Open as it returns after it was cancelled in 2020. Lots of chatter about the week that was and what we can expect of the 149th Open Championship at Royal St Georges. We draft players, take a tour through the storylines we want and don't want to see, and give you some bets to consider. The Mail Bag questions are all about The Open, and in the Tip of the Week we help you be a better iron player through a subtle change in the timing of your swing. Our feature guest is Ru MacDonald, the Social Media Content Manager for the European Tour, who joins us from Royal St Georges for some perspective on the course and the European Tour players we need to watch for. He also puts on his Scottish Golf Podcast hat as we talk about the expected upcoming surge in golf travel. *Ru MacDonald * Twitter (https://twitter.com/rumacdonald?lang=en) *Instagram: TeeTalkPodcast (https://www.instagram.com/teetalkpodcast/) Flagstick (https://www.instagram.com/flagstickgolf/) Scott (https://www.instagram.com/scotmac1970/) Stefan (https://www.instagram.com/steedorf/) Twitter: Flagstick (https://twitter.com/Flagstick) Scott (https://twitter.com/ScotMacGolf) Stefan (https://twitter.com/Steedorf) Facebook: @Flagstick (https://www.facebook.com/Flagstick/) Episode production by Brendan Kennedy LinkedIn (https://www.linkedin.com/in/brendankennedyfoh/) Twitter (https://twitter.com/brendankennedy_)

Life was a blur for both of us the past week so we did not catch much golf on television. That said there is still plenty to discuss given the recent success of Nelly Korda as she goes back-to-back on the LPGA TOUR, adds a major to her resume, and becomes world #1. Stefan breaks down his full Flagstick Open experience - the good, the bad, and the ugly. We hand out our usual assortments of birdies, bogeys, pars, and honourable mentions and somehow end up talking about both the Ryder Cup and The Masters. A strange turn but fun nonetheless. We welcome Todd Keirstead to the show for an interview about his continued efforts to bring more people to the game of golf, specifically through a new ParaGolf Canada program. You'll find it thought-provoking, we assure you. The Mail Bag is an assortment of equipment and playing questions, whether we'd rather like to work on the pro shop or on a maintenance crew, big mistakes that arrive at the lesson tee, and you'll get our preferences on wind vs rain. We'll also weigh in on whether you need a lesson or a new putter more. The Tip of the Week has Scott talking ball position. A wild show this week as we wander all over the place in golf starting with a wrap-up of the U.S. Open, the win by Jon Rahm, and all that ensued in San Diego. We have plenty of takes on the week, making for great conversation. We also have another major going on this week, this time on the LPGA TOUR with the KPMG Women's PGA Championship. we preview that and draft some players to continue our in-pod battle for prediction supremecy. The men's Olympic Golf Qualifying has been finalized so we have a look at the 60 players and break down some notable teams. With the Travelers Championship on tap on the PGA TOUR, we preview the event, ponder why they get such a strong field, and welcome a guest who is playing this week. Chase Koepka may be lesser known than his brother (for now), but he's making his own way in the game on golf. The USF grad has found success in college, in Europe, and is developing nicely on the Korn Ferry Tour and in forays on to the PGA TOUR. He gives an open, honest, and fun interview for the TeeTalk listeners. We asked for serious, wild, and hypothetical questions for the Mail Bag this week and you sent them. We're handling queries on the streaker at the U.S. Open, dream interviews, and even who we'd like to take on in a tag team wrestling match. Yeah, a wrestling match. Tune in and enjoy. Please subscribe and let your friends know about the podcast. It's appreciated. This Episode presented by PING Golf and the all-new PING G425 Family of clubs. It's a huge week in golf with the 121st U.S. Open on tap and we jump in with a draft, headlines we would and would not like to see, and lay out some of the best value bets for the week at Torrey Pines. In The Week That Was we chat surprise winners on the PGA and LPGA Tours, update you on the latest drama from Brooks and Bryson, and hand out a few bogeys to things were spotted in the golf scene. To help provide more perspective on the U.S. Open we welcome Mitch Theoret for our feature interview. A former professional hockey player, he is the caddy for friend and fellow Canadian Taylor Pendrith. Mitch shares what they are seeing in the golf course this week, talks about strategy to play the course well, and predicts a winning score. In the Mail Bag we reveal if we have ever quit during a round because of a playing partner, give advice about choosing what tee decks you should play, verify if Torrey Pines is REALLY a muni, give our take on buckets hats and tournaments formats we like, and let you know if group lessons are only for beginning golfers. *This Episode presented by PING Golf and the all-new PING G425 Family of clubs. * Mitch Theoret Twitter (https://twitter.com/MitchellTheoret) *Instagram: TeeTalkPodcast (https://www.instagram.com/teetalkpodcast/) Flagstick (https://www.instagram.com/flagstickgolf/) Scott (https://www.instagram.com/scotmac1970/) Stefan (https://www.instagram.com/steedorf/) Twitter: Flagstick (https://twitter.com/Flagstick) Scott (https://twitter.com/ScotMacGolf) Stefan (https://twitter.com/Steedorf) Facebook: @Flagstick (https://www.facebook.com/Flagstick/) Episode production by Brendan Kennedy LinkedIn (https://www.linkedin.com/in/brendankennedyfoh/) Twitter (https://twitter.com/brendankennedy_) Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/brendankennedy_/)
Plenty to discuss this week starting with a wild and wonderful U.S. Women's Open where Yuka Saso captured the attention of the golf world with her surprising but welcome win. We sift through The Memorial, including some thoughts on the John Rahm "withdrawal" and the fact that our picks for the week ended up in a playoff. We take a shallow dive through the Brooks/Bryson talk to determine if there is actually a "rivalry" of any kind that matters, and preview the Palmetto Championship. Joining us this week in the feature interview is veteran Korn Ferry Tour member Scott Gutschewski. He shares details of his 20+ years as a touring pro on everything from the Prairie Tour to the PGA TOUR, all while balancing family life with four kids. In the Mail Bag we answer questions on warm-up routines, the prospects of the Canadians at the U.S. Open, wedge set-ups, ready golf, favourite short holes, and would we rather have no three putts or no penalty strokes for an entire year of golf? The Tip of the Week returns with talk about chest and lead arm rotation in the backswing. *This Episode presented by PING Golf and the all-new PING G425 Family of clubs. * *Scott Gutschewski * Twitter (https://twitter.com/S_Gutschewski) *Instagram: Flagstick (https://www.instagram.com/flagstickgolf/) Scott (https://www.instagram.com/scotmac1970/) Stefan (https://www.instagram.com/steedorf/) Twitter: Flagstick (https://twitter.com/Flagstick) Scott (https://twitter.com/ScotMacGolf) Stefan (https://twitter.com/Steedorf) Facebook: @Flagstick (https://www.facebook.com/Flagstick/) Episode production by Brendan Kennedy LinkedIn (https://www.linkedin.com/in/brendankennedyfoh/) Twitter (https://twitter.com/brendankennedy_) Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/brendankennedy_/)
Plenty to talk about in The Week That Was including the LPGA Bank of Hope Match Play from Las Vegas, the PGA TOUR's playing of "The Colonial", and a Champions Tour Major. Talk of the Japan Tour makes the show for the 1st time, and we discuss the move by Justin Thomas to support a mini-tour pro. Stefan is in full grief for his Toronto Maple Leafs so that's a great starter with our guest, Shawn McKenzie of Sportsnet, who makes his second show appearance. We talk hockey with him (of course) then get to his other passion, golf, as we chat equipment, betting on the golf course, and the possibilty of golf content for his new show called, well, The Show. He gives us the scoop on the new project and plans for it, reveals his hopes to add some golf elements to his new house, and updates us on his attempt not to die while training for an IronMan race, an effort his is making to raise money for Toronto's SickKids Foundation. Another huge week in golf as the United States Women's Open gets underway at The Olympic Club. We preview the championship, make our draft picks, and also each pick a winner for The Memorial. The Mailbag is varied as usual, including what an MMA match-up between Scott and Stefan might look like, Ryder Cup questions, and an ask about municipal golf courses and major championships. It was an incredible past week in golf as Phil Mickelson managed the near impossible and won a major championship at the age of 50. We get to eat a little crow over that on the show this week, given the predictions about how we figured Phil might fare at Kiawah Island. To help things along and wrap up the tournament that captured the attention of the golf world, we are joined by Andrew Tschudin, caddy for Australia's Cam Davis, who made the cut at PGA and was in the mix early on. Andrew gives in the ropes insight on what the championship looked like from their perspective, adding a whole new layer to what we most people saw as viewers. His time as a tour pro, using rangefinders in a PGA TOUR event, and thoughts on the Ocean Course are all part of the conversation. The Mail Bag is full of PGA Championship questions, plus a few that are swing and lesson related. The Tip of the Week has Scott discussing sand shots and how you can make them easier through more effective use of your wedge. *Instagram: Flagstick (https://www.instagram.com/flagstickgolf/) Scott (https://www.instagram.com/scotmac1970/) Stefan (https://www.instagram.com/steedorf/) Twitter: Flagstick (https://twitter.com/Flagstick) Scott (https://twitter.com/ScotMacGolf) Stefan (https://twitter.com/Steedorf) Facebook: @Flagstick (https://www.facebook.com/Flagstick/) Episode production by Brendan Kennedy LinkedIn (https://www.linkedin.com/in/brendankennedyfoh/) Twitter (https://twitter.com/brendankennedy_) Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/brendankennedy_/)

Our "Scoring" segment is all PGA Championshio related as we take on the story-lines of the week, good or bad, and we also answer a Mail Bag full of questions about the tournament. We draft our teams for the week (some of our picks may surprise you) and each provide five bets that we are willing to put our own money on. PGA TOUR caddy and Charleston, South Carolina resident Kyle Peters joins us from Kiawah Island with his in-depth insight on the course, how he expects the week to play out, and other local knowledge. That includes how the caddies will be treated this week and where they are dining. He also gives us thoughts on rangefinders being used, the real length the Ocean Course might be played at, what he thinks will be the winning score, and all the details of the course you might only hear from a pro caddy who has played it many times. When you ask most golfers about practice, they'll tell you about their marathon sessions on the driving range, "perfecting" their golf swings. This week's guest knows where the real gold is though, the short game. Gareth Raflewski has become the Irish wizard around the greens. Trained as an Engineer, but a golfer his whole life, he turned his talents away from playing to coaching and has found global success over the last dozen years. Three of Raflewski's students have become #1 in the Rolex Women's World Rankings, and he can count some 60 LPGA TOUR players he has worked with, along with multiple PGA TOUR players. Gareth joins us to share some of his secrets to coaching, skills and drills you can use to improve your game, insight into technology he is working with to advance his craft, and what life has been like in the last year working mostly from home. He also introduces you to his training aids and how they were developed. Raflewski also has the insight of being a coach at a club, the River Bend Golf Community, in London, Ontario, where he has given thousands of lessons, so you know he can relate to all our listeners as well. It's a fun conversation. This Episode presented by PING Golf and the all-new PING G425 Family of clubs. It’s only been six months but here we are again re-capping a memorable playing of The Masters. Stefan and Scott break down the major with their highs and lows from the week that was, who were the surprises, and who were the dissapointments. They also welcome Tomo Bystedt of TaylorMade Golf who shares what the two victories in eight days at Augusta National mean to a the nation of Japan to which he identifies deeply. We talk about how the wins by Tsubasa Kajitani at the Augusta National Women’s Amateur and Hideki Matsuyama will impact the popularity of golf in Japan, how it may shape the upcoming Olympics, and also push the game forward there for the future. The Mailbag is filled with Masters questions (again) we do a live speed challenge to find putters to buy in certain price categories online, and the tip of the week addresses how to achieve softer, higher pitch shots around the green with a simple technique. I mean, what else could this week's show be primarily about? The Masters, of course. After we run through the week that was, including an incredible finish and winner at the LPGA's ANA Inspiration, it is all hands on deck, the green deck, as we dominate the podcast with talk of The Masters. We make our picks, of course, and the Mailbag is full of great Masters questions, but the main course of the show is our interview with Yohann Benson. Benson, a PGA of Canada professional, former tour pro and tour caddy, and now analyst for RDS/TSN drops us insight direct from the grounds at Augusta National Golf Club. After walking the practice round with Mike Weir, Corey Conners, and Mackenzie Hughes on Tuesday, Benson shares his observations on the trio and their chances for this week. He also gives a great overview of course conditions, the prospects of many players this week based on how the course is playing, and even drops a nugget or two from chats with players like Justin Thomas. If you need last minute insights for your golf pool, have a listen ASAP! Thanks, as well, to Ellis Meek, who provided the music for this Episode. It's a big week at the podcast as Stefan's new "roommate" finally arrives and he unexpectedly shows up for the episode! There has never been more discussion about the topic of golf's future, given the boost in play last year by the pandemic, so we check in with Mike Kelly of Golf Ontario for the feature interview. He shares the perspective of their association on the impact of 2020, what they are working on to help the game thrive, and their plans for tournaments and such in the year ahead. The Week The Was finds us with a lot of love for the Joel Dahmen win on the PGA TOUR and plenty of excitement over the play of Canadian pros and amateurs at multiple golf events. We make our picks for the first pro major of the year, the ANA Inspiration, and welcome the River Town Saints for the guest music of the week. The Mail Bag has us answering questions about recent Korn ferry Tour winner Adam Svensson, favourite beverages on the golf course, do we like more match play for pro golf, LPGA majors we'd like to attend, and the structure of golf clinics. The Tip of The Week has us talking about how to improve your practice sessions. He showed up; he told stories, and we were entertained. We think you will be too as well-travelled golf pro Mark Baldwin joins us on this episode. He has had a remarkable career so far with the wild tales that go with that. He takes you inside the life of a pro golfer playing on the edge of being an alternate each week on the Korn Ferry Tour and the adventures that ensue. Strap yourself in, grab some popcorn and also hear about playing in Korea and a wild caddy tale that is a little on the shady side of life. Also on the show, we give out our "awards" for the week that was, make our selections for the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play Championship, ponder how Michelle Wie West may play in her return to the LPGA TOUR, and task ourselves with making up nicknames for three holes stretches at famous golf courses. In the Mail Bag we talk under-rated golf experiences, how mini-tours work, scoring formats we prefer for two-person team events, and golf books about Scotland. THE PLAYERS Championship takes centre stage in this episode as not only do we wrap up all the nuances and story-lines from the PGA Tournament left unfinished in 2020 due to the pandemic, but we welcome a guest with way more insight than most on the subject. Outgoing Tournament Director Ryan Hart joins us for a very in-depth interview on the 2021 PLAYERS. He shares what his team was feeling as they prepared for this year, the logistics of running one of the biggest events in pro golf with 20% of their fans and in a whole new era, and he recaps his time as tournament director and take fans inside the ropes on the operations side. It’s a wide-ranging and compelling look that golf fans rarely get to hear about and we think you’ll enjoy the candor of the Canadian who now moves on to take over operations for the 2024 Presidents Cup in Montreal. We take a look a glance around the tours for the weeks ahead, including a depleted field at The Honda Classic, some surprising names playing on the Korn Ferry Tour, and have a look at the first Symetra Tour event of the season. In the Tip of the Week we discuss the bend in the trail elbow, and in the Mail Bag we have a diverse group of questions from the listeners once again, including: how much of our own money would we gamble on hitting the 17th green at TPC Sawgrass Stadium, what’s the perfect halfway house food that’s likely not served now, opinions on Rory, Decade Golf, PGA TOUR coverage of poor shots by pros, and would we like to see the LPGA play at TPC Sawgrass Stadium course? Brad Fritsch is back. The Korn Ferry Tour winner and past PGA TOUR member last made a show appearance in May, 2019 and he returns to grace us with his thoughts on a wide range of topics. Never short on well though-out opinions, Fritsch digs in with us on topics like Bryson DeChambeau, distance in golf, the cancellation of the 2021 RBC Canadian Open, The Players Championship and who the TPC Sawgrass course favours, his playing plans for the season, and his recent experience attending a live NHL game in the Covid-era. As usual we draft up some picks for the week, assigns scores to some of the most notable current golf topics, and take on your questions, including ranking some large pizza chains (??). In the Tip of The Week we talk Ball Position and what it can impact in the golf swing. With his 2021 season underway, Canada’s Taylor Pendrith returns to the show to give our listeners an update on his life, on and off the tour. We discuss his recent appearance at the Puerto Rico Open and other opportunities he will have on the PGA TOUR this year. At the same time he lays out his goals and focus on the Korn Ferry Tour this season, takes us inside his bag to see what equipment he is using and testing, explains what strange snack his caddy, Mitch, has slipped into the bag, discusses the surge of Mike Weir on the PGA TOUR Champions, and, of course, shares some Maple Leafs talk. We also chat about the role of sponsors in the development of young golf pros and what house-warming parties for golf pros have in common for golf pros and everyone else. (Hint: some assembly required) We introduce you to our new producer, Brendan Kennedy, an emerging golfer and sound engineer for a Juno Award-winning band. Plenty of Collin Morikawa talk as we debate his career ceiling, as well as The Week That Was with our Birdies, Bogeys, Pars, and Honorable Mentions. The Mail Bag is bursting with listener questions about Patrick Reed equipment deals, favourite golf course meals, putting instruction books, golf pros and their relationship with social media, wing sauces, and club pro purchasing dilemmas. A great example this week of working on a script for a show then having it go sideways. We give our initial reaction to the Tiger Woods car crash news just hours after the story broke. Joining us for a feature interview is the Director of Product Design for PING Golf, Ryan Stokke, who takes us through the entire G425 product line. That includes insight on a new club being added to the bag for Canada’s Corey Conners. We give our Pars, Birdies, and Bogeys for the past week in golf with plenty of talk about Riviera, Max Homa, Madelene Sagstrom, possible changes in Amateur Status rules, and some thoughts on Tony Finau and the fans being allowed to attend at the upcoming PGA Championship. For fun we lean on our past retail golf experience to come up with some stereotypical golf shoppers; you’ll recognize all of them and we admit to being some of them as well. The Mail Bag is full, again with at least one coffee question. We also address low cost irons, which pro golfer we would invite to dinner with our family, and some questions on both Bryson Dechambeau and Annika Sorenstam. In the tip of the week we address an element that will provide more consistency for your practice putting. The future of golf is in the spotlight this week with the unique perspective of an architect who has played the game at a high level, seen and worked on some of the best courses in the game, and strives to make the game accessible and attractive to all. Canadian Christine Fraser joins us with her thoughtful look at golf, what it has meant for her, and the potential it holds. It's a conversation we think you'll enjoy. We celebrate the 25th anniversary of Happy Gilmore with a trivia game, gives out pars, birdies, and bogies for the week that was, chat a little about Riviera G&CC, and take on an extra full Mail Bag. If you want to know our go-to coffee orders, a listener asks, and we trundle through questions on preferred golf shoe brands, some favourite courses in Canada's National Capital, alignment aids on putters, how many clubs a beginning golfer needs, and what we love more - par 3s, 4s, or 5s? After only a brief stop on the show in Episode 100, our celebration episode, PGA of Canada Professional Brad Lawrence is back for a full interview. The Associate Professional at the highly-regarded Hamilton Golf & Country Club, the site of Rory McIlroy's RBC Canadian Open win in 2019, Brad shares his insight on junior golf development and much more. Outside of the interview we explore the decision by the PGA of America to allow rangefinders, the return of Annika Sorenstam to the LPGA, and the stories from the men's tournaments in Phoenix and Saudi Arabia where Brooks Koepka and Dustin Johnson prevailed. The Mail Bag sees us answer questions about the possibility of rangefinders on the PGA TOUR, is it possible to make a good golf movie, what are the youthful golf brands, the pros and cons of hitting golf balls off of turf versus mats, and would TPC Scottsdale be suited for a 2-player team event. We take a quick look at the early part of the backswing in the Tip of the Week.
