Tune in to the next episode of the Suite Spot: Independent Hotel Show series to catch special guest Nicholas Gold, who takes center stage on the podcast! As Managing Director of Black Desert Resort, Nicholas shares the early beginnings of his hospitality journey, the one-of-a-kind appeal of independent hotels, and how the newly opened Black Desert Resort is accentuating the guest experience in hospitality. Ryan Embree: Welcome to Suite Spot, where hoteliers check in, and we check out what's trending in hotel marketing. I'm your host, Ryan Embree. Hello everyone. Welcome to another episode of The Suite Spot. This is your host, or Ryan Embree here for another edition of our Independent Hotel Show series, episode #3, and we are getting closer and closer to September down where we are gonna have the largest collection of independent hoteliers and network. We are so excited to hopefully see you down in Miami Beach, September 17th and 18th. We're gonna talk about that a little bit more, but I'm gonna bring in my guest right now, managing director Black Desert Resort and Red Mountain Resort, Nicholas Gold. Nicholas, thank you so much for being on the Suite Spot. Nicholas Gold: Ryan. My absolute pleasure. Cheers. Ryan Embree: Well, we're gonna have a fun time on this episode talking about your beautiful resort in Utah. I'm so excited. But before we get into that, before we start talking about the Independent Hotel show, which we're both here for, let's talk about your hospitality journey and the story that led you to a Black Desert Resort. Nicholas Gold: Yeah, sure. You know, it's, I started when I was too young to know any better in the hospitality business. I at a fairly young age, I was working in a restaurant in London. I was the guy, you know, I'm relatively old, so we did a lot of tableside cooking back then, and I was the gang who worked the Gary Don, and that really spoke to me because it led me to, it fed my love of storytelling, which I've just been able to expand upon as I've grown in the industry, and that that juxtaposition between service and storytelling really is what the Independent Luxury Hotel is all about. Ryan Embree: Yeah, it absolutely is. Nicholas completely agree with you. Every amazing independent hotel has a story. You know, sometimes, sometimes it's challenging in the, in independent hotel space. Give our listeners a little bit, you, you say you love storytelling. Give our, our listeners a little bit of story about the property that you have the privilege of, of managing over there at the massive Black Desert Resort. Nicholas Gold: Yeah. So we are in about 600 acres just by snow Canyon State Park, and we do a really good job of blending luxury hospitality with golf, wellness, dining, a huge residential living component. We're building right now, we're about to break ground on a 24-court world championship pickleball complex, which is certainly the wave of the future. And we just finished working on the designs for a four and a half acre waterpark, which is not gonna be open to the public, only open to our members and hotel guests. Ryan Embree: Absolutely incredible. And I think, it's funny, we're talking about storytelling here in, in independent hotels because you, you're able to write your own story sometimes and be able to adjust and adapt to trends that you see out there. I see you mentioned wellness, a huge trend in hospitality right now, being able to do some unique things in that space. Pickleball, even on the amenity side, being able to do that and who doesn't love, I've got a couple young ones, who doesn't love a nice little waterpark to relax at as well. Nicholas Gold: I would also be remiss in missing the fact that I think we're one of the only courses in the country to host both an LPGA tour and a PGA tour. Ryan Embree: Incredible. Nicholas Gold: It is pretty good. Ryan Embree: Yeah. Listen, when those young ones are at the waterpark,

If you've ever felt stuck, frustrated, or like you're bringing emotional baggage from life onto the course, this episode will feel like it was made for you. From self-sabotage to self-worth, from fear to flow state, we cover it all. In today's episode, you'll learn: The key difference between mental game strategies and true mindset training Why emotional reactions on the course are often rooted in childhood patterns How to unearth and release limiting beliefs that create performance plateaus What it really takes to break through your “internal thermostat” and shoot lower scores How your identity shapes your results—and how to rewrite it The role of flow state, presence, and emotional regulation in consistent performance How golf is a mirror of your life—and how growth in one reflects in the other Get your pencils ready and start listening. Instagram: @thegolfhypnotherapist Twitter: @parsoverbogeys Key Takeaways: Mindset goes beyond routines. It's not just about pre-shot breathing or staying positive—it's about rewiring how you think, feel, and respond under pressure. You bring your whole self to the course. Your fears, beliefs, and emotional patterns show up in your swing, decision-making, and reactions. Fear drives self-sabotage. Fear of success, fear of failure, and fear of judgment all contribute to rushing, over-trying, and tightening up. Flow state is possible—and trainable. You can learn to access deeper focus and bypass conscious interference, creating effortless, confident swings. The subconscious is irrational. It's like a five-year-old running the show—until you learn to reprogram it. Reactions are patterns. Responses are power. You can train yourself to respond with calm, clarity, and curiosity—even after OB or three-putts. Change your identity, change your score. If you don't believe you're someone who can shoot in the 60s, your subconscious will keep the score higher. Key Quotes: “We bring our whole selves to the game of golf.” “The mental game is a checklist. Mindset is who you become.” “Your subconscious doesn't care if it makes sense. It just wants to protect you.” “The conscious mind is the goal-setter. The subconscious is the goal-getter.” “Golf is just a mirror of your personal development journey.” “You're either in the driver's seat of your life—or blaming someone else from the passenger side.” Time Stamps: 00:00: Introduction and Energy Exchange 01:09: Understanding the Mental Game of Golf 03:10: The Depth of Mindset in Golf 04:55: Exploring Emotional Connections in Golf 08:18: The Impact of Mindset on Performance 10:28: Overcoming Fear and Embracing Change 10:56: The Role of Fear in Personal Growth 14:02: The Importance of Identity in Performance 21:57: Building Mental Toughness 31:53: The Power of Positivity 42:25: Taking Ownership of Your Story

While the eyes of the sporting world were on Memphis and the trio of former Dolphins stars Larry Csonka, Jim Kiick and Paul Warfield on the cover of Sports Illustrated, the U.S. Women's Open was being played in Atlantic City and the smart money was on Sandra Palmer who would win the 2nd major of her Hall of Fame career, edging out a young amateur by the name of Nancy Lopez who would go on to have a Hall of Fame career herself. Back in the pack playing in her first US Open was the 1975 LPGA Rookie of the Year… Amy Alcott, fresh out of high school, turned pro at age 18… a day after turning 19 she won her first professional tournament in February of '75… a year later she won her 2nd of 29 LPGA titles… 5 of them majors including the 1980 US Women's Open. A golf prodigy, Alcott's parents turned their home… and more specifically their front and backyards, into a golf playhouse for their precocious 8-year old… and before you knew it, she was putting, chipping, and improving her game on her own… until she met a man that changed the course of her life… Walter Keller was her coach her entire career, and he knew Amy was something special the moment he saw her first swing a club. Alcott herself would go on to a Hall of Fame career that included 3 major wins at the Nabisco Dinah Shore in Rancho Mirage, CA… and in 1988, when Alcott won for the 2nd time, she celebrated by taking a plunge with her caddie in the nearby pond… an iconic moment that has become a tradition for this major tournament on the Women's tour. Alcott tells us on the Past Our Prime podcast that she never planned on taking the leap into the pond… it just kind of happened… and a tradition was born… in 1991, she won the tournament for a 3rd time, and with her mom having passed, Dinah Shore agreed to take the dive with Amy into the pond one last time. She tells of how she loved golf from the moment she first laid eyes on it, and that love has never wavered… She recaps her first major win and how she almost fainted from heatstroke late in that tournament, but plowed through to take home the title… A member of the Jewish Sports Hall of Fame, Alcott reminisces about a time she showed up at La Costa and just happened to play a few holes with arguably the greatest Jewish athlete of all-time… Sandy Koufax… She is as precocious and fun today as she was when she walked into that golf school 60 years ago and Walter Keller told her mother, “She's a little racehorse. This girls got talent.” He was right. One of the best to ever do it, LPGA Hall of Fame golfer Amy Alcott on the Past Our Prime podcast. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

We kick things off with a fired-up Hour Tua as the guys react to the NHL announcing that the Florida Panthers' home opener — as defending Stanley Cup Champions — will be played at 5 PM. Tobin and Leroy are not having it. How do you not put the champs in primetime? The disrespect is real. Then, the crew dives into the newly released Top 10 NFL Quarterbacks list, and there's plenty of beef to go around. Joe Burrow at No. 4? Justin Herbert ranked above Jalen Hurts? The gang breaks it all down and gives their own takes on who belongs where. Next up, it's time for Leroy's Game Balls and Game Bums of the week. There's some well-deserved praise for the LPGA, and some heat directed at Tobin for who he backed in a weekend fight — Leroy is not letting it slide. Plus, with several NFL rookies holding out due to contract negotiations, the guys weigh in on the growing trend and what it means for teams heading into camp. And of course, Tobin continues to be haunted by none other than Liam Eichenberg — some things never change.
Chris Gotterup staired down world number 2 Rory McIlroy on his way to the Scottish Open title at the Renaissance Club. The stunning win gets Gotterup into the Open Championship at Royal Portrush and into the Ryder Cup conversation for Bethpage Black. The top players in the world all played well this week including Rory, Scottie Scheffler, Ludvig Aberg and Viktor Hovland in Scotland and Jon Rahm in Spain. Will we see an epic Open Champinship at Royal Portrush? Women's professional golf may have given us one of the wildest finishes in the history of golf at the Evian Masters this week. Grace Kim played the final 6 holes(including the playoff) to steal a major title from Jeeno Thitikul. This leads us into the discussion about if a mens scratch golfer could beat an LPGA professional. Anyone with commons sense knows this answer, but we will discuss it on this week's episode. Subscribe to the Break80 Podcast on Apple, Spotify and YouTube for weekly golf content. Georgia Hall won the AIG Women's Open at Royal Lytham & St Annes in 2018, just five years after triumphing in the R&A Women's Amateur Championship. Georgia's victory wasn't just special because it was her first major, but also because her dad Wayne caddied for her that week. A superb final round of five-under-par featured numerous highlights, and Georgia was the first British winner of the event since Catriona Matthew clinched the title at the same venue in 2009. Georgia, who began playing golf aged seven after her dad took her to a driving range near their Bournemouth home, doubled her LPGA win tally when she triumphed in the Cambio Portland Classic in 2020. The three-time European Solheim Cup player is a two-time Ladies European Tour order of merit winner, in 2017 and 2018. Georgia lost to Celine Boutier on the first extra hole of a play-off in the LPGA Drive On Championship in March 2023. Coffee Golf season has come again and Brendan and Andy are ready for this week's Scottish Open. Before diving into the co-sanctioned field, Brendan shares a story from a listener who cashed out big thanks to this gambling podcast's constant mentions of Brian Campbell ahead of the John Deere Classic. Andy and Brendan then discuss the Genesis Scottish Open and the catnip of players posting their rounds at North Berwick early in the week. Content Machine Dylan Frittelli has told the world his plans to putt with a mini driver and Bob MacIntyre has Andy riled up with some comments about his driver swing. Attention then turns to the ISCO Championship in Kentucky, where DPWT players such as Jakob Skov Olesen will find themselves playing alongside PGA Tour stalwarts like John Bradley Holmes. Andy declares the ISCO as his "Event of the Week" and asks everyone to join him in following this tournament as closely as possible. The two circle back on the yearly discussion of the Evian Championship and its status as a major on the LPGA circuit before PJ jumps in to run down the field of "celebrities" at the American Century Championship in Lake Tahoe. This segment touches on NFL legends like Jerry Rice, national weather anchors, and has three Gary Sheffield impressions baked in. The Champions Tour is in New York, but three-time defending champion Padraig Harrington will skip the Dick's Open for a tee time at the Scottish Open instead. Brendan wraps up the Schedule of the Week with some on-the-ground insight from the U.S. Adaptive Open, sharing the stories of some athletes competing in Maryland. In news, Collin Morikawa has a temporary new caddie and Brendan solicits an expert opinion on the interior design of Trout National.
Meet my friends, Clay Travis and Buck Sexton! If you love Verdict, the Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show might also be in your audio wheelhouse. Politics, news analysis, and some pop culture and comedy thrown in too. Here’s a sample episode recapping four Thursday takeaways. Give the guys a listen and then follow and subscribe wherever you get your podcasts. Middle East Tensions Clay Travis and Buck Sexton broadcast live from Washington, D.C., where Clay and Buck share behind-the-scenes insights from their high-level meetings with members of President Donald Trump’s administration. The hour opens with lighthearted anecdotes about fan encounters in Georgetown and a humorous mishap involving Clay being denied entry to a White House meeting due to not having a Real ID. Despite the setback, Clay books former NFL kicker Jay Feely—now a congressional candidate in Arizona—for Hour 2 after a chance sidewalk meeting. The conversation quickly pivots to serious geopolitical developments, with a major focus on escalating tensions in the Middle East. Clay and Buck analyze the Trump administration’s strategic posture toward Iran amid reports of U.S. personnel being evacuated from embassies in the region. They discuss the implications of the International Atomic Energy Agency’s (IAEA) declaration that Iran is violating nuclear non-proliferation agreements—marking the first such ruling in 20 years—and the possibility of an imminent Israeli military strike on Iranian nuclear facilities. President Trump’s firm stance that Iran “cannot have a nuclear weapon” is highlighted, along with his administration’s efforts to support Israel while avoiding direct U.S. military involvement. Buck, drawing on his CIA background, and Clay explore the broader regional dynamics, including the Abraham Accords, Saudi-Israeli relations, and Iran’s weakening influence through proxies like Hezbollah and Hamas. They also examine the internal pressures facing the Iranian regime and speculate on whether a successful Israeli strike could destabilize the theocracy and pave the way for a more democratic future in Iran. Jay Feely for AZ Arizona congressional candidate Jay Feely. The former NFL kicker and sports broadcaster shares his journey from the football field to the political arena, emphasizing his commitment to President Donald Trump’s America First agenda. Feely discusses the challenges of campaign fundraising, the importance of border security, and the economic struggles facing young Americans, particularly in high-cost housing markets like Arizona. Feely also weighs in on the controversial topic of transgender athletes in women’s sports, defending fairness and safety for female competitors. He recounts his personal experience coaching girls' soccer and criticizes Simone Biles’ comments about Riley Gaines, highlighting the biological advantages male athletes have in women’s sports. The hour takes a lighter turn as Clay and Buck debate whether Clay could beat WNBA star Angel Reese in a one-on-one basketball game, sparking humorous banter about aging, athleticism, and dad pride. Feely joins in, joking about his own competitive edge and experiences playing with LPGA golfers. NYC Politics The upcoming mayoral race doesn't offer good options. Clay and Buck critique progressive candidate Zohran Mamdani’s past support for replacing police with social workers in high-crime areas, contrasting it with the potential return of Andrew Cuomo. Despite Cuomo’s controversial past, Clay argues he may be the most rational Democrat in the race, sparking debate among listeners. Obedience Training for the Masses The escalating national unrest, immigration enforcement, and cultural flashpoints shaping the political landscape under President Donald Trump. The hour opens with a critical analysis of the ongoing protests and riots across major U.S. cities, including Los Angeles, Seattle, and New York City. Clay and Buck emphasize the distinction between peaceful protests and violent riots, highlighting the media's reluctance to acknowledge the latter. A major focus is on President Trump’s immigration policy, particularly his promise to execute the largest deportation operation in American history. The hosts underscore that this initiative, which prioritizes the removal of violent criminal offenders, aligns with the working-class majority’s support. They also discuss the exploitation of illegal labor by elites and the need for stricter enforcement against employers hiring undocumented workers.
