Nehemiah is presented with an opportunity to explain his sadness to the king, and in the middle of the conversation he pauses to pray. Even when we don't have the words to pray, and even when we don't have the words to speak, when we pray, God is with us (see Rom. 8:26-27 & Luke 12:11-12). Nehemiah likely spent months in intentional prayer and fasting, but also in planning [v.7-8]. He understood that God could accomplish His plan even through a pagan king like Artaxerxes. God can provide for our needs in totally unexpected or unlikely ways. Nehemiah was physically standing before the king of Persia, but he was actually standing before the King of everything. Application: - God really does answer prayer. - God really is good. - God can be your God because of Jesus.

First Baptist Belton exists for the sole purpose of knowing Jesus intimately, serving Jesus passionately, and sharing Jesus globally. Our desire is to know Jesus, have a passion to serve Him, and to share Him with others here and around the world.
We study Nehemiah's conversation with Artaxerses and how it reflects the strange relationship between Church and State. What does it look like to be a Jew in the middle of the Babylonian empire. What does it look like to be a Christian in the middle of America? The answer is in who really sits on the throne.

Is your faith active, prepared and ready to seize the God given moments of life?
Destination HD: The future is a gift from God but destination has a lot to do with choice. Everyone has a vision whether noble or ignoble, positive or negative but for the Christian vision is God’s direction, dream, purpose, will for our lives. Moses, David, Nehemiah, Peter, Paul, all lived out God’s vision for their lives, they dreamed in high def. When we discern God’s vision for our lives it truly is Destination in High Def!
Nehemiah: a man of action and prayer Is there a sense of desperate prayer in your life? Holy discontent leads to desperate prayer The curse of the gifted: self-reliance Nehemiah is a good model for us: he is both gifted and reliant upon God’s power Nehemiah is called to remove the safety net. Is there a safety net that God is calling you to remove? Is your life easily explainable or do people look at your life and say, “There is no way to explain this except for God…” Corporate times for desperate prayer: Sep 14 – Prayer for our children and youth (after church @ SDA) Sep 18 – Prayer for the mission of our church (THR 8PM in Oakland) Oct 25 – Prayer for our home groups (SAT 8:30AM in Oakland) Nov 8 or 15 – Prayer for our communal worship (TBD) Dec 14 – Prayer for the mission of our church (SUN 9AM @ SDA)
There is no shortage of those who complain about problems. What the world needs is a few more problem solvers!
The second sermon in this series on Nehemiah. He finds favor with the king and gains permission to go to Jerusalem. We learn of God's favor and the conditions for receiving it.
