Anyway, I also learned some very good business lessons by watching everything that was going on. In this podcast episode, we go over some of the business lessons I learned and how to avoid the mistakes and capitalize on the good things. Let’s learn about Search Engine Optimization (SEO). This is the first episode in a series all about SEO. There is so much to learn. But first we have to start at the start. To understand all of this stuff about SEO, we need to define what a keyword (or keyword phrase) is. In this episode, you are going to learn all about what a keyword is and why you should care. Once you get this down, the rest of SEO will make much more sense. But if you don’t have this down, it’s going to be very confusing from here on out. So, take a listen and then when we go into more detail about SEO and the strategy you need, you be ready. This episode is sponsored by your FREE Blog Post SEO Checklist. This is the third in the How To Build Your Own Website series. We went over WordPress.org. We went over WordPress.com. And today we are going over Squarespace. I have actually used all three at different times in my life. I'm getting tempted to go back to Squarespace. I already built my whole website, my current one, on WordPress.org. Because I'm so picky and I've been doing this so long, building websites for people, I have a hard time handing it off to someone else. Right now, I'm just trying to focus on the content for this podcast, and helping people organize their business systems and their technology and stuff. So I don't wanna get bogged down by redoing my website. But I actually really love Squarespace and the idea of Squarespace. In my opinion, if you are just getting started... You haven't used WordPress.org before. You aren't used to that kind of system. And you're not a super techy person. Like you really do not like the idea of digging into the CSS and possibly HTML and everything of your website to make it exactly how you want it... I would suggest to really give Squarespace a shot. This might be kind of a long episode. There’s a lot to go over. I'm gonna try and dig into it as much as possible. So if you go over these three episodes, you can really get an idea, and probably figure out which one you wanna go with. Squarespace is a really good one to use if you don't wanna hire it out. You just don't have the funds to have someone else build your website, but you don't really wanna learn a whole lot about technology. I'm going to break down Squarespace here into a bunch of different sections so we can just go over one section at a time to see how it works. Last week we went over WordPress.org, so this week we are going to compare WordPress.org to WordPress.com. Yeah, there's a big difference. WordPress dot org AND WordPress dot com. They are 2 completely different beasts. Well, not completely different. WordPress dot com is owned by the people who started WordPress dot org. But WordPress dot org is an open-source software that anyone can take and make work however they want. While WordPress dot com is a software-as-a-service company that is very similar to other website builders, like Squarespace, Wix, Weebly, etc. The reason I'm doing this episode is because a lot of people mix them up. I've had people tell me before that they're already on WordPress, but what I'm saying doesn't make much sense to what they're looking at. Then I take a look at their site and it's like, "Well, you're on WordPress.com, which is different than WordPress.org." It also makes a big difference in how your website works with your business, so you want to make sure you make the right choice. To make the right choice, you need to know all your options. The next few Thursday episodes are going to be all about How to Choose the Best DIY Website Builder to build your website yourself. And today's episode is all about wordpress.org. For the next three Thursday episodes, I'm going to be going over the three kind of options that are out there. The best options that are out there for building your own website. This week we're going over wordpress.org. Next week I'm going to compare wordpress.org to wordpress.com. They get confused sometimes, so we'll go over exactly what the differences are and which one you'd rather use. And then the week after that I'm going to go over Squarespace. Squarespace is one of my favorite ones to use. Personally, I would say it's basically between wordpress.org and Squarespace. And then if you listen to the three episodes, you'll understand the differences and hopefully be able to choose which one is best for you. I decided to do this series on the How to Choose the Best DIY Website Builder because a lot of people, when they’re first starting a business, are on a budget. They need something that is free or almost free to get the things going. WordPress.org is one of the better ones to use. This is one you have more control over, but this is also one that you have to not be afraid of technology and realize that you’re going to get your hands a little dirty as far learning technology. It’s not going to be what they call a WYSIWYG. A what-you-see-is-what-you-get when you go to design it. You have to be open to learning technology.I’m just going to go over a few things that you want to do. This episode is sponsored by your FREE Blog Post SEO Checklist. Part of my business is building websites for people. I get asked over and over again, do I really need a website for my business? The short answer is yes, you need a website. It doesn't even need to be something spectacular, but you do need a website for your business. And I'm going to spend this podcast telling you the reasons why you need a website for your business. In a future podcast, though, I think I will go over what you want to have on your website. The more important things to have on your website. But right now, this is just to convince you yes, you do need a website for your business. It's not that hard. They're actually pretty easy to make up nowadays. Organizing Her Business Systems and Technology has been in development for years. I just didn’t realize it. Everything I have been doing up to this point: learning about technology and how to apply it in a business. Learning how to organize technology and all the other stuff… It’s all led me to this point with this podcast. In the second episode of Organizing Her Business Systems and Technology podcast, you will learn: Who is Tia Hain? I love organizing. And I love technology. Kind of a weirdo that way but that's okay I accept it. I also love helping women business owners organize their business and the technology they need to use in their business. And I also like helping people figure out the technology they need for their business because sometimes they end up having a bunch of stuff that they don't really even need. And they're paying for it. And well that just kind of sucks but that's basically who I am. And why I started this podcast. Now, let me tell you a little bit about me. And why I do love organizing. And why I love technology... But, why do I love organizing. And why do I love technology? Well, you can blame my parents for that. My mom was and is an organizing freak. She's a little bit less crazy about it now, but growing up everything always had a place. And they need to go back to that place. My mom’s not nearly as bad now, but that's definitely where I got my organizing gene from. Now where did I get this tech thing from? Why do I love tech so much? Well I got that from my dad. My dad was always just like, this technology wizard. He just got it. He went back to college after my parents got divorced. And he took one computer class. And then ended up teaching himself how to write code back in the 80s. And then also how to set up different hardware systems. And then he started his own business where he set up complete systems for some of the more major players in town. So basically I just got that technology bug from my dad. I was always been around it, so I've never been afraid of it. Kind of, I guess, like kids are nowadays... Why am I doing this show? The people I wanna reach are here. I've tried different areas. A lot of people are on Facebook but let's get real, it is really hard to reach people on Facebook anymore. When I first had my Facebook pages, really super easy. My first blog I think I had like 5,000 likes on my Facebook page pretty quickly. But that was because people could find me. People were looking for me. So it was really easy to do.But you just can't get there like that anymore on Facebook. A lot of the women I work with are Gen X women. I am a Gen X-er. And a lot of Gen X women actually listen to podcasts. It's kind of funny. I was looking at the top podcasts. Organizing Her Business Systems and Technology has been in development for years. I just didn’t realize it. Everything I have been doing up to this point: learning about technology and how to apply it in a business. Learning how to organize technology and all the other stuff… It’s all led me to this point with this podcast. In this inaugural episode of Organizing Her Business Systems and Technology podcast, you will learn: What Is Organizing Her Business Systems and Technology Podcast about? and...Who Is Organizing Her Business Systems and Technology Podcast for? What Is Organizing Her Business Systems and Technology Podcast about? My tag line is Gain Control of Your Business and Gain Control of Your Life. Organize your business systems and technology to streamline your business and spend more time where it matters. And that's basically it. I don't know about you, but I've actually been trying to get a business up and running for years now. I've tried eight million different things, but we'll go over that, me, in the next episode. Part of the issues that I've had is there are so many things when it comes to running a business. It would be great if it was just... I have this thing. And I need to sell it, like it's a service or a product or whatever. But there's so much other stuff that you need to know to run a business, especially an online business... Who Is Organizing Her Business Systems and Technology Podcast for? There is something kind of obvious where in the title it says Her. I like helping female entrepreneurs. I am a female entrepreneur, so that kind of shifts my focus towards women. But I have found that over the years when I have been helping a lot of people with their technology, I end up helping a lot of women. Maybe because they feel more comfortable with a woman. But I want to help the female entrepreneur. I want to help raise up other entrepreneurs more like myself... moms raising a family, running a household and running a business. Once again, that's who I am, so that's who I want to help. And maybe you don't have kids. Or maybe your kids are grown and out of the house. Because to tell you the truth, I'm an older mom. So most of the people I know that are my age, their kids are already grown. Some are out of the house, some are not. But they're also at this point in their lives where they want to do something more. They want to start a business. Or they've got a business going. But they want to make it more streamlined. Those are the people that I think that this is for. This episode is sponsored by my FREE Blog Post SEO Checklist. Does the term SEO make you want to scream?
