Is your home office working for you — or against you? In this solo episode, Janet Taylor, your Life Organizer, walks you through seven practical steps to take back control of your workspace, clear the clutter, and create an office environment that actually supports howyou work and live. Whether you work from home full-time, manage household paperwork, or just need a space that helps you think clearly — this episode is for you. In this episode Janet covers: Step 1: Create a retention schedule — talk to your tax professional, attorney, or financial advisor to know exactly what you need to keep and what you can finally let go. Step 2: Start with the outer areas — the corners, floor space, bookshelves, and ledges you haven't touched in months. Step 3: Clear off your desk — everything comes off, then only the daily essentials go back. Step 4: Clear the bookcase — are those books and periodicals still relevant to your life today? Step 5: Purge the filing cabinet — it should be functional, not a paper graveyard. Step 6: Find a shredding event or schedule time to shred — protect your personal information and free up space. Step 7: Repeat seasonally or quarterly — maintenance is so much easier than starting from scratch. Janet also shares this week's Organizing with Janet story — a virtual client session that started with three-and-a-half inch floppy disks and outdated binders, and ended with a fully functional, efficient workspace. Taylor's Tip Time: Set a 15-minute timer and tackle just one area of your home office this week. That is all it takes to get started. TossItTuesday: Janet is letting go of greeting cards she no longer feels attached to — some going back more than 30 years. Quote of the week: "A clear desk is not just about organization. It is a declaration that you are in control of your space, your time, and your focus." Clear the Clutter. Claim Your Power. It starts with your desk. When we hear the word clutter, we think about closets and countertops. But what about the clutter in our schedules, our thoughts, our commitments, and the expectations we place on ourselves? This episode goes deeper. Janet Taylor, your Life Organizer, welcomes back Karen Taylor Bass — returning guest, award-winning media strategist, bestselling author, certified advanced yoga instructor, and daily host of Soulful Sunrise on WURD Radio 900 AM. Karen's message is simple and powerful: you are the list. Everything else is two, three, four, five. In this conversation you will learn: What clutter really looks like in the body, the mind, and our relationships — and why stillness is the first step to clearing it. Why you do not need to work your way up to the top of the list. You belong there now. The five-minute morning practice Karen uses before she ever touches her phone — and why it changes everything. How to fast from social media and the noise that keeps you stuck living someone else's life. The journaling practice Karen uses to flood her thoughts onto the page, leave them alone, and return with fresh eyes. Why moving your body — even just walking to the mailbox — is non-negotiable for clearing mental and emotional clutter. How to give yourself grace, get still, and ask the one question that will show you exactly what you need. Organizing with Janet: A client had her passwords scattered across multiple sheets of paper — overlapping, outdated, and causing stress every time she needed to log in. One session created one clear system. That simple act of clarity gave her confidence not just in her accounts but in her entire home and life. Taylor's Tip Time: Stop looking at all the piles. Just do one thing — one drawer, one countertop, fold and put the clothes away. Small actions create momentum and momentum reduces overwhelm. TossItTuesday: Janet cleared out expired spices from the kitchen cabinet. When did you last check yours? If they are not adding flavor to your meals, they are not adding anything to your life. Quote of the week: "Clarity creates confidence." Clear the Clutter. Claim Your Power. It starts with being still. What's Your Organizational Style? Why Energy — Not Willpower — Is the Real System You've probably seen the perfectly labeled pantries, the color-coded planners, the elaborate systems all over social media. And maybe you've tried them — only to find they didn't stick. That's not a you problem. It's a mismatch problem. In this episode, Jessica and Kelly dig into one of the most underrated organizing tools out there: your own energy. Not hustle energy. Not caffeine energy. The four distinct types of energy that run your daily life — and why learning to work with them instead of against them can change everything. In This Episode, We Talk About Why organizing systems from social media often don't work for real life The four types of energy — physical, emotional, social, and creative — and why they don't all peak at the same time The difference between expectation-based living and energy-aligned living How to track your own energy patterns over five days (and what to do with what you find) Why chronic afternoon energy crashes might be worth talking to your doctor about The power of intentional social connection — and how to actually protect it How creative energy shows up in unexpected ways (meal prep, anyone?) Why matching your tasks to your energy level is the key to a sustainable life Takeaway Stop asking why am I so tired? and start asking what kind of energy is running low right now? When you understand your energy — when it peaks, when it ebbs, and what fills or drains each type — you stop fighting yourself. You start building systems that actually fit. And that's what makes life feel more manageable, not just on good days, but on the hard ones too. Burnout isn't a character flaw. It's what happens when we organize life around expectations instead of energy. This episode is your invitation to do it differently. Take the Quiz! In this heartfelt Podcast-A-Thon episode of Got Clutter? Get Organized!, Janet sits down with Mel McDaniel, Founder and Director of Marvin's Home, to explore how ordinary items — lamps, baskets, décor, linens, and even the things we call “clutter” — can become the foundation of a new beginning for young adults aging out of foster care or experiencing homelessness. Mel shares her deeply personal journey of growing up without a true sense of home, and how that inspired her mission: helping youth step into apartments that become places of comfort, identity, and dignity. You'll hear: • How Marvin's Home transforms empty apartments into warm, intentional spaces • Why passing it on can change someone's life for years to come • The emotional moment when a young adult sees their new home for the first time • The challenges of learning organization after living in survival mode • How donated items — big and small — become tools of stability and hope • Simple ways communities can support the mission, including becoming a hub Whether you're an organizer, a giver, or someone who believes in the power of home, this conversation will inspire you to look at your belongings — and your impact — in a whole new way. Cato defying Caesar. Rutilius Rufus going into exile. Marcus Aurelius on the battlefield. These were great and daring deeds of course. Lesser known of course, are the deeds of the Stoic women.
As early as this morning, I heard Prabhupāda speaking about how, when we travel, we have many requirements to get from one place to another. For instance, going to a foreign country, he said, requires a visa. He said for his, coming to America, he had to show his bonafides and he had to have some special paperwork. And he said for going anywhere, we need to prepare ourselves. It's not that just willy-nilly you can go from one place to another, nor can you willy-nilly just go back to Godhead by accident. It's a 'śīla,' it's a cultivation that one enacts in this lifetime, and one develops one's bonafides. And you get a visa and a passport and so forth. You should have your paperwork in order. Like right now, we're already thinking about just going from here to Calcutta It is a big deal, right? Say yes, otherwise, you may be left behind. I mean, you've got to figure out how much you can bring; you've got to figure out is my ticket, is it my name spelled correctly, and so forth. So there's this sense Prabhupāda was instilling in us, and I mean by this lecture he was giving this morning is, don't think that it's something that just happens if you're haphazard, but be very deliberate about it. So this verse inspires us in this way to look at the end of life. 'Ante' means the end when you leave the body and we've been reading every evening chapter of Bhagavad-gītā chapter 15 in which Kṛṣṇa gives the science of what happens when you leave your body.
