In this episode of The Private Practice Elevation Podcast, Daniel breaks down an important but often overlooked topic: why you should register your domain separately from your website builder. First, he explains the difference between a domain and web hosting in easy-to-understand terms. Think of your domain like the address of your practice online, while your web hosting is like the actual building where everything is stored. Keeping your domain registration separate from your website builder (like Squarespace or Wix) is a smart move, giving you more control over your online presence. Daniel shares why using a dedicated domain registrar, like GoDaddy or Namecheap, is better than bundling everything with your website platform. The biggest reasons? You'll have more flexibility to switch platforms when your practice grows or changes, and you'll get better security and support along the way. He also shares a real-life story about a client who ran into big problems when they needed to move their domain. Their website and email went offline for days because they had everything tied to their website builder. This could have been avoided with a simple change. By the end of the episode, you'll have a clear plan for how to set up your domain and website the right way, helping your private practice run smoothly from the start. Key Takeaways: Register your domain separately from your website builder to stay in control. It's easier to switch platforms, like moving from Squarespace to WordPress, when you use an independent domain registrar. Don't use your business email to set up your domain accounts. It's better to use a personal email so you can always access it. Companies like GoDaddy and Namecheap offer better security and support than bundling with website platforms. Real-life examples show the problems that can happen if you don't separate your domain and website accounts. Today, Marni sits down with Isabella Loneragan, founder and owner of Isabella Loneragan Skin and Ragan Skin. Isabella is a skincare industry expert with almost two decades of experience in dermatology and cosmeceuticals. She runs a private clinic in Bowral, NSW, and takes bookings in Sydney by demand. Isabella is known for her intuitive facial treatments, especially her trademarked master treatments, The Intrinsic Facial and The Intrinsic Illumination Infusion. Holistic Approach: Integrating psychological and mental health aspects into skincare treatments is crucial. Isabella emphasises that how clients feel about their skin significantly affects their overall skin health. Consumer Education: Better education around skincare products and treatments is needed. Many misconceptions, such as relying solely on AI diagnostics or using makeup with inadequate SPF, can lead to poor skin health decisions. Social Media Influence: Social media profoundly impacts perceptions of skin health and beauty. Isabella discusses the negative effects of filters and unrealistic beauty standards and suggests ways to promote skin positivity and realistic expectations. Ethical Skincare Practices: Ethical practices in skincare are vital, including avoiding harmful additives and promoting genuinely beneficial products. Isabella highlights the dangers of over-reliance on products marketed with active ingredients, especially for teenagers. And I've now worked with almost every type of website backend from Wix to Drupal, Squarespace to Joomla, Wordpress to Shopify, and I can hands down tell you that there are great... and also not so great website builders, and, page builders. You need sun protection as much as you need vitamin D. But can you have both, without skin damage or nutritional deficiency? Vitamin D is essential for our well-being, promoting bone growth and supporting a robust immune system. Deficiency in this vital nutrient can lead to a host of health issues, including osteoporosis and a weakened immune response. While our skin produces vitamin D when exposed to sunlight, many people believe that using sunscreen and other forms of sun protection can lead to vitamin D deficiency. As a result, they often resort to unprotected sun exposure to obtain adequate levels of the vitamin. However, this approach can expose them to a new set of serious health risks. For the first episode of the much-awaited comeback of the Dermhealth.Co Podcast powered by Digital Health Co, we are talking about vitamin D, sunscreen and everything in between with Mathew Collett, CEO of Solar-D Derma-Tech. Mathew shares his knowledge on the importance of balancing sun protection and vitamin D production. He explains how Solar-D technology creates sunscreens that allow the skin to produce vitamin D while still providing broad-spectrum protection. Key points covered in the episode: Vitamin D is actually a steroid hormone produced by the body when exposed to UVB light from the sun. It plays a crucial role in strengthening cells and boosting the immune system. Traditional sunscreens can inhibit vitamin D production by up to 99%, contributing to widespread vitamin D deficiency. Practitioners should educate clients on the importance of sensible sun exposure and recommend sunscreens that promote vitamin D production while still offering adequate protection. Solar-D's technology can be incorporated into various skincare products, including tinted moisturisers, face creams, and haircare products, making it a game-changer in the skincare industry. We also discuss getting the most out of boring jobs (psst — networking), the way persistence pays off and the importance of merging or blending your skills, jobs and interests rather than keeping them siloed. Finally, we stand in awe as she describes repeatedly cold calling Gayle King for some face time. It's hard out there for an entrepreneur — but it doesn't have to be hard and lonely. That's the perspective of our next guest, Laura Zug, who works tirelessly to help her clients strategically and organically build community. In short, she helps people find, communicate and nurture their biggest fans.In this episode, we dig into the many aspects of community building, including how community building has become the buzzword du jour and the way it requires slow and organic growth to succeed. Laura also shares her favorite communities for community builders (meta!) like Talkbase (she loves their founders, Tiffany Oda and Klara Losert) and the Communough community, started by consultant Yurii Lazaruk. Finally, Kelsey asks Laura about a rumor she heard, and Laura reveals the news. Valerie Gangas, author and founder of Juniper Holiday + Home on creating experiences through hospitality and community.Simply put: Valerie Gangas is a powerhouse. She owns and runs 50 — soon to be 100! — short-term rental properties through Juniper Holiday + Home, and she's also penned two amazing books on life, empowerment and spirituality. (In Deep Shift should be on everyone's nightstand.) So, we're thrilled that Val sat down with us on the latest episode of “No Surprises.” We discuss blending her love of hospitality and real estate, finding and creating moments of magic, and how watching Chip and Joanna Gaines ultimately led Valerie to start her business. She also teaches us about Culture Index and discusses the importance of bringing in specialists early in your business-building journey. Finally, after Kelsey asks the age-old question, “did it involve goats?” we learn that this animal lover once saved a deer from a fence. The duo behind the vibrant network talks about why community matters. In this episode of No Surprises, we add to the nesting dolls of the season — the community of people who have recorded our podcast about community — with Sarah Greisdorf and Sam Zelitch. This dynamic duo helms Squarespace Circle, a network of Squarespace creatives, designers and developers, and executes the annual Circle Day conference. (Our favorite day of the year!)We discuss the beautiful ouroboros of community engagement and company success, how not to take things personally, and why it's better to have a community that's loud — and possibly upset — than one that's too quiet. We also hear the Circle Day origin story, and learn why Kelsey and Mal believe running a tech agency is like Chicago improv. Finally, we reminisce about Argo Tea shops and learn that Sam's firing may or may not have brought down the company. As two of our favorite Squarespace community members, we love to sit down with Will Myers and Christy Price, whether in person at Circle Day or logging on from far-off locales like Texas (Christy) and Italy (Will). Cue the wanderlust! In this edition of No Surprises, Kelsey and Mal talk to these Squarespace leaders about their individual skill sets — including design, coding, plugins and education — and why they believe in sharing them widely. We also learn about their work partnership and how they handle issues like competition and inevitable friction. (“If you don't have friction, you're doing something wrong,” says Will.)We also discuss the arrival of the new guard, the downfall of discounting, and staying nimble with the ever-evolving Squarespace platform. Plus, Christy gives a masterclass on respectful boundary setting, as Kelsey plays the role of a difficult client.(Don't forget to check out Will and Christy's own podcast, Somewhat Useful.)You can find us at weekofthewebsite.comFollow us on Instagram @weekofthewebsiteWatch the full episode on our YouTube Channel
