Cass and Bob converse with Tony Hupp. Tony is the father of Josh Hupp, our guest on episode 158. It might be good to listen to that episode first, if you haven't already. This talk gets very emotional. Tony was in the Air Force for 24 years. He has two sons whom he loves very much and Josh was brainwashed by a cult in Tulsa, Oklahoma for several years that eventually made him forsake his family, place a restraining order on his dad, Tony, and, and the cult leaders took over as parents and overseers of the financial, romantic, and all aspects of their parishioners' lives. Tony tells the story of his attempts to rescue his son and the eventually homecoming. We taped this conversation on August 26th, 2017. We interview people you don’t know, about a subject no one wants to talk about. We hope to encourage people in the process of deconstructing their faith and help curb the loneliness that accompanies it. We think the world is a better place when more people live by sight, not by faith. Please subscribe to our podcast, and leave a review wherever you listen to podcasts. Patton Oswalt, Anderson Cooper, Susan Orlean: these are just some of the tens of thousands of followers that the parody Twitter account @NotTildaSwinton accumulated in only its the first few days of existence. Other celebrity names were tossed around as the possible brain child behind @NotTildaSwinton, but no one expected a dude on prescribed pain medication sitting in his parents' house in Washington D.C. Since he shut his creation down, Eli Yudin has parlayed his experience into a book of tweets, writing credits for SNL's Weekend Update, and employment at CollegeHumor, but Jake & Stu talk about how exactly he captured the "lightning in a bottle" that led to what some call "the best celebrity parody account ever." Steve Cooper talks with comedy Mike Rowe. Mike, as a teenager, started as a stand up comic in New York City where he performed at such notable clubs as The Improv, The Comedy Cellar and Caroline's. From there he landed a job writing jokes for SNL's Weekend Update and sketches for shows on MTV, A&E and Comedy Central. This soon brought him to Hollywood where he wrote on a comedy sketch show starring Martin Short. This led to his sitcom writing career where he wrote and produced shows for such stars as George Clooney, Ted Danson and with Eddie Murphy on his animated show, The PJ's. This launched his animation career as a writer and producer on such series as Family Guy and Futurama. Along the way he was awarded 5 Emmy nominations (with 1 win), 2 Annine Awards (with 1 win) and a WGA Award for his Futurama episode, Game of Tones. He was also co-exectuive producer on Comedy Central's animated series Brickleberry and a contributing writer on Danny McBride's animated series CHOZEN on FX. In 2013 he wrote and produced a documentary on The Improv comedy club. It starred many of the comics Mike started with like; Larry David, Ray Romano and Sarah Silverman. He still finds time to write The Comedy Central Roasts every year and he's a contributor to Vanity Fair magazine.
Katie Rich writes for SNL's Weekend Update, is an alumni of The Second City Mainstage and has performed at iO-Chicago with Carl and The Passions. Beer... Mead... Beer... Mead... Mead. That's kinda how today's show went. You've heard us talk about Main St. Homebrew for so long, and today we get Douglas Remington from Mainbrew on the show. Not only did they set us up with delicious Elysian pumpkin beers and Boneyard's Femme Fatale, but Douglas gave us a solid background on Mead, as well as plenty of the good stuff to taste. Jenny and Sean also talked about their great night at Amnesia Brewing where we met some new friends including #PDXBeerGeeks who #releasedthecurds, Portland says goodbye to Obo Addy, we presented our new theme song for the show, we're officially half a year old, SNL's Weekend Update destroyed the seasoner opener, Breaking Amish could be great, we introduced new members into the Lists of Excellence, Leonard Cohen talks too much, and what was up with Dave Matthews on Jimmy Kimmel. A big thanks to Main St. Homebrew and thanks for listening!
