In this episode of Challenge Accepted, Thomas and Frank take on a unique challenge—exploring Game Changer, the wildly inventive game show from Dropout. Frank throws Thomas into the world of Game Changer by challenging him to three episodes from season six: The Newlywed Game, Sam Says 3, and Deja Vu. The duo breaks down the show's improvisational genius, behind-the-scenes magic, and the dynamic cast of comedians and performers that make it stand out. They also discuss the broader impact of Dropout as a company, its collaborative creative environment, and how it's redefining digital entertainment. Timestamps & Topics 00:00 - Introduction and Challenge Setup 00:13 - What is Game Changer and Why Dropout is Special 00:32 - Thomas's Initial Thoughts on Game Changer 01:02 - The Three Episodes Chosen for the Challenge 02:07 - Breaking Down The Newlywed Game Episode 07:10 - Behind-the-Scenes Insights on Dropout and its Evolution 12:50 - Exploring Sam Says 3: The Ultimate Improvisation Test 19:43 - The Role of Improv and Why It's So Entertaining 26:00 - Deja Vu: The Most Creative Game Show Episode Ever? 32:14 - The Complex Production Behind Deja Vu 39:00 - The Talent and Passion Behind Dropout's Success 42:42 - Why Game Changer and Dropout Deserve More Recognition 46:30 - Next Week's Challenge and Wrapping Up Key Takeaways Game Changer is unlike any other game show—contestants don't know the rules until they play. Dropout, the streaming platform behind Game Changer, was founded by CollegeHumor alumni and is redefining digital entertainment with a mix of improv-heavy and scripted shows. The Newlywed Game showcases personal and hilarious moments between contestants and their real-life partners. Sam Says 3 highlights the high-level improvisation skills of Dropout's performers, with a fast-paced rule-stacking format. Deja Vu is a masterclass in game show production, blending storytelling, improv, and cinematic elements. Dropout's work environment fosters creativity, collaboration, and support for its cast and crew. The improvisational nature of Game Changer mirrors the success of unscripted podcasts and content, making it a refreshing and unpredictable viewing experience. Memorable Quotes "I couldn't imagine coming up with a new game every episode. That's a level of creativity that's just insane!" – Thomas "Dropout is one of the most supportive creative companies I've ever seen. The way they treat their cast and crew should be the industry standard." – Frank "You think you're watching a game show, but Deja Vu turns into a full-blown narrative experience. The level of production is unreal." – Thomas Call to Action Did you enjoy our breakdown of Game Changer? Let us know your thoughts! Leave us a review on Apple Podcasts and Spotify—it really helps us grow. Plus, tell us what Dropout show we should challenge Thomas to watch next!

Last September, CollegeHumor rebranded as Dropout. The 25-year old comedy platform made the move after a surge in subscriptions to the company's streaming platform, Dropout TV. After decades of struggling to find profitability, this became the centerpiece of its business model. “Truthfully, as a high school dropout, I never really connected with the brand name CollegeHumor,” said Dropout CEO Sam Reich. "We promised ourselves we would only do away with the name when we felt that Dropout was popular enough to eclipse it, and we feel that time is now.” Since purchasing the company for a whopping $0 in 2020, Reich has prioritized producing long-form improv content, keeping costs low and driving brand awareness through vertical videos on social media networks like TikTok. Dropout currently has 11 active series including its two most popular properties Game Changer and Dimension 20, a series where comedians actually play a live game of Dungeons & Dragons. By the end of this year, they are set to have 15 series including a live comedy special series called Dropout Presents that will launch this summer with a stand-up special from YouTuber Hank Green. The company has also ventured into live event programming for Dimension 20 in partnership with Live Nation, starting with a four-show tour of the U.K. this spring and, most impressively, leading up to a show at Madison Square Garden in January of 2025.

Jason Saenz! Comedian! Friend! Delight! Guy with a new show he's filming in LA soon called "The Wheel World"! Here's some information about Jason and his upcoming tapings! WHO: Bolivian-American comedian Jason Sáenz WHAT: Two nights taping his 1-hour show The Wheel World in front of a live, ticketed audience WHERE: THE LYRIC HYPERION THEATRE: 2106 Hyperion Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90027 WHEN: June 8 and 14 @ 7:30 PM HOW: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/the-wheel-world-with-jason-saenz-tickets-753893865847?aff=oddtdtcreator   Bolivian-American comedian Jason Sáenz is taping his hit solo show, The Wheel World at the Lyric Hyperion Theatre in Los Angeles on June 8 and 14. In The Wheel World, comedian Jason Sáenz tells the story of when he fell through a skylight onto a flight of stairs during a third date six years ago. This accident and the subsequent month-long battle against spinal meningitis in the ICU left Sáenz paralyzed.  The Wheel World presents all the grim and intimate details of becoming a paraplegic in Hollywood. Sáenz shares his struggles with grief, adapting to changes in wheelchair accessibility, accepting limitations in his new body, his wheelchair-bound TV roles, altering his perception of sex and manhood, accepting his new bathroom routines, accepting love, and finally, pursuing fatherhood. Jason's previous performances of The Wheel World have regularly sold out and he's back with special tapings set for June 8 and 14 at The Lyric Hyperion Theater in Los Angeles. The Wheel World is presented and written by Jason Sáenz and directed by Lauren Adams (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Greener Grass, Modern Family). Sáenz was a well-known figure in the comedy scene at the time of the incident, and like many comedians, he did not have insurance and was left with hundreds of thousands of dollars in medical debt but Jason was not alone. Forty of his comedian colleagues came together to fundraise to cover his medical costs through benefit shows in New York, DC, and Los Angeles; an online auction featuring tickets to a RuPaul's Drag Race season finale, Saturday Night Live, and more; and a GoFundMe that raised over $200K. Throughout this whole process he continued to write and produce comedy and date the woman he fell through a skylight with.   ABOUT JASON SÁENZ: Los Angeles-based comedian, writer, and paraplegic Jason Sáenz had a 10-year comedy career before he became paralyzed. His web series Ya Killin' Me! has two seasons available on Comedy Central.com. Jason has written for Comedy Central's Night of Too Many Stars, Steve Harvey, and MTV's Ridiculousness as well as other projects on Fox, MTV, IGN, Funny or Die, Above Average, RoofTop Comedy, Time Out NY, HuffPost, Jest, and CollegeHumor. His prank poster project @SaenzSigns went viral numerous times (Hollywood Reporter, MTV, Buzzfeed). Jason is also a founding member of the UCB sketch group, Onassis, winner of the 2011 Friar's Club Sketch Competition and a Finalist at the 2012 Comedy Central Pilot competition. About Lauren Adams: Lauren Adams is an actor, director and writer. You may recognize her from TV shows like Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Modern Family, Special, and Deadbeat, or feature films like Greener Grass and The Disruptors. Lauren has a BFA from Elon University and has performed regularly at The UCB Theatres in New York and Los Angeles since 2007. Lauren has directed countless plays, sketch shows, and the short film Animal, starring Cathy Curtin. She lives in LA with her husband Seth and their perfect dog Bear.  About this podcast conversation: We had a delightful chat! You can have a delightful listen!
