American Ground Radio
Chris Christie Picked the Worst Possible Day to Say Trump Is Losing — Iran Was Already Begging to Talk

American Ground Radio

Play Episode Listen Later Jul 28, 2026 41:51 Transcription Available

You’re listening to American Ground Radio with Stephen Parr and Louis R. Avallone. This is the full show for July 27, 2026. We open with Chris Christie's Sunday morning declaration that the Trump show is over, that Iran has learned the president's threats are just bluster, and that there are no signs the United States is winning. We explain why this is not just wrong — it is reckless. Wars are not won or lost on Sunday talk show segments. But enemies listen. They translate every word. They study our divisions and exploit them. Christie chose to go on national television and tell Tehran to hold on just a little longer on the exact weekend that Iran was sending desperate messages through dozens of third countries begging to restart negotiations — after 13 consecutive days of U.S. bombing had decimated their defense industrial base, their launchers, their radars, and their economy. When critics tell the enemy that America's resolve is crumbling, they are shaping the battlefield in a way that benefits the adversary. That is not speaking truth to power. That is threatening the men and women in uniform. In our Top 3 Things You Need to Know, President Trump attended the White House Correspondents Dinner and delivered a speech roasting CNN's Kaitlin Collins, RFK Jr., Ted Cruz, Gavin Newsom, Rosie O'Donnell, Bruce Springsteen, Chris Christie, J.B. Pritzker, and others — with the jokes about the media landing to dead silence and the Trump 2028 trolling getting the biggest reaction of the night. Then the Maine Democratic Party officially replaced Graham Plattner — who was elected by actual voters — with Troy Jackson, a party insider selected by party leaders, because Plattner's sex scandals made him unelectable. It is Kamala Harris 2024 all over again, except instead of Sleepy Joe, they had Sleazy Graham. And an ISIS-linked attacker drove a van into a crowd at a Berlin Pride parade before exiting with a machete — killing one person and injuring 29 others before being tracked down and shot by police in a Berlin suburb. We also cover Mayor Mamdani's announcement that New Yorkers should protest when Benjamin Netanyahu visits New York for the UN General Assembly — framing Netanyahu as a war criminal and architect of genocide based on an International Criminal Court warrant the United States does not recognize. We point out that the last protest near Mamdani's home was accompanied by two Muslims attempting to kill everyone in the area with homemade bombs. We also note that foreign policy is not run from city hall in Manhattan, that the Constitution is explicit about this, and that encouraging massive protests based on blood libel lies is not just constitutionally illiterate — it is dangerous. Our American Mamas Teri Netterville and Kimberly Burleson report from a campfire conversation in Wyoming — where Teri's Danish-American friend, a naturalized citizen who cannot stand Trump, was asked who she would want as the next president. Her answer: not Gavin Newsom, not AOC. Marco Rubio — because he's presidential, articulate, and could actually bring people together. Terry says that's the first moment she could picture Rubio as president. We explore the historic possibility of a Trump-Vance-Rubio sequential presidency — comparing it to Jefferson, Madison, and Monroe — and what three consecutive terms of the same political coalition would mean for the Democratic Party's long-term survival. We dig deep into the financial collapse of the Democratic National Committee — reported not by Breitbart but by the New York Times and the Huffington Post. The DNC chair reportedly threw his phone at a staffer during a meeting over the party's finances. The DNC has asked vendors to delay sending bills until after the midterms so the debt doesn't appear on the balance sheet. The party is $2 million in the hole — $18 million in debt against $16 million on hand — and has already mortgaged its national headquarters to secure a $15 million line of credit. The RNC, by contrast, has $128 million cash on hand and zero debt. President Trump's personal war chest adds another $400 million. The Democrats have no message, the message they do have isn't resonating, and the money is not coming in. We also cover Senator John Kennedy's response on CBS to questions about the SAVE Act — where he calmly explained to Margaret Brennan that election integrity requires exactly two things: prove you are who you say you are to register and vote, and get back to knowing the results on election night instead of election month. We call it exactly what it is — a bright spot. And we note that 70-80% of Americans agree with Kennedy, depending on the poll. The only people who don't are Democrat politicians afraid of their own radical base. We also cover Hakeem Jeffries telling CNN that 6,600 non-citizens being registered to vote in New Jersey — with hundreds confirmed to have voted — is not a problem, and is actually an example of Republican voter suppression. We say what needs to be said: yes, Hakeem. We are trying to suppress illegal votes. That is exactly what the SAVE Act does. If the Democrat Party needs illegal votes to win, the Democrat Party should not win. And we close with 11-year-old Nehemiah Turner of Jacksonville, Florida — who started reading books to shelter dogs at the Jacksonville Humane Society, logged 100 volunteer hours becoming the first person in the program to reach that milestone, became a straight-A student in the process, and has now set his sights on 200 hours. The dogs get comfort. Nehemiah gets better at reading. Everybody wins. May your pursuit of happiness bring you joy. David Waldman and Greg Dworkin are here to summarize the chaos of the weekend. I, in turn, summarize that into this tiny nutritious pellet for your consumption. The worst thing about White House Correspondents Dinner is that they feel that they have to keep telling us about it. The only news ever is its chronic persistence. The White House press corps could have stood up, but they came to sit down. Donald K. Trump told jokes, explained the jokes, then posted AI explainers of the jokes and the hilarity feels like it just might never stop. Laura Loomer is not Lauren Boebert, Anna Paulina Luna, or even Sid Rosenberg, but if she read it the internet, she would believe it. Once decided, Laura changes her mind less often than Donald changes his diaper, so it's a shock to see her come out for Ukraine. Tim Pool also flips on Ukraine. Must be something in the water. Bold and brilliant military strategists Donald and Pete ran out of ammunition and requested a time out. Pete Hegseth gets rid of generals faster than Vladimir Putin. Generic Dems lead, and Gop enthusiasms are gone, but as the midterms near it is expected that Republicans will be trying to destroy the elections and Democrats will try to destroy themselves. Their enemy, as always, are Progressives. Senate Gop candidate Mike Rogers is rooting for Abdul El-Sayed for a number of reasons, most of them obvious. The thing is, Black voters are also against El-Sayed. Maine has put the recent unpleasantness behind them and are now ready to decide the future of progressive populism for all mankind. The real enemy, as always, are political consultants. Political consultants want to make the past great again. California's primary vote count might have been slow, but 150 thousand voters were slower. People like voting by mail, though. Brazil worries about Trump rigging their elections. Blue state Minnesota burns because DOGE told them to "drop dead". People that Elon Musk doesn't think about simply do not exist… which sure gives you a clear idea of the future of "Universal Basic Income", doesn't it?

This week on Eat Drink Smoke, Tony and Fingers review the Stoic Equanimity Justice, a hefty 6x52 cigar with an Ecuadorian Corojo wrapper, Dominican Criollo 98 binder, and a flavor profile that brings spice, cedar, earth, richness, and a truly ridiculous amount of heft. It is the kind of cigar that makes you wonder whether you should smoke it or use it to break out of a locked car. The drink this week is Jacob's Pardon Small Batch American Whiskey Batch #2, coming in at 109.3 proof. Tony and Fingers find vanilla, brown sugar, oak, butterscotch, a little heat, and enough flavor to make it a serious contender for the year-end list. Also on the show: Beyond Meat wants to become a protein drink company. Is that a smart pivot, or should they lean into brisket-flavored beverages and shock the world? Tony and Fingers talk summer foods, ribs, grilling, watermelon feta orzo salad, frozen grapes, and why kale should maybe just go directly into the trash. Plus, bourbon layoffs continue as the industry faces a serious slowdown. Is it tariffs, changing drinking habits, GLP-1 drugs, oversupply, or all of the above? The guys break it down. The Trust told him to get bent.     Trump's shakedown of the IRS hit a snag as a federal judge in Florida said she may not have jurisdiction over a case where the plaintiff and the defendant are the same person — Donald Trump.   And EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin is being so weird at Congress. Is he bad at law, or just lying?   MAIN SHOW:    It's a courtroom brawl between Elon Musk and Sam Altman over the past and future of AI. Musk claims he was swindled out of seed money by claims that OpenAI would be operated as a non-profit, only to watch the company pivot to a trillion-dollar for-profit enterprise. The jury is empaneled, and the trial begins this week.     The Supreme Court heard oral argument Monday in Chatrie v. US. The case involves law enforcement's use of "geofencing" data to find criminal suspects based on their cell phone location data. Should the government have to get a warrant to collect that info? Welcome to Last Call, a look at the biggest stories Jim and Greg covered over the past week on the 3 Martini Lunch. This week, Jim was away and his National Review colleague Charles C.W. filled in for three days. This week, Charlie and Greg highlight he Trump administration's escalating crackdown on Medicare and Medicaid fraud, the dangerous Democratic push to expand the U.S. Supreme Court, the disturbing number of people who think the Trump assassination attempts were staged, and North Korea's new nuclear policy.First, Charlie and Greg applaud Vice President JD Vance and CMS Director Mehmet Oz for taking a tougher stance against Medicare and Medicaid fraud. The administration announced it is deferring $1.3 billion in Medicare reimbursements to California over concerns the state is failing to combat fraud effectively. Vance warns other states could face similar consequences, while Oz explains the huge benefits we could see from greatly reducing fraud.Next, Charlie goes deeper into his condemnation of Democrats openly plotting to expand the U.S. Supreme Court by enough seats to give the left a likely majority. Charlie explains why he believes that would be the most damaging event to our constitutional order since the Civil War.Then, they're horrified that a third of Democrats believe the attempted White House Correspondents Dinner shooting was staged. And even more of them believe the shooting in Butler, Pennsylvania - where Trump actually got shot - was staged. Charlie and Greg discuss the relentless conspiracies in our politics and whether there's a way to reverse the trend. Finally, they comment on North Korea's new law that if another nation kills or incapacitates Kim Jong-Un, North Korea would "automatically and immediately" launch nuclear weapons. Please visit our great sponsors:CalotrenIf you're looking for the missing piece-Calotren is it. Today's Headlines: The Iran ceasefire is on "massive life support" per Trump, while Iran's foreign minister insists their latest proposal was reasonable — and the administration responded by sanctioning 12 companies helping ship Iranian oil to China, days before Trump flies to Beijing to meet Xi Jinping, where that will definitely not be awkward. This is further complicated by reports that China was preparing to deliver new air defense systems to Iran last month, meaning both China and Russia are now actively supporting Iran, great. On the Hantavirus front, 18 Americans from the cruise are back in the US, at least 2 appear infected, and the other 16 are being monitored at a federally funded biocontainment facility in Nebraska — the WHO still says global risk is low and this is not another COVID. In other news, Trump's plan to paint the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool "American flag blue" was quoted at $1.8 million — it's actually $13.1 million, no other contractors were allowed to bid, and the justification was that delays would cause "serious injury to the government." Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy filmed a road trip reality show visiting historic landmarks, which a watchdog group alleges was sponsored by Toyota, Boeing, and United Airlines — companies he's supposed to regulate — through a conveniently named nonprofit funded by auto companies. Meanwhile, Republican Rep. Max Miller was accused in court filings of throwing boiling water on his ex-wife while their 2-year-old was present — also not his first abuse accusation, having previously been accused of assault by then-White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham in 2020. Texas sued Netflix for spying on children, collecting user data without consent, selling viewing habits to data brokers, and designing the platform to be addictive — Netflix says the lawsuit lacks merit. The guy who stormed the White House Correspondents Dinner pleaded not guilty, with his attorneys arguing that both acting AG Todd Blanche and Jeanine Pirro should recuse themselves since they were both at the dinner. And finally, NBC is launching a Wordle game show hosted by Savannah Guthrie and Jimmy Fallon.  Resources/Articles mentioned: AP News: Passengers from virus-stricken cruise ship fly to home countries for monitoring CNN: Live updates: Trump says ceasefire with Iran on ‘massive life support' after he rejects Tehran's proposal NYT: Reflecting Pool Repairs to Cost $13.1 Million. Join Charlie and Greg as they break down the Democrats' latest overt attacks on our courts, Congress considering a federal gas tax holiday, the disturbing number of people who think the Trump assassination attempts were staged, and North Korea's new nuclear policy.First, they react to California Gov. Gavin Newsom accusing the U.S. Supreme Court of exercising "raw power politics" and raising questions about its legitimacy because the justices allowed Alabama to change its congressional map. Meanwhile, House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries is vowing "massive" judicial reforms if Democrats get back in power. Charlie explains what's really happening here.Next, there's a movement in Congress to suspend the federal gas tax for 90 days. Charlie explains why he sees this more as a gimmick than a solution to high prices. But he also reveals why he's glad to see Congress doing this even though he opposes the bill. Then, they're horrified that a third of Democrats believe the attempted White House Correspondents Dinner shooting was staged. And even more of them believe the shooting in Butler, Pennsylvania - where Trump actually got shot - was staged. As King Charles's high-stakes visit collides with Trump's ego and obsession with optics, the contrast between royal discipline and White House dysfunction becomes impossible to ignore, especially against the backdrop of a White House Correspondents Dinner thrown into literal and political turmoil. But of course the White House is still trying to sell it as one (its 'protocol director' insists it was "the hand of God" again; its deputy chief of staff tried to start another 'USA!' chant after the incident). Even though proximity is the definition of such a nightmare scenario. Saturday Night? Obama had 15 of those. Still, among my fellow Americans who are NOT in the Trump Mass Hypnosis Cult, I may be in the minority because I DON’T think it was staged. Why are you so cynical? Just because an hour beforehand Karoline Leavitt told Fox quote “There will be some shots fired tonight!” That’s a coincidence. Just because Trump has gone insane about his quote “militarily top secret ballroom” and the next thing you know he’s GOING to a ballroom and after that the Secret Service screws up security AT the ballroom and after THAT he’s holding a press conference saying this is WHY he needs that ballroom and all his sock puppets are tweeting about the ballroom. Coincidence! Just because Trump and his filth have lied to you about every THING, every DAY, for 11 years… that’s no reason for you to think that was STAGED. It’s a coincidence! It’s all a coincidence. ALSO: for God's sake stop saying there's no room for violence in American politics and we don't resolve our differences this way! Certainly we all wish that were true. But in point of fact there's room for almost nothing BUT violence in American politics! Ask JFK, Reagan, Teddy Roosevelt, Franklin Roosevelt, Garfield, Lincoln, McKinley, dozens of others! What was the Civil War if not political violence? B-Block (28:00) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: The Staten Island cop who has reportedly amassed more than 500 speeding tickets, and last year averaged one every other day. Jeff Bezos' Washington Post will only print a letter to the editor responding to its editorial if the authors take out the references TO Jeff Bezos. And Tom Cotton makes a hilarious mistake: Iran will meet its match not on the battlefield but at the bargaining table because it's never faced the author of "Art Of The Deal." Who's gonna tell him? C-Block (41:00) MONDAYS WITH THURBER: We need a break from media people talking about themselves so let's drop "Things I Promised Not To Tell" and instead read you his wonderful, weird, slightly spooky "The Black Magic Of Barney Haller."
