Today, I am blessed to have here with me James Barry. He is a highly accomplished chef and entrepreneur with over 16 years of experience in the culinary field. He began his career as a private chef before becoming the vegan/vegetarian chef on the Van's Warped Tour, where he cooked for artists and crew members during the tour's 50-city run. After the tour, Chef James returned to Los Angeles and worked as a private chef for celebrities such as Tom Cruise, George Clooney, and Barbra Streisand.  In addition to his private chef work, Chef James founded Wholesome2Go, a healthy food delivery company that served the Los Angeles area under his leadership for eight years. His dedication to healthy and tasty cooking led him to launch Pluck, an organ-based, all-purpose seasoning that is the first of its kind. The seasoning is an easy and delicious way for people to incorporate organ meats into their diet and has garnered positive reviews from health experts and food enthusiasts alike.  Chef James has also co-authored several recipe books, including Eat Naked and The Naked Foods Cookbook with Margaret Floyd and Clean 7 with Dr Alejandro Junger. His commitment to healthy cooking and innovative culinary creations has made him a respected figure in the food industry. His work has been featured in various publications, including Forbes, Thrive Global, and MindBodyGreen.  In this episode, James Barry dives into organ meats and what you need to know about nutrients that organ meats have that are better than muscle meats. Plus, James explains how organ meats can positively affect modern-day diseases. Tune in as we chat about the importance of the five organ meats, sourcing organ meats, and James's nutritional advice. [05:33] The Amazing Health Benefits of Eating Organ Meat ·       Eating organ meats provides nutrient density, including vitamins and minerals essential for the body. ·       Organ meats contain blood, fat, and other elements that were brand new to our species and contributed to the increase in brain size and development of language. ·       Our species evolved when we started incorporating organ meats into our diet, and this cannot be denied. ·       Eating organ meats is important for overall health and well-being; without them, our bodies may not have developed to their current state.  [09:42] The Problem With Keto & Carnivore: Too Much Muscle Meat! During the war, there was a protein shortage, and the government invested in a campaign to promote alternative protein sources, including organ meats. To make organ meats more appealing, they were renamed "variety meats." When women entered the workforce, there was more household income, and people started to prefer more expensive cuts of meat, contributing to the decline in demand for organ meats. People prefer muscle meat over organ meat because of the loss of familiarity and taste. Thus, local markets no longer carry organ meat, making it harder to source. The most nutrient-dense parts of the animal, such as organ meats, are considered not for human consumption and are used in other industries, which leads to a need for supplements and other sources of nutrients. [22:16] Creative Ways to Use Eat Pluck to Enhance The Nutritional Profile of Your Food! The five organ meats (liver, heart, kidney, spleen, pancreas) are important because, in the past, when tribes slaughtered animals, they would only have limited amounts of these organs, which were often given to those who were pregnant, sick, or children. Eating nose to tail is important to get the full range of nutrients from the whole animal. Eating nutrition is better than swallowing because it bypasses the digestive process and immediately responds to the body's needs. The body immediately responds to the nutrient-dense properties of organ meats, much like the way it responds to salt. Kids enjoy eating organ meats and may crave them because their bodies recognize the nutrients they provide. [39:52] Can Organ Meat Put a Dent in Disease?  ·   Eating organ meats is an ancestral concept supporting different body parts. ·   Modern diseases like dementia, Alzheimer's, thyroid issues, and lung problems may be related to the lack of consumption of organ meats. ·   Eating organ meats may positively impact overall energy and nutrition. ·       Feeling better in your body may lead to treating others better and creating a better world. What happens when you take two up-and-coming stars (George Clooney, Jennifer Lopez), a talented director (Steven Soderbergh) eager to break out from smaller indie films at the time, a screenplay adapted from one of THE premiere crime novelists (Elmore Leonard) of our time, and have them collaborate with a top-flight cast filled with talent (Dennis Farina, Don Cheadle, Steve Zahn, among several others) along with some next-level talent behind the camera including the Oscar-winning editor (Anne Coates) of seminal classics like Lawrence of Arabia?  You get a smart, stylish, suspenseful, and sexy crime drama which is about to turn twenty-five and remains a career highpoint for several involved. Clooney plays Jack, a career bank-robber who has recently escaped from prison and his path crosses with Karen played by Lopez who is a Federal Marshall out to bring him and others in for their crimes....but they also happen to like each other. :o And from a story standpoint,  that's all you need to know - the rest is cinematic history. Host: Geoff Gershon  Editors: Geoff and Ella GershonProducer: Marlene Gershonhttps://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/

Confessions of a Closet Romantic
Sexy Dad Bod: the Evolution of George Clooney

Confessions of a Closet Romantic

What more could be said about witty, gorgeous George Clooney? For a long time now, George has been a worthy modern day Cary Grant, with all of the bantering sexy suave of that classic film icon. But I've noticed in more recent roles that George is moving into his rumpled cargo shorts phase (with just the slightest potbelly, still ridiculously attractive) as he adds more and more father figure roles to his hot little filmography.https://www.confessionsofaclosetromantic.comMoviesThis vintage trailer makes Room for One More sound like a sexually charged romp with the parents of a family of young kids, which it really isn't (thankfully). Though a desperate Cary Grant craving alone time with his wife for some private adult fun is quite the subtle and sexy subplot. There's some icky sexist late 1950s patriarchal stuff in Houseboat but it doesn't take away from the chemistry between luminous Sophia Loren and gorgeous Cary Grant, who fall for each other as they team up to care for his motherless children.Penny Serenade is a romantic melodrama that punches all of the right buttons, a story about a couple (Irene Dunne and Cary Grant) who can't get pregnant and decide to adopt a baby, with all of the struggle and heartbreak — and joy — that follows. The child who plays their daughter is insanely adorable.Out of Sight is one of those amusing action-packed sexy capers that succeeds because of the fantastic ensemble acting and lively direction. As the two unlikely romantic leads, Jennifer Lopez and George Clooney —and director Steven Soderbergh —knock it out of the park. This movie is still memorable more than 25 years later.Much like the Rat Pack original, the Ocean's Eleven remake is packed to the rafters with stylish, sexy, attractive actors projecting that super-fun-when-it's-fictional alpha male energy. George Clooney, as the insanely handsome, smooth, cocky and confident con man ringleader, is at his peak here. The sad yet funny tone and deep themes of The Descendants coupled with the low-key, authentic performances and Hawaiian music underscoring the emotion, turn this movie into a quiet masterpiece. A young Shailene Woodley won awards and industry recognition for her portrayal of George Clooney's daughter Alex.Ticket to Paradise is completely predictable but also surprising in some ways, with amazing chemistry between the romantic leads and the excellent ensemble cast, which is how all good romcoms should be.Support the showIf you enjoyed this episode, please click share in your podcast app and tell your friends! The Dating Game… The Newlywed Game… The Gong Show. Chuck Barris created some of TV's most enduring and beloved game shows, at one point supplying network TV with 27 hours worth of game-show programming a week.  Did he also work as a contract killer for the CIA, assassinating government targets during the 1960s and 1970s? According to his 1984 book “Confessions of a Dangerous Mind,” and the 2002 movie directed by George Clooney, that's exactly what Chuck Barris did. In the film, he's portrayed as murdering 33 people while also holding down a full-time job producing game shows.  But was it true? Doctor Max Jacobson, whom the Secret Service under President John F. Kennedy code-named “Dr. Feelgood,” developed a unique “energy formula” that altered the paths of some of the twentieth century's most iconic figures, including President and Jackie Kennedy, Marilyn Monroe, Frank Sinatra, and Elvis. JFK received his first injection (a special mix of “vitamins and hormones,” according to Jacobson) just before his first debate with Vice President Richard Nixon. The shot into JFK's throat not only cured his laryngitis, but also diminished the pain in his back, allowed him to stand up straighter, and invigorated the tired candidate. Kennedy demolished Nixon in that first debate and turned a tide of skepticism about Kennedy into an audience that appreciated his energy and crispness. What JFK didn't know then was that the injections were actually powerful doses of a combination of highly addictive liquid methamphetamine and steroids.Author and researcher Rick Lertzman and New York Times bestselling author Bill Birnes reveal heretofore unpublished material about the mysterious Dr. Feelgood. Through well-researched prose and interviews with celebrities including George Clooney, Jerry Lewis, Yogi Berra, and Sid Caesar, the authors reveal Jacobson's vast influence on events such as the assassination of JFK, the Cuban Missile Crisis, the Kennedy-Khrushchev Vienna Summit, the murder of Marilyn Monroe, the filming of the C. B. DeMille classic The Ten Commandments, and the work of many of the great artists of that era. Jacobson destroyed the lives of several famous patients in the entertainment industry and accidentally killed his own wife, Nina, with an overdose of his formula.

We bring the 2nd Unit back to dip our toes into Development Hell once again...kind of! As a pseudo-sequel of our Superman Lives episodes, we dig into the history of what was supposed to be Justice League: Mortal, the short-lived but fascinating first attempt at the superhero team-up. Directed by George Miller, written by Kieran and Michelle Mulroney, and starring a surprisingly young cast including Armie Hammer, Common, and Jay Baruchel, this goofy comic-book-accurate project met insurmountable obstacles on the way to production. We break down the full cast and story of this project (thanks in large part to cast interviews, articles from Collider, and the great work of the Canceled Movie Report podcast), go over a brief history of the Justice League, and explore the biggest reasons for this film's collapse: the Australian government and the 2007-2008 Writers' Guild of America strike. We marvel at the gambit of casting such young actors for such iconic adult roles, give a brief lesson on rabies symptoms, hypothesize future advancements in villainous tracking technology, have a fun discussion on currency conversion rates and tax credits, subject you to some truly awful Batman voices, remind you that Jack is still trying to track down a VHS copy of Nukie to torture Joe with, bring awareness to the pitfalls of bad acronyms/initialisms, Jack plugs his latest creative project, and we ask a question we've been wondering for some time: do the members of the Justice League all share a tailor? While technology has brought us closer in many ways, it has also made it harder for us to find meaningful face-to-face interactions.
