Welcome to Ep 163: Low Tech, No Tech Accessibility Considerations with Sarah Silverman. Sarah Silverman, PhD is an independent faculty developer and instructor of Disability Studies. As an autistic educator, she has a personal stake in Neurodiversity as well as extensive college teaching and faculty development experience. Her interests include accessible and feminist pedagogy, Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and the history of the neurodiversity movement. Her book Classroom Mindscapes: An Introduction to Neurodiversity for Educators is forthcoming from the University of Oklahoma Press in September. In this conversation, Sarah and I discuss options for faculty members who are considering low tech, no tech, or more analog classroom activities or educational environments. We talk about access friction and decisions that might need to be considered in order to meet the needs of current students with competing access and technology needs. Sarah has been recently working on this topic and will have an upcoming workshop on this on July 21st. If you are listening to this podcast before or after that date in 2026, you'll be able to find the sign-up or the results of that session in this episode's resource section just before the transcript on ThinkUDL.org. You'll also be able to find the other resources we mention throughout the conversation there.
The prolific screenwriter, David Silverman, is back on StoryBeat for the second time. David has written for stars like Robin Williams, Bob Newhart, Rosanne Barr, Drew Carey, Sarah Silverman, Pee Wee Herman, and others. David has co-created 5 TV series and written and produced on more than 30 different series, including hugely popular shows like Newhart, Roseanne, One Day at a Time, The Jeffersons, Alice, Dilbert, and South Park.David co-created The Wild Thornberrys, which spawned two feature films: The Wild Thornberrys Movie and Rugrats Go Wild. Other feature films David has co-written include Stepping Out, Purple Haze, and The Flintstones Movie. As a Stanford-educated psychotherapist, David's treated and coached aspiring writers, many of whom have gone on to sell their own feature films and TV shows.David and his wife Rogena, who is also a writer and editor, recently collaborated on their excellent book, How to Be a Rockstar Screenwriter, which contains some of the best advice I've read on the mindset that ambitious screen and TV writers need to succeed. Unlike most books on screenwriting, How to Be a Rockstar Screenwriter is filled with solid advice for those dealing with the challenging psychological issues facing writers who wish to work in Hollywood, as well as for those who are already successful screenwriters. I urge anyone hoping to make it as a professional writer in Hollywood to check out this very wise book. For the record, David and I have known one another for many decades, connected by our mutual friend, the late, great Steve Sustarsic. David and Steve were a well-known, highly successful sit-com writing team. They wrote and produced hundreds of TV scripts together.
Outspoken and controversial writer-producer Dan Harmon went from performing improv in his hometown of Milwaukee to creating hit television shows like “Community” and Adult Swim's “Rick and Morty.” Dan joined Gilbert and Frank for a candid and revealing conversation about the perils of celebrity, how his various neuroses fuel his creativity and why he chose to launch his own podcast (the popular “Harmontown”) instead of going to therapy. Also: Dan pays “homage” to Bill Cosby, gets canned by Sarah Silverman, creates the cult show “Heat Vision and Jack” and locks horns with comedy hero-turned-antagonist Chevy Chase. PLUS: “Manimal”! “Misfits of Science”! “The Streisand Effect”! Gilbert hangs with Charlie Sheen! And Dan receives a VERY special delivery! Learn more about your ad choices. This week's podcast has a strict "no touching" policy as we delve into a real missed opportunity of an episode that sees Bart fall in love with a girl named Nikki (voiced by Sarah Silverman). Meanwhile, Lisa feels sad (again) because she's an over-achiever.We discuss how the main story could (and should) have expanded to a town-wide situation and not simply focus on the Bart/Nikki relationship, our first kiss and more.Support the show on Patreon at patreon.com/fourfingerdiscountListen on Spotify - spoti.fi/4fDcSY0Listen on Apple Podcasts - apple.co/4dgpW3ZCHECK OUT OUR OTHER PODCASTS:Goin' Down To South Park - spreaker.com/show/goin-down-to-south-parkThe Movie Guide with Maltin & Davis - themovieguidepodcast.comThe One About Friends - spreaker.com/show/the-one-about-friends-podcastTalking Seinfeld - spreaker.com/show/talking-seinfeldSpeaKing Of The Hill - spreaker.com/show/speaking-of-the-hill-a-king-of-the-hill-The Office Talk - spreaker.com/show/the-office-talk-podcastBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/four-finger-discount-simpsons-podcast--5828977/support.

Johnny Mac delivers daily comedy news, leading with John Mulaney's Night of Too Many Stars set featuring sobriety jokes and an extended impression of RFK Jr., while a report calls out Matt Rife for homophobic material. The benefit also included a celebrity band, The Very White Stripes (Conan O'Brien, Jon Stewart, Jimmy Kimmel, and Abby Romeo), plus appearances by Bill Burr, Steve Carell, Nikki Glaser, Tiffany Haddish, Sarah Silverman, Ali Wong, and others. Mac notes little coverage of Dave Chappelle's Netflix Is a Joke shows, and mentions Pete Davidson taping his Netflix show with Mulaney. He previews Josh Johnson's HBO special (May 22) and Dan Soder's first Netflix special taping (June 13). He critiques the Kevin Hart roast's lack of star power, recaps Katt Williams, Tony Hinchcliffe, The Rock, and Chelsea Handler–Shane Gillis moments, and adds quick items on Nish Kumar, Ricky Gervais' animated Alley Cats (Aug 7), and Bill Bailey praising King Charles' wit. 00:16 Mulaney Does RFK Jr02:41 Night of Too Many Stars Recap03:44 Chappelle Shows Missing03:56 Pete Davidson Show Tape04:08 New Specials and Taping05:13 Roast Star Power Debate06:00 Katt Williams Roast Set06:55 Roast Jokes and Feud08:05 Tony and Pete Controversy08:58 Chelsea and Shane Clash10:01 More Comedy Headlines10:53 Wrap Up and Sign OffBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/daily-comedy-news-with-johnny-mac-a-daily-briefing-on-comedians-and-the-comedy-industry--4522158/support.Daily Comedy News is the number one comedy news podcast, delivering daily coverage of standup comedy, late night television, comedy specials, tours, and the business of comedy.COMEDY SURVIVOR in the facebook group.Contact John at John@thesharkdeck dot com For Uninterrupted Listening, use the Apple Podcast App and click the banner that says Uninterrupted Listening. $4.99/month John's Substack about media is free. This is the animal sanctuary mentioned in the February 10 episode.
#427 Retribution - Richard is hoping to get a bridge named after him in Great Yarmouth and hopefully his fans will do better than they did in getting him nominated for a British Comedy Award. It's an incredible guest to start the new series, making his first appearance in almost 10 years, Stephen Merchant. Stephen has some questions for Richard about his first stint on the podcast and Richard doesn't really have any answers. But after a bit of squirming the pair get talking about meeting your heroes, your parents meeting your heroes, how an omelette was the clincher in getting Christopher Walken on to The Outlaws, the KLF style destruction of a Banksy, the Herring's Eye, the surprising news that drugs can be quite good fun, how Stephen made an impression at a Sarah Silverman party and his move into serious acting. Are they friends again by the end? The Hollywood Reporter and Vanity Fair weigh in on Louis C.K.'s return to Netflix, including quotes and observations about the audience. A boundary-breaking astrophysicist reimagines the universe-and our place within it-in this audacious journey through the Nine Realms of the cosmos."This book explains the universe and then quietly explains you. Which is unfair, because I was just trying to read about space. . . . Smart, funny, and unexpectedly moving."-Sarah Silverman, comedianThe universe gave rise to everything: stars and cells, minds and memories, purpose and pain. But it doesn't care about us. It follows its own rules. And now, according to Dr. Hakeem Oluseyi, we finally understand enough about those rules to ask the big questions like we mean it: Why do we exist? Are we alone? How did we get here? What comes next? And-perhaps most urgently-is there reason to hope?Heck yeah, there is!Dr. Oluseyi is no ordinary scientist. A former street kid turned world-renowned cosmologist, he realized something bold: The story of existence can be told as a passage through nine interwoven realms-each revealing a new layer of cosmic truth. There's the Middle Realm, where we live; the Realm of Life, where organisms flourish across the vastness of space; the Cosmological Realm, where galaxies dance and collide; the Dark Realm, dominated by unseen energy and invisible forces; the Quantum Realm, where reality defies intuition; the Temporal Realm, where time begins, flows, and perhaps ends; the Multiverse Realm, where our universe may be one among many; the Realm Beyond Horizons, where observation breaks down; and the Realm of Imagination, where insight, curiosity, and creativity shape our understanding of it all.In Why Do We Exist?, Dr. Oluseyi cracks open these realms with clarity, humor, and radical honesty, bridging cutting-edge physics, personal narrative, and philosophy. The result is a blueprint for understanding reality itself and a surprising case for human potential in an indifferent cosmos.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.

This week on How to Survive, Danielle and Kristine learn how to survive losing your ability to speak — laryngitis, vocal strain, and the singer's worst nightmare… growths. Then, Gary Mann joins to share his experience navigating Standards & Practices during his time on The Sarah Silverman Program, when a performer's voice was challenged in a very different way.
Mike unlocks two interviews from the vault featuring comics who navigate the cultural minefield with very different styles. First, Sarah Silverman discusses her evolution from "arrogant ignoramus" character comedy to earnest podcasting, reflecting on her blackface controversy, her embrace of the "Bernie bro" label, and why she believes being wrong never feels shitty if you're willing to learn. Then, Kyle Kinane joins to talk about his special Loose in Chicago, the specific pain of being a Cubs fan (pre-World Series win), and his low-stakes conspiracy theories about Trader Joe's parking lots. To access the full episode, click through here and sign up for Patreon today! “I hate how Henry talks to his mother, it sounds like he's dating her” - Eric On this patrons-only We Hate Movies episode, we're finally discussing one of the most requested titles in show history, The Book of Henry! How terrible is this story trajectory? How obnoxious is the titular Henry? Why was this the only way forward this supposed kid genius could think up to solve this problem with the neighbors? How depressingly wasted is Dean Norris in this movie? Does Sarah Silverman's character have a thing for the kid? And why did they even bother having this Lee Pace doctor character come back into the movie? PLUS: How about we start auditioning a little more thoroughly for these school talent shows, huh? The Book of Henry stars Naomi Watts, Jaeden Martell, Jacob Tremblay, Dean Norris, Lee Pace, Maddie Ziegler, Tonya Pinkins, Bobby Moynihan, and Sarah Silverman as Sheila; directed by Colin Trevorrow.
