Sell Yourself and Your Mortgage Business by Pursuing Your Passions w/ Jason Turner – Episode 147

On this episode of Broker to Broker, host JP Hussey learns about video content creation and how to pursue your own niche by the Broker Owner of Navigator Mortgage Brokers, Jason Turner. Jason has over a decade of experience in the mortgage industry, and over that time, has become one of the community's leading VA loan experts, as well as one of the most consistent content creators in the wholesale channel. Jason shares how he pursued and found his niche, which has led him to strong, business-growing relationships, as well as the basis for his marketing strategy. Jason shares his secret to how he's able to post high-level content so consistently: “My content day is Monday. I'll actually bring a bunch of different shirts to the office and then just change my shirt, adjust the camera angle, and then it looks like it's a different day where I do stuff off the cuff. I see a question online, I'll do a real quick-hitter - I like to create my content all at once, just to have it done. I get it recorded, edited, and then posted and just spread it out through the week.” Jason shares his strategy for the rest of the week: “I like to plan on my content, and I actually do a lot of research online to see what other people are interested in or talking about. And then let me talk about that. What do the people want and what do they want to learn about? And then bam, here's my timely take on that.” Jason also shares his wisdom on how he was able to get over the hump of creating and releasing content: “Do what you're passionate about - I'm passionate about the VA space, so it's very easy for me to get behind my passion and then speak about it. So if you're fired up about it, the nerves fall to the wayside. So if you do what you're passionate about, it's going to be really easy.” Jason's advice for great business networking, knowledge building, and business growth are one and the same. “Target a niche. You can't be everything to everybody. People know me as a VA guy. If I talk to a bunch of realtors and I sell everything that I have, I'm really not selling anything. But if I sell myself and what I do as a specialty, and then they have that need, then they think of me. So I would absolutely recommend going deep in a niche for whatever people want to do.” Key Points: 2:50 From Laid Off, to Loan Processing, to going Independent 6:09 Opening up Shop during 2020 9:03 From Retail to Broker & the Tools of Wholesale 15:23 Expertise in VA Loans & Debunking VA Myths 22:51 Marketing and the Importance of Video Content Creation 30:05 Overcoming Yourself to Produce Relevant and Consistent Content This episode is sponsored by AIME Member Portal (AMP)

We're joined today by Chad Kincer, who expounds on Paul's words about God-glorifying singleness.

The Word for Everyday Disciples with Dave DeSelm

Not only are you a unique person, but you were also made for a unique purpose.  One of the factors in discovering that purpose, or “calling,” is understanding your PASSIONS. Another is unwrapping your GIFTS.   Today we come to the third element. Your STORY - those past experiences (both good and bad) that marked you and even made you into what you are today.   One of the finest illustrations of how a story was used for God's glory is that of the Old Testament character of Joseph. As you read his story beginning in Genesis 37, we see how God never wastes anything – even those pieces that are most painful. In many ways, his story is an illustration of the truth of Romans 8:28:  “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.” Everyone has a story.  God is not only the Creator of our life – He is also the Author of our life.  And each chapter passes through the editing of His permissive will. NOTHING happens to you that He is not aware of and ultimately in control over.  To be sure, there's all sorts of mystery in that. But in looking at the life of Joseph and holding on to the truth of Romans 8:28, we can know that our story is not “a tale told by an idiot, signifying nothing” but rather a journey of purpose even though it's filled with seasons of pain. In order to mine the meaning from your past, you will need to examine both your good and bad experiences through some thoughtful reflection. Ask these questions: ·      What positive experiences have I had that God might want to use? What are the mountain tops in the landscape of your story? What are the everyday things that helped shape you into who you are today? ·      What painful experiences have I had that God might want to use? What are the valleys in your life's landscape? How have they formed your beliefs and values? ·      What do you think your experiences have done within you that might point toward your calling? What do your positive and painful experiences have in common? The connections between the joy and the sorrow may be the themes that God wants to use to reveal His glory through you. Author Dan Allender wrote: “If you want to know the will of God for your life, look behind you. Your future is meant to be written in light of the patterns of the past.”  Want to explore your story?Download the “My Story” worksheet and spend some time exploring how your past shapes your unique calling.   Text: Genesis 37 ff, Romans 8:28 Originally recorded on November 22, 2009, at Fellowship Missionary Church, Fort Wayne, IN.

The Word for Everyday Disciples with Dave DeSelm

As you seek to discover your unique purpose, one way to go about it might be to think of three circles. Label them your PASSIONS, your GIFTS, and your STORY. Where those circles overlap often point to a person's calling. In this message, we're going to talk about our GIFTS.Spiritual gifts are special abilities distributed by the Holy Spirit to every believer according to God's design for the common good of the Body of Christ.Let's break that sentence down to gain a greater understanding. Spiritual gifts are special abilities distributed by the Holy Spirit… A spiritual gift goes well beyond talent. It is a supernatural enabling that may go “hand in glove” with your natural talent, but it accomplishes well beyond what mere talent ever could.  The New Testament lists some of these gifts in 1 Corinthians 12, Romans 12, and Ephesians 4. Here is a compilation:Administration            Apostleship                       Craftsmanship                 Discernment                     Encouragement               Evangelism                      Faith                                  Giving                              Helps                               Hospitality                      IntercessionInterpretationKnowledgeLeadershipMercyProphecyShepherdingTeaching  Tongues WisdomThese spiritual gifts are given…to every believer.Everyone who has come to know Christ has been given at least one spiritual gift.  Think of it: you are a gifted child! Spiritual gifts are distributed …according to God's design. He knew just what gift would bring Him the most glory through you and at the same time bring you the satisfaction and joy that your one and only life was making an eternal difference.  He knows you that well, and He loves you that much. The gifts are given…for the common good of the Body of Christ. The Holy Spirit's gifts are never given for individual gratification but to enrich the community. So, how do you unwrap your gifts? 1.     Ask these questions: Where do I find great fulfillment? Where do I find great fruitfulness? 2.     Take a spiritual gift inventory. Though not foolproof, they can be a helpful resource. Here is a link to a FREE ONLINE TEST.  3.     Try something. Often discovering our spiritual gifts is a matter of trial and error.   Text: 1 Corinthians 12:1, 4-11Originally recorded on November 15, 2009, at Fellowship Missionary Church, Fort Wayne, IN.

The Word for Everyday Disciples with Dave DeSelm

God made you unique. Your very fingerprint shows that there is no one else like you.  You are one of a kind! As a unique person, you were brought into this world for a unique purpose.   So how does one discover what that purpose is? How do you find your unique calling? One way to go about that might be to think of three circles. Label them your PASSIONS, your GIFTS, and your STORY. Where those circles overlap often point to a person's calling. In this message, we're going to talk about our PASSIONS. The dictionary defines passion this way:Passion -  a powerful or compelling emotion or feeling; a strong enthusiasm or desire for something As creatures made in the image of a passionate God, we are by our very nature passionate.  We were hardwired with this need to give ourselves fully and enthusiastically to something. We see this worked out all the time in all sorts of ways.  Some people are passionate about golf or French cooking. There are those who are passionate about genealogy or growing roses.  But we sense God's smile when we become engaged in that which mirrors His passion: putting a broken world back together. It's when your passion takes that direction that you get that glorious sense that “I was made for this!”So, how do you start to identify your passions? There are two questions you can begin to grapple with that, over time, may provide you with some answers.  What really captivates me?  What sort of activity brings you deep feelings of fulfillment and a profound sense of meaning? When have those times been when you thought, “I loved that!”? What do you find yourself talking about, studying about, reading about, or dreaming about?Write those things in your PASSIONS circle. They may not necessarily seem “Kingdom-oriented.” That's ok!  Just brainstorm. Better yet, ask someone who knows you well. Here's a second question:What really frustrates me?I'm not talking about personal pet peeves here. Rather, what is it that when you see it, you say to yourself, “That is wrong!  Somebody should do something about that.”Add those things to your circle. Still not sure what your passions are? Ask God about it. He's the one who gave you these passions and He's the one who wants to see you use those passions for His glory. He can help you identify yours. Here's a sample prayer:Dear God, I desperately want to honor You with my life.  You have placed passions in my heart to guide me into your calling for my life.  Please reveal those passions to me and give me the power to live by the.  I ask this in Jesus' name and for the glory of His Kingdom.  Amen. Text: Psalm 139:13-16; Eph. 2:10Originally recorded on November 8, 2009, at Fellowship Missionary Church, Fort Wayne, IN.

In today's episode of the Brains Byte Back podcast Eugene Garla, VP of Talent at Index, a company building a global talent platform of vetted full-time remote engineers, joins us to discuss how enterprises can stop treating tech talent like handymen, and make them loyal in the long term. In the episode Garla shares why employers need to shift their perspective when it comes to remote work, advocating that no longer is this working style strictly for digital nomads traveling the world. Instead, he argues that those who work remotely should be seen as equal to other types of employees and that the only difference, for many, is the fact that they do not go to an office. Garla also encourages those looking to hire remote workers to be transparent with their job advertisements. He highlights that promising tech talent can be discouraged when jobs advertise themselves as remote but instead offer hybrid work with the expectation that they regularly come into the office. Additionally, Garla explains why it is important to take into consideration the passions and interests of the tech talent you are interviewing to understand what drives them, instead of primarily looking at their skills. As Garla puts it not all developers are passionate about crypto and making another coin. And finally, Garla, who speaks four languages, shares advice and tips on how to learn a new language.

The Word for Everyday Disciples with Dave DeSelm

When you look at a tombstone, you often see two dates – the date of the person's birth and their date of death. In between is this little line. A dash.  When you think about it, you have no control over either date. The only thing you have any say about is your dash - how you will live your life. Call it your “dash” of life.  The word is appropriate because life is quite short. The Bible refers to life as a vapor.  It's here for just a short time and then it's gone. And once it is, all that will be left here will be your legacy – that which you will be remembered for after you're gone.Sadly, all too many people go through life with no sense of purpose. It's just “same old, same old” day after day. But it doesn't have to be that way. You were made for so much more! Psalm 139:13-16 says that you were skillfully, wonderfully, and purposely made! You were custom-designed by a Master-Craftsman. The uniqueness of your fingerprint sends that message clearly. There will never be another you.  Moreover, as a unique person, you were brought into this world for a unique purpose. God has a plan and a purpose for you. You have been given a calling. Songwriter Darlene Zschech recognized this when she said that the two greatest days of a person's life are the day they were born and the day they discover why they were born.So how does one do that?  How do you find what your unique calling is?  In this series, we're going to explore how your unique PASSIONS, GIFTS, and STORY play a role in this. Where these three converge is where the calling of your life explodes in spontaneous spiritual combustion.    REFLECTIONTake some time to reflect on your legacy. Ask yourself: How would I want these statements to be completed? People will say that I stood for...I made a difference in this world by...God was glorified because I...People knew I loved them because I...The reason I expect God to say “well done” is...Text: Psalm 139:13-16; Eph. 2:10Originally recorded on November 1, 2009, at Fellowship Missionary Church, Fort Wayne, IN.
