Jesus knew that knowledge wasn't enough to give meaning and purpose to life. He didn't come to earth just to heal a few people or to teach a few lessons on morality or good manners. He didn't even come just to die on a cross so that sinners could go to heaven someday. Jesus came to teach men and women what it means to be fully human. He came to win our hearts and change us from the inside out.

Think "following your calling" will require you to take a pay cut and waste all your past experience? THINK AGAIN! Before working together, Jaymie was burnt out in her software engineering job. Her old sense of being a bright high-achiever had been worn down over the years into a lack of motivation that spurred her to the realization that it was time to make a change. Her story is one of God showing up in the biggest and seemingly impossible ways in the career story you get to hear today. In this episode, you'll hear Jaymie share: How she went from majoring in education, to becoming a software engineer, to wishing she could be a teacher but knowing she couldn't because of the income she needed to make for her family and other life circumstances God called to her - then to the crazy moment when God made it all work and provided in spades Her story of learning NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE TO GOD - Just ask and pair your prayers with strategic action The honest fears and doubts that came up along the way Why she almost didn't work with me, but why she's glad she did Details about how she got through a technical interview she didn't know all the answers for How she negotiated her salary for the first time and landed an unprecedented 15% pay raise within her company And what it was about The Calling Academy that made a difference with it all Go send Jaymie some love on LinkedIn after you listen to this episode! Follow your passion might be one of the most misinterpreted phrases ever; it doesn't mean "spend your time eating chips and watching movies," it means to focus on what you are good at and enjoy doing, and find a job where you can do that. If you are handy and don't like reading, don't pursue a law degree; if you are not handy and love reading, don't be a mechanic. For the first time in the show's history, we have an attorney as a guest, Mark Hijar. Mark is an expert in cutting-edge approaches to supply chain management and federal procurement compliance. He is a successful entrepreneur, Founder of ProcureLinx, and a dear friend. His firm, ProcureLinx, created the first and only CPSR-Compliant Internal Audit Software For Government Contractors. This system provides government contractors with tools that turn the Contractor Purchasing System Review process, the most challenging business system review conducted by the US Government, into a smooth and easy-to-conduct procedure. In this episode, Mark shared his journey into becoming a lawyer, then a consultant, and a lobbyist, what he calls the DC's unholy triangle. He also shared the details of how they came up with the CPSR - Compliant Internal Audit Software to help small businesses become Government contractors. We also talk about one of Mark's passions, writing, the book he is working on, and his positive mindset to deal with life challenges, and, in his words, "trust the process." Finally, Mark gifted us with valuable insights and suggestions for young professionals to follow their dreams and trailblaze their way up in their industries. Some Questions I Ask:You went to JMU. * Paths in Depth: The Outcast * Development background for the path. * Originally the “Outcast Warrior” racial Discipline for trolls. * Very tied into highland troll concepts of honor as presented in the original Denizens of Earthdawn. * Path leans into the idea of an individual sacrificing something in the name of honor and gaining magical power in return. * Unlike other paths, no greater organization or structure. Intensely personal. * Review of three aspects of troll honor. * Comparison to Asimov's Laws of Robotics. * Ka'tosh – a category of honor Outcasts hold that is considered higher than the other aspects. * Starting as an Outcast versus having it develop during a campaign. * Doesn't necessarily warp the narrative the way some paths do. * Very heavy on the story and role-play. * Discussion of the essay and opposing points of view. * Pop culture references. * Josh disputes Dan's focus on redemption rather than sacrifice. * Becoming an Outcast. * Discipline affinities. * Passions and Questors. * Possibility of becoming eligible for the Path before Circle 5. * Ordeals and Advancement. * Outcast Half-Magic. * Path bonuses. * Path talents; new talent: Rite of Khopesh. * Honor points. * Outcast Path Knacks. Some time ago, the legal scholar, veterinary surgeon, and Homo sapiens Charles Foster spent a few weeks in the woods trying to live like a badger, a deer, a swift, an otter, and a fox, hoping to understand animal consciousness. That book, Being a Beast, now finds its unlikely sequel in Being a Human, in which Foster attempts the perhaps more difficult task of reconstructing the human consciousness of millennia ago. He settles on three pivotal turns in our history: the Paleolithic and Neolithic eras, and, far more recently, the Enlightenment. How does one escape the constraints of modern thought—of written language, digital technology, creature comfort—in pursuit of the origins of modern consciousness? Foster joins the podcast to report on his quest in the woods of northern England, and beyond.Go beyond the episode:Charles Foster's Being a Human: Adventures in Forty Thousand Years of Consciousness, and Being a Beast: Adventures Across the Species DivideFor another complicating view on humanity's adventures in and out of agriculture, check out David Graeber and David Wengrow's The Dawn of EverythingThinking in words has its perks: read Emily Fox Gordon on “How I Learned to Talk”If our current era is an extension of the Enlightenment, as Foster argues, we might need to cling to our ideals of humanism a bit more in the struggle against social media, per James McWilliams in “Saving the Self in the Age of the Selfie”Tune in every week to catch interviews with the liveliest voices from literature, the arts, sciences, history, and public affairs; reports on cutting-edge works in progress; long-form narratives; and compelling excerpts from new books. Instead, she writes in her upcoming book Harness Your Inner CEO that it's possible to enjoy the "season" you're in without overwhelming yourself with to-dos.  She can speak to: - The Power of "And": Life doesn't have to be a series of "or's". How to give yourself permission to be multifaceted - you can be a career badass AND the best mom on the planet - Balance is BS: Instead of letting your calendar rule your life, allow yourself to evolve organically. If you're too rushed off your feet to exercise today, that's okay!
