Week after week, we've been singing and praying the words of the song The Blessing. But where did these words come from, and why have they mattered to us the last three years, and what do they mean for our lives moving forward?
Whether we realize it or not, the legacies of other people's lives continue to impact our lives and faith daily. Each year, Christians across the globe celebrate All Saint's Day to honor those legacies. What can the saints of our past teach us about today and the legacies we will leave behind in the future for others?
We know now that God is FOR God's people. God took it a step further, though, demonstrating through Jesus that God is also WITH us. What impact has this truth had on our community to not only be FOR each other but also WITH each other?
For the last three years, Uptown Church has been a place that is For people. Yes, all people. But where does that value come from? How do we know God is really for all people? Let's look at a Bible story that demonstrates just what, or who, Jesus is really for.
As we celebrate these last two years as a church, we reflect on all God had done and is doing in our lives. There are so many stories of transformation to share and celebrate. Looking forward, we pray and dream about what God will continue to do in our community and our individual lives.
What is the best meal you've ever had? Chances are, you remember the people at the table and the conversation as much as, or more than the actual meal. The best dinner parties often have less to do with food and more to do with the company. It turns out, there is a lot of similarity between a great dinner party and the church. Join us as we continue our FOR the Love series to explore how we live out our mission as the church (not just Uptown Church, but as the people of God in the world).
In this sermon series, we explore our mission as Uptown Church and the entire Christian church. "For The Love" stands at the center of the gospel message of Jesus.
In this second of a two-part conversation on how to teach the Book of Romans, Michael J. Kruger, president and professor of New Testament and early Christianity at Reformed Theological Seminary (RTS), Charlotte, shares some of what he's learned over the past two years through teaching Romans to a women's Bible study. Kruger works his way from Romans 8–16, explaining how to do justice to the majestic themes in chapter 8, why Paul presents election not as a problem but as the solution to a greater problem, and how Paul guides us through the complexities of the Christian life in chapters 12–15.In addition to his duties at RTS, Kruger served (at the time of recording) as an associate pastor of Uptown Church in Charlotte. He blogs at Canon Fodder on the origins of the New Testament canon and other biblical and theological issues. Kruger is editor and contributor to A Biblical-Theological Introduction to the New Testament and author of both Canon Revisited: Establishing the Origins and Authority of the New Testament Books and also The Heresy of Orthodoxy: How Contemporary Culture's Fascination with Diversity has Reshaped Our Understanding of Early Christianity, co-authored with Andreas Köstenberger. On Romans, Kruger recommends:Romans (The Crossway Classic Commentaries) by Charles HodgeThe Epistle to the Romans (The New International Commentary on the New Testament) by John MurrayThe Epistle to the Romans (The New International Commentary on the New Testament) by Douglas MooRomans International Critical Commentary (two-volume set) by C. God’s purpose for our lives will always lead us to serve and edify other people in the church. My guest today never imagined she would be writing Bible studies or leading women towards discipleship, but by faithfully following God’s call on her life, that is exactly where she landed. Today on the show is Melissa Kruger, a writer, editor, disciple maker, and Jesus-follower who is living out her purpose in a mighty way. Melissa is a writer focused on bringing the principles of strong discipleship to women across the world. She is a regular contributor to the Gospel Coalition and is on staff with Uptown Church in Charlotte, North Carolina. Her favorite role so far has been to be a mother to her 3 kids, a wife to her husband, and a sister who points others to Jesus faithfully. Melissa has found her purpose in making the Word of God accessible to women who are seeking after Him. After noticing that there was a gap in women’s discipleship and Bible Study material, Melissa felt God calling her to bridge that gap. Filling that needled others to notice her gift for writing, and then the rest is history. Today, we had the chance to talk about the importance of studying God’s Word, finding joy in all circumstances, and what it takes to be a working writer. More in this episode: The more we learn about Christ, the more we grow and the more our church grows. Melissa draws strength from Isaiah 55 and God’s invitation to life. Discover Melissa’s untraditional journey to becoming a writer. You can start your purpose journey later in life! Melissa stepped into the gap to write excellent Bible study material. What it was like to plant a church. The moment Melissa realized she was called to write. How to learn how to say “No.” Discover the heart behind Melissa’s new book!
