Introduction: Salutation and Greeting (1:1-2)• Paul the Apostle - passing on faithful ministry • God our Savior - not Artemis or Caesar• Timothy - the next generation of ministryProblem: The False Teachers' Perversion of the Law (1:3-7)False teachers are full of confidence, arrogance, and error.• False teachers focus on fantasies rather than faith (1:3-5).• False teachers use the Scripture but do not use it correctly (1:6-7).Solution: The Proper Use of the Law (1:8-11)The function of the law is to convict sinners, not guide saints.• The proper use of the law is not to guide believers (1:8-9a).• The proper use of the law is to convict sinners of sin (1:9b-10). • The proper use of the law is compatible with the gospel (1:11).Priority: The Centrality of Grace for the Ministry of Paul (1:12-17)The grace of God manifest in Christ Jesus is the epicenter of the gospel. • The grace of God allows us to serve Him with gratitude (1:12).• The abundant grace of God flows to sinful people (1:13-14).• The gospel truth is that Christ Jesus came to save sinners (1:15-16). • The grace of the gospel leads to the praise of God (1:17).God has designed the church to be a stronghold of truth and champion of the grace of God in the gospel. Here is wisdom for the local church in every generation and in every place. Let no one say that scripture is out of date. Calvin, when dedicating his commentary to the Duke of Somerset in 1556 called this letter"highly relevant to our times". All these years later, we can make the same claim. What are some key passages that talk about Jesus' resurrection? Why is it important we affirm this historical event when Jesus rose from the grave? The Present Resurrection4. What are some of the benefits we can experience today because of Jesus' resurrection? 5. In Eph 1:18-23 Paul talks about how we can experience resurrection power today. How have you experienced resurrection power in your life? What area in your life needs to experience this benefit today? The Future Resurrection6. 1 Cor 15:20 refers to Jesus' resurrection as the “firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.” What are you looking most forward to about experiencing the future resurrection and having a resurrection body? Why is it important that we think and talk about this future hope we have in Christ?7. DA Carson said, “I am not suffering from anything that a good, general resurrection can't fix.” What are you looking most forward to being “fixed” by our future resurrection in Christ?8. If you aren't a student but just having a busy week, these can be useful for you as well. 1) Consider spaced rather than massed studying (spread out your studying rather than studying all at once) 2) Plan out your breaks 3) Eat healthy 4) Exercise (and don't beat yourself up if it's like 10 minutes a day) and 5) Study smarter, not harder! Listen for my tips and the app I was talking about where you grow trees is called the Forest app! Happy studying!

Jesus's resurrection, the Living One, just as the Scriptures proclaimed!Scripture Study today:Matthew 28Mark 16Luke 24John 20:1-25Feel free to share this post and this study with anyone you'd like as we celebrate our Savior!
Jesus's body is in the tomb, the chief priests and Pharisees gather with Pilate for another request to seal the tomb and make it secure. Pilate grants their request and the tomb is sealed and guarded…Scripture Study for today:Matthew 27:62-66Luke 23:56Feel free to share this post and this study with anyone you'd like as we progress through the week!
Jesus fulfills Scripture in His crucifixion. Today unfolds more of God's divine plan. His betrayer Judas, returns the blood money that buys the Potter field, Jesus is sent to Pilate & Herod who neither find guilt in Him, His garments are gambled for as prophesied, Jesus is scourged, beaten, and mocked by the Roman soldiers before heading to Golgotha to pay the ultimate price for our sin. He is crucified on a Roman cross and does it all willingly, and lays down His life for His sheep. He lays down His life as He proclaimed He would written in John 10, and He will raise it up again. Sunday's coming…Scripture Study today:Matthew 27:1-61Mark 15:1-47Luke 22:63 - 23:56John 18:28 - 19:42Also readings today from “One Perfect Life” by John MacArthur a harmonizing of the Gospels. Feel free to share this post and this study with anyone you'd like as we progress through the week!
The Lord Jesus sends His disciples to prepare the for them to eat the Passover in Jerusalem. During the institution of the Lord's Supper we continue to practice today, Jesus washes the disciples feet and predicts His betrayal. John records much teaching Jesus gives His disciples that will comfort them and us today as we read. Jesus prays and is in agony in the garden, just before He is betrayed, arrested, the disciples scatter, Peter denies Jesus, and today comes to a close as He is mocked and accused of blasphemy by the religious leaders…all leading up to Friday's events where He will pay the ultimate price for our sin. Scripture Study today:Matthew 26:17-75Mark 14:12-72Luke 22:7-64John 13:1 - 18:27Feel free to share this post and this study with anyone you'd like as we progress through the week!
Today we pick up in Mark 11 as Jesus and His disciples are coming back into town. It's a longer episode today as we look into many teachings Jesus spoke that are recorded in the gospels for us to see. He and the religious leaders seem to go on a constant back and forth as we look at lots of exchanges today, and then close out with Jesus teaching the disciples of His second coming and His crucifixion. As well Judas and the religious leaders began their plot to betray and kill Jesus. Scripture Study today:Matthew 21:18 - 26:16Mark 11:20 - 14:10Luke 20:1 - 22:6John 12Feel free to share this post and this study with anyone you'd like as we progress through the week!
Jesus and His disciples come back into Jerusalem and as Jesus enters the temple, He sees much that shouldn't be. As He drives out all those who were buying and selling in the temple as opposed to worshiping He quotes Isaiah 56:7, and Jeremiah 7:11. “And He began to teach and say to them, “Is it not written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer for all the nations'? But you have made it a robber's den.” (Mark 11:17). Jesus displays another teaching moment today where again He poses the question “Is it not written?” as He teaches, and even still the chief priests and scribes seek to destroy Him. Scripture Study today:Matthew 21: 12-22Mark 11: 12-19Luke 19: 45-48John 12Feel free to share this post and this study with anyone you'd like as we progress through the week!
Today we will look at the Triumphal Entry. In John 11:55-56, some were asking “Will Jesus come to the feast?” As He enters Jerusalem it appears that question will be answered. Jesus sends His disciples into town to find a donkey, He is praised by the people as He enters Jerusalem, has another encounter with the Pharisees. Jesus wept over the city of Jerusalem and He enters the temple late in the day before He and the disciples leave for Bethany for the night. Scripture Study today:Matthew 21: 1-11Mark 11: 1-11Luke 19: 28-44John 11-12Feel free to share this post and this study with anyone you'd like as we progress through the week!
Welcome to our daily study this week as we all go through Passion Week or Holy Week! This week we wanted to offer a study that looks at the events of Passion Week, beginning on this Sunday (Palm Sunday), then a near daily drop through the week, and finishing up on Easter Sunday (Resurrection Sunday). During the study this week we will provide a reading of the Scriptures, commentary of that Scripture, as well as additional reading from each of the gospels as we work through the week! We hope you can join us this week each day and encourage you to take time to have your Bible open and able to read along as we go through each day! Feel free to share this post and this study with anyone you'd like as we approach this coming Easter Sunday!

On Thursday's Mornings with Eric and Brigitte, author Kim Erickson guides us through a 6-week study of Isaiah beginning with the prophecies of Isaiah. Through these prophecies, God was telling the people of Judah how He was going to keep a promise He made to King David. Even when hard and challenging things happen to us, God can bring up a shoot of life, something new and good, out of our difficult circumstances. He is always working "behind the scenes" to bring us into our future glory. This life is only temporary. Another time is coming.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

When battling anxiety, fear, and depression, countless people have turned to the Psalms for comfort. In them, we read raw and honest emotion, soul-deep prayers, and about a God who sees, cares, and has the power to lead us to greater freedom. While fighting cancer, guest Becky Harling learned to use praise, often guided by what she read in the psalms, to fight her fear and increase her peace. In this episode, she shared her experiences and the Bible study God prompted her to write: The Extraordinary Power of Praise: A 6-Week Study of the Psalms for the Anxious Heart. Join Dawn and Steve in the Morning for a devotional from Blackaby Ministries International about having sympathy with God when God acts in judgment. Then Ananias, hearing these words, fell down and breathed his last. So great fear came upon all those who heard these things. On Wednesday's Mornings with Eric and Brigitte, author and Bible teacher, Kim Erickson joins us to tell us how deeply personal this teaching and study was and how it transformed her life after her young son's death. "Reading so many words that actually came true, some hundreds of years later, confirmed the character of God for me. I let go of human logic. I let go of the paralysis of analysis. The focus of this study—Isaiah's prophecies regarding Christ—reveal so much about God: His power, His nature, His plans. We can trust Him to do what He says He is going to do. In this second of a two-part conversation on how to teach the Book of Romans, Michael J. Kruger, president and professor of New Testament and early Christianity at Reformed Theological Seminary (RTS), Charlotte, shares some of what he's learned over the past two years through teaching Romans to a women's Bible study. Kruger works his way from Romans 8–16, explaining how to do justice to the majestic themes in chapter 8, why Paul presents election not as a problem but as the solution to a greater problem, and how Paul guides us through the complexities of the Christian life in chapters 12–15.In addition to his duties at RTS, Kruger served (at the time of recording) as an associate pastor of Uptown Church in Charlotte. He blogs at Canon Fodder on the origins of the New Testament canon and other biblical and theological issues. Kruger is editor and contributor to A Biblical-Theological Introduction to the New Testament and author of both Canon Revisited: Establishing the Origins and Authority of the New Testament Books and also The Heresy of Orthodoxy: How Contemporary Culture's Fascination with Diversity has Reshaped Our Understanding of Early Christianity, co-authored with Andreas Köstenberger. On Romans, Kruger recommends:Romans (The Crossway Classic Commentaries) by Charles HodgeThe Epistle to the Romans (The New International Commentary on the New Testament) by John MurrayThe Epistle to the Romans (The New International Commentary on the New Testament) by Douglas MooRomans International Critical Commentary (two-volume set) by C. In this episode, Nancy talked with Paul House in Birmingham, Alabama, where he teaches Old Testament theology and Hebrew at Beeson Divinity School. House is the author of several books, including The Unity of the Twelve, Old Testament Survey, Old Testament Theology, Lamentations in the Word Biblical Commentary series, and Bonhoeffer's Seminary Vision. He has also served as a member of the Translation Oversight Committee for the English Standard Version Bible. The Book of Jeremiah is 5 percent of the entire Bible, but House provides practical help on how to organize and what to emphasize in order to teach this book in just a few weeks. He also gives insight into the social and spiritual realities of Judah in Jeremiah's day, which remarkably reflect social and spiritual realities in our own.Additional Print and Audio Resources:Jeremiah and Lamentations: From Sorrow to Hope by Philip Graham RykenJeremiah: A 12-Week Study by Matthew S. In this episode of Help Me Teach the Bible, Nancy talked with Phillip Jensen at his Two Ways Ministries office in the heart of Sydney, Australia. Over a lifetime, Jensen's ministry has centered around the exposition of the Scriptures. He served as chaplain for the University of New South Wales, offered leadership to the Katoomba Christian Convention, founded Matthias Media, and most recently served as dean of St. Andrews Cathedral in Sydney. To teach 1 Timothy, Jensen suggests we begin not at the outset of the letter but at the center, where Paul's purpose for writing is stated clearly (1 Tim. 3:15) and should, therefore, inform our teaching throughout. Jensen challenges our preconceived understandings of “the mystery of godliness,” and provides a framework for understanding Paul's teaching in 1 Timothy 2 about the proper behavior of men and women in the church.Print and audio resources on 1 Timothy:1–2 Timothy and Titus: A 12-Week Study by Brian Tabb1–2 Timothy and Titus: To Guard the Deposit by Bryan ChapellExalting Jesus in 1 and 2 Timothy and Titus by David Platt and Daniel AkinSermons on 1 Timothy by Phillip JensenSermons on 1 Timothy by Dick LucasSermons on 1 Timothy by Alistair BeggBooks by Phillip Jensen:Guidance and the Voice of GodTwo Ways to Live pamphlet
