On Graduate Sunday, Pastor Jared Richard opened Exodus 20:12 to walk the entire congregation — not just the seniors — through the fifth commandment: "Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you." He was careful to note that "honor" carries far more weight than simple obedience. Drawing from the Hebrew word meaning heavy or weighty — the same word used to describe the glory of God — Pastor Jared showed that to honor our parents is to take seriously the God-given authority and position they hold in our lives. Following John Calvin's framework, he identified three Marks of true honor: reverence, obedience, and gratitude. He also traced how this honor looks different at each stage of life, from the young child obeying in the home, to the teenager seeking counsel, to the adult caring for aging parents — pointing to Matthew 15 where Jesus himself condemned those who neglected their parents in old age. Pastor Jared pressed the congregation toward the gospel as the only real answer to our failure to keep this commandment. He reminded the church that Adam was a rebellious son, Israel was a rebellious son, and we are rebellious sons and daughters. But Jesus was the faithful Son — perfectly honoring his heavenly Father all the way to the cross and perfectly honoring his earthly mother even while dying. It is only by being united to Christ, the one who kept the law we have broken, that we can be forgiven as rebellious children and empowered to become faithful sons and daughters — both to God and to our parents. Pastor Patrick Austin opens with a warm and relatable childhood memory — sneaking a peek at the Sunday sports section before church — to introduce what he calls one of the most misunderstood and most neglected of the Ten Commandments: "Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy" (Exodus 20:8). Rather than offering a checklist of what is and isn't allowed on Sundays, Pastor Patrick reframes the entire conversation. God has graciously given us a day of rest, he argues, not as a burden to bear, but as a gift designed for our good and for His glory. In a world addicted to busyness, productivity, and the constant buzz of notifications, we have drifted far from God's good design of work and rest — and in doing so, we are missing out on something far greater than a day off. At the heart of the sermon, Pastor Patrick walks through three ways this day of rest functions as a gracious gift. First, it positions us rightly before God, reminding us weekly that He is the Creator, the Provider, and our Savior — and we are not. Second, it points us to the Lord of the Sabbath, Jesus Christ, who in Matthew 11:28-30 extends an open invitation to cease striving and find true rest in Him. Third, drawing from Hebrews 4, it prepares us for the eternal rest that is still to come — a rest that no promised land, no vacation, and no Sunday afternoon nap can fully satisfy. The weekly rhythm of rest is a foretaste of heaven itself. Pastor Patrick closes with practical and pastoral wisdom for how believers at Bay Leaf Baptist Church can honor the Lord's Day — by gathering faithfully for worship, showing mercy to others as Jesus did, working diligently during the week, and resting well on Sundays. With refreshing honesty, he shares his own struggle as a self-described control freak who had to learn — sometimes painfully — that his rest is not found in his work or his striving, but in Christ and in Christ alone. What happens when a CEO with a young family decides to ride 2,000 miles from Mexico to Canada in 13 days to serve families he's never met? Matt King is the CEO of GoBundance, a mastermind for entrepreneurial men, and a dad to three young kids. He wasn't a cyclist. Five and a half months ago, he had never ridden more than 10 miles on a bike. Then he stood on a stage in November and announced he was going to ride 2,000 miles from Mexico to Canada in May to raise $1 million for families along the route. He told everyone before he told his wife. Before he had ever trained. Before he even owned the right bike. In this conversation with Jon, Matt opens up about why he's doing this, what it's teaching him about fatherhood, service, and modeling hard things for his kids, and what he's learned about himself along the way. He talks about the morning he quit at 3:30 a.m. in the middle of a training ride. The $100,000 donation that stopped him in the middle of a 150-mile day. The families he's already helped before the ride has even started. And why he believes the world doesn't give you permission to do meaningful things. You have to give it to yourself. The ride starts May 27th. As of recording, Matt has already raised over $481,000. Every dollar goes directly to families along the route. In This Interview: → Why Matt chose a bike instead of a car or plane to find families who need help → The morning he quit at 3:30 a.m. and what got him back on the bike → How GoBundance members are deploying as "secret agents" into cities along the route to find stories → Why his five-year-old son is his biggest fan and what that's taught him about modeling → The difference between living a legacy and leaving one → Why he tracks "return on joy" instead of return on investment → The role David Osborne played in shaping who Matt has become → How to handle the doubt, fatigue, and criticism that comes when you commit to something hard → Why oversharing might be costing you, and how to use your intuition to know what to share → The conversation he has with himself when he wants to quit (and the framework that gets him through) Next Step: The ride starts May 27th. You can follow the journey, sign up to ride with Matt at any point along the route, nominate a family who needs help, or donate to the mission at the link below. If this story moved you, the simplest thing you can do is share it with one dad who needs to hear it. Back the Ride: gobundance.com/theride
In this message from Exodus 20:7, Pastor Jared Richard continues Bay Leaf Baptist Church's series through the Ten Commandments by turning the congregation's attention to the Third Commandment: "You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain." Using a word association exercise with names like Billy Graham, Mother Teresa, and Adolf Hitler, Pastor Jared establishes that names are far more than titles — they represent the full weight of a person's life and character. Because God's name, Yahweh, is a revealed, personal, and representative name that encapsulates all of who He is, it carries a holiness that demands our deepest reverence. As Exodus 3:15 declares, "This is my name forever, and thus I am to be remembered throughout all generations." Pastor Jared then walks through the many ways God's people misuse His name, going well beyond the obvious offense of profanity. Drawing from the Old Testament, he identifies three ancient patterns of misuse — sorcery, false prophecy, and false oaths — and shows how each has a modern equivalent. The prosperity gospel, for instance, mirrors ancient sorcery by invoking God's name as a tool to claim health and wealth, effectively turning the relationship between God and man into a transaction. False prophecy lives on whenever someone attaches "God said" to their own spiritual intuition or personal agenda, and false oaths persist whenever we use God's name to prop up promises we have no intention of keeping. Ultimately, Pastor Jared anchors the sermon in the gospel. Every person in the room has broken this commandment and stands guilty before God. But Jesus, who declared in John 12:28 that His aim in going to the cross was to glorify the Father's name, perfectly honored what we have profaned. He was condemned for blasphemy so that blasphemers could be forgiven. Because of Christ, we are now free to hallow God's name as we were created to — calling upon it in worship, prayer, and lives of genuine integrity that reflect the Lord we claim. Preaching through Exodus 20:4-6 on Mother's Day, Pastor Jared Richard makes the case that the Second Commandment is far more relevant to parenting than it might first appear. While the First Commandment addresses the who of worship — worship the right God — the Second Commandment addresses the how — worship the right God in the right way. God's generational language within the command makes His intention unmistakably clear: faithful worship is meant to be passed down from one generation to the next. As Deuteronomy 6:4-9 reminds us, parents are commissioned to imprint God's commands on their own hearts and then impress them upon the hearts of their children. That, Pastor Jared argues, is the number one calling of every mom and dad. Pastor Jared then walks through three lies that idolatry tells about God — that He can be limited, that He can be managed, and that He can be accessed on our own terms rather than His. Using the golden calf of Exodus 32 as a vivid illustration, he shows how even well-intentioned worship can become deeply offensive to God when it distorts who He is. He applies this to the modern church as well, warning against picking and choosing which attributes of God we're comfortable with, and even cautioning that worship music itself can become idolatrous when we treat it as the mediator of God's presence rather than Jesus. The sermon closes with the Gospel promise embedded in the commandment itself. The curse falls upon those who hate God to the third and fourth generation, but the blessing falls upon the faithful for a thousand generations — an exponentially greater promise. Pastor Jared points to Jesus as the only one who ever worshiped the Father in complete faithfulness, and through His death and resurrection, His faithful worship is applied to all who repent and believe. The call to parents is clear: love the Lord your God with everything you have, and love Him so visibly and so joyfully that your children want what you have. WE'D LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU! Bridging Two Countries, One Mission: Cesar and Nora Hernandez Fight for Spanish-Speaking CF Families “When Alex was diagnosed, we felt fear and responsibility. If we had access to information in Spanish, other families should too. No one should feel lost because of language.” Nora Hernandez From Mexico to Mission: How Cesar and Nora Hernandez Are Closing the CF Information Gap for Hispanic Families. “I came to this country to build a better future for my family. I never imagined that future would include fighting for awareness about cystic fibrosis, but now it's part of our mission.” Cesar Hernandez Cesar and Nora Hernandez were both born in Mexico, where accurate and accessible information about cystic fibrosis has not always been readily available. While progress is being made, with more experienced physicians and improving CF care, there is still significant work to do. In the United States, members of the Hispanic community are often underdiagnosed or diagnosed later than others. That gap in awareness and access is one of the reasons The Bonnell Foundation launched its CF Familia page, offering reliable information in both English and Spanish to help families navigate the complexities of cystic fibrosis. Cesar and Nora serve as ambassadors for this effort, creating videos that provide education, updates, and reassurance to Spanish-speaking families. Cesar also serves as a board member of The Bonnell Foundation, and we are deeply grateful for his leadership and heart for this community. Cesar originally came to the United States to build a better life and financially support his family in Mexico. After meeting Nora, he made the decision to stay and make the U.S. his permanent home. Together, they are raising two children, Scarlett and Alex, who was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis. Their story is one of resilience, faith, cultural pride, and advocacy. One Mission, One Mind | Matthew 4:19 | Pastor Will Cover
The Midrash at the beginning of Parashat Emor quotes the pasuk in Tehillim: יוֹם לְיוֹם יַבִּיעַ אֹמֶר וְלַיְלָה לְלַיְלָה יְחַוֶּה דָּעַת . The Midrash explains that in the months of Nisan and Tishrei, the day and night are equal. In the summer, the day borrows hours from the night, and in the winter, the night borrows from the day, until over the course of the year they balance out perfectly. The mefarshim ask: what does this have to do with Parashat Emor, and what is the message of this Midrash? The Tehillot Maharitz explains that every individual in Klal Yisrael has a different role. Although there are many mitzvot that apply only to Kohanim and Levi'im, כל ישראל ערבים זה לזה —we are all responsible for one another. They serve on behalf of us, and we serve on behalf of them. When we understand that we are all one unit, forming Hashem's army of servants, we can truly love one another and remove jealousy from our hearts. The Or HaChaim explains that when Moshe Rabbeinu was told to instruct the Kohanim about their unique mitzvot, one might have thought this would be difficult for him. Originally, Moshe was meant to be the Kohen, but because he hesitated at the burning bush to accept the role of leadership, the kehuna was given to Aharon instead. And we know there was no one who loved mitzvot more than Moshe Rabbeinu. It would seem that hearing about all the additional mitzvot given to the Kohanim could have caused him pain. For this, the Midrash gives its answer. Just as the day and night borrow from each other without resentment, knowing that together they create a perfect balance, so too Klal Yisrael. Some are Kohanim, some Levi'im, some are wealthy, some are poor—but when each person fulfills his role, together we form a perfect nation serving Hashem. Imagine a team competing in a contest, where each correct answer helps the entire team win. If one member answers many questions correctly, his teammates are not jealous—they are thrilled, because his success is their success. That is how we must feel about one another. We are all on the same team, serving the same Hashem. When one person excels, it elevates all of us. The Gemara at the end of Masechet Menachot tells of a tragic case where one brother became jealous of the other for being appointed Kohen Gadol, to the point that he wanted to kill him. Had he understood that they were on the same team, serving the same Hashem, such jealousy could never have existed. Hashem assigns each person a different role, and one who fulfills his mission receives his full reward—just like anyone else who fulfills theirs. It is not a competition. Hashem has enough to give everyone. At Yetziat Mitzrayim, while the Jewish people were busy collecting gold and silver, Moshe Rabbeinu was occupied with bringing the bones of Yosef. On this, the pasuk says: חכם לב יקח מצוות . Moshe was called wise because he chose mitzvot over wealth, and that lesson has inspired generations. All the merit of that inspiration belongs to him. In fact, if Moshe had been a Kohen, he would not have been able to become tameh to carry Yosef's bones. It was specifically this act that led to the great miracle of Keriat Yam Suf. What seemed like a limitation for Moshe became the greatest opportunity. There is never a reason to be jealous of what someone else has, does, or achieves. Hashem gives each person exactly the opportunities needed to fulfill his unique mission. The more we rejoice in another person's success, the more we align ourselves with Hashem's plan and become better servants of Him.
Pastor Jared Richard opens by grounding the Ten Commandments in the framework Jesus gives in Matthew 22:37-40 — that all of the law hangs on loving God and loving your neighbor. With that lens in place, Pastor Jared turns to Exodus 20 and makes clear that the commandments are not a God-given checklist to earn His acceptance. Rather, they are expressions of love — a loving response to a God who has already acted to save His people. The first four commandments teach us to love God, and the last six teach us to love our neighbor, together showing what it means to live as the people of God in a broken world. The heart of the sermon focuses on the First Commandment and four key questions surrounding it: why God is worthy of worship, how He demands to be worshiped, why His people struggle to give it, and what happens when they fail. God's worthiness flows from who He is — the great I AM, the Lord Almighty, and the personal covenant God who brought His people out of Egypt. He demands exclusive worship, describing Himself in Exodus 34:14 as a jealous God, not out of sinful jealousy, but because He alone deserves it and because it is genuinely good for His people to give it. Yet like Israel who built a golden calf in Exodus 32, God's people then and now are prone to replacing Him with more manageable idols — careers, relationships, security, and success — whenever fear or impatience sets in. Pastor Jared closes with the Gospel as the only resolution to this dilemma. The penalty for broken worship is death, as seen throughout the Old Testament, and none of us have loved God with all our heart, soul, and mind as He deserves. But Jesus is the only one who perfectly obeyed the First Commandment, and He took our penalty of death upon Himself. As Romans 8 reminds us, "There is therefore now no condemnation" for those who are in Christ. Jesus not only frees us from the penalty of false worship — He gives us new hearts for true worship, restoring us to the life of undivided devotion to God we were created for. In Exodus 19, Pastor Jared Richard unpacks what he calls the "proposal of God" — a breathtaking invitation for God's rescued people to enter into covenant relationship with Him and become His treasured possession. Just as God reminded Israel in Exodus 19:4, "You yourselves have seen what I did to the Egyptians, how I bore you on eagles' wings and brought you to myself," the foundation of this relationship is not human effort but divine grace. Salvation came before the law, and obedience was never meant to earn God's favor — it was meant to express love in response to the love already freely given. Yet the second half of the chapter reveals a sobering problem. Even after consecrating themselves and washing their garments, the people still could not draw near to the mountain of God's glory without risking death. The holiness gap between God and His people was real, and no amount of preparation could fully close it. This tension, Pastor Jared argues, is not just Israel's problem — it is ours as well. The answer to that problem is not found at Sinai but at Calvary. Jesus Christ perfectly fulfilled the law, perfectly revealed the Father's glory, and perfectly covers the holiness gap through His grace. As John 1:16-17 declares, "From his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace. For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ." Because of Christ, there are no longer any limits to the intimacy we can have with the Father. The invitation to draw near still stands — and in Jesus, we finally can. WE'D LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU! Nearly 8 years, 400 episodes, and close to 30,000 monthly listens: Corey Kupfer shares how the DealQuest Podcast started as a solution to a real business problem, what the guest relationship strategy actually produces for a professional services firm, and why most podcasters quit before the compounding effect kicks in. In this milestone episode of the DealQuest Podcast, host Corey Kupfer hands the mic to his law firm partner Brian Meegan for a candid look inside nearly eight years of podcasting. Corey is an expert strategist, negotiator, and dealmaker with more than 35 years of professional deal-making experience, and the creator of the DealQuest Podcast. Brian Meegan is Corey's partner at Kupfer Law and a longtime member of Entrepreneurs' Organization, where the two originally met. WHAT YOU'LL LEARN: How a frustration with staying connected at scale led to a podcast now generating close to 30,000 listens per month, why the guest relationship is more valuable than the listener base for a professional services business, what "pod fate" is and why more than 85% of podcasts never reach 15 episodes, and the distinction between born dealmakers and situational dealmakers and why it matters for entrepreneurs who think deals aren't for them. ORIGIN STORY: The podcast started as a business problem. As the law firm grew, staying genuinely connected with clients, referral sources, and industry partners at scale became impossible. Authority marketing offered a path. An Entrepreneurs' Organization event in New York, where Gimlet Media founder Alex Bloomberg spoke candidly about starting a podcast company, made the medium click. The show launched in 2018 as Fueling Deals, rebranded to DealQuest about a year and a quarter in, and settled into the format it holds today: a defined open, a defined close, and everything in between is open conversation with no pre-prepared questions. KEY INSIGHTS: The three-part value model for a professional services podcast covers staying top of mind with your existing network, credibility and searchability when a prospect googles you, and actual search-driven client acquisition. All three have produced meaningful results for the DealQuest practice. The guest relationship is the most underestimated asset. Of approximately 300 guest interview episodes, the direct business and referrals from those guest relationships have outweighed what came from the broader listener base. The relationship starts from a place of value creation because the first thing Corey does is give guests access to a meaningful audience. Pod fate is real. More than 85% of podcasts don't reach 15 episodes. Corey's posture from the start was either commit to hundreds of episodes or don't start. Pick a medium you're genuinely energized by, because the energy in the conversation is not replicable with a format you find grinding. Born dealmakers and situational dealmakers are both real. People who treat dealmaking as an exclusive talent tend to opt out before they try. Deals can be learned, and there are structures where risk is easily managed. That's the premise behind Corey's talk called There's a Deal for That: any business challenge or opportunity has a potential deal solution worth at least considering. Perfect for entrepreneurs and business owners considering whether a podcast makes sense for their business, professionals thinking about authority marketing strategy, and dealmakers curious about what nearly 400 conversations about deals has taught someone with 35 years of deal-making experience. In his sermon from Exodus 17-18, Dr. Jamie Dee reminded the congregation that God is always faithful to His people and His promises, even when circumstances seem overwhelming. Drawing from Israel's surprise attack by the Amalekites after their Exodus from Egypt, Dr. Dee highlighted the strange but powerful moment when Moses held up his staff and Israel prevailed in battle, but when his arms grew weary, they began to lose until Aaron and Hur supported his arms. Dr. Dee used this passage along with Jethro's advice to Moses about delegation to teach four essential truths about shepherds and spiritual leaders. First, shepherds need people to hold up their arms through prayer, encouragement, and support, as pastoral ministry involves unique stresses and constant pouring out. Second, shepherds need help maintaining focus on their primary calling to pray for people, preach God's Word, and disciple believers. Third, shepherds need other leaders to share the ministry load, as Moses appointed able men who feared God to judge smaller matters. Finally, shepherds must remain teachable and open to wisdom, as even Moses humbly received counsel from his father-in-law. Dr. Dee concluded by challenging listeners to answer God's call to ministry, noting that 25% of churches in the South cannot find pastors, and encouraged everyone to take courage in God's faithfulness regardless of life's challenges. Recently, the NASA mission of Artemis II took place. For almost 10 days I followed this crew of four as they traveled further than any human has in over 50 years, orbited the moon, and came home talking about love, unity, and each other. It was riveting. It was beautiful. It was therapeutic. In this episode I'm sharing some of the most powerful quotes from the crew and mission control — from Victor Glover, Christina Cook, Reid Wiseman, and Jeremy Hansen — and connecting them to what they mean for you as a leader. We talk about perspective, humanity, the power of pausing, carrying hope for your team, choosing your values when things get hard, and what it means to go far together. This one is a little different. It's a love letter to what's possible when humans show up with character, confidence, and connection. I hope it gives you a little bit of what it gave me — a chance to come up for air. Enjoy! Pastor Jared Richard drew from the image in Jeremiah 18 of God as a potter working with clay to frame his message on Exodus 15-17. He explained that after delivering Israel from Egypt, God led them into the wilderness not to punish them, but to continue His shaping work - getting Egypt out of them, not just getting them out of Egypt. The wilderness serves as God's workshop where He reveals and reshapes the flaws in our hearts. Through three scenes - the bitter water at Marah, the hunger in the wilderness of Sin, and the thirst at Rephidim - Pastor Richard showed how the wilderness revealed Israel's spiritual condition: bitterness, doubt, grumbling, and lack of trust in God's provision. Yet in each situation, God responded with mercy and provision, using these moments to teach His people dependence on Him. The pastor emphasized that Jesus is the true and faithful Israel who succeeded in the wilderness where the people failed, being tempted in the same ways but remaining obedient. For believers today, Pastor Richard encouraged three responses to our own wilderness moments: trusting God completely to meet our needs, listening carefully to His Word rather than relying on our own expectations, and receiving His gifts with contentment. He shared from his own difficult pastoral experience during COVID to illustrate how God uses wilderness seasons to shape us into better vessels for His use, even when we don't enjoy the process. On Easter Sunday, Pastor Jared Richard delivered a powerful message to Bayleaf Church using Exodus 14 and the story of Israel crossing the Red Sea to illustrate the meaning of salvation through Christ's resurrection. He explained that many people celebrate Easter without fully understanding what it means to be "saved," so he used this Old Testament narrative as a divinely orchestrated picture to help answer that question. The central theme was that "God has allowed us to cross over by passing through" - meaning we've been saved from the power of sin by crossing over, and saved from the penalty of sin by passing through death in Christ. Pastor Jared drew parallels between Israel's situation and our spiritual condition. Just as the Israelites were enslaved in Egypt under Pharaoh's cruel power, we were enslaved to sin, death, and Satan. Just as Israel needed to get not only out of Egypt but beyond Pharaoh's reach, we needed deliverance from both sin's power and its penalty. The Red Sea represented the waters of judgment and death that Israel had to pass through to be truly free. Similarly, Jesus served as our greater mediator who didn't just part the waters like Moses, but willingly entered into God's judgment and death as our substitute, then rose victorious, bringing us through to the other side. Pastor Jared concluded by calling people to either receive this salvation through repentance and faith, or to rejoice in the freedom they already possess in Christ, emphasizing that there's no middle ground - we're either in spiritual Egypt or we're not. Pastor Jared Richard began this Palm Sunday message by asking the crucial question: "Why does the story of Jesus lead to a cross?" To answer this, he took the congregation back to Exodus 12 and the night of the Passover in Egypt. He explained how God's judgment was coming upon all of Egypt, including the Israelites, because when the holy God comes personally to judge, everyone stands condemned. However, God provided a way of escape through the blood of a spotless lamb applied to the doorposts of Hebrew homes. When God saw the blood, He would pass over that household, sparing the firstborn because the lamb had died as a substitute. Pastor Richard connected this directly to the Gospel, declaring that Jesus is the true Passover lamb whose blood covers believers from God's judgment. Just as there were only two kinds of houses in Egypt that night—those Marked by blood and those that weren't—when God comes in final judgment, only the blood will matter. But the blood doesn't just cover us; it claims us. Those saved by Christ's blood belong entirely to God and should live lives that reflect this ownership. Pastor Richard challenged the congregation to examine whether their homes, families, and lives look like they belong to God, emphasizing that believers are not just saved from judgment but saved for God's glory. In his sermon from Exodus 7-11, Pastor Jared Richard addressed the most important question every human will face: "Who is the Lord?" This question, first asked by Pharaoh in Exodus 5:2, becomes the driving force of the entire book of Exodus as God acts to reveal Himself through the ten plagues. Pastor Richard explained that these plagues were not merely displays of power, but intentional Revelations of God's glory that challenged Egypt's false gods while demonstrating both His supreme power and remarkable mercy. Pastor Richard showed how God's power is revealed as greater than any other power, unique and singular, and far-reaching over all creation. The plagues systematically exposed the weakness of Egypt's pantheon of gods, proving there is no God like the Lord in all the earth. Yet woven throughout the judgment was God's mercy - seen in the progression from mild to severe plagues (giving opportunities for repentance), the precision that protected Israel while judging Egypt, and the provision that blessed God's people even in the midst of judgment. However, Pharaoh's response serves as a tragic warning. Despite multiple opportunities to repent, Pharaoh's heart became increasingly hardened through repeated resistance to God's word. Pastor Richard warned that the more we resist God's word, the harder our hearts become, and that superficial sorrow over sin is not the same as true repentance. He concluded by pointing to the greater Revelation of God's power and mercy in the gospel of Jesus Christ, calling for complete surrender rather than half-hearted responses to God's grace. One Heart, One Mission | Jesus' Prayer for Unity (John 17) | Jesus UnpluggedWelcome to our Sunday worship stream from Divine Savior Church with Pastor Ben Kuerth. In this message from our Jesus Unplugged series, we step into one of the most powerful and personal moments in Scripture—Jesus' prayer on the night before His crucifixion (John 17:1-26).What's incredible is this: Jesus didn't just pray for His disciples—He prayed for YOU. He prayed for all who would believe in Him, asking that we would be one just as He and the Father are one.In a world marked by division, tribalism, and constant outrage, Jesus calls His Church to something radically different. He unplugs our addiction to self, pride, and separation, and invites us into a unity that reflects heaven itself—diverse, unified, and grounded in truth. This message challenges us to live out that prayer today: to pursue unity, to love deeply, and to stand firmly in God's truth as one body in Christ.Support the showMoved to give? http://dschurch.link/givedoralFor more info about our church please visit our website: https://divinesaviorchurch.com/dscdor/

Pastor Jared Richard opened his sermon with the story of 19th century missionary John G. Paton, who faced tremendous persecution and personal loss while ministering to cannibalistic tribes in the New Hebrides Islands. This illustration set up the central question: "What happens when you obey God and things go terribly wrong?" Drawing from Exodus 4-7, Pastor Richard showed how Moses experienced this same dilemma when his initial success with the Israelites was met with fierce resistance from Pharaoh, who made their slavery even harsher. The sermon outlined three key lessons from Moses' experience. First, difficulty often follows faithfulness because we're engaged in spiritual warfare against powers opposed to God's kingdom. Second, difficulty always refines God's servants - God uses these moments to build our trust and dependence on Him rather than allowing circumstances to define us. Third, difficulty leads us back to God's promises, as seen in Exodus 6:1-8 where God reassures Moses of His presence and power. Pastor Richard emphasized that God's "I will" statements in this passage show that the work of deliverance depends on God's power, not our adequacy. The sermon concluded with Paton's eventual success when he returned to the islands, leading to widespread conversion, and an invitation to the Lord's Supper as a reminder of God's promises to sustain us through hardship. Dr. Allan Moseley delivered a message from Exodus 3 and 4 focusing on God's call of Moses and how it demonstrates that God can use us in His redemption plan when we obey Him. The sermon centered on two major truths: first, that God sees our suffering and has a plan to rescue us, as evidenced by God's declaration in Exodus 3:7-8 that He had seen the affliction of His people in Egypt and had come down to deliver them. Second, God overcomes our inadequacies to use us for His good purpose, despite our feelings of unworthiness or inability. Dr. Moseley systematically examined Moses' six objections to God's call: "Who am I?" (feeling unqualified), not knowing God well enough, fear that people wouldn't believe him, inability to speak well, wanting God to send someone else, and concern for his family. To each excuse, God provided patient answers and assurance of His presence and power. Dr. Moseley emphasized that God delights in choosing unlikely people—shepherds, fishermen, teenagers from small towns—to accomplish His greatest work, so that no human being might boast in God's presence (1 Corinthians 1). The message concluded by contrasting Moses as an imperfect human deliverer with Jesus as the perfect, eternal deliverer who came not just to redeem Israel, but to be "the Savior of the world" (1 John 4:14). Pastor Patrick Austin begins his sermon on Exodus 1-2 with a relatable family vacation analogy, explaining how what starts as joy can turn uncomfortable—much like the Israelites' experience in Egypt. The descendants of Jacob, who initially prospered in Egypt under Joseph's favor, eventually found themselves enslaved under a new Pharaoh who "did not know Joseph." Pastor Austin emphasizes that "in the darkest days of life, God is working to lead his people out of Egypt and into grace." Drawing from Exodus 2:23-25, Pastor Austin outlines four ways God works: He hears (listening to the Israelites' groaning under oppression), He remembers (staying faithful to His covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob), He sees (positioning Hebrew midwives Shiphrah and Puah to protect newborns), and He knows (providing Moses as a deliverer). Pastor Austin explains how God's "remembering" doesn't mean He forgot, but rather demonstrates His faithfulness to never abandon His promises. Even when Moses initially failed and fled to Midian, God was still working according to His perfect plan. The sermon's climax connects Moses to Jesus as the true and better deliverer. While Moses could only provide temporary deliverance from physical slavery, Jesus provides eternal deliverance from sin and death. Pastor Austin calls unbelievers to "cry out to God" for salvation, reminds Christians to remember God's faithfulness in their own salvation, and encourages all believers to "cling to the perfect deliverer" during current dark seasons, knowing that Jesus walks beside them and will one day lead them home to glory. Pastor Jared Richard delivered a timely message from Genesis 11:1-9 as Bay Leaf Baptist Church celebrates God's provision for their building project on Creedmoor Road. The Tower of Babel story reveals humanity's attempt to build a city and tower to make a name for themselves and avoid being scattered across the earth, directly disobeying God's command to fill the earth. Pastor Richard explained that while the unity and technological advancement displayed at Babel was impressive, the heart behind the project was flawed - it was motivated by human pride and the desire for security apart from God. The pastor drew important parallels to the church's building project, asking the crucial question: "Are we building for his name or our name?" He warned that it's entirely possible to build a church building while simultaneously building the Tower of Babel in our hearts. The sermon emphasized that we don't need to build towers to reach heaven because heaven already came down in Jesus Christ. Pastor Richard connected this to the gospel, showing how God's judgment at Babel was actually merciful - scattering humanity to prevent collective rebellion while ultimately pointing toward the true unity that comes through worship of Jesus Christ. He concluded by challenging the congregation to ensure all their works, including the Creedmoor Road project, are done for God's glory rather than their own, as only what is done for His glory will truly last. In this sermon on Genesis 6-9, Pastor Jared Richard demonstrates how the story of Noah functions as a "mini gospel" that prepares us for the greater story of Jesus Christ. Richard outlines five key elements: the problem of sin (humanity's complete depravity), the promise of judgment (God's wrath through the flood), the place of salvation (the ark), the partial fulfillment (Noah's eventual failure), and the perfect fulfillment (Jesus as the true and better Noah). Richard emphasizes that by Noah's time, human wickedness had become so pervasive that "every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time continually" (Genesis 6:5). God's judgment through the flood was both necessary and grievous to His heart. While Noah provided salvation for his family through the ark, his story ultimately ends in failure - naked, ashamed, and dead, just like Adam. This demonstrates that Noah was only a partial fulfillment of God's promise, pointing us to our need for something greater. Jesus Christ is that greater fulfillment - the true and better Noah who doesn't merely build an ark, but becomes the ark himself, willingly plunging beneath the flood of God's wrath so that all who are "in Him" can find not just salvation, but transformation. Richard concludes with an urgent call to come to Christ, the only place of safety from the coming judgment. WE'D LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU! In this sermon on Genesis 3, Pastor Jared Richard addresses the fundamental question of why our world feels broken despite God creating it "very good." He explains that the problem isn't something happening around us, but something that happened within us - sin entered the world when Adam and Eve listened to the wrong voice in the garden. Pastor Richard breaks down Genesis 3 into two scenes. The first scene (verses 1-7) reveals Satan's scheme to destroy through his question "Did God really say?" The serpent works to make Eve doubt God's goodness, distort God's created order, and diminish God's glory. Adam fails in his role as leader and protector, staying silent while his wife is deceived. The second scene (verses 8-21) shows God's gracious response to human rebellion. Rather than destroying Adam and Eve in judgment, God pursues them in their hiding, asking "Where are you?" - not because He doesn't know, but to give them opportunity for confession and repentance. The sermon emphasizes that God's plan for restoration involves three key elements: He continues to pursue us in our sin, He will crush the head of our enemy (referencing Genesis 3:15 as the first gospel promise), and He covers our shame. Pastor Richard connects this directly to the gospel, showing how Jesus is the promised offspring who would crush Satan's head, and how God clothes us in Christ's righteousness just as He clothed Adam and Eve. The message calls listeners to stop hiding and blaming, and instead trust in God's goodness and His plan of redemption through Jesus Christ. WE'D LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU! In this deeply personal episode of People, Alpha Warrior sits down with Gabs and Dr. Nikki, two women brought together by lived experience, hard truths, and a shared mission to protect families. Setting politics aside, the conversation centers on real stories, real consequences, and real solutions. Gabs shares how her family was directly impacted by ideological pressure in schools, leading her to develop a structured, parent-led approach to helping children disengage from destructive belief systems. Dr. Nikki, a former pediatrician, explains why she walked away from her medical career and joined the effort after witnessing similar patterns affect her own family and countless others. Together, they discuss indoctrination, addiction to digital spaces, cultural pressure, and why affirming reality starts at home. This episode is about courage, accountability, and rebuilding trust between parents and children, one family at a time.
Pastor Jared Richard begins this sermon by comparing the recent harsh winter weather in North Carolina to humanity's spiritual condition outside the Garden of Eden. Using Genesis 1:26-27 and Genesis 2:18-25, he explains that God created humans in His image to live in deep, life-giving relationships. Since God exists eternally in relationship as Trinity—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—we as His image bearers were designed for community and connection. The pastor emphasizes that "it is not good for man to be alone" (Genesis 2:18), showing that we need relationships with God, with creation, and especially with other human beings who are both similar to and different from us. Pastor Jared highlights marriage as the foundational human relationship, where "male and female" (Genesis 1:27) come together in complementary unity, reflecting God's own nature. He describes the original state of Adam and Eve as "naked and not ashamed" (Genesis 2:25), representing perfect intimacy without fear of rejection. However, sin has affected all relationships, creating shame and fear that drive us toward isolation. The solution comes through Christ, who died naked and shamed on the cross to remove our shame, enabling us to be fully known by God and accepted. When our relationship with God is restored through Jesus, all other relationships can begin to reflect the gospel's grace and truth. WE'D LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU! [THE DISTINCTIVE EDGE CLIENT CASE STUDY] What does it look like to move from "I'll join next year" to a full-body gut yes—and then watch your business immediately start to click? In this case study-style episode, I sit down with Deb Driscoll, founder of The Be Her Collective, whose North Star is "reminding women just how frickin' magical they are." Deb supports women to reclaim their intuitive wisdom, remember who they are, and step into heroine status—and reminded us all that intuition + strategy is a lethal combo when you finally give yourself permission to be fully seen. Deb shares the honest behind-the-scenes of what it felt like to invest (hello, excitement + nausea), how old scarcity stories almost kept her out, and why she decided TDE would be the "pathway, full stop." Then we get into what actually changed: the framework, the messaging clarity, and the (surprise!) sales support Deb didn't realize she needed—especially the power of private invites to enroll clients without a big launch. If you've ever felt like your work feels "too intangible" to explain clearly… or you're tired of spinning in circles trying five different strategies at once… this one will hit. In this episode, we cover: Why Deb joined The Distinctive Edge (TDE) and what made it feel like "the risk that has reward" The difference between a true "not now" and a scarcity-based "no" How Deb stopped the "I know so much" expert spiral by becoming a beginner again (TDE school energy) The real key to making a "vague" or intuitive transformation feel tangible and clear in your messaging Why your signature framework can become your one message, one mission across offers What made the material reviews so powerful (and why "knowing the why" matters) How Deb used private invites to start 2026 with clients already enrolled (without a traditional launch) The underrated ROI: community, connection, and not building your business alone Quotes you'll remember "This feels risky, but this is the risk that has reward." "I unsubscribed to so many people… I'm listening to myself, and I'm listening to Meg." "I start 2026 not just as a business owner. I'm a woman on a mission." In this sermon from Genesis 1-2, Pastor Jared Richard explored God's original design for human flourishing through the rhythm of work and rest. He demonstrated how God himself worked in creation—making, designing, and cultivating—then rested on the seventh day, not from exhaustion but to enjoy and reflect on his completed work. As image bearers of God, humans were created to follow this same pattern, with work being an act of sub-creation that reflects God's creative nature, and rest being a time to gain perspective and enjoy God's greater work. However, sin has broken this beautiful rhythm. We either reject God in our work by finding our identity and worth in our jobs, or we rebel against God in our rest by either working obsessively (thinking we're indispensable) or being lazy (avoiding our calling to work). Pastor Jared explained that this physical problem with work and rest is actually a symptom of a deeper spiritual problem. The solution comes through the gospel: Jesus' finished work on the cross provides the spiritual rest we need, allowing us to work from a place of rest rather than working to earn rest. When we find our identity and rest in Christ's completed work, our physical work can become an act of worship that brings glory to God and advances his kingdom. WE'D LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU!
