In this episode we get to talk to Jennifer Volberding who does a lot of everything at Oklahoma State University. Jen has done a lot in her athletic training career so far. She spent a significant amount of time in the clinical setting working with a variety of sports at different levels that gave her unique insight as she moved into her role as an educator.  Jen is the program director of the master's program at OSU and the program is entering year six. We talk about how the changing landscape of athletic training education will have an effect on the future of the profession. Jen has some strong thoughts about the change in degree level and how that has affected students and ultimately professionals. San Francisco is often thought of as the birthplace of advocacy and innovation in combating the HIV epidemic. Dr. Paul Volberding, professor of medicine at UCSF, was perhaps the leading clinician in the United States in the early days of the HIV epidemic. As a young oncologist finishing his training in the early 1980's, Volberding recalls seeing a young gay man with a previously rare tumor: Kaposi's sarcoma. Little did he know that the underlying immunodeficiency that led to KS would come to define his career. Volberding went on to become the founding chief of the AIDS division at San Francisco General Hospital, where he established the first inpatient AIDS wards and outpatient AIDS clinic.
