Send us Fan MailNothing real can be threatened. If you actually try to live that, it collides with everything the ego uses to scare us: job loss, rejection, politics, sickness, aging, and even death. From Hawaii, we sit with the central teaching of A Course in Miracles and ask a blunt question: what do we really want, relief from the world or the Peace of God right now?We talk through a recent tragedy in our neighborhood where two close friends are apparently murdered, and we look at what mourning reveals about collective consciousness. Instead of judging grief or trying to “stay high vibe,” we practice compassion while still refusing the premise that threat is real. We explore how taking even one thing as dangerous makes the mind project danger everywhere, and why mind training means giving that small “nod to God” that says: if I feel threatened, I must be wrong, and I want to see this differently. From there we get practical: a conflict over a chair becomes a lesson in triggers, spiritual attack, transparency, apology, and repair. We also dig into boundaries that are guided in the moment, not enforced as rigid rules, plus a view of sickness and healing that leaves room for gentle solutions when the mind stops insisting suffering is required. If you care about spiritual awakening, forgiveness, nondual spirituality, and applying truth in daily life, this one goes straight to the nerve.Subscribe, share this with a friend who feels on edge, and leave a review with your biggest takeaway: what is the one “threat” you are willing to question today?Support the show

Send us Fan MailYou can spend years chasing “evidence” that you're healed, loved, chosen, safe and still feel the same knot in your stomach. We take that knot seriously, but we stop taking the ego's story seriously. From a Mother's Day reflection on “mother energy,” we move into a practical spiritual teaching: self-condemnation is never private. The moment we judge ourselves, it leaks into our tone, our expectations, and the way we try to manage other people. The invitation is to let those condemning thoughts be meaningless and to practice real self-compassion that doesn't depend on anyone else behaving correctly. A big theme is relationships and spiritual awakening, especially the hunger for proof. When someone asks, “Why isn't my healing reflected back to me?” we point to a different kind of evidence: peace. Not peace as a vibe you wait for, but peace as a choice you demonstrate to your own mind while the old pattern tries to hook you through remorse, control, and scarcity. We bring in A Course in Miracles ideas like releasing fear, undoing guilt, and remembering there is no love but God's, which reframes romantic longing as a deeper longing for wholeness. We also get refreshingly real about modern attachment points: beauty ideals, self-care, money dynamics, resentment, obligation, and trauma bonds that can feel like addiction in the body. None of it is about being “good” or “spiritual.” It's about noticing the interpretation you're making and choosing a gentler, freer way to see. If you're ready for a relationship mindset built on forgiveness, non-attachment, and joy-guided living, press play and come hang with us. Send us Fan MailA single sentence changes how we interpret everything from traffic to trauma: nothing can threaten you. We start with a driving moment that could have turned into panic and anger, then slow it down until you can see the mechanics of the ego mind in real time: projection, catastrophe stories, and the belief that you are vulnerable. From there, we pivot into a practical spiritual practice, using A Course in Miracles forgiveness to collapse the whole “threat” framework and replace it with something unexpectedly sane like gratitude or even laughter. Then we widen the lens to the places fear hides in plain sight: retirement plans, money stress, earning, and the constant internal pressure to secure the future. We talk about abundance mindset as a felt experience of “needs already met,” how dependency programs form around substances and pharmaceutical drugs, and why judging your spirituality by external outcomes is a trap. Instead, we explore deductive reasoning: bringing one foundational truth to every situation rather than letting appearances tell you who you are.We also get real about relationships and communication: when someone is projecting motives onto you, being loving does not always mean staying engaged. We share how to pause, get centered, listen for guidance, and set clean boundaries when needed. Finally, we move into deep healing, unpacking how memory keeps pain alive and how forgiveness can end decades of replay by seeing innocence and changing the past in the present. If this lands for you, subscribe, share it with someone who feels stuck in fear, and leave a review with the one place you want to practise “nothing can threaten me” this week.Support the show

I start with big, attention grabbing topics like symbols, astrology, flat earth debates, and “are aliens real,” then bring it back to the only place change actually happens: the instant a thought tries to complete its arc and you choose not to follow it.We talk A Course in Miracles in a very lived, everyday way. When a sensation or emotion shows up, the ego rushes in with a story that pins the cause on the world, another person, your body, or your past. I share a practical method for cutting that loop off gently, without shame or forcing, and why “pain has no purpose” becomes real when you stop using discomfort as proof that something is wrong. From there we move into relationships, boundaries, and the deep freedom of relating without need, earning, bargaining, or performance.Along the way, I tell stories about social media triggers, cancelled travel plans, solitude, humming as a regulating practice, and even phone games as a mirror for how we manufacture “problems.” The thread that ties it all together is certainty: not something you achieve through perfect meditation, but something you choose right now. If you want more peace, more emotional stability, and a cleaner spiritual practice that actually works in real life, this will land.Subscribe, share this with someone who's stuck in a thought spiral, and leave a review. Send us Fan MailA single tech support call turns into a surprisingly clear mirror: the moment I believe a goal has to be met for me to feel OK, my tone tightens, my mind starts fighting reality, and frustration feels “reasonable.” From there, we slow down and name what is really happening. The relief we want is not in the solved problem, it is in seeing the false goal and responding with truth while the sensations are still here. That shift sounds simple, but it changes everything. We also explore how to tell the difference between ego and spirit in real time. Ego brings strain, disappointment, and an agenda for outcomes. Spirit moves through ease and inspiration, even when life looks messy on the surface. Using A Course in Miracles framing, we talk about projection, “experience the experience,” and why trying to manage your behaviour often blocks honest watching. Along the way we touch on triggers in social situations, empathy without self-erasure, and why certain responses can feel like time collapses because the mind stops looping. Then we widen the lens to relationships, scarcity mindset, and the belief systems that train us to feel limited. Money, health fears, and authority narratives can function like a mimic of what is true, while giving and receiving are one and truth is the real currency. If you have ever felt pulled by fantasy, manipulation, guilt, or control, this conversation offers a grounded way to see the pattern without shame and choose a cleaner response. If this resonates, subscribe, share it with a friend who is stuck in a loop, and leave a review so more people can find these teachings. What pattern are you ready to stop calling “just how it is”?Support the show

"When I train candidates I always say start with Freud, learn the interpersonalist, learn the object relations folks, know from what you come, even if you want to be a radical interpersonalist, a radical relationalist, because having that stuff in your back pocket is organizing and creates an ideal to which you can aspire or choose not to follow, but at least you'll know what you're not following. My perspective on this stuff really comes from the idea that before we are free to break the rules, we need to know what the rules are and we need to be well grounded in them." Episode Description: We begin by appreciating the evolution of some fundamental practices in psychoanalysis. We consider the meanings of 'rules' and 'guidelines'. Joyce shares with us her current thinking on answering patients' questions – for some, it's helpful, for others, not. We discuss the use of the word 'fantasy' with patients as contrasted with 'guesses' or 'imaginings'. Joyce considers the many ways that patients terminate their treatments and how frequently it does not accord with traditional models of ending. We consider reluctance to leave the treatment relationship from both sides of the couch – analysts, too, have needs satisfied in this work and can play a part in the nature of the ending. Joyce relates how some former patients remain in contact with their analysts, and that isn't necessarily problematic.  For others, "being able to 'go it alone' represents an extraordinary achievement." She concludes that "termination remains an ideal worth holding onto. But loosely."   Our Guests: Joyce Slochower, Ph.D., ABPP, is Professor Emerita of Psychology at Hunter College & the Graduate Center, CUNY.  Joyce is faculty and supervisor at the NYU Postdoctoral Program, the Steven Mitchell Center, the National Training Program of NIP (all in New York), the Philadelphia Center for Relational Studies in Philadelphia, and the Psychoanalytic Institute of Northern California in San Francisco. She has written Holding and Psychoanalysis: A Relational Perspective (1996) and Psychoanalytic Collisions (2006). She is co-Editor, with Lew Aron and Sue Grand, De-idealizing relational theory: a Critique from within and Decentering Relational Theory: A Comparative Critique (2018), both of which received the Gradiva award in 2019. Dr. McCarthy explains how ultra-processed and hyper-palatable foods are intentionally engineered to drive repeat consumption, how emotional memories and stress shape cravings, and why shame-based nutrition advice often makes the problem worse instead of better. Topics covered in this episode include: • How ultra-processed foods affect the brain • Why compulsive eating is learned — and can be unlearned • The connection between trauma, stress, and food cravings • The difference between guilt and shame • How marketing and emotional associations shape eating habits • Why “clean eating” language can be harmful • The neuroscience of cravings, dopamine, serotonin, and reward • What real freedom with food actually looks like • Why self-compassion matters in healing If you've ever felt trapped in cycles of emotional eating, binge eating, food guilt, or shame around nutrition, this episode is for you.

A Dialogue with Justin Jackson and Alban BrookeJust in Jackson from Transistor.fm is so enthusiastic about Apple's new way to add video to their platform (called HLS). I have felt "Meh" about it since it was announced (I'm worried about using API's instead of using the RSS feed). So I wanted to see if I was missing something that might lead me to feel more like Justin.Later that same week Alban Brook from Buzzsprout reached out and so I combined the interviews to show multiple points of view about Apple's HLS implementation not that more hosts are being approved to connect to Apple via their API.Justin's View is Based On Younger PeopleWhile I have no children Justin has a few and he explained how watching them he sees them move from watching video to switching to audio. So the HLS video in Apple supports this (and it's already available on YouTube music, and Spotify. This explains why Justin would have a viewpoint different than mine.Dialogues are amazing, and you just might learn something. Try one today. They are free!Alban's View on The "Give People What They Want" focus of Apple PodcastsWhen you go to YouTube, they drown you in options as they try to get you to click on anything. With Apple's new video options, when you log into Apple, you primarily see the shows that you've told Apple you want to see. Consequently, it may be a better experience. Kevin Finn on the Buzzcast show compared YouTube and the horrible experience to going to the movies, where everything is overpriced and the floor is sticky. The experience isn't as good.Don't Take on Too MuchIf you're a video creator already, adding your show to YouTube seems like a no brainer, and Alaban and Just both mentioned that when people signed up to be beta testers, many of the people chomping at the bit were already video creators.Justin mentions that much like coloring, you start with three colors and learn how to keep people engaged. Then start adding more colors. With podcasting it may make more sense to start with audio, and then add video. We are in a Wait and See PeriodWe don't actually know if this is going to take off. While we don't expect Apple to topple YouTube, we are interested to see just how many people jump on board. Both companies mentioned the benefits of being an early adopter.Pricing for HLS HostingTransistor offers HLS video on any package of of $49 and higher.Buzzsprout offers 6 hours a month for $30 ($25 if you purchase yearly).Captivate is $19/month with an additional $12 for video.Keep in mind Transistor and Captivate operate on a "As many shows and episodes as you want (but you bill goes up depending on downloads/traffic). Buzzsprout's model is a "per show" fee, but you can have as many downloads as you want. For more information on other hosts as they are added see this article on Podnews. The Bridge Podcast on YouTubeJustin shared the story of The Bridge with Peter Mansbridge a former Candaian broadcaster who has now moved to YouTube who is having great success without amazing Thumbnails and fancy studios.Acquired Charges Millions for SponsorshipThere are always shows that break the mold, and Acquired is one of them. They do limited shows that engage a certain audience (CEOs), and consequently are charging millions for sponsor a season (and are already sold out). They describe their show as, "We (Ben and David) personally invest 100+ hours each to research and produce a ~4 hour "conversational audiobook,” telling a company's complete history and strategy.Spotify's Video Options are BlurryI am always cautious about Spotify. We all know they are not fans of RSS, and they like to make features that only work in Spotify. In a recent article at Podnews, Jame Cridlan explains how uploading a video from your media host into Spotify may lock you into using the media host (where an RSS enables you to redirect the feed). There is talk that Spotify may manually be able to switch your show back to RSS (with consequences). My point is we currently don't know so if you plan on posting video to Spotify, you might setup a free hosting account and uplaod the video there. ( I do that for my "Ask the Podcast Coach" show).Mentioned In the ShowSchool of PodcastingPodcasting in Six WeeksTransistor Media HostingBuzzsprout Media HostingCaptivate Media HostingThe Video Podcast ShowPodcast Marketing Trends ExplainedThe Panel PodcastBuzzcast PodcastLinks Mentioned In This EpisodeVideo podcast host pricing - comparisons from PodnewsBeware Spotify's video lock-in from PodnewsMentioned in this episode:Question of the Month: Favorite Remote Recording ToolSo many podcasters us tools to do remote recording (guests, etc).
