A deep and comedic dive into everything from the mundane to meaningful.
It happened. I did it. I finally did it. I broke the internet. With a cat. Which makes sense if you think about it. Join us as we talk about my first truly VIRAL video, how it has nothing to do with anything I've ever done, and how it sparked a controversy that gave me major anxiety poops. Hold on for this roller coaster ride. Adult themes and language throughout. 18+
2021 is off to a rocky start. Let's add a little levity to the atmosphere shall we? Today is all about benign (meaning no harm intended) ill wishes. Compliments of my Tiktok comment section. Adult themes and language throughout. (18+)
As we look back on this crazy 2020 year, we explore such topics as butt modifications, gray sweatpants, the addictive nature of Tiktok, and the importance of owning your shiz. Adult themes and language throughout. Listener discretion advised. 18+
We're BACK! And we've got some hot steamy takes to drop at your feet with little to no explanation. Who are we trying to kid? We live in Nuance. So join Levi and Britty for the triumphant return of the Bemused Podcast. Let's see how long we stick around this time! 18+ Adult Themes and Language.
Hey everyone, I know it's been a hot minute and I am sorry to have vanished on you. I wish I could say that this is me announcing the triumphant return of the Bemused Podcast, but unfortunately things are still very much in flux. I will be posting something that will explain the situation more in the future, but now just know that everyone here at Bemused very much appreciates the love and support you have shown for the project. This episode was recorded a couple months back as part of our Utah Theater series. My good friend Liz joins me to discuss her experience on being an actor/director/mad scientist of the arts. Don't worry, it will all make sense soon. Liz is incredibly thoughtful about how she approaches her work as an artist, and I thoroughly enjoyed the time we spent in studio. I hope you enjoy this episode and as always, thank you again for your love and support.
In honor of our very own Esquire Heywire a.k.a Andrew, today we will be airing out some of our most treasured gripes. This episode didn't go exactly as we had planned, and it turns out that my lack of cenimatic knowledge may have had an comedic effect. But don't worry...I totally remembered my improv training and "Yes AND'nd" like a pro. You will just have to listen to understand. Listener Discretion Advised
We are back with our little side project. I have really been enjoying these director series, and today's episode is no exception. I am joined by Director/Actor/Bear on a moped Jamie Rocha Pomeroy-Allan. Jamie and I get a little more cerebral, and also a little silly, which is awesome. I loved hearing his unique perspective on theater and acting, having come up in London before relocating to Utah. It is a mix bag of a little bit of everything, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
Today is all about the "F" word. That's right Forgiveness. This is a broad topic but we take a crack at it anyway....As we desperately try to keep one another on track. Fair warning, there was a casualty. Listener Discretion is Advised
Let's face it, life can be a really scary place sometimes, especially when you think about all the scary stuff that people do to other people. In light of recent events, and the overall social climate of our world, Andrew and I sit down to unpack a couple of these topics. We will be covering a few different aspects of fear and human interactions today including (but not limited to) Random acts of violence, school shootings, stalking, and of course, terrible Utah drivers. It's sort of a grab bag of fear, but hopefully by the end we will all feel just a little better. Listener Discretion Advised
Life is like a hurricane, here on, the Bemused Podcast. With me bouncing here and there and everywhere lately, sometimes episodes go up a day late. But don't worry, just because sometimes, some posts, go slippin' through through the cracks, these two, pod hosts (Andrew and myself) are pickin' up the slack. There's no topic too big, no topic too small, when you need nonsense just call!!! And if any of that sounded plagiarized to you, then I really think you are going to enjoy today's episode all about 80s cartoons...and other stuff. Listener discretion advised
We are a day late, but not a Bear short! Because there will be Bears today. Not the sports team, actual bears, and Yellowstone. My friend Mike joins me in studio to talk about all things Yellowstone. Having grown up with Yellowstone as his backyard, Mike offers some unique insights on the iconic park, some hidden treasures, and....BEARS!!! If you would like Mike to take you on a hidden waterfall tour slide into his DMs on Insta: herecomesthefunn Listener Discretion Advised (Always)
In this episode Andrew and I discuss a wide variety of topics, mostly in the realm of human sexuality and coupling, as per requested. Hopefully you find it helpful and/or charmingly befuddled. Adult content throughout. Listener discretion advised.
Life can be a dangerous place, good thing we've got my friend Jay in studio today to talk about all things safety. Home safety, personal protection, online safety, and even a little bit about keeping our kids safe. All the safe. Hope you enjoy!! Listener discretion advised
You asked for him and we got him! Today I am joined by one of the most well respected Directors in Utah, Jim Christian. This episode is part of a little side project to the actual Bemused Podcast, so if you are joining us for the first time, I would recommend staring with one of our "regular" episodes. These side episodes are dedicated to projects that are more personal and specific to me, including theater and the performing arts. I also am giving everyone a sneak peak, or "listen" rather, to a song from the brand new original rock musical A Wall Apart that will be playing at The Grand Theater in Salt Lake starting August 15th. Links to tickets and info below. And if you listen real close to the song, you might just hear a familiar voice *wink* Tickets https://sa1.seatadvisor.com/sabo/servlets/TicketRequest?eventId=1278665&presenter=GRANDTHEATRE&venue=GTMS,GTBS&event= Show Info http://awallapart.com/
We have been a bit MIA as of late, but don't worry, all is about to be revealed. Give this episode a listen and learn all about where Bemused is headed. We also have a very exciting announcement that may or may not involve a certain flaxen haired lawyer. Trust me, it's gonna be good. Thanks for hanging in with us.
As promised, an episode dedicated to some of the most fascinating body parts the world has ever known...The Boobs. I am joined by my friend Charlene, who recently underwent a breast reduction surgery, and since I have contemplated this procedure myself, I figured this would be a great opportunity to talk all things Boobs. Warning: While not meant to be pornographic or raunchy, we will be having a frank conversation about breasts, which means we will be saying boobs, breast, and other such euphemisms throughout. As always, listener discretion is advised.
PART TWO of my conversation with Lindsey. In this episode we get pretty vulnerable as we discuss why we both have independently decided that we are not interested in dating. Don't worry, it's not a man hating episode, far from it. We talk a lot about trauma and trust and boundaries. Trigger warning, we will discuss topics like violence towards women, stalking, and other heavy issues, so please use your best discretion when listen to this episode.
On the heels of my triumphant return from The Mile High City, we have Lindsey back in studio for a little girl talk, and by "girl talk" I mean ducks and squirrels, and bunnies, and meats, and weed, and the plague.....and also Tom Hiddleston...Naturally. This is actually part one of two parts we recorded. This first episode is light and fluffy and fun, and then we get real serious, but that is the next episode. We also discuss vegetarianism again for a moment as I attempt to work through my meat angst. It's just sort of a grab bag. I hope you enjoy! Listener discretion advised
As per usual, this was not the episode I intended, but it IS the episode that you are gonna get. I am in Colorado for the next little bit, and thus my whole plan for June is ruined, RUINED I TELLS YA! So now you get Heywire Esquire again, and also me, as we talk about stuff that we are in no way qualified to discuss. Which reminds me, keep in mind as you listen to any of these episodes that neither I, nor any of my guests claim to be an expert on anything. We are just people...people with thoughts and ideas and theories, many of them half baked, or still a work in progress. This is never more true than it is for this episode. We talk about a smattering of things, including Autism, and I hope that you will keep in mind that I am still very new to this world, and to all of it's specific trappings. Anyways, if you Enjoy Britty and Andrew banter, and then Andrews brain melting, then this is the episode for you! Listener discretion advised
We're back! Sir Heywire Esquire being the evil genius that he is, was able to recover a (thought to be) lost episode. We catch up on where we've been, what we are up to now, and even talk a little GOT before we get to an abbreviated conversation about words, empathy, and why rhetoric still very much matters. Hope you enjoy, and thanks for hanging in with us! Listener Discretion Advised
Yes, that's right, it's an episode all about our favorite four legged companions. No, not squirrels, DOGS!! So many dogs! All of the dogs. I am joined by a new Shannon (not therapist Shannon) to talk about what to when thinking about getting a dog. Shannon is a dog trainer and an all around puppy expert. She is so into dogs that she even has an entire podcast dedicated to out canine companions. So enjoy today's episode, even if you are more of a Cat person.
Our month long salute to all things Theater continues, but don't worry, if you aren't a theater person we will have a brand new episode all about PUPPIES this Thursday. We are going to change up the way episodes are released, which I explain in the intro. Today's episode I am joined by yet another brilliant director friend Dave Hanson. Dave and I discuss local Utah theater, the stuff we love, the stuff that we want to see more of, and of course, Dave is going to give us his top tips and recommendations for getting the part! Enjoy and Happy Auditions everyone! Listener discretion is advised.
Calling all theater people! This episode for you. Come on, you all knew this was coming. I'm a theater kid and I can no longer not do an episode (or several) about the wild, wacky, and often soul crushing world of live theater. I am joined by my friend and fellow theater kid Josh Richardson as we discuss audition do's and don'ts. What is going to get you to stand out, and what is going to sink you faster than a production of Titanic. If you are in theater, have kids who want to do theater, or just want to take a peak behind the curtain, this is the episode for you. Enjoy! Listener Discretion Advised
Today we have Therapist Shannon (LMFT) in studio to talk about Intuitive Eating. What is intuitive eating you might ask? Well it goes far beyond counting calories and fat grams and macros and micros, and in fact, you might be a little bit shocked by what we have to say about diets in general. We also hit upon body image, beauty standards, and whether or not you should retire your scale forever. Hope you enjoy! Listener discretion advised
Back with Esquire Heywire (Lawyer Andrew) to answer more questions about dating. Enjoy! Listener discretion advised
Sorry for the delay folks. I had an out of town job that proved more tricky than anticipated, but hey, to make it up to you I'm posting part one of my discussion with Lawyer Andrew (Esquire Heywire) today and then you get part two tomorrow! Hooray! Today I blindside Andrew with the most Googled dating questions (maybe). Adult themes and language throughout so please, use your best listening discretion.
And YOU get a boundary!! And YOU get a boundary!!! Boundaries for EVERYONE!!!!! Personal boundaries that is. We are not talking about politics and walls, we are talking about the boundaries we set (and sometimes fail to set) in our own lives. Let's be honest, setting healthy boundaries can be hard, which is why I have Shannon (LMFT) back in studio to talk about why boundaries are important, why we often fail to set them, and what are the real world consequence when we don't.....and do! As always listener discretion is advised
We are joined today by Levi, but we aren't talking about Autism, though it does get a little wink and a nod. Today we are talking about Narcissism, personality disorders, and where they might stem from. We also get into childhood trauma and some other heavy topics. As always, this podcast and the views offered within are never meant to used as/or to replace any kind of professional medical advice. If you or a loved one think you might be suffering from a mental illness, please contact a trained health care professional. Listener Discretion is advised.
We have Lawyer Andrew (Esquire Heywire) back in studio to talk about the Justice System and hit on a couple of hot button topics. We discuss sexual assault, the Josh Powell case, and touch a little bit on the juvenile court system as it exists in Utah. We delve a bit into the day to day life of a public defender, and Andrew gives some insight into why sometimes the justice system may not seem all that just. As always, listener discretion is advised.
*Whispering* hello everyone...have you heard of this asmr thing? no? neither had i...so we are going to do an episode all about it. asmr (autonomous sensory meridian response). if you have no idea what i am talking about, this is a great little introduction, and if you are already familiar with the phenomenon, we are going to take a deeper dive into the science and psychology surrounding this internet craze. we will also touch on a couple lesser known conditions that may play a part in why some of us can and cannot feel the tingles! as always listener discretion is advised Odins ASMR Magical Winter Hike https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OebEzg0I2kk&feature=share&fbclid=IwAR0jzvakzS0tHnymAnp_eyaH0OgMKKemjXwqCOA8GxsJwVpD3EEYGWnEOuI
Part 2 of our 2 part series on Faith Transitions and those struggling with a crisis of faith. I am joined again by Shannon Ricks (LMFT) as we discuss healthy approaches to these difficult times. As always, listener discretion is advised
This week I am joined by Shannon Ricks (LMFT) as we discuss the difficult topic of faith transitions and faith crisis....crisies? crisi? People going through a crisis of faith. While we will be referencing our own experiences and journey within in the LDS church, you do not have to be Mormon (either current or past member) to draw the parallels so often seen in any sort of loss of faith. If you are currently an active person of faith, there is still value in listening to these episodes (we hope). Faith Transitions and a crisis of faith can be a devastating event in someone's life that can often leave them with more questions than answers. While we can't promise to answer all of your questions in these two episodes. we hope that over the course of many discussions we will become a resource to those struggling along their own faith journeys. As always, listener discretion is advised. Shannon and I talk openly and honestly about our faith, the things that we love, and the things that led us out. This podcast is not intended to be used as Anti-Mormon promoting material, and rather seeks to build a bridge and find the common ground.
Today we talk about everyone's favorite subject... DATING!!! As per a listeners request. My friend Lindsey joins me as we discuss what women really want, the "nice guy" syndrome, and why it is that dating feel mostly impossible these days. Is it just us? Hope you enjoy! *Listener Discretion Advised*
We're back with Part two of our introduction to Females on the Autism Spectrum. If you haven't listened to part one, you will want to do that before listening to part two. As always, listener discretion is advised. You can find the links for all of the videos and references in the description for part one.
Today we are talking about Autism. But even if you think you know about Autism, I'm betting you might not know about this new wave of women who are being diagnosed later in life. I am joined today by Levi, a long time friend and someone who has been part of my own Autistic journey. Please know that most of what I am going to share today comes directly from my own journey. I have also added links to the YouTube videos I reference, and will be adding commentary to throughout the episode. This episode is a soft PG-13 rating, but as always, listener discretion is advised. Part 2 of my conversation with Esquire Heywire, or, Lawyer Andrew. In part one we were asked to debate some topics, and we did. In part 2, we get into some deeper thoughts, and even open up about some hard topics. As per usual, this podcast is intended for mature audiences and listener discretion is advised.
One of you asked for it, so here you go. Sir Esquire Heywire, also known as Lawyer Andrew joins me today for a good old fashioned debate. What will we be debating you ask? Lots of stuff. Some of it silly, and some of it a bit more heavy. Literally everything from Skittles to STI's. This will be a 2 part episode, with part 2 coming out tomorrow. As always, due to the adult nature of our conversations, listener discretion is advised, and this podcast is recommended for 18+
The story you are going to hear today is one of the reasons I wanted to start a podcast in the first place, and as you will hear, it almost never made it's way to air. There are reasons, I promise, but I hope that the story you are about to hear really finds a place in your heart and mind. It is the story of Annie, a young girl whose life was cut short tragically, and the events that surrounded everything. I am joined by her mother Veronica, who also happens to be a licensed therapist. This story is complex, heart wrenching, and so much more than what I was able to capture in the time we had together. That being said, thank you for taking the time to listen to Annie's Story. Content Warning: This episode discusses heavy adult themes including violence to children and murder. It is recommended for 18+
Remember My Little Ponies from the 80's? Well it's alive and thriving in a section of the population that might surprise you. I am joined today by Daniel, who is a self-proclaimed "Bronie." What is a Bronie you ask? Guess you better listen in and find out! As always listener discretion is advised. Adult themes will be discussed.
Happy 2019 everyone! We made it -- so let's talk about something fun and super not complex at all -- Adult Sexuality. I have Therapist Shannon back to talk about the current culture of sex we live in, how it affects our views on dating and courtship, and what it is like to grow up in a more sexually conservative environment, and then be faced with a whole new world of choices. As always, we will be discussing adult themes. This episode, while not explicit, is not intended for those under the age of 18.
I'm joined again by Shannon (LMFT) to discuss grief and other things that can make the holiday a difficult time for many of us. Hopefully you can find some solace in knowing that you aren't the only person who might struggle during these holi(days). I open up about my grandmothers recent passing, and I throw in a story about projectile vomit...because...Christmas. Content warning: We discuss death and the grieving process candidly, and other adult themes throughout. Listener discretion is advised.
Baby it's Christmas and we need to hate something, so let's talk about it. Andrew joins me again to discuss all things Christmas angst, and maybe there will be some weed as well, just for fun. Adult language and themes throughout. Listener Discretion Advised.
It's Christmas time! Let's talk about Batman...Naturally. I've got Todd (Batman Expert) in studio to talk about all things Dark Knight. History, Pop culture, psychology, and of course, nonsense. Some adult themes discussed. Listener Discretion Advised.
This weeks episode is not what it was originally meant to be. This time, it's just me. I promise I will make it worth your efforts, with stories...stories about peeing your pants. Content warning: Murder, Child homicide, true crime, domestic violence. Listener discretion advised.
In Part 2 of our conversation about the science of sexual attraction, my friend Andrew, a public defense attorney for juveniles, discuss more of the biological factors that go into why we are attracted to certain people. As in part 1, there are adult themes throughout, and mild language. Listener discretion is advised.
What attracts us physically and sexually to other people? How much does our biology have to do with it? Who's really in control anyway? In this (Part 1 of 2) episode, I sit down with my friend Andrew to discuss the scientific, biological, and psychological factors that go into what draws us to each other. Light language and adult themes. Listener discretion advised.
In light of the recent "This American Life" episode addressing the practice of Bishops interviews within the LDS church, Shannon (LMFT) and I sit down to discuss our own experiences, and the topic of sexuality within the context of Mormonism. Be advised, this episode contains adult themes, including masturbation, sex, and sexual development. While our goal is to treat these delicate issues with maturity, it is ultimately up to you as the listener to use your best discretion.
Today my friend Ryan joins me to talk about all things Pet Peeves. Yours, Ours, and the Webs. It's gonna get a little salty. Listener Discretion is advised...Because...You know...Adulting.
Welcome to Episode 1 of The Bemused Podcast. This episode is all about Halloween. We got candy corn, pumpkin spice, and the kissing prowess of brass instruments? The rating for this one is a soft PG-13 for a couple Bible swear and a couple moments of innuendo. The recording volume is a little low, so you might want to listen to this one with the volume up!
