This week on DOPEY! We welcome Philly Junky, Artist, Book and Game Designer Dave Marques! We start reading the Jenni Spotify comments. Play Allison voicemail (paramedic blowjob in ambulance post-Christian rehab relapse), Miles voicemail (veins wrecked by crack run, imaging lab vein scan horror, switched to sniffing/smoking/femoral). Reads Dana email (using while listening to dopey, Philly trank/xylazine hell, 10-year heroin/PCP run, funny bad gas station robbery story). Dave connects deeply, offers help (Dopey Nation socials/Zoom, 25 meetings/week), we stress that recovery is doable. Dave Marquez (Philly artist, inventor of Relapse vs Recovery game/activity book, ~10 years sober 6/9/16). Dave Marquez interview highlights (starts ~27:52): Early life/family addiction — Kindergarten stealing at Nativity school, mom prison check fraud/coke/heroin, dad PCP/meth/LSD chemist (horse dewormer contract, biker gang supplier), Moonies kidnapping half-brother Jesse, parents split kids no custody, dad took Dave after mom prison/grandma rehab/aunt binge, dad sober then full alcoholic (nice sloppy drunk, Eagles yelling). Teen years/drugs — Pot/PCP 7th grade (~12), "love boat" blunts, rainy days romance, graffiti start 97–98 (SEV/Shiva tag), stabbed kid 8th grade (utility cutter), juvie Pittsburgh 18 months (school + D&A program, "yes them" to get out). High school fall — Ankle bracelet 9th grade, friend OD heroin, vice principal fight on PCP, multiple expulsions ($80k graffiti damage), umpiring/job purpose lost to girl/drugs. Adult spiral — Daughter born 2004, dad death 2007 heart attack (no 911 to save ambulance cost), inherited $30k → oxy dealer → heroin, escort driving (pinching bags, chaos), scams (Dave & Buster's tickets, college copper theft, steak return scam with mom, fake bills), lost everything, daughter's mom left after needles found. Jail/fentanyl era — Multiple arrests (shoplifting, attempted carjacking hiding in dryer), fentanyl OD in jail (snorted 2 bags, turned purple, lawyer visit saved him, pre-Narcan), worst detox Montgomery County (puking bile, shitting bunk, Ativan shower), 3 weeks hole (disoriented, makeshift chess/solitaire). Bottom & recovery — Turned down free bag in Gen Pop (first "no" in 20 years), parole home, 3 months clean no detox spot, self-made meeting papers judge accepted, mom helped (attic, toiletries), reconnected daughter at 16–18, good relationship now. Sober life/art — Car painting job via Ray (wash → prep), murals/barber shops, enamel pins/coloring books, Relapse vs Recovery game (card game from New Year's inspiration, recovery/12-step jargon humor, Instagram @relapsevsrecoverygame, gamecrafter.com, Amazon/Meta struggles drug content). Ends grateful for purpose/creativity in sobriety, teases Patreon video game play. Have you ever felt tense in your own home… bracing for the sound of your teen's footsteps or the tone of their voice? As moms parenting teens, this is one of the thoughts we're often ashamed to admit: I feel like I'm walking on eggshells with my big kid. If you're parenting teens or standing at the edge of the empty nest, you might recognize that constant fear of saying the wrong thing and making it worse. In this episode, I unpack what that “eggshell” feeling really means. You'll hear a very personal story from my own journey raising my boys and how learning the difference between influence and control changed everything. I share how learning to set down what wasn't mine to carry helped me feel calmer, stop replaying every conversation in my head, and show up in a way that slowly rebuilt trust. Join me to learn how.

IL – Fr. James Kubicki joins Patrick for the second of a special Lenten Series on the 7 Last Words of Jesus – today’s topic: Repentance Who was St. Dismas? (7:53) where does the word repentance come from? (17:31) Deacon Shawn - I think the comment about conversion vs repentance is tied together. Reading a book . Repentance is a big part of it. Self reliance on God vs. Surrender. Deeper conversion helps navigate. (20:58) Break 1 (22:12) Gene - I was in a car accident 15 years ago. Someone was killed in the accident. I was convicted of vehicular homicide. Incarcerated for it. I felt and rationalized that if they weren't in the middle of the highway, this wouldn't have happened. Last 5 years, I've been in repentance in the dark night of the soul. Mourning and not rationalizing now. What is the meaning of the word “today” you will be with me in paradise? (36:22) Break 2 Bonnie - Repentance and conviction of the Holy Spirit. Adult children have cut me off. I'm focusing on my part. I can't fix it or fix anybody. The goodness of the holy spirit and that can bring us repentance and help us to surrender to the will of God. Accepting the consequences. (42:09) John - My problem was I felt I couldn't be forgiven for the sins I committed. When I repented, it was very difficult. I still struggle. Nicole - Question - speaking about what I've been pondering. I told my friend I don't hold on to any past sins, and I know it's a sin to not accept God's mercy. In my dream last night, I feel something was being revealed from a past sin. Had desire to go to confession. How do I go to priest about it? Wondering if I confessed it.
LoveLife L;VE: Raising the Standard of Support On this episode of the Make Mental Health Matter Show host Kelli Melissa Reinhardt does a solo show talking about the launch of a new program from Make Mental Health Matter nonprofit called the LoveLife L;ve program. This is a low-cost coaching and holistic based program designed to give access to support for those individuals that don't have the financial means to take care of their wellness due to cost. Kelli also talks about how to know the difference between certified coaches and uncertified. Also licenses mental health professionals vs unlicensed. Giving more background about why we are having certified coaches for our program. Little bit about Kelli's story from her: I decided to become a Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) Coach in 2020 after I had experienced the power of NLP on my own mindset. I was living in fear due to 2 traumatic events that I paired together. I was living in fear of losing anyone else in my life after the loss of my sister to suicide and after my son had seizures on the day of her celebration of life. When I found NLP, it transformed my life and allowed me to find the fear, shift the 2 events and replace it with curiosity that same day. That night I went home and everything in my life shifted. I realized if it could help me so much, I wanted to learn more, so that I could help others. This started my journey of getting all the levels of certification starting at Practitioner, Masters, Training and Consulting, Coaching Foundations and Coaching Building Blocks, which lead to completing my ICF (international Coaching Federation) Certification. Most recently I completed the training to become a Peer & Family Support Specialist and will start the journey of becoming certified in that also. I believe in furthering my education and adding certifications because it helps me be a better coach and support to those that are truly struggling. I'm walking the walk, not just talking the talk. And continuing to level up my education to help 1 million people by 2030. Short bio: Kelli Melissa Reinhardt, Warrior for Mental Health, and CEO/Founder of Make Mental Health Matter, a nonprofit born from heartbreak and built to save lives. After losing her sister to suicide in 2017, Kelli dedicated her life to helping others have the hard conversations about mental health, substance use, and suicide before it's too late. A TEDx and keynote speaker, Kelli is also an ICF ACC certified NLP Coach, Mental Health Educator, and Author. She holds a B.A. in Communication with a minor in Psychology, along with advanced certifications in NLP Training and Consulting through Worldwide Institutes of NLP. Jesse Smithers was just a teenager when a street fight turned fatal, forcing him to accept a 10-year plea deal in the Minnesota prison system. In this interview, Jesse breaks down how he survived a decade behind bars only to face a new battle upon release: a system that wouldn't hire him. Pushed back into selling drugs to survive, Jesse reveals how a miraculous case dismissal became the final wake-up call he needed to leave the life of crime behind forever. _____________________________________________ #ianbick #prisonstories #minnesota #prisonsurvival #lockedin #truecrime #inmate #survival #prisonlife #minneapolis _____________________________________________ Thank you to FACTOR & AVA for sponsoring this episode: FACTOR: Head to https://factormeals.com/lockedin50off and use code lockedin50off to get 50% off your first Factor box PLUS free breakfast for 1 year. My kid was struggling... and I didn't even know it. We spend so much of motherhood trying to keep our kids safe, happy, and successful. We set boundaries. We try to stay one step ahead. And yet… sometimes we still miss something. In this episode, I share a personal story about discovering that my son had struggled years ago, and I had no idea at the time . I unpack the shame of “I should have known,” the fear that letting go means failing, and the mindset that keeps so many moms stuck in hyper-responsibility. I'll also explore the hard truth that we can guide our kids, love them, and support them...but we can't force change, happiness, or success. They have to decide. And learning to trust that process is one of the most humbling...and freeing...parts of this stage of motherhood. If you're trying to stop overthinking, set healthy boundaries, and figure out what letting go really looks like without disconnecting from your child, this episode will help you find your footing. Missing something doesn't mean you failed. It might mean you're raising a human...and you're allowed to be one too.
Adult friendships don't fail because we're bad at them. They fail because no one ever taught us how to maintain them without burning ourselves out.In this episode, I'm talking about building wealth in relationships -how old money relationships last decades without drama, performance, or emotional exhaustion. Not by being intense. Not by being everywhere. But by being predictably present in ways that actually suit who you are.I share how understanding your friendship operating system- whether you're a one-touch friend or an all-in friend- changes everything. There's no “right” way to be a friend, but there is a wrong way: performing a version of closeness that drains you or expecting others to show up in ways they never will.We talk about:Simplifying your social life with systems (calendars, repeat gifts, default hostess gestures)How to quietly learn people's love languages without over-explaining yoursLetting friendships breathe through kids, careers, distance, and life phasesAnd yes, I walk you through how to make friends as an adult without forcing it using the real formula that actually works: proximity + repetition + shared values.Because social wealth isn't about having a long contact list. It's about being someone people feel safe keeping in their life.----------------------------Go Deeper with Old Money Courses:Old Money Mindset to learn how to think like a wealthy womanOld Money Method to set up a money machine that grows your wealth effortlessly----------------------------Free Resources: Shop Amber's Classic Wardrobe Staples + Skin, Hair & Health Holy Grail ProductsOld Money Monthly Newsletter for what's rich in culture, shopping and our communityDownload your FREE Net Worth TrackerDownload your FREE Simple Money Plan (better than a budget, designed for your richest life)----------------------------Connect with the Old Money Podcast:Community: Join the Old Money Country ClubWeb: OldMoneyPodcast.comEmail: OldMoneyPodcast@gmail.comInstagram: @OldMoneyPodcastTikTok: @OldMoneyPodcast----------------------------Copyright (c) Old Money 2025.The content presented in this podcast is intended to entertain, educate, inspire and support listeners in their personal and professional development and does not constitute business, financial, or legal advice. What Fresh Hell: Laughing in the Face of Motherhood | Parenting Tips From Funny Moms
Based on a recent listener question about how to start to let go as our kids get older, this "Deep Dive" series highlights some of our past interview episodes on the topic. Julie Lythcott-Haims is the author of the parenting bestseller How to Raise an Adult, which opened the minds of loving but hovering parents everywhere. In this episode, we discuss her follow up book Your Turn: How To Be An Adult, which Julie calls "a compassionate beckoning into the freedoms and responsibilities of adulthood." Adulting is a mindset. That might explain why many of us whose drivers' licenses indicate grown-up status still don't feel ready to be in charge of anything– including the children with whom we have somehow been entrusted. But trying and failing doesn't mean you're not ready to be an adult. Failing and trying again, Lythcott-Haims argues, is what makes us adults in the first place. This episode is full of advice on how to move the parent/child paradigm (gradually) from vertical to horizontal– and on why becoming an adult is actually a path to joy. As Julie explains in this episode: "Whether we're 8 or we're 18, or 28 or 38 or 48, we are yearning to make our way down a path that is ours to lay. We want to be loved and cared about along the way, but we do not want someone else to lead our lives for us." Friendship didn't stop mattering when we became adults. It just became more layered, more tender, and more vulnerable. The Bible never treats friendship as optional or superficial. From the very beginning, God said something was not good — and it wasn't work, purpose, or responsibility. It was isolation.“It is not good for man to be alone.” — Genesis 2:18Friendship is not a bonus feature of life. It's part of how God forms us.But because adult friendship looks different than it used to, there are a few quiet lies that tend to creep in — often unnoticed — and shape how we interpret our experiences.Dive deeper into the notes from this episode and more on substack at cleerelystated.substack.com
