Dr. Mann received his undergraduate degrees in Physics and Applied Math from the University of California at Berkeley, an M.S. degree in Physics from Yale University, and a Ph.D. in Geology & Geophysics from Yale University. His research interests include the study of Earth's climate system and the science, impacts and policy implications of human-caused climate change. Dr. Mann was a Lead Author on the Observed Climate Variability and Change chapter of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Third Scientific Assessment Report in 2001 and was organizing committee chair for the National Academy of Sciences Frontiers of Science in 2003. He has received a number of honors and awards including NOAA's outstanding publication award in 2002 and selection by Scientific American as one of the fifty leading visionaries in science and technology in 2002. He contributed, with other IPCC authors, to the award of the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize. He was awarded the Hans Oeschger Medal of the European Geosciences Union in 2012 and was awarded the National Conservation Achievement Award for science by the National Wildlife Federation in 2013. He made Bloomberg News' list of fifty most influential people in 2013. In 2014, he was named Highly Cited Researcher by the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) and received the Friend of the Planet Award from the National Center for Science Education. He received the Stephen H. Schneider Award for Outstanding Climate Science Communication from Climate One in 2017, the Award for Public Engagement with Science from the American Association for the Advancement of Science in 2018 and the Climate Communication Prize from the American Geophysical Union in 2018. In 2019 he received the Tyler Prize for Environmental Achievement and in 2020 he received the World Sustainability Award of the MDPI Sustainability Foundation. He was elected to the U.S. National Academy of Sciences in 2020. He received the Leo Szilard Award of the American Physical Society in 2021 and was named Humanist of the Year by the American Humanist Association in 2023. He was elected a Foreign Member of the Royal Society in 2024 and was elected to the American Academy of Arts & Sciences in 2026. He is a Fellow of the American Geophysical Union, the American Meteorological Society, the Geological Society of America, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry. Jeremy Zakis, Part Two: Zakis joins John Batchelor to explore accounts of animal mischief and human deception. Two beagle puppies, Jada and Scooter, consumed 2.4 pounds of gummy snakes after breaking into a pantry in Queensland; while Scooter was the primary culprit and required veterinary intervention, both survived. Other dogs, such as spaniels Charlie and Sailor, have learned to intercept Amazon and UPS delivery packages to steal snack cookies and cooked knuckles, acting like "jewel thieves," while the spoodle Dallas previously learned to smash plastic containers off shelves at specific angles to pop the lids and access treats. In New South Wales, cockatoos are described as "vandals of the sky" for systematically destroying birdhouses and stripping materials from roofs; while Dallas is territorial and keeps them off his property, he maintains a "best friends" relationship with the local magpies, allowing them to feed in the yard. Finally, Zakis examines "Clickgate," a scandal in English cricket following a July 25th match between Saltburn and Norton in North Yorkshire: a fielder was caught on camera clicking his fingers at the exact moment a ball passed a batter, mimicking the sound of ball hitting bat—the cue umpires rely on for "caught behind" calls. This "sneaky underhanded tactic" resulted in the batter being wrongly called out, ultimately costing his team the game. (2)

Waiting for the puppy to tell you they need to go outside is a mistake that can cause more accidents than almost anything else. New puppy owners often expect their puppy to bark at the door, scratch the door. whine, pace around, or sit and stare at them.Here is a scientific method that I learned from a vet a few years ago. It sets the puppy up for success by allowing them only a small amount of water at a time, and then taking them outside to go potty shortly afterward. Step 1: Give your puppy one ounce of water per lb of body weight per day. You will need a measuring cup to ensure they get the exact amount of water per day.Step 2: Divide the total amount of water into 4 or 5 servings.Step 3: Give your puppy one of those servings of water.Step 4: Take your puppy out to go potty 3 times within one hour after that serving of water.ExampleYour puppy weighs 8 lbs.
