This lecture discusses the French Existentialist philosopher, Jean-Paul Sartre's play, No Exit, and focuses on the various ways in which the three characters attempt to find some manner of making their situation, trapped with each other for eternity, livable for themselves. Inez Serrano speaks of the situation as one beset with traps, and Joseph Garcin uses the metaphor of webs, but they do consider possible solutions, only to find that none of them will work in the long run.

In Subtle Webs: How Local Organizations Shape US Education (Oxford UP, 2025), Jose Eos Trinidad reveals how organizations outside schools have created an invisible infrastructure not only to affect local school districts but also to shape US education. He illustrates this by providing a behind-the-scenes look at how local organizations in Chicago, Philadelphia, and New York City have transformed data and worked with high schools to address the problem of students dropping out. The book argues that changes in a decentralized system happen less through top-down policy mandates or bottom-up social movements, and more through “outside-in” initiatives of networked organizations spread across various local systems. By detailing change across multiple levels and across multiple locations, Trinidad uncovers new ways to think about educational transformation, policy reform, and organizational change. ❤️

PREVIEW — Gordon G. Chang — American Enterprise in China: Frustration and the Shift to Supply Webs. John Batchelor and Chang discuss American enterprises encountering significant market opportunities in China but experiencing persistent disappointment, frustration, and strategic retreat due to China's "pirate stance" on intellectual property protection. American businesses, though historically overly optimistic regarding trade expansion trends, are systematically developing alternative sourcing arrangements—constructing "supply webs" rather than centralized supply chains—as they confront the serious, escalating trade friction and intellectual property theft. 1918 PEKING UNIVERSITY

In this podcast episode Pastor Jackson explores the traps and triumphs that come with elevation. Webs are traps, but they are also healing agents for wounds. In Ancient Greece they used the silk from spider webs to heal wounds on the battle field. These traps that the enemy brings are also crucial to bring you to a higher elevation point. God can use the process to actually heal you. Learn from David's elevation in this episode.
Spiders get all the credit for spinning webs, but they're hardly the only arthropods weaving silk. In this episode, we untangle stories of web-making mites, moths, butterflies, and even glow-in-the-dark flies, revealing how silk making is a bigger story and sometimes, stranger than fiction.
What do you wish I asked this guest? What was your "quotable moment" from this episode? Ten years of spark, craft, and community converge in Arlington, Texas. I sat down with Kacie from Kacie's Corner to share everything you need to know about the 10th annual DFW Pagan Unity Fest. From a full day of vendors and hands-on learning to a public Yule ritual and a charity raffle for the North Texas Food Bank, this milestone gathering shows how modern pagan community thrives when service, celebration, and storytelling come together. We walk through the schedule so you can plan your day: a free festival on Saturday, November 8, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., at 2001 California Lane on the UU church grounds. Expect returning favorites and new artisans, including holistic healers and regional artists, plus the final appearance of a beloved vendor, Venus 6 Gallery. Classes in the Grove run 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., opening with Harvest in Gratitude by Jennifer Culver and closing with Kacie's Webs of Community workshop focused on building real, resilient connections. At 3 p.m., Jormungandholl DFW leads a community Yule ritual right in Vendors Village, bringing intention and warmth to the heart of the fest.We also spotlight the annual raffle that turns shared excitement into direct impact. Vendors donate prizes, we're adding a spell box to the pool, and every ticket supports the North Texas Food Bank, which serves both the Dallas–Fort Worth metro area and surrounding rural communities. You'll also hear about the new Community Corner co-sponsored by Kacie's Corner and Your Average Witch, where you can drop in, make simple crafts, and meet people without pressure. If you're local, this is your invitation to experience the region's largest pagan community day firsthand; if you're visiting, it's a welcoming entry point into DFW's vibrant scene.Join us for the details, stay for the heart, and bring a friend.
I had an incredible conversation with Cynthia Moe-Lobeda about her book Building a Moral Economy (the first in a six-book series!). We dug into how most Christians experience a profound disconnect between their faith and their economic lives—knowing intellectually that our consumer choices connect us to exploitation and ecological destruction, but feeling powerless to change systems that seem inevitable. Cynthia shared her own journey from despair to action, grounded in a mystical encounter that helped her hold both grief and hope simultaneously. She laid out a compelling vision for what a moral economy actually looks like: ecological, equitable, and democratic—three criteria that radically challenge financialized capitalism. The heart of our conversation was her framework of "10 fingers on the hands of healing change"—specific forms of action like living lightly, moving money, changing rules, and building a bigger "we." What moved me most was her insistence that our current economy isn't inevitable; it was built by human decisions and can be rebuilt differently. She reminded us that we're not isolated moral agents but a "we"—the body of Christ with diverse gifts for different kinds of action. If you've ever felt torn between providing for your family and the knowledge that our prosperity is connected to the crucified people of our world, this conversation offers a path forward rooted in resurrection faith and practical action. Dr. Cynthia Moe-Lobeda is a Lutheran theologian, ethicist, and author who has dedicated her career to exploring the intersection of faith, economics, and justice. Her work focuses on building what she calls "economies for life"—economic systems that are ecological, equitable, and democratic. She is the author of Resisting Structural Evil and Building a Moral Economy. With decades of experience in ecumenical work and student ministry, Cynthia brings both academic rigor and pastoral wisdom to her writing, grounded in her conviction that the current economic system is not inevitable but can be transformed through collective action. SpaceTime with Stuart Gary | Astronomy, Space & Science News
In this episode of SpaceTime, we tackle the mysteries of the cosmos with a new mathematical model of the universe and ponder the age-old question: are we alone in the universe?New Model of the UniverseScientists have unveiled a groundbreaking mathematical model aimed at simplifying our understanding of the universe's evolution over the past 13.8 billion years. This innovative research, based on data from the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI), offers fresh insights into the cosmic web's structure, revealing how dark energy influences cosmic expansion. Lead author Leonardo Gianni from the University of Queensland discusses how this model challenges existing paradigms and provides a clearer picture of the universe's complex behaviour, including the impact of voids and collapsing regions of matter. Are We Alone?A new study presented at the European Planetary Science Congress raises intriguing questions about the existence of intelligent alien civilizations. Researchers estimate that the nearest technological society in our galaxy could be over 33,000 light years away, with conditions on their home planets potentially mirroring those of Earth. The study highlights the challenges of sustaining advanced life and the long timelines required for such civilizations to coexist with humanity.Partial Solar EclipseToday, a partial solar eclipse graced the skies over New Zealand, the South Pacific, and parts of Australia and Antarctica. As the Moon passed between the Earth and the Sun, observers witnessed a stunning celestial display with up to 70% of the Sun's face obscured. This remarkable event serves as a reminder of the intricate dance of celestial bodies that shape our night sky.www.spacetimewithstuartgary.com✍️ Episode ReferencesPhysical Review Lettershttps://journals.aps.org/prl/European Planetary Science Congresshttps://www.epsc2025.eu/Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/spacetime-space-astronomy--2458531/support.New Model of the UniverseAre We Alone?Partial Solar EclipseNew Model of the UniverseAre We Alone?Partial Solar Eclipse
