The ins/outs of the bike shop industry! This is about YOU as much as it is about me and my goings on. This is the audio documentation of going through a prominent retail business in the aims of educating and guiding listeners into a healthy lifestyle with the world around them. Or what I like to cal…
Welcome to EPISODE 50 of the BikeShop BF (boyfriend) Podcast! Holy smokes??! First off, THANK YOU for you listening to the previous 50 episodes, I honestly am in 'awe' that I've made 50 of them but more so that so many of you are listening to the little podcast that could. Wanted to catch up on 'techy bits' that I've wanted to talk about for a while, so it may seem like 'old news' but I'm stoked to have my $0.02 in on some of the acquisitions from Wahoo, the unveiling of CADEX and actual, THERE IT IS!!!! new Shimano Dura Ace groupset. It being NOVEMBER (YIKES!!) it is time for trainer season for those of us who live in colder climates. Indoor training is a great way to make your time count on the bike, with structured training workouts but you will need a tool that lets you get the most out of it: so here is a little explainer on SMART TRAINERS vs. 'DUMB' TRAINERS --- I dislike the word 'dumb' to describe such a great valued tool but it does help differentiate between trainer concepts. Do you have a smart trainer? If so, I want to know in the comments below. Lastly, I was sent some tubeless tires to review/try but due to horrible weather--- that review will take place in early spring 2020! If you are on the ANCHOR app, feel free to send me a voice message! Or if you are on INSTAGRAM, TWITTER or TIKTOK (yeah, I'm cool like that) send me a DM @dustinwht Super thankful for 50 episodes!! Love all the comments -- I thrive off of them! x. Dustin/BikeShop BF --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
Welcome to BIKESHOP BF Episode 49!!!! I would be rude to NOT acknowledge how long of my hiatus from recording has been and want to THANK EACH OF YOU!!! for continuing to listen to this and the older episodes of the podcast! In this shorter episode, it is 'Out with the old and in with that NEW -NEW!!' I've got a NEW helmet I'm going to be using and I'm going to tell you all about the POC VENTRAL AIR SPIN. Full disclosure: I bought this helmet, didn't receive it from POC, nor have they given me any $$ to endorse or to talk about this helmet. That allows me to give this helmet a proper critique of the PROS + CONS of this top-level contact point for this rider. Would love to hear your thoughts about replacing your old favourite with something new? Are you looking for a new helmet? Which one did you end up going with? Let me know via the 'voice messages' feature in Anchor OR leave comments below! Would love to hear about it. Until the next episode, enjoy the THE RIDE and be good to one another! x Dustin/BikeShop BF Instagram: @dustinwht Twitter: @dustinwht TikTok: @dustinwht --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
Welcome to EPISODE 48 (and SEASON 2!!!)of the BikeShop BF (boyfriend) Podcast! Hope you are doing well and taking 2019 to task and making it yours! I was low, somewhat sick and just didn’t have the juice to make a podcast but what a difference a week off can make. Have you heard about the NEW SRAM AXS groupset launch?? I get into it here — likely talking too quickly due to the excitement of NEW TECH! It wouldn’t be #techTuesday otherwise, am I right? BREAKING NEWS: Garmin buy TACX and I get into “what that means for riders?” I also get into why this is my favourite part of the season in the shop. All this a bit more of the goods in this episode, definitely worth the wait! As always, THANK YOU for listening! If you have questions, insights, let me know in the comments section below--- I love them, I read them and I feed off of them! x. Welcome to EPISODE 47 (and the START of SEASON 2!!!)of the BikeShop BF (boyfriend) Podcast! Happy Belated 2019 to ALL of your fabulous folks listening to the podcast! The BikeShop BF podcast was meant to be a weekly podcast, in which questions are answered and insights are shared with you of what #bikeshoplife is like? Finally, got over the ‘holiday hiatus’ and it is time to get back into podcasting shape. In this episode I answer some of YOUR questions: “Do you notice performance drop offs the older you get?” “Which bike should I get? Gravel? CX? Or Endurance road bike?” “What YouTube/creator content do I enjoy?” This AND some info coming from some insiders at Shimano. OH! The plans and schemes coming in future episodes, can’t wait to share!!! As always, THANK YOU for listening! Welcome to the BIKESHOP BF Podcast EPISODE 46!! Here is a recording of a conversation that I've been wanting to do since I found out he was my Insider Rep at Norco Bicycles, Chris Perrin( IG: @chris_thebruce) . Chris works for one of the BIGGEST bicycle brands in Canada, Norco Bicycles, and one of the largest distributors (Live-To-Play Sports/ IG @ltp_sports) in Canada that has some major impact on the cycling industry. We get into the origin story of 'how Chris became Chris Perrin' (he thanks his parents, of course!) but also describes his roots in cycling and bikes. We also discuss how brands, within the industry, are making product and bikes that riders want to ride and highlight some of our favourites, including the SIGHT VLT (eMTB), my staff's shop favourite bike of 2017 + 2018 -- the Norco Scene, the ride of 'dirt dropper' bikes and their #gravelcompatibility, what it is like riding on the West coast of Canada and how Norco is working with brick & mortar shops in an internet age? If you would like to know more, check out Norco's instagram (@norcobicycles) for more great stories and visuals of their exciting products for 2019!! This is a SOLID conversation you won't want to miss out on! Thank you so much listening! If you liked what you heard, leave a comment below or even better, a rating! It means so much to me to know that you, the listener, is enjoying this content! x. BikeShop BF/ Dustin
Welcome to EPISODE 45 of the BikeShop BF (boyfriend) Podcast! From the start, it is about remembering Paul Sherwen (this episode is dedicated to him and his memory) who passed away on December 2nd, 2018 - aged 62, who was one of the voices to my enjoyment of July and Le Tour de France. I try to put into words his legacy for me and what his career meant to me. Then it is full on into this brief episode where I get into some new tech, would you like it if this were a regular segment in the podcast?/ Thank you to my ambassadorship, Nuun, for keeping me hydrated this past year on some mega rides!! THANK YOU!!!!!/ New ambassadorship for your BikeShop BF and some thoughts on power meters, 'Do you need one?' as always, THANK YOU for listening! If you have questions, insights, let me know in the comments section below--- I love them, I read them and I feed off of them! x. BikeShop Bf
Welcome to EPISODE 44 of the BikeShop BF (boyfriend) Podcast! How can I put this? I screwed up!! Screwing up is part of the adventures of audio documentation aka 'podcasting' and I'm not an exception to calamity. Here is a prime example of things going wrong, when I tried to document the race audio from Bikes & Beyond - BEYOND THE GRAVE pt. II CX. Took 2 weeks before giving up trying to salvage audio from it... sigh... at least I learned to ALWAYS have fresh batteries BEFORE recording. Still wanted to give the flavour of what was the race-event, so enjoy my mixtape of audio from that!/ Next up 2019 has LOTS of exciting bikes coming out from manufacturers, I give an explainer of what I'm looking forward to!/ A chat with both Graham & Garret from the shop, two recent hires who I briefly interview and get some insights from between goings-on, phone calls and customers in the shop. It got a little profane so that's why it sounds so 'choppy'. #bikeshoplife / a NEW AMBASSADORSHIP disclaimer for your BIKESHOP BF/ This and a few other audio nuggets on the episode! As always THANK YOU for listening! I wanted this one to be perfect, so it took longer and still got screwed up -- keeps me honest, I guess? If you have comments, questions, insights, let me know in the comments below -- I read them, love them and feed off of them! Episode 45 is coming, so stay tuned! --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
Welcome to Episode 43 of the BikeShop BF (boyfriend) Podcast! In this episode, I wanted to experiment a bit more with the 'raw audio' side things-- here are 3 little segments that I feel gives a flavour to what the #bikeshoplife is about: we hear from Jamie (one of the main service technicians and education-provocateur) one some of the interesting aspects of hub adjustment; next up is some audio from a bike setup I did with Stephen; then round out the experimental packet of audio from this past weekend's C Y C L O C R O S S provincial championship race. If you hadn't guessed, one of the tactics is make each other laugh./ "What's up in the bike shop?" turns into a small rant-rundown of the goings on: event planning, participation in great events and just weirdly busy (no complaints!)/ lastly, I do my best to explain "how does a $10k bike sell a $1k bike?" - with some background information about "A" bikes vs. "B" bikes, what does "value" mean to the rider-client? and ASPIRATION vs. PRACTICAL all factor into my response. Love hearing from you and what you think of the podcast, as always you can let me know in the comments below OR on instagram, twitter or Anchor FM (@dustinwht). Thank you for listening! I've got MORE BikeShop BF episodes to come! --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
Welcome to Episode 42 of the BikeShop BF (boyfriend) Podcast! In this episode, I delve into a review of the Wahoo Kickr Climb indoor trainer companion unit to the Wahoo Kickr lineup, with some thoughts as to "who this is for?" / The shop is in a 'seasonal transition' or better known as 'shoulder'-season as things begin to wind down for the Autumnal part of the retail year. So what's a fella to do? One word, "revenge!"/ Apart of the downtime portion of the year beginning to kick in, it is also a time of year for full-on shenanigans/ introduction of a new segment "Here's a thought!" about 'brand neutral' contact points? Does it matter to you?/ We finish this podcast with a mega-two-wheeled race week in #innsbrucktirol2018 and hopefully you noticed a different 'feel' to the sound of the podcast, let me know what you think? Welcome to Episode 41 of the BikeShop Boyfriend Podcast! In this episode we get into 'This week at the Shop' with group rides ending and fading light, how can we best enjoy the 'shoulder'-transition seasons? That's right, #cyclocross!/ Some thoughts about 'training down' and taking time off the bike/ a quick follow-up on my thoughts about the Bontrager Velocis MIPS helmet/ The shop is cutting the chaff from what sells and what doesn't sell and getting behind products that 'are doing it right' -- what does that mean for you?/ #CopsforKids made it to Tucson, I revisit some audio with my interview with Paul and hope to get him back on the podcast to hear about some stories from the road. All this and a few gems of info from #shimano! Thank you for listening in!
