Happy Halloween! Today we're talking about our favourite Halloween movies! It's not exactly hard hitting stuff, we mainly talk about how the movies we chose have “vibes” and are “Autumnal.” But still, it's fun to hang out with us, right? Right??? Listen/watch now! Don't forget to like and subscribe!!
"Games have the power to distract people from stressful situations. Battleship got me through my parents' divorce. Operation got me through my vasectomy, i.e., my operation. I don't think I would have been able to endure my breakup with Holly had it not been for Toss Across.” We close out October with another exciting edition of Game Night with Haylee B! Haylee joins us once again for an Autumnal round of blind rankings, would-you-rathers, and other games that have us laughing, singing, and brainstorming pop songs. We talk about topics like Halloween costumes, classic monsters, Office scream moments, and a whole lot more! Support our show and become a member of Scott's Tots on Patreon! For only $5/month, Tots get ad-free episodes plus exclusive access to our monthly Mailbag episodes where we casually pick through every single message/question/comment we receive. We also have bonus series available to our Patrons, like our White Lotus Christmas Special, Party Down, Ted Lasso, Survivor, and unreleased episodes of this show. Happy Halloween, listeners! This month on Collecting Issues, the monthly comic book book club, Michael and Benjamin skirt the rules to cover an anthology: Come Find Me: An Autumnal Offering. This 2024 one-shot is published by the new, creator-owned DSTLRY Comics. It's an... interesting business model of limited digital runs and resellable digital rights. (Wait, did we just buy an NFT? Is this the blockchain?)Curated by horror maestro Becky Cloonan, Come Find Me is a collection of six chilling mini-stories steeped in folk and medieval horror. Join us as we apply "useful frameworks" (much to Michael's disgust) to break down every tale in this unnerving collection from a lineup of incredible female and non-binary creators. We discuss:"Devil's Trill" (Hamlet Machine): A sexy, weird, and wordless Faustian pact that sets a spectacular gothic tone."Portorium" (Becky Cloonan): A classic tale of grave robbery, Roman gods (hello, Orcus), and why you should never steal from the dead."Down by the Water" (Molly Mendoza): A beautiful, abstract, and unsettling story of gossip, grief, and... frog spawn?"Coal &Clover" (Vanessa R. Del Rey): A straightforward folk horror revenge story set in a brutal American company town. Don't make deals with the Fae!"La Chéta" (Celine Loup): The one that left us scratching our heads. A sketchy, Alpine tale of a sexy widow and... well, we're still not sure."Warmth of the Hunt" (E.M. Carroll): An absolute banger to finish the anthology. A stunning, timeless depiction of the Wild Hunt with tattoo-worthy art.Which stories gave us "oozing dread" and which one was less fright and more...?Follow the Podcast:Join the Discord and read alongRead Our SubstackFollow us on InstagramFollow us on TiktokWatch us on YoutubeNext Comic:Local Man, a deconstruction of the Big Guns and Pouch era of 90's comics by Tim Seeley and Tony FleecsTime Stamps:00:00 Introduction to 'Come Find Me'01:33 Overview of DSTLRY Comics04:01 Exploring the Anthology's Themes04:53 Spotlight on Becky Cloonan09:03 Diving into 'Devil's Trill'21:32 Analysis of 'Portorium'32:04 Molly Mendoza's 'Down by the Water'36:20 Unraveling the Mystery of the Drowned Lover38:33 The Grim Trysts and Henry's Dark Secrets39:54 The Frog Spawn Mystery and Henry's Duality44:17 Medieval Horror and the Tale of Coal & Clover44:37 The Dark Art of Vanessa Del Ray48:57 The Folkloric Influence in Horror Comics01:04:17 The Wild Hunt and the Art of EM Carroll01:10:32 Final Thoughts and Upcoming Reads Hosted on Acast. As the nights draw in, the dungeon doofs are enjoying the run up to Halloween, and have been watching all kinds of fun things, too many to mention individually, but ape sex, nazis and gourds all pop up in the conversation. As ever, forever, this podcast contains swearing and drunken opinions that could offend or irritate, so be warned! **This episode contains graphic references to genitalia**Did you know that the Catherine Wheel firework takes its inspiration from St. Catherine of Alexandria? How did a 4th-century noblewoman convert fifty of the empire's greatest philosophers to Christianity before they were executed alongside her?Dr. Eleanor Janega is once again joined by historian and storyteller Amy Jeffs, this time to uncover the fascinating stories of medieval saints connected to the autumn. In addition to St. Catherine, there's St. Martin of Tours who achieved sanctity through charity and humility rather than martyrdom, and St. Ursula, the British princess who led an impossible pilgrimage that ended in mass martyrdom at Cologne, and produced an "ocean of relics" that flooded European churches and captured imaginations across the continent.More:St. Christopher & Summertime SaintsSt. George & Springtime SaintsEdward the Confessor & New Year SaintsGone Medieval is presented by Dr. Eleanor Janega. Fall winds, blowing leaves, bumbling brook. Look, I'm sorry this episode is late. I couldn't figure out what to write in the episode description and while I'm positive no one reads any of this anyway; I still wanted to say something besides “Fall winds; blowing leaves.” Does writer's block apply to ****** writers? That's what I have. ****** writer's block. That it's holding back an ambience episode is annoying. But my usual shtick of pasting tuna casserole recipes into the text field seems lazy. Boil water (or microwave if needed). Cook the pasta from the box until tender. Drain and return to the pot.I could have called back to my New England college days where mountains surrounded my University on all sides in central Vermont (Disney World for the leaf people). Add the packet from the mac & cheese box plus the required butter and milk (or a splash of whatever you've got — even water works in a pinch). Stir until creamy. I had a window that opened directly on one mountain that I'm sure would have looked pretty if I had been awake during the day to look at them.Bluh, does anyone else feel like they could limbo? Dump in the drained tuna. Like my gut tells me i would be good at limbo — even though i know i wouldn't be good at limbo. it's weird, there's an ember of “enter a limbo contest" in my bones. Bake at 350 °F (175 °C) for about 15–20 minutes, until hot and bubbly.

I always like to create a mix for autumn but this year I got bust and never got around to it. Thankfully The Lonely Bell has that covered. The Lonely Bell is Ali Murray who hails from the Isle of Lewis in Scotland. He has been producing for ten years and I have been a fan since 2022's "Kingdom of the Deep." The Lonely Bell has a new album out so to celebrate we have this new mix. Here what Ali says about this mix: "As the seasons begin to change, and late summer gradually fades into the dark, cold, wet, blustery days of early autumn here on the Isle of Lewis (Scotland) - I wanted to create a guest mix of ambient tracks that aurally reflect the quiet sadness and barren beauty that fills the air (and the heart) at this time of year. These tracks have been soundtracking my days during this seasonal shift, and I find that each individual track is dense with this strange and mysterious form of autumnal melancholy that is simultaneously haunting and comforting.... The mix also coincides with the release of my latest album 'Time Beyond The Edges' - an album of collaboration pieces with fellow ambient artists and experimental composers from around the globe, which came out on Shady Ridge Records on Sept 26th. The mix is bookended by two of the tracks from this release..." This episode sees your Say Reporters Dealing with the after effects of their choices. One of getting their Autumnal Vaccinations vaccinated hours before recording and the other making updates to the technology they've surrounded themselves with. This in turn leads to interesting examination of the current state of Artificial Intelligence, the long history of imitation in the realm of art, and the grimy history of Disney films.

On this week's show, we kick off with some of our favorite autumn traditions and morning routines. Then we delve into the enduring appeal of cards as a medium for games, collectibles, and artifacts that connect us to our past. We look up some prices of original Garbage Pail Kids, chat about fine dining etiquette, and try to convince Shane to buy video games in Japan. The air is getting cooler, the days are getting shorter, autumn is officially upon us! Mabon, also knows as the Autumn Equinox, is a time to prepare for the darker months to come. With a little intentional planning, the dark half of the year can be a time of thriving rather than simply enduring. What will this season look like for you? Is there healing work that deserves your attention? Maybe a creative project or a learning pursuit is beckoning? After the fall decor has been hung, take some time to explore what's under the surface. As we stroll through the changing woods, consider the preparations that your life requires this Mabon. With autumn approaching, a wonderful time to be out in the field, Wild Bird Acoustics concentrates on an autumnal episode of sounds from the far north of Sweden, along the coast of Västerbotten. Here, in an environment of solitude, I have been collecting audio of the sounds of both resident and passage bird species over the past number of years. In this episode, I share audio from the autumn of 2024. The first sound magazine concerns nocturnal migration at Hällögern, a simple round up of my higher quality recordings, all made at night at this location over the course of early autumn in 2024. This should appeal greatly to those listeners with a keen interest in nocturnal migration. The main sound magazine concerns recordings made over a nine day period in late September 2024 at the site. Despite windy conditions over most of the period, which resulted in a poor period of active diurnal migration, I still managed to record some wonderful audio. I fervently hope this will be enjoyed by listeners.Leave a comment here....Support the showSubscibe to Wild Bird Acoustics here;https://wildbirdacoustics.buzzsprout.comLots more audio related material here at my long running website;https://blogbirder.blogspot.com/
Another audio packed episode at Wild Bird Acoustics! I begin with a magazine entitled 'The Fruits of 2024', a random collection of field recordings, all of which were taken over the course of Spring 2024. I had a wonderful time visiting different locations at that time, simply recording the wonderful soundscapes I came across whilst out in the field. As I often do, I simply wandered around various locations, letting the sounds of singing birds define what I recorded next, at times, simply moving from one songster to the next... Following this rather random sound magazine, a more planned and researched piece which I have put together carefully over the past year. This extensive sound magazine concerns the sound identification of migrating Buntings. Buntings are widespread Autumnal migrants and they remain one of my favourite species groups. As you will know by now, I am extremely drawn to migrating passerines and there is nothing I enjoy more than being out at dawn, monitoring fall migrants as they move southwards. Visible migration can be challenging and there is much to learn. Often, as large numbers of migrants can be high overhead on mornings such as this, an extensive knowledge of vocalizations and calls is the key to unlocking the secrets of migration. This sound guide to Buntings has been formulating in the recesses of my mind for a few years now. It has taken me many years to collect enough audio to finally tackle this project, featuring one of my favourite groups of passerine species. The audio here has been gleaned from many early morning sessions. Establishing two listening stations here in Sweden has proved the key to unlocking this particular box, allowing me to accumulate a large amount of reference material to work with and share. I really hope this can help encourage others to get out into the field and enjoy the incredible spectacle that is bird migration. Buntings are a fascinating group of species and several species are recorded on passage here in Sweden. Here, I take a deep dive into the calls of a number of species that occur here and discuss each in turn....Leave a comment here....Support the showSubscibe to Wild Bird Acoustics here;https://wildbirdacoustics.buzzsprout.comLots more audio related material here at my long running website;https://blogbirder.blogspot.com/
