C3 Kings Cross is a church in Central London - Unlock your future in Jesus.
Over the next three weeks in the lead up to Christmas, we will be exploring Faith, Hope and Love. This week we look at Hope - the great expectation for a good future and final hope in Jesus Christ.
Over the next three weeks in the lead up to Christmas, we will be exploring Faith, Hope and Love. This week we look at Faith. When we have faith in ourselves, or other temporary things, we lose confidence and these things do not satisfy. However when we have faith in God, we have joy, peace and confidence.
When we realise the debt that Jesus paid for us, and come to him asking forgiveness, we gain perspective and the Holy Spirit gives us the power to forgive others not just in word, but from our heart.
God wants to give us good things, including provision, blessing and more, but the ultimate gift he wants to bestow is the power and friendship of the Holy Spirit. The key is to spend time with God daily, developing a strong and trusting relationship, and asking Him to fill us with the power of the Holy Spirit - to be with us as we go about our day.
We need to see the Lord's Prayer as a pattern that helps us pray effectively and meaningfully. When we fervently pray that God's will would be done, we then learn how to discover his will and purpose for our own life.
The Lord's Prayer was intended by Jesus to be a community prayer, and its focal point that God's kingdom would come and His will be done in every part of our lives. Every request we make in this prayer, from daily bread to forgiveness, is so that God's kingdom would be the same on earth as it is in heaven.
This is the first request in the Lord's Prayer - to make God's name holy. Everyday we are faced with the opportunity to hold up the banner of our Heavenly Father, and glorify him with our lives. If we pray for his name to be hallowed, we walk into the world each day full of the grace to live in a way that glorifies him.
To begin our series on the Lord's Prayer, we focus on the first sentence: Our Father in Heaven. Find out the heart behind why Jesus wants to teach us to pray, and how this sentence colours the rest of the prayers.
Following Jesus as a disciple means we see him as the Lord of our lives; trusting his word, imitating his character and obeying his commands. This also means we are called to be available for Jesus to use us (in our gifting) to make other disciples.
In this instalment of Behold, we see that Jesus is concerned with changing our hearts from the inside so as to affect the circumstances on the outside. When we spend time with Jesus, discuss him over a meal, and listen to that still small voice, we gain hope and see who Jesus truly is - the Christ.
God wanted us to behold Jesus as his son, thus giving us a picture of who He is, the Father. This is revolutionary. As we know Jesus more, we move from simply being believers to becoming children and heirs of the most High King.
When we are in a “desolate place” and feel we are lacking time, resources or energy, Jesus wants to reveal himself as the Creator. He can create something from our lack and even use us to be part of a creative miracle for others.
This next five weeks focuses on the idea of truly beholding Jesus. This week we learn that when we behold Jesus the way He wants us to, we see Him as the answer for any problem: sin, fear, and any practical dilemma.
When we realise how much we are loved by God we are able to respond with love to others. It is not therefore out of obligation, because we should, but rather because we overflow with the same loved shown to us by Jesus.
This is the sixth instalment in our Faith Supplements series where we learn not just the why but also the how to truly care about our Christian brothers and sisters.
Often in life we have our own agendas; marriage, a job or career, study. We can become frustrated when things do not happen the way we want them to or in our timing. Yet God is always working in our life through any of these circumstances to bring out His agenda, which is making us more like him - Godliness.
It takes more than just faith, it also takes PATIENCE to inherit the promises of God and be effective and fruitful in our Christianity. Patience is a fruit of the spirit and only comes through knowing Jesus.
Moving through the list that Peter provides in 2 Peter 1:5, we see that in order to put legs to our dreams and reach our full potential, we need to develop self control. Listen and find out how Jesus wants us to do this.
Added to our faith is first virtue, and then knowledge. Through this message we discover the power of knowledge when first based on Faith in Jesus.
The Greeks believed that "arête" or virtue, was the highest calling or purpose for a person. Yet their pursuit of virtue was in their own strength and outside of faith. In his final exhortation, Peter uses this word in his list of things to add to our faith to make it effective. Recognising the desire for "arête" enables us to possess it, and is achievable if we allow the Holy Spirit to do His great work in and through us.
Just like Joseph discovered, when we realise we are working for the Lord and not for our boss, we will have successful relationships, even in our work life. The key is to follow the example of Jesus and submit to one another in love, seeing people as God sees them.
Continuing on in our in His image series, we focus in on church relationships and how we can truly find rich, inspiring and life-giving relationships with one another.
